I was well aware of the smile on my face when my parents planned our summer vacation at our relatives house. My brother, Zac who is 3 years old, jumped up and down, shouting in joy. Open Question: How many days of school can I miss, do you reccomend it?

My school now became a charter school, so they are cutting our summer by three weeks, I might go on vacation and I would have to return August 29 we have to return to school by August 17 so I would miss two weeks of school, is it ok to miss that much since its excused, but its going to be my sophmore year and I signed up for two ap classes, they seem really easy so if I return will I have to finish work that I missed or will it be little since its the first two weeks of school, or should I just come back before school starts, but anyone who has experience or an idea, what do you think is best? more

Open Question: Need some advice and recommendations for a high school overachiever?

I'm a Junior in high school, and I'm an overachiever. With that being said, I've stressed myself out a little too much about the future, I'm pretty good at most things I try, and now I'm stuck because I'm confused about the future. I was thinking about taking a gap year before college and just explore the world and get my mind together, but my parents would like to do an earlier intervention and want to send me away for a month during my summer vacation, so I can get my thoughts together and find myself without influences of other. Open Question: What do you think is the "Standard" Visitation Schedule for a non custodial parent who lives 45 miles away?

I have a child who now currently sees his father for 48 hours every week, but he is now starting kindergarten in the fall and I think the schedule should be every other weekend (friday 5 pm to Sunday 5 pm) and on the weekend he wouldn't have him he'd get a midweek visit from 5-8 p.m and two weeks vacation in the summer (in addition to this schedule). The problem is that the dad is trying to get half of the summer in addition, along with ALL of my sons school holidays. We've been in mediation for this and the dad has admitted to wanting his time increased so he doesn't have to pay child support anymore. I feel that half of the summer with his dad wouldn't be good for him because he has 3 siblings at home with me and his stepdad. Should i keep the court order the same and hope that he gets our son to school in time (he lives in wisconsin and i live in mn) and if he wants extra time to make him bring me to court to do so? He is being extremly shaddy and difficult so i don't know what to do, please help, i know he's not doing this for our son's best interest. more

Hi! I'm trying to loose a lot of weight right now for a couple of reasons. Such as: getting back into shape, keeping my kidney functions at peak performance (I had kidney failure when I was two, so they're a little beat up), to look sexy in my swim suit for summer vacation (I like looking nice for my boyfriend =3), and to just begin a healthy lifestyle. I'm currently 167 lbs. 5 feet 3 inches tall (or short, depending how you look at it XD). A girl. Sixteen years old. My goal is to loose thirty, to thirty-five lbs in three or four months. Can anyone help me with the following questions? 1.) What should an ideal diet consist of? 2.) Recommended amount of exercise per day? 3.) Should I diet on weekends? 4.) My boyfriend and I are taking our dream vacation for 6 days and 5 nights to WDW this summer! We're staying at the All-star Movies Value resort and we're going to hit all the theme parks and the two water parks, plus downtown disney. We're not on a dining plan and we're not doing park hopper. my goal is to get as many autographs as time allows, ride tons of rides, get lots of vids and pics, etc. Any tips for saving money, meeting more characters, making better time, getting on good rides sooner, places to sit for parades and fireworks, must see shows, and things that I could bypass without regret, would be great for planning our first, and best real vacation. I am plagued with one hair nightmare after the other. I dream and long for Sexy long hair and havnt been touching my hair to save up and be able to style and feel good about it this summer and not have this stupid scraggly bob, looks soo bad on me! Iv seriously put my life on hold, always hiding out because your hair really is your best accessory So i broke this past week, should have waited for right before summer but couldnt stand my highlights, so I recently went to a salon that uses redkin, asked for a light to medium chesnut brown to even out my goofy old highlights that where making me washed out. I choose their first considered brown after the blondes in the hair swatch book, which i thought would guarantee it wouldnt turn out to dark like the previous time I had been there. It came out darker, same result as any time i have ever died my hair at home. a discusting black muddy brown. and she even worse she added so many stupid ornge highlights ontop, in the sunlight it is a ghastly purple and red/black it realy is cheetafied and as my boyfriend says looks like i got the walmart special... i am so sick of this happening to me oh not to mentions how much hair dye was left on the back of my neck hair line and all over my scalp...iv had a head ace for days and my scalp is so soar, hair is ruined so please offer some advice.. oh and you should see the ridiculous cut i asked specificaly not for. The salon said i could come in on tuesday to fix it.. i remember they used a lighting shampoo once to lift an awful at home job i did.. is this shampoo they used bad .. and with redkin products is the color correction process that bad? do you think it will cause alot of damage.. wont give my hair a chance to get life back before summer? think i should just wait wash it out to dye it when it realy matters before summer when people start arriving on this little vacation island. I am so bummed and restless can barely sleep just was hoping someone out there could make me feel better mayby tell some awful stories of their own reassure me hair products are much better then what they where. my hair is totally fruit-loops now i have already scheduled a cut and color with a real expert in may.... so i just wonder if i shuould stick it out with the awful hair,, wash wash wash so that in may my hair will have a better chance to be real hair... im just worried that any color stripping shampoo or process is realy going to give me the worst hair more

I'm sixteen years old and a junior in high school, and while my time left in school is respectively coming to an end in retrospect I think I would be more proficient, knowledgeable, and essentially more prepared for both higher education and ultimately life, if I had year long schooling. Obviously the biggest disadvantage to kids is not having 3 months off during the summer, but every kid knows around the second month they get antsy and would rather get back in school than to sit around and do a whole lot of nothing for another month. Hi, i am 8th grade student in nyc, and my mother decided to move to california La Crescenta which is near by the Los Angelos. I ll be attending Crescenta Senior Valley High School ( public) when i move in. We probabaly will going to move during early summer vacation.(first or second week of july) I'd called the school, and they said I have to take the test for determining my level. I am pretty confidence with math, but not in english. To tell my story little bit, honestly I am still in ESL. When i first came to america, i attended public school in queens nyc. After 1 year, i moved to New Jersey bergen county and passed esl in 6th grade( which was my 3rd year in american school, i passed pretty late). Start 6th grade, i was getting proficents for my state exam. I got proficent on my 6th and 7th grade Language art state exam. I didnt even have extra time becasue i passed esl. However, i moved back to nyc last august and i am attending 8th grade in nyc public schoo, which i am not really happy with.( i am asian and no asian friends only hispanics) I was surprised when my new school said i had to be in esl class because when i first came to america, i didnt pass nyc esl exam and moved to nj, so they told me that i have to pass the nyc esl exam. so i asked for the test and they said i have to wait untill the aprill. Even though i finish the test i still have to wait untill results and results will be coming in almost end of 8th grade. In my nj school, i always got higher than B for language art but in here, i got 65(1st marking0 and 82 (2nd marking). The real problem is that same thing might happen when i go to californina. I really really dont want to be in esl class in high school because of college. Like what i said above, the Crescenta Senior Valley High School where i ll be attending 9th grade this september said that i have to take test for determining the level of me. Can anyone tell me what that test might be or some names of state test of california? And is there specific esl test in california? Like in ny, we call ny esl exam NYSESLAT. If there is sepcific name tell me and i want to study the california language art state test and california esl exam. Resolved Question: What do I do about my friends leaving me out all the time?

I am in 8th grade. At the beginning of the school year, a new school was built in my area and I switched schools. NONE of my friends came with me. Ever since summer vacation, it's like my friends have gradually been drifting away from me. At the last school, there was a group of about 4 of us. We hung out together and what not and it was all good. :D Then, I got into a huge fight with two of the people in the group and I'm kinda NOT friends with them anymore. My other friends, who I have known way longer than the other two, are still friends with them. Ever since summer vacation, one of my friends has labeled herself bi and now has a crush on one of my other friends (who she is very close to me as well.) Although there were 4 of us, I am only really close with two of them (the bi and her "crush", both of whom are my best friends.) Not only that, but it's like I don't matter as much to them. My thoughts and my opinions aren't worth as much. Over the months, they've gradually stopped talking to me as much. I have to put forth the conversation, and when I ask about hanging out they usually just decline and say they have plans or that they can't. I put on a brave face and be cool about it, but really I'm broken. This is even in cases where I've asked a week in advance to hang out. I have other friends, and I hang out with them too, but these two people are my best friends. I've known them the longest (ever since middle school, when I moved here.) I don't know what I did. I'm always nice, I quickly take the blame for arguments just to avoid fights in the first place, I give them gifts and I make them laugh. We share secrets and have fun. Now? Not so much. They're indifferent towards me. They don't care about my feelings. They shrug it all off. Really recently, (today actually) The friend I'm not friends with anymore, and my two best friends went to go see Alice In Wonderland. I actually ASKED one of my friends on SUNDAY if we should go see it together and tag along my other best friend too. She told me that she already had plans to go see it. I was just talking to my other best friend (the crush one) on Facebook and she told me that she just got back from seeing the movie with both of them. She also told me that they just planned to see it on Wednesday. (This is the one my bi friend has a crush on. She's very mellow and gives the straight facts. I guarantee that she isn't lying or anything.) Why did my other friend lie to me? This is DEFINITELY not the first time she's done things without me. And I can't just stop being friends with her. I really do care about her. I don't want to lose another best friend. I have talked to them about it a couple of times face to face. (I don't talk about serious matters over texts or IM). They say sorry but don't understand how they're leaving me out. I'm sinking into depression and am always crying. And no, I can't just make new friends at my school. I'm not shy or anything. I'm actually pretty social, but I'm not close enough to anyone there that I'd actually call a friend and hang out with. I've had a sit down talk with both my parents and told them everything, and they gave me advice and it's helped a little bit, but now it's worse than when we started. Do they ignore me because I don't go to school with them anymore? Not seeing me face to face just makes them forget about me? What do I do? I just can't pretend to be happy anymore.I actually did call up one of my other best friends to ask if she wanted to see the movie with me. I've still got her and another one at least. I think my bi friend is just going through a phase. :\ I think she got two wires crossed and now she thinks she's bisexual all of a sudden. She could be so... young sometimes. (But I'm young too so...?)Thanks, you guys make me feel motivated. :D It's not that they're bad friends. It's not like they do this a LOT. I'm just having trouble with mainly one friend (and that affects almost all my friends) I have a couple of friends going to Charter high schools, but most of them are just going to the one near their junior high. But you are right. I AM young and everyone goes through this I figured that out soon enough, I guess when you're young though, it feels like the whole world will shatter with just one tiny crack. I've told myself I'll make more friends in high school, and I will. Actually, most of my friends are guys, the only girl ones are the ones I listed. Anyways, thanks for motivating me. I am a certified secondary Social Studies Teacher in MD. I have been unable to find a permanent position since graduating in May 2009. So, I have been substitute teaching this year while waiting for employment. During summer time, however, I will not have a job so I thought I could teach summer school. I'd like to know what its like. Do I need to make regular lesson plans? How many tests do you give? Is there a lot of planning involved? Or any other useful information. :'( me and her have been through so much together and then in 8th grade she branched out and started making more friends and just started to become more outgoing. she worked her way into the "musician/pot head group" but not all of them smoke. theyre nice and she has 2 best friends in that group of people. one of them is a guy who is liked by most people and him and her are really close and then her other best friend who before had no friends is getting all the attention from my best friend that i am losing. they all have so much free time and they always hang out after school but my parents are really strict and plus i have to go home after school to do hw and then i have to go to swim practice. i rarely get to hang out with them. im a freshman now and at the end of 8th grade towards the summer i got to hang out with all of them and go chill at their houses and i felt wanted but this year i dont have classes with any of them. and now that we're in high school my "best friend" is making friends with the older "musician/potheads". even though i do have friends i still feel lonely but i never let anyone know about my pain. i pray to God at night and ask for everything to be ok. i have a lot of friends from swimming but my swim team is falling apart and now theres no one anymore and the friends i have at school arent all friends. i talk to people from all different kinds of groups but i dont hang out with them outside of school. my best friend and her other best friend go on vacation together and i wonder if she stil wants me in her life. she never askes me to hang out anymore and all her attention is on her other best friend. they became friends in middle school but before that me and my "best friednd" were best friends. i dont know where i went wrong. i wish i could be a big part of her life, the person she tells secrets to and the one she calls to ask to hang out. but im not anymore :( i still want her in my life but idk what to do. i feel like her and her best friend are too close for me to catch up. maybe u can understand this, or maybe u dont understand. but i just feel lonely inside and my school its so hard to be in a group of friends this late into everything. most people have been friends since 6th grade but unfortunately i never got to get the chance to form my own group of friends and everytime theres a big event at school i dread it because i never have fun since i dont have a group of friends. more

So over the summer, Im planning a vacation for me and my girlfriend to disneyland. Were planning to stay near the park for around 2-3 days but after we want to experience other parts of CA. Were flying to ca from jersey and were only 21 so we cant rent a car. So were looking for places to go near disneyland thats within taxi range, and get a hotel, perhaps near a beach.
