Governor Of Texas Questions asked

Open Question: LIberals: if George Bush and Sarah Palin are idiots....?

...then what does that say about you? Bush has a bachelors degree from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. he flew F-102 fighters. he was part owner, and managing general partner, of the Texas Rangers (he's often criticized for how he ran this business but his initial $800,000 was worth $15million just 9 years later). he was Governor of Texas and a 2 term US President. and, as President, he faced one of the biggest challenges and threats in the form of 9/11... and he successfully led the War on Terror. Palin led her high school basketball team to a state championship. she has a bachelors degree in communications and worked as a sportscaster for TV stations. she has raised 5 children, one with down syndrome. she worked her way up from city council to Governor of Alaska and Vice Presidential Candidate. she's a best selling author and has commanded as much as $100,000 for speaking engagements. so my angry, irrational liberal friends... what state did you Govern? what was the title of your best selling book? LOL... just as i thought. now, before someone tries to suggest Obama is their equal... save yourself the time. he won't even release his academic records (because he's an affirmative action baby and didn't have the grades)... he was a lawyer (big deal, there are thousands, and thousands, or lawyers in the world... and they aren't all that bright)... he was a community organizer (LOL... ok). and, because he's black and had Soros, the media, etc. behind him he became President (though he's failing miserably at it). but.... this isn't about Obama. it's about YOU. you liberals who are infected with BDS and PDS... you are the ones who like to insult Bush and Palin. you are the ones who call them dumb rednecks, etc. so, how do you stack up against them?! LOL... you don't! more

can you please explain this to me! i am trying to undertand =] thanks more

Open Question: Ok.. pt 2 - you say Bush deceived the dems and the public on WMD's?

Amazing how he was still the Texas Governor when all these quotes were made. What say you? " "If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed my Iraq's WMD program." -- BILL CLINTON FEB 17, 1998 "He will use those WMD again, as he has ten times since 1993." -- SANDY BERGER (Clinton Nat Sec Adv) FEB 18, 1998. "Iraq is a long way from (here), but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our Allies is the greatest security we face." -- MADELINE ALBRIGHT (Clinton Secretary of State) FEB 18, 1998 "[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton, signed by: -- Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998 "Saddam has been engaged in the development of WMD technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." -- Rep. NANCY PELOSI (D, CA) DEC 16, 1998 "Hussein has... chosen to spend his money on building WMD and palaces for his cronies." -- MADELINE ALBRIGHT (Clinton Secretary of State) NOV 10, 1999TO: Moderates Unite..... #1 Bush/Cheney was not even in office. #2 Clinton was the president #3 your CIA claim, the director of the CIA at the time was nominated by Clinton and he reported to Clinton ( the President ). You still blame Bush who was the Texas Governor during all this? ROFL!!TO: Truth Seeker...all of these quotes mean what? sling shot rocks from the Kuwaiti border? Get real. English, it's in plain English.John V......Was your mouth operating on full cylinders like it is now when all of the dem leaders and politcians were making these and other quotes before you even knew who GWB was? Resolved Question: Why don't the Gideons get hot teenage girls to pass out Bibles instead of men in suits?

I was at the library last week, and I guess it was Republican Primary Day for governor in Texas, so there were quite a few voters coming to the community college that day. And there were two men in suits and sunglasses who'd say "Free Bible?" and offer you one. Naturally, I said "No thanks" but it got me wondering... If a really cute chick had offered that Bible, I probably wouldn't have declined her. Why don't the Gideons send out girls to pass out Bibles? Let's face it: sex sells! more

Open Question: Texans (and others) what is your spin on the past election?

The current and preceding two term Governor of Texas Rick Perry just beat Kay Bailey Hutchison, the current Senator from Texas in a primary for governorship. His take on it is Texans are fed up with Washington insiders. I might add Hutchison was endorsed by the Sr. Bushes and Bush family friend Nolan Ryan. On the other hand incumbent Congress woman Shelia Jackson Lee also a Washington insider won her primary by a large margin. It doesn't fit Perry's spin. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: Does Rove book necessitate apology inside Bush's Decision Points (forthcoming this fall)?

here's some preliminary review comments about the Karl Rove book and the rationale for the Bush-Cheney decision to invade Iraq in March 2003 -- WASHINGTON — Karl Rove, the chief political adviser to President George W. Bush and architect of his two successful campaigns for the White House, says in a new memoir that Mr. Bush probably would not have invaded Iraq had he known there were no unconventional weapons there. Mr. Rove adamantly rejects accusations that the administration deliberately lied about the presence of such weapons in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq. But he acknowledges that the failure to find them badly damaged Mr. Bush’s presidency, and he blames himself for not countering the narrative that “Bush lied,” calling it “one of the biggest mistakes of the Bush years.” Mr. Rove’s book offers the most expansive account yet of the Bush presidency by one of the people most responsible for it. Addressing the most controversial and consequential moments of Mr. Bush’s eight years in power, Mr. Rove takes responsibility for the widely criticized Air Force One flyover after Hurricane Katrina and writes that he secretly cried in his White House office when he learned he would not be indicted in a C.I.A. leak case. For the most part, his book, “Courage and Consequence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight,” to be published by Threshold Editions on Tuesday, is an unapologetic defense of Mr. Bush and his presidency, and takes aim at Democrats, the news media and disloyal Republicans for what he describes as hypocrisy, deceit and vanity. He also recounts his hardscrabble upbringing in a family broken by divorce and his mother’s suicide. The book is the latest in a stream by top figures from the Bush administration. Mr. Rove’s may carry special interest given his outsized reputation as the political maestro who vaulted a Texas governor to the presidency and guided him through a tumultuous tenure that saw war, terrorism, natural disaster and recession. A hero to conservatives and villain to liberals, Mr. Rove may be the most high-profile White House aide in modern times. In offering his take on history, Mr. Rove ruminates on what would have happened had Mr. Bush known the truth about the absent unconventional weapons, known as weapons of mass destruction, or W.M.D., in Iraq. While the opportunity to bring democracy to the Middle East as a bulwark against Islamic extremism “justified the decision to remove Saddam Hussein,” Mr. Rove says the suspected weapons were the primary justification for war. “Would the Iraq War have occurred without W.M.D.? I doubt it,” he writes. “Congress was very unlikely to have supported the use-of-force resolution without the W.M.D. threat. The Bush administration itself would probably have sought other ways to constrain Saddam, bring about regime change, and deal with Iraq’s horrendous human rights violations.” www.nytimes.com -- Peter Baker article more

Resolved Question: How can I tell my girlfriend this?

I met an amazing girl and we have been going out for 6 months. Unfortunately, I come from a parallel universe and I must go home. How can I convince her to come along? In case you people are wondering, here is what is different in my universe: I nearly got into an accident when I first came here, funny thing is, red MEANS GO in my universe and GREEN MEANS STOP. We use blue for slow down, but apparently it's yellow here. Halt signs, or what you people call stop signs, say HALT in black lettering on a white pentagon. WWII lasted from 1938-1950, as the talks with Churchill failed and the war started. I was curious to see that you people managed to invent the atom bomb earlier- something we didn't come across until 1956. You were able to end the war 5 years earlier. I chuckled too when I found out Elvis Presley was a singer in the 1950s here, for us he was the governor of Texas and was an advocate for preserving oil, something that apparently helped us greatly. You guys and your silly oil crisis... Besides that, not too many noticeable differences. Some of the styles here are wretched and the music still confuses me...Sir, may I add that I am referring to my universe, and you should be thankful it ended in 1945 here! We had at least another million causalties on both sides! more

Open Question: What's it like being gay in Texas? Do you feel sorry for gay people (or really just anyone) from Texas?

I live in New York and it's just bizarre to most people up here how right-wing Texas politics are. I've been following the Texas governor campaigns lately and it's just crazy how right-wing the three candidates are. Two right-wingers and one really far right-winger. I feel thankful to live in a civilized part of the country. So for those of you who are gay in Texas ... what is it like? Isn't it basically like living in some sort of Christian theocracy? Do you feel oppressed? Are you ever going to try and escape? Or do you actually like it there? more

Resolved Question: What is Texas' general opinion of Kay Bailey Hutchison?

I go to a school where almost half of the student population is from Texas and when I ask them what their opinion of Kay Bailey Hutchison is they almost all reply they don't like her and this is coming from people that I know that are very conservative. It also looks like she's going to get beaten very badly in the Republican Primary today for Governor and that gives an impression that the Republican party simply doesn't like Kay Bailey Hutchison. I guess my overall question would be if both Texas Democrats and Republicans don't like Hutchison why have they elected her to three terms in the Senate? more

Resolved Question: Why does everyone say that Bush is from Texas when he's NOT?

Is it because he was Governor of Texas or what? Both of the Bush's were born and raised in Massachusetts yet everyone is always like "THANKS TEXAS FOR GIVING US STUPID BUSH!" Where do people get that?Or maybe because he lives in Texas? I don't know... more

Resolved Question: Why does it seem like a lot of Americans are angry about politics and stuff - just for the sake of being mad?

I had dinner with my old football coach from high school along with his wife and some of his friends. These people are mostly in their 60's, and mostly working-class, and it's a fairly rural area here in Texas. And man, some of them were MAD about politics! Everyone from Obama to Texas governor Rick Perry to Nancy Pelosi to Texas senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, among others. I don't mean they were just being cynical or joking - some of them seemed genuinely mad on a personal level with the political situation in the US. Why? Why would you let something as silly as politics affect your emotions in that way? It can't possibly be healthy. It probably raises your blood pressure and worsens your stress hormone levels. I never get mad about politics. What's the point? I just do my thing, work for my dad's firm, make some bank, hit up the nightclubs with the ladies and drink the good stuff on bottle service. That's what other people should do, too. They should relax and just not worry about politics. Now, to be fair, I do always vote in every election, and I try to pick the dude who will cut the most taxes. Why can't Americans see the wisdom of this path? Why would they get mad about stuff that is so abstract to begin with? I mean, come on - politics in general is mostly irrelevant. It's just a more boring version of football, with two sides, except that it never ends. more

Resolved Question: what do these civil war quotes say to you....?

"What passes as standard American history is really Yankee history written by New Englanders or their puppets to glorify Yankee heroes and ideals." --- Dr. Grady McWhiney "Governor, if I had foreseen the use these people desired to make of their victory, there would have been no surrender at Appomattox, no, sir, not by me. Had I seen these results of subjugation, I would have preferred to die at Appomattox with my brave men, my sword in this right hand." --- General Robert E. Lee, CSA - as told to Texas ex-governor F. W. Stockdale ". . .a union that can only be maintained by swords and bayonets and in which strife and civil war are to take the place of brotherly love and kindness has no charm for me. I shall mourn for my country and for the welfare of mankind. If the union is dissolved and the government disrupted, I shall return to my native state and share the miseries of my people, and save in defence, will draw my sword on none." --- General Robert E. Lee, CSA "My shoes are gone; my clothes are almost gone. I'm weary, I'm sick, I'm hungry. My family have been killed or scattered. And I have suffered all this for my country. I love my country. But if this war is ever over, I'll be damned if I ever love another country." --- Confederate Soldier During Retreat To Appomattox "There are at present many Coloured men in the Confederate Army doing duty not only as cooks, servants and labourers, but real soldiers, having muskets on their shoulders, and bullets in their pockets". --- Frederick Douglas - Autumn Of 1861Here is one more. Resolved Question: Corruption: Can you bottom this?

Banner day today for news stories that are a sign of the times. #1. Race is on for the Texas governor election. Republican in trouble because he refuses to answer questions about rising unemployment during his term. Asked about it on live radio, he said, "It's true, we've lost 270,000 jobs but the rate has slowed." But the commentator slams him by pointing out that there were actually 350,000 jobs lost on the private sector, while 80,000 NEW ones were created -- guess where? IN TEXAS GOVERNMENT!!! Not exactly what you'd call your basic anti-big-government scenario. Eerie was the sidelight about the 'Tea Party Independent' candidate who, according to the commentary, lost her points and position when she appeared on the Glenn Beck radio show and was asked about US Government complicity in the events of 9/11. She said, "There's a lot of evidence, but I think it is premature to say it is sure." Guess what. Her viewpoint was TOO MODERATE! Heresy! OFF WITH HER HEAD! Now, you'd think that double-barreled fiasco would for sure be the top hypocrite story of the day. But that would be ignoring Florida -- ALWAYS a mistake when duplicity is the subject. #2: It turns out that there's a Florida legal-eagle guy named Freeman who, after being named business "Man of the Year" in 2005 became, with recent events, the Golden Boy of choice to clean up finance; being appointed as Receiver by the courts when all the bankruptcies, foreclosures and defaults began to pile sky-high. He's the one who steps in to stop the bleeding, taking possession of what is left and liquidates it so that the poor folks who have been scammed and lost their homes or life savings or whatever it is get at least something back after the crooks like Bernie Madoff are caught, or corporations go under leaving nothing but office furniture and shredded paper behind. Well hang onto your hat. Sir Galahad Freeman was indicted today in Miami for like a bazillion counts of larceny, fraud, and grand theft. Turns out he was skimming all along , and took millions of dollars for himself. Actually stealing from the people who had already been stolen from! You have to admire the chutzpah, I guess. Call it "Equity Recycling". #3: Meanwhile, I heard yet another one of those chummy TV advertisements in the new vein from some investment company or other -- all about "We know how it is. We look after you like family in these tough times", and so on. But when the name-hook came at the end, I almost fell out of my chair. No, you'll never guess. AIG. It's the old riddle: Q: Why do people who live next to Niagara Falls have ears that stick out and a flat forehead? A: Because every morning they wake up and say, "What's that noise?" *hands push ears out*, and then "Oh! The FALLS!" *slaps forehead*. more

Resolved Question: What are THE DUTIES of my State Representative and Governor?

In the recent POLITICAL-HUM-DRUMMING, I am seeking a few specifics about the state officer duties of State Representative and state Governor. I want to know WHAT the candidates are supposed to do / accomplish - and what are thier limitations during their terms in office. - I still recall reading about some "MANIFESTO" (I know this is not the correct term, but it is what I am seeking) about each political office during my Government class in my Sophomore year of High school. %I reside and vote in TEXAS. Voting Question: Class Election Help please?

We are holding a fake election in our class, can you tell me if this is enough: I assure a cheery “Good afternoon!” to our dearest Mr. Fagert, along with the rest of the class. Because nobody in my group wanted to be in the election for governor, I am standing in front of you today, ready to tackle whatever comes my way. First of all, I would like to address my following concerns and issues before I continue: Illegal Immigration, State Spending and Taxes, Education, Texas Trans Highway, and last, but not least, my choice: Smoking. Illegal Immigration, a word that already has a negative side to it. Many people have invaded our country, leading into a vicious attack. One of the ways these horrible people sneak in is through the border. Yes, that line between Texas and Mexico. Illegal Immigration started about 30-40 years ago. To prevent our state, along with the rest of the country, from being in the hands of violent trespassers, I have a few suggestions. 1. I know you’ve probably heard it at least 300 times, but WE NEED MORE BORDER SECURITY! This helps ensure our state’s safety. 2. Instead of focusing more on closing/securing the border, we need to do one thing and make everyone present right now a legal citizen. Now I’m not saying, just go to each house and make everyone legal. We need to start scanning fingerprints, passports, and history backgrounds of each person, then decide whether to make a legal citizen or not. This will make the process faster. Today, we all know we are falling into a recession. We’ve fell into the hole, and we haven’t climbed out yet. Well, Texas has a part in that too, hence the name the United States. Currently, signing a bill on June 19th 2009, our governor passed a 2 year budget of 182.3 billion dollars. Now, think about it. If we cut taxes on many businesses, won’t we have more money to spread among all you and to provide more for more important issues? IF I become governor, I hope to do just that. Education: Though the kids right there (point) may groan at this. We have to face the truth- We need it! Without education, no one would invent I-Pods, cell phones, CHOCOLATE, or even, those new Apple Tablet I-Pads. We need to enforce kids with more fun stuff to do. The kids of today, I have to admit, get soooo bored with the curriculum sometimes! I suggest the following: 1. laptops for those who can’t afford one, this is for studying uses, and for entertainment at times 2. We need teachers who can understand children’s stress nowadays! And Mr. Fagert, you’re a perfect example of what a teacher should be: Semi-Sweet, a little strict, but overpowering kindness. We all have heard of or have known a person in a tragic car accident. Well, maybe there’s some way we can prevent most accidents from occurring? 1. I suggest encountering a group of people called “Traffic Patrol”. Many accidents happen because of street light failures. To put it in simple words, you know, when you’re stopped at an intersection, and there’s a green light at both places? Yikes. Instances like these are the cost of valuable lives. Traffic Patrol can be stationed at different areas of Texas. Basically, they get paid (not from your taxes) to see if traffic lights and stop signs are accurate. If something isn’t working, or is misplaced, they immediately are to enlighten a company, who will fix it later. 2. We need to be stricter about using cell phones while driving. You know how many people die of using cell phones when driving? Enough to make companies like Geico and Allstate a killing! With me as governor, I promise to enhance a better driving environment. Smoking is the number one cause for Cancer. We all know cancer is a serious thing, yet we know that smoking is bad… How come people can’t connect these two facts together and try their hardest to quit? Well, maybe because most people who still smoke don’t know this. How much did our government spend on smoking education last year? None. If you elect me as governor, I promise to ensure that smoking is bad, and provide a tragic-free state. Well, you’re all probably sleeping in your chairs, so I’ll finish my speech here. And remember: Vote for *****! more

Resolved Question: What do you think of Debra Medina?

The lady running for Texas Governor. Honestly, most people were willing to vote for her, considered her an honest respectable candidate. However, after the Glen Beck interview, (funny how media has so much power to effect public opinion) she was asked deliberately about 9/11. Firstly, why would glen ask that, as it has NOTHING to do with the Issues she is talking about. Secondly, I think it was deliberate because some people just do not want to see these kinds of republicans getting attention. Her answer was simply, that the people haven't received an answer about many questions regarding 9/11. That is all she said, and was labeled a 9/11 truther. btw, there is a reason they are called "truthers" because believe it or not, there some truth in their argument. It's disgusting to me how that one interview was her downfall as Glen Beck says "I can write here off the list".... more

Resolved Question: Goldman Sachs Summer Analyst in Services Division?

I am a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, pursuing International Relations (liberal arts) as a major and perhaps also a minor in Business Administration. I will soon finish my first year working (as a freshman intern within the legal department) at the ACLU of Texas. My sophomore year might consist of me being an RA at my college dormitory and also a summer internship in the Texas Governor's Fellowship Program. My GPA isn't that great but will sure balance out in 2-3 semesters to be deemed overall "competitive." I have big entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for excellence, a commercial mindset, and enjoy global commerce. My junior-year summer, I want to intern at Goldman Sachs in their Services Division, particularly in Corporate Services & Real Estate. What does Goldman Sachs desire in prospects for the Services division? It's not like I'm applying for an internship in the I-Banking or Securities divisions... I have about two years to work EXTREMELY hard to boost up my resume, GPA, leadership, and image in general. Is there anything I should particularly focus to achieve this? I am willing to go out of my way and work hard to make this become a reality. more

Resolved Question: Who's more believable on climate science - Texas politicians or the state climatologists?

With the approval of Gov. Rick Perry, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott filed paperwork to challenge the Environmental Protection Agency’s endangerment finding that CO2 poses a danger to public health. Texas State Climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon (professor in the Texas A&M Department of Atmospheric Sciences, PhD from MIT) utterly dismissed the attacks on climate science in Attorney General Abbott’s petition, saying "if atmospheric concentrations of the six greenhouse gases continue to rise due to human influence, the Earth would eventually reach a point where there would be massive disruptions of ecosystems, changes in sea level, decreases in air quality, and so forth that would, in particular, substantially harm the public welfare of those generations forced to experience them. So anthropogenic increases of greenhouse gas concentrations clearly present a danger to the public welfare, and I agree with the EPA’s findings" Dr. Andrew Dessler, a climatologist at Texas A&M University also states “I, along with all of the other faculty in the department, agree with the main conclusions of the IPCC.” http://climateprogress.org/2010/02/19/texas-state-climatologist-disputes-state%e2%80%99s-anti-science-petition-greenhouse-gases-clearly-present-a-danger-to-the-public-welfare/ Who's more believable - Texas politicians or Texas A&M climate scientists? And by the way before accusing climate scientists of bias, consider that by opposing the governor, Nielsen-Gammon if anything is putting his position as state climatologist at risk. And why didn't Texan politicians consult their state's climate science experts before challenging the EPA on a climate science matter? more

Resolved Question: Do these illegal immigrant supporters seem peaceful to you?

"We have an aging white America... They are dying... We have got to eliminate the gringo, and what I mean by that is if the worst comes to the worst, we have got to kill him." -- Jose Angel Gutierrez, professor, University of Texas, Arlington and founder of the La Raza Unida political party "...We're here today to show L.A., show the minority people here, the Anglo-Saxons, that we are here, the majority, we're here to stay. We do the work in this city, we take care of the spoiled brat children... We're here in Westwood... to show white Anglo-Saxon Protestant L.A., the few of you who remain, that we are the majority, and we claim this land as ours, it's always been ours, and we're still here, and none of the talk about deporting." -- Fabian Nunez, California assemblyman "The American Southwest seems to be slowly returning to the jurisdiction of Mexico without firing a single shot." -- The Excelsior, the national newspaper of Mexico "If anyone's going to be deported, it's going to be you!... It's not enough to elect Latino leadership. If they're supporting legislation that denies the undocumented driver's license, they don't belong in office friends." -- Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles "Power is not given to you, (Hispanics) you have to take it! People say to me when I was on the Senate floor, when I was in the Senate, why do you fight so hard for affirmative action programs. And I tell my white colleagues: because you're gonna need them. Remember, Proposition 187 is the last gasp of white America." -- Art Torres, former California Democratic Party Chairman "California is going to be a Hispanic state. Resolved Question: Is Dem's Texas candidate for governor a rising star in his party since he said "white are unwilling to work"?

http://dallasmorningviewsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2010/02/shami-outdoes-m.html And that he seconded the conspiracy theory of Debra Medina that Bush was behind the attack of 9/11. The first-time candidate talked about why he hires mostly Hispanics and blacks to work in his factories. "I find 80 percent of my employees at the factory are Hispanics," Shami said. "I don't find, you know, many white people really willing to work, you know, unfortunately." He added that white workers want to be supervisors and expect to be paid more. Then, when a second interviewer asked Shami about Medina's comments regarding 9/11 conspiracy theories, he, too, declined to disavow suggestions that the U.S. government might have been involved in the attacks. more

Resolved Question: Why does the Republican establishment always use 9/11 to smear candidates who would actually limit government?

At the moment, Debra Medina is being victimized by the 9/11 smear after a hatchet job of an interview on Glenn Beck's radio program the other day. Medina is the serious limited government candidate running against big government Republicans Rick "Gardasil" Perry and Kay Bailout Hutchinson. I don't see how 9/11 is a relevant issue in a Texas governor race and I don't see how any honest person would ask a candidate for state-level office about an issue irrelevant to state office (or vote for a person based on their views on such issues). All Medina said in the interview was that there are some things we still don't know about 9/11 and it was pretty clear that she does not believe in the discredited theory that blames the federal government for 9/11. Previously, they have used this same smear against Ron Paul to sabotage his presidential campaign and even have attempted to use it against Kentucky Senate frontrunner Rand Paul. In this case, the accusations have even less merit, as the Pauls have been accused of "blaming America" for 9/11 because they consider the question of motive to be important and come to the same conclusion as the CIA on that question (that 9/11 was "blowback" as a result of our foreign policy). Why do the Republicans always use 9/11 as a wedge issue to attempt to discredit candidates who actually stand for limited constitutional government? more

Resolved Question: Arnold in the Olympics? CA is the Largest state now? wow?

California is not the largest state, Olympics-man. Do your homework...its 3rd after Alaska and Texas. "VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA (AP)—The IOC has no problem with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger running with the Olympic torch, despite his past admission of steroid use. Schwarzenegger is scheduled to carry the torch Friday, the final day of the relay in Vancouver. He will hand off the torch to Sebastian Coe, the two-time Olympic gold medalist who heads the organizing committee for the 2012 London Games. Schwarzenegger has said in the past that he used steroids in his bodybuilding days, long before they became illegal without a prescription. International Olympic Committee spokesman Mark Adams says he doesn’t know details but presumes Schwarzenegger’s steroid use took place 20-30 years ago. “I think we accept that all people have served time and if they’ve talked about what they’ve done we would accept some concept of rehabilitation, so I don’t think that’s particularly a problem,” Adams said. “He’s now a very respectable governor of the largest state in the United States so I imagine that we, under that circumstance, we would be happy to have him carrying the torch.”" more

Resolved Question: Will the smear campaign against Debra Medina by Chris Matthews of BSNBC backfire?

http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/50051.html Matthews and others are smearing Debra Medina, a surging candidate for Governor of Texas (according to the most recent polls, she is in a dead-heat with Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson for 2nd in the GOP primary and incumbent Rick Perry is unlikely to get the majority he needs to avoid a runoff), because she supports the principles of Jefferson and Madison's Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions of 1798. Unlike incumbent Governor Perry, Medina is serious when she talks about states rights. Medina is not a career politician and has very limited political experience (she was a GOP county chair in the 1990s and was an interim state coordinator for the Campaign for Liberty). Considering that Rick Perry has been pretending to be in favor of states rights (including threatening secession) throughout this campaign (even before Medina's surge), I would think that this kind of smear would be counterproductive in Texas. Although Rick Perry may talk about states rights, Debra Medina actually means it. more

Resolved Question: What do you think about Bill White for Texas Governor?

I watched the debate tonight on PBS, and I have to say he seems the most impressive out of all the candidates. His opponent Farouk Shami seemed a bit far-fetched, but I liked how well the Houston Mayor handled himself. I would like to see him go head-to-head with the Republican pick. more

Voting Question: If the Federal governement is giving money to the states (stimulus) ?

Why are Republicans so angry about that ? Let me explain.... The lion's share of the stimulus dollars are in fact going to states where the majority of the voters are Republicans.(red states) They have Republican Governors, and Republican reps... This is because....those are the states that have all of the agriculture and manufacturing industries...so logic says that they need it most. Those states were hit the hardest, so they deserve the most money. Also.... There was no meeting in Congress where they said....."Alaska must get 8 new airports, and Texas and FL must build high speed rails"....... the way the stimulus works is.... the states submit their own projects, and they are approved or denied under stimulus guidelines. So in essence..... if you don't believe the stimulus is creating enough jobs, or it's a "waste of money".....then wouldn't that be more of an issue of state spending ? The Governor of each state is responsible for the budget, so if the full potential of these dollars are not expressed, then who is really to blame for that ? All states are responsible for oversight and accountability of dollars spent, they are responsible for reporting all of the jobs they have created using only stimulus dollars, and all unused stimulus money is to be returned to the Fed....not "given to another state"...that's just not how budgeting works. Over 1/3 of the stimulus is in the form of tax breaks....and the rest is to subsidize the states own budget deficits and allow them to pay for projects/programs, the leaders of those states feel they need to fund. All of the information on this site is reported by the states themselves. http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/home.aspx more
