Summer Vacations To Denver Questions asked

Resolved Question: Looking for lake vacation within 8 hr drive of Denver?

You'd think this would be easy BUT we'd like the lake to be warm enough to swim in for little kids. We're basically looking for a CO adjacent version of On Golden Pond (hiking, fishing, swimming, beautiful scenery, maybe a quaint town to drive to for supplies, etc.) Mountain lakes are just too cold, even in summer. Any thoughts in CO, NM, OK, UT, or NE?You'd think this would be easy BUT we'd like the lake to be warm enough to swim in for little kids in the summer time. While lots of the lakes people have mentioned close to Denver are maybe technically warm enough to swim in in the summer time, we're looking for a woodsy, lake community where the water is warmer than what you're going to find at 6500+ feet. We're basically looking for a CO adjacent version of On Golden Pond (hiking, fishing, swimming, beautiful scenery, maybe a quaint town to drive to for supplies, etc.) Mountain lakes are just too cold, even in summer. Any thoughts in CO, NM, OK, UT, or NE?This would be a big family-type get away and ideally we'd want to rent cabins. Again, as corny as it sounds, that sort of On Golden Pond feel -- old cabins, big porches, maybe a horse-show ring down by the docks where the kids are fishing/swimming -- is what we're looking for. There's a place called Fallen Leaf Lake in Tahoe which is really close, but the water (at 6400 ft) is still REALLY cold in the summer. Thanks, by the way, for all the helpful suggestions! more

Resolved Question: Getting from Denver Airport to Rocky Mountains?

My boyfriend and I are planning a hiking/camping trip to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado for this coming summer. We are planning to take a week for the entire vacation. The first night there we intend to stay at a hotel to get ready for our camping trip, but we can't figure out how to get from our Denver Airport-vicinity hotel to the Rocky Mountains National Park. As far as I have seen, there are no bus lines that run there from Denver. Also, we don't want to rent a car since there are no return facilities at RM National Park so we would have to pay $500 to keep the car for the week. Ideas? Anything helps! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: What city or state should I live in?

So I live in Colorado now and I do like it, but I don't want to stay here forever. So here's what I want in a place to live: Hot summers, snowy winters (not blizzards constantly though), nice falls, and nice springs. I want 4 distinct seasons. I also want to have a beach. I would like to live in a suburb of a relatively large city (similar to Denver or bigger is fine, just not much smaller). I'd love to live like 15 minutes from the downtown of the city. I don't want to live in a bad or rundown area what-so-ever. I want it to be a nice area, good for kids, etc. Within 4-5 hours of some great vacation spots would also be nice. Anyone have any ideas? more

Resolved Question: How much will my trip to Florida cost?

My family is planning a vacation for us to go to Orlando, Florida this summer. We will probably be taking a plane there for the 3 of us (middle class) from the Denver, Colorado airport. So my question is this; What would cost the least amount of money? Going straight from Denver to Orlando without any stops, or going on a plane that stops half-way to Orlando, then getting on a different plane the rest of the way? Please answer! Thank you! more

Voting Question: My boyfriend photoshopped his picture! Help!?

Please read all! Thank you. His before picture from this old website. http://i27.tinypic.com/fcjpsx.jpg The picture I took when we met: http://i25.tinypic.com/34jbvgl.jpg Okay, well nine months ago I met this totally awesome guy named Johnathan (John) on a dating website called okcupid.com After a couple weeks of first chatting we started talking on aim messanger then soon on the phone. He asked me out, even though I live in Denver and he lives in Flordia, we gave it a go. I usually don't date people online, but his good looks convinced me. Let's just say when I showed my girlfriends at work they gushed! So, he got some time off work for 4th of July summer vacation and I didn't even nodice him! He had the same face a bit, but he looked almost toally different. He did mention putting on some weight (like about 10 pounds) during the time of the superbowl, but this was about 60 pounds! He didn't have his normal hunk muscle body like he did in his pictures. I didn't think he was ugly from his voice on the phone. Let's just say he sounded like a macho Brat Pitt. We took some pictures while we came down, and as I went on his face book (he deleted his dating website because we we're at item) I compared his before me meeting him picture, and after. I think this is photoshopped. My question is: Do you guys think it is? & Plus! How should I dump him? I was going to let the looks slide and continue our relationship but after the BBQ he jumped in the pool and the sight off him shirtless really convinced me his looks weren't going to do it for us. I should have known... he sent me a picture of defined abs about 5 months ago claiming they were his but I couldn't tell since it was just an ab shot and the face was cut off. Questions is this photoshopped and How do I break up with him, what reason should I give him?His looks turned me off really bad, BUT he also started acting gross in person. Like how he ate, smelled like B.O, laughing at everything I said, and just our chemistry was off. more

Resolved Question: What is there to do in Denver, Colorado?

Resolved Question: A question for working parents?

Who minds your kids when school is let out for the summer? Do they attend camps, daycare, relatives, or are they old enough to mind themselves? I rack up as much vacation time as I can so I can be home with them for 2-3 weeks, then they are off to either Ireland or Denver (or both) for 6 weeks to visit family-Unlike some people, I don't sponge off my parents or the government. I work to take care of my kids- My kids LOVE going to visit their grand parents and cousins while I WORK to provide for them-I'm pretty sure "jap" is a derogatory/racist term for a person from Japan or of Japanese descent- I am neither- and my question was geared towards *working parents*, not SAHM's with a working spouse, or those who are supported by their parents and/or welfare- more

Resolved Question: Where to go on vacation in or around Colorado?

My wife, 1 year old son and myself live in the Denver area. We want to go on vacation this summer. We are considering visiting somewhere else in Colorado or one of the surounding states. We would like to do something possibly a little out of the norm. Can anyone reccomend and cool, interesting and or off the wall places to go? Thanks for you help!! more

Resolved Question: Returning from vacation - Can you solve this puzzle?

Five couples who live on Maple Avenue in Forestville were all away on vacation for the same two weeks during the summer. The Smiths had kept the keys to the houses of all five couples in order to water the plants. The couples are named Finn, Gersten, Hawkins, O'Malley, and Webster. They were each on vacation in a different one of these five cities: Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Reno, and Vancouver. Each couple returned by a different means of transportation, either airplane, camper, bus, car, or train. From the information given, determine the order in which they returned, where they had been, and how they got home. 1. The Websters arrived home earlier than the couple who were in Las Vegas but later than the couple who came back by airplane. 2. The couple returning from Reno did not come home by camper but they arrived after the couple returning from L.A. 3. The Hawkins arrived home before the Gerstens but after the Finns, who didn't return by airplane. 4. The couple who returned by bus arrived home later than the couple who returned by train but before the Hawkinses, however, none of these three couples had been to Denver or Vancouver. 5. The first couple to arrive home had not been to L.A., Reno, Vancouver, and neither had the Finns. more

Resolved Question: Looking for golf courses near Rocky Mt. NP and Denver area?

I will be on vacation this summer and will be stopping at Denver/Rocky Mountain National Park for a few days. Does anyone know of some really nice golf courses that are open to the public, not extremely expensive (keep it under $150) and don't require tee times 6 months in advance? I'm not sure which days I will be driving through there, so I can't reserve a tee time more than a day or two in advance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Anyone have ideas for a summer vacation driving distance from Denver Colorado?

I recently started working for a school and have all summer off with my 2 kids who are 8 (boy) and 10 (girl). I'm looking for a vacation spot within a day or two drive of the Denver area. We have already been to the mountain resorts and local spots many times and are looking for something fun that is a little further away. We enjoy sightseeing, the outdoors and educational experiences but don't have any camping equipment (and really don't want to buy it). Any suggestions or experiences to share? more

Resolved Question: Why am I afraid to move in with him? ?

I am a college student planning on taking 22 credit courses all ONLINE next year so that I can graduate a year early. My wonderful boyfriend of a 1 and half suggested that I move in with him to cut down on my bills and our traveling expenses since we are long-distance. I am from Denver, CO but I go to college in Las Vegas and he lives in Denver. I am a very independent person, putting myself through college, pay all my bills and support myself 100%. I understand that my fear is having to depend on him and knowing that if anything happens I will be homeless since I don’t have a family. Understand that I am a very private and introverted person while he is very open and extraverted man. I have lived with him over the summer for about 3 months and stay with him during school vacations but this time it would be much longer from January 09 till August 09 so about (7 months). We have talked about it; he wants back and promises to give me the space I need. He also understands that I am a very independent person and will be okay with whatever decision I make.  more

Resolved Question: Will you meet and greet celebrities (Romney & Giuliani) next week?

The national Republican Political Party has dispatched millionaires (several houses apiece) to take time from summer vacation to appear in your great city - - are you going to greet them with a big parade and a convention center for their speechmaking? thanks - - 10 points for best answer from a Denver Yahoo! memberUp the road from the Convention Center - - from Yahoo News story posted on Sunday Aug. 24 "The GOP effort includes a "war room" and media center less than a mile from the convention hall and making top Republicans such as Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney available for press conferences and satellite interviews to television stations across the country, especially in swing states. There's a new GOP web site (http://www.notready08.com) with videos and ads, along with plans for rapid responses to attacks on GOP nominee-to-be John McCain and to speeches from the Democrats. A staff of two dozen has set up shop in temporary workspace up the road from the Pepsi Center and thousands of journalists. Security at the war room is tight to avoid problems with Democratic protesters." more

Resolved Question: I think I'm cursed! Seriously you guys! Help?

For the last 8 summers of my life...and I mean every single one...on "vacation" the cars or transportation vehicles have broken down. One time we had to sleep in the ditch on the Interstate. Another time we broke down in Lima Montana and had to spend 500 dollars to get the car fixed...then about 2 summers ago we broke down in Denver during the heat wave...its like everything that happens with cars is miserable. No A/C!!! Ever...and like, about 3 summers ago we had to ride a Greyhound from AZ To MT and it was crazy because that also broke down in Utah!! I was like wtf? It was a scary experience let me tell you. This summer we also broke down...twice! I mean am I cursed? Geez luizz. I'm like freaked out to go on a plane anywhere. more

Resolved Question: A road trip or by plane- which would be cheapest? Which would be more reliable? Help!!?

I'm 17 years old and I live in New York, not too far from Buffalo. Next summer, I want to take a vacation to Colorado, in a city near Denver. Technically, I'd be celebrating my 18th birthday in Colorado... What should I do?! Should I purchase two one-way tickets? Or one roundtrip? Non-stop or connecting? And then there's the whole 17 age barrier to worry about because of domestic flights and unaccompanied minors. Do I have to worry about that or can I fly as an adult? Are there certain airways that condone that? Or should I take a car and drive myself to Colorado? Would that be cheaper? Would I even be allowed past state borders because I'm not 18?! And what about gas prices? And motel prices? I don't want to stop more than once along the way... I'm not going to have a lot of money by that time, and I'm planning to stay with a... friend in Colorado so I don't have to worry about motel prices there. Please help me... my whole life is riding on this trip!! more

Resolved Question: Can someone help me?

I have to make this hard decision for my summer vacation? Either go with my mom to Denver Colorado where my 1st cousin and aunt and grandma is not nice to me. I have 1 female cousin who is really nice to me. and where I can shop for cloths that I like and where I can hold baby puppies, and that I get to fly in airplanes. Colorado has nice restaurants where I like going. we're only staying for 2 weeks. Resolved Question: Am I Wrong to feel this way or maybe I'm just selfish/spoiled?

To make a long story short I took a trip to Denver Colorado last week & I had been in my hotel room after 2 hours maybe when I developed diarrhea which later turned into vomiting & low grade fever. I was no more stressed than usual & it wasn't food poisoning. I ended up spending 4 days vacation in bed with the first 2 days with the can by my bed. Now I'm back & I didn't ge to do a damn thing & I'm raving mad. Maybe i'm being manipulative or just acting out & maybe what I feel is perfectly normal I don't know. I want to go to the beachm or go to a water park & still have fun with what's left of summer. If i'm lucky I can go back to Denver in OCT. 08 but that's a LONG time away. Am I wrong for feeling like I deserve some consolation prize in a sense for getting sick ? Don't answer if you're going to be a donkey's rear end or a female dog.I didn't stay home btw: I went but I got sick 2 hours after checking into my hotel room. It's NOT fair & I'm never going to get to go anywhere do anything or have fun ever again. My life is over. more
