Resolved Question: Does the American school system need to have the bar raised?
Does the American school system need to have the bar raised? To me, it seems like the school systems in Japan, Korea, and China are so much better. Students there learn so much more than students here. Teenagers there don't even have the time to have sex, do drugs, or overeat because they're all busy studying to academically stand out. The only reason so many students in the U.S are getting pregnant or going to rehab is that they have too much time on their hands. Why not cut down summer vacation and make them go to school for 200 days instead of 180? Give the students more homework and motivate them to study hard! This is a kind of complicated situation so this is a bit long. To put it simply, I love this exceptional woman. No woman has ever treated me as well as she has. I am handsome, 24, a film student in SF, I’m originally from the Tri-Cities, WA where I really never fit in, and had seldom friends, which really bummed me out and I so felt largely dejected throughout the years. I dated many girls, but didn’t really connect with any of them and had some really bad dating experiences too. Anyway, We met last summer semester taking classes. My friend was her roomie, so we hung out allot. To my surprise we really hit it off. She’s the most beautiful (inside & out), well-rounded, & intelligent woman I’ve ever met. She had a boyfriend at the time too. One night after, we went out dancing, My friend (her roomie) was getting us pizza. I was rather intoxicated sitting on the sidewalk with my back resting against the wall. She saw me sitting alone, sat down next to me, she laid her head on my shoulder, and held my hand. It may sound odd, but that was the most romantic and profound moment I’ve ever experienced. We just held each other for a couple minutes before our order was up. I don’t know whether she intended it to be romantic, but regardless that night I developed passionate feelings for her. I have never been that touched by someone before and I will always I love her for that. After that night there were a couple times we’d all come back from drinking and she’d rant about how girls are lame for not wanting to really date me; It was really cute of her and it was extremely flattering. That was a year ago she moved away but we kept in touch on good ole FB. Last semester sucked, I almost dated this girl who was into me and we hit it off, but she pulled the boyfriend-card the day of the date, so that sucked. I told the Woman-I-liked about it, she stood up for me yet again and sent me a “You're too good for that shit” message and even sent another message after that one saying how pissed she still was, and that she’s moving back and wanted to really see me this summer. We kept in touch and before I left to China for vacation at the end of may, I sent her a message on FB, saying basically, “I can’t wait to see you this summer!”. When I got back june 27th I emailed her directly and said basically "Sup!? lets hang out sometime" she never wrote back. So I wished her a happy 4th and still hadn’t heard from her. Then she recently posted pictures over her with her new boyfriend and it looks like it could be serious so that really hurt, and I still haven’t heard from her and I don’t know if she will return to the city. She is the first person I have ever truly loved and as retarded as it sounds she is the woman of my dreams; I’ve never really fell for someone before. I just don’t know what to do. I really want to call her, and say: "thank you for being so good to me. I Just want you to know that night when after qbar when I was sitting alone on the sidewalk and you sat down next to me, rested your head on my shoulder and held my hand, I've never been touched that deeply by anyone and I am blessed that I was able to share that moment with someone as incredible as you." That's probably a bad idea, but I really want to say that to her. Thanks so much for reading. It means so muchI know this sounds crazy, but I just finally found someone who I really connect with, she genuinely was passionate about me and cared for me, and I know she still does. I just know in my heart that she is perfect for me that we'd be perfect together. I just don't know if I can find someone that amazing again, women like her are so rare. I don't want to find anyone else, I'm tired of looking, I just want to be with her. I agree that I do need to move on it's just extremely hard.If I am going to call her I am going to do it right, I think if I call her and tell her exactly how I feel It could potentially put her in an awkward situation. However, If I keep it light and say something like: "I wanted to thank you for being so good to me, It really touched me, and I'll never forget you. I miss you and hope you're doing fine, take care." moreResolved Question: foreign exchange programs china?
has anyone gone on any good programs that go to china to study as a high school student or know of any good programs. I dont want a vacation like people to people. something i can get credits for and that goes through the summer. moreResolved Question: i need help with my asian mom?
i just completed the gr 8 RCM piano exam with first class honors, it didn't take me too long, about 3 months. now she's just nuts, she wants me to jump on to gr 10 RCM piano and do the exam in the early august which is MY VACATION TIME,she's also making me to take summer school this year to get extra credits which i don't know why? i get all my credits in school and achieve averages like 90, im an excellent student in school, i get involved in a lot of extracurricular activities, like clubs, bands and sport teams, and i am the only grade representative in my grade chosen by the students which also means i am popular. i know this isn't something a popular kid do but im frustrated. i live in canada with my mom and most of my family is in china, going back to china this year is like something i planned decades ago and i wanna have a good time. me and my mom argues a lot over piano, last time she smashed my Dell Alienware which was like a 2000 dollar gaming laptop just because i didn't practice for enough time. Now i've passed grade 8 piano with first class honors and i even have 5 students i charge them 20 dollars an hour im pretty happy with it. but for the past few days me and my mom have been going around and looking for piano teachers, all of the teachers said that it's almost an impossibility to pass gr 10 in just 5 months, an average piano player takes about 15 months to prepare for the gr 10 exam. but she doesn't care, she doesn't know anything about piano and all she wants is for me to pass gr 10 ASAP. i said to her that i will practice the pieces i like and when i come back from china i will start gr 10 and yea blah blah blah. that just started a big argument she's talking about things like how smart i am and other bullcrap. then im like F*CK YOU MOM i dont give a sh!t, im tired of writing this bullsh!t anyways. so, is it possible to pass gr 10 in 5 months? moreResolved Question: What are the pros and cons of extending school hours and year?
I will start my list and you can add to it: Pro: 1) Benefit for parents who work more than one job or long hours-govenment funded daycare 2) Benefit for parents who just want the kids out of their hair until it is time for bed 3) Benefit for unemployed adults as school children will not have time for an after school job or summer job and the adults can take their place 4) Possibility of just as good of test scores and grades as other countries such as china and japan-the differences between us and them is the foreign parents actually encourage school instead of looking at it as a government funded daycare and foreign students actually care about an education Cons: 1) After school activities wil be cut short 2) Family time will be cut short-some families actually do like spending times with their kids 3) Teachers will have less time with their own families 4) Kids will lose needed extra money because they won't be able to work after school or during the summer. 5) Economic downturn-Resort towns and vacation spots and businesses will loose income and employees because summer vacation is the biggest money maker. 6) Students who hate school but are forced under penalty of law to attend will have more incentive to drop out. 7) Bullying will have longer hours and will be year round-students who are bullied pray for summer vacation. moreResolved Question: How long do other country summer vacations last?
in america, our summer vacation's like 2-3 month long. however, my cousins who are in china, she only had 1 month of vacation and she had to go back to school . & she needed to go to a dorm . as in the dorms college students go too . Shes the same age as me, so shes in 10th grade too . what about other countries? are there even shorter then 1 month? are there some countries who dont even have summer vacations for their students? moreResolved Question: hey!! i just finished my semester in china! so i want to visit america for one week, i am a student!how?

China makes everything, or it's cheaper. I'm going back to China for vacation this summer and I want to know what can I get here that might cost more or more of a "luxury" item in China. I'm thinking cosmetics for my cousin or Chocolate. (I heard Chinese chocolate barely taste like the real chocolate) I don't have a limit but...100 dollars? I'm a student and always broke=3 ~Thanks <3 moreResolved Question: can any one tell me how can i lose weight in china?
i am china and it is very difficult to get low fat food here there is lot of junk food here i want to get ripped before summer vacations. i cant cook because i am student and i live in hostel. there is no kitchen and i also dont know how to cook can someone help me please! i workout every day and my lifestyle is active but the food here is not suitable for me to lose some pounds. moreResolved Question: Which of these 4 options (summer work) do you think sounds better?
hi I am a university student and I need something to keep me occupied during the (4 month) summer vacation. These are my options: 1) Stay in the city where my university is and look for a paid part-time job (e.g. waitress, retail assistant, kitchen assistant). Will be away from my family but could go back and visit every fortnight. Will have 2 friends for company, and the gym I paid for will be nearby 2) Go back to tiny boring home-town where I have no friends and no gym, but a loving family who I love spending time with, and hope that my old job at a supermarket will give me some hours on the tills (hate the job but will get to be with my family) 3) Take a volunteering project/placement abroad e.g. business in China, conservation in Brazil etc. - no pay, will have to pay a lot of money for flights, but interesting experience 4) Book a week long package holiday to Ibiza/Tenerife etc. (a mediterranean clubbing resort) to try and look for season work , no guaruntee will find a job so could be a waste of £400! Season work e.g. bar-work , PR, waitressing, etc. I NEED something to do over the summer because I'm trying to get over my ex boyfriend and I find that as long as I don't have "idle mental time" I'm ok. When my uni exams finish this semester I'll have nothing to focus on and I don't want to relapse and get all depressed again! I should mention that I'm studying Anatomy and Human Biology, but don't want a career in this field. I'm 20 years old and have lived a fairly-sheltered life..I've never been abroad on my own. Can you please tell me what you think would be best? x moreResolved Question: Question regarding American Visa and I- 20?
I have a friend from China and she's currently a student in one of the universities in US. She plans to go back to China this summer for vacation and plan to go back to US (she's the first year graduate student) just several days before her US visa expires. Will she encounter any problem in airport/ immigration? she still has one more year on her i- 20..and if she has to apply a visa, she would rather not go to china..since it is usually hard to get the visa. Anyone can help? Thx a lot. moreResolved Question: FUTURE & Globalization?
Supposefly China will be the next superpower, does that mean more people will emigrate there? Furthermore, how will they be able to control the population of immigrants if their country is overpopulated already. Furthermore, since China holds the world's largest population along with India will the people of future be mixed predominantly with some kind of Asian ancestry? Will Mandarin or other Chinese languages become a mandatory for American students to learn? What's the future of the U.S since our economy isn't doing to well? Will more people leave the U.S.? How can the U.S. education system met that of Asia's. I heard we have a very crummy educational system. Is this linked to free education? I heard in some Asian country they go to school 6 days a week and only have one month off for summer vacation. Why don't we start doing this? moreResolved Question: finding travelmates for Japan/China/VS/... or alternative vacation?

Anyone know if there are sites that bring such people together? Any suggestion for a budget-friendly vacation or alternative vacation? many thanks =) moreResolved Question: What On-The-Go Reference Books Do You Recommend For Before Highschool?
