Haltom City Texas Questions asked

Resolved Question: Metro Dallas violent crime rates?

I'm contemplating a move from California to metro Dallas soon. I'm still trying to secure a job there and wont move until I have done so. Anyway, I am trying to learn a little more about the area. In researching the latest FBI violent crime stats, these places had the highest per capita violent crime rates (using their per 100000 population) formula: Dallas (895) Balch Springs (875) Forest Hill (697) Addison (679) Everman (661) Fort Worth (656) Ennis (626) Arlington (602) Terrell (512) STATE OF TEXAS (507) Bedford (502) Hurst (496) Haltom City (472) All the other metro Dallas suburbs had much lower violent crime rates. I know large cities like Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington have good and bad areas, but should I avoid the smaller cities on the list? Would you describe any of these communities as generally safe, but just had a bad year (2008) when it comes to violent crime? A safe area is very important to me. Thanks. more

Voting Question: Where are the voting booths in Texas?

My mom needs to find the address for a voting booth (for the presidential campaign) in Texas that's near to Haltom City. I'm not very knowledgeable of these kinds of things involving politics so I don't really know what to Google or anything. (I'm not sure if there's one voting booth or more than one) Please and thank you.@ jd : I clicked on the link and added my mom's information, but when we downloaded the PDF file, it said on the sheet "locations on the back". @ killowen05 : Yes, she is. I need the Tarrant County location, thank you. more

Resolved Question: Personal Protection and the 2nd amendment ... how can anyone be against it!?

Just don't see how anyone can think it's right for the government to remove arms from the people leaving only those who already follow the law without protection. Perhaps when the police develop transportation technology and telepathic senses to know when and where people need help and instantaneously beam themselves there to save the day. In the mean time ... let people protect themselves! BLUE MOUND, Texas — When two gunmen smashed through the glass front door of her suburban Fort Worth home, Kellie Hoehn didn't think twice. The 34-year-old mother of two grabbed a shotgun that had been pointed at her face early Wednesday, starting a struggle that ended with one intruder killed with his own weapon and another in the hospital. "I wasn't going to let them get to my babies," she said, recalling the moment when she pushed up the muzzle of the shotgun, pointing it away from her children's rooms. Although the intruders told her to keep quiet, she screamed for her husband. She told her 12-year-old son, who was awakened by the sound of the shattering glass front door, to get his 5-year-old sister and hide. "It was like a horror movie," her husband, 32-year-old Keith Hoehn, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I thought I was a dead man. We're fighting for our lives." With Kellie Hoehn clinging to the weapon's muzzle, her husband tackled the man who held the shotgun. She knocked the intruder in the head with a jar candle, giving her husband a chance to wrest the shotgun. By then the tussle had spilled out onto the front lawn. Keith Hoehn shot one of the men who had a pistol, police said. Wounded, that man ran away. Then the intruder who initially had the shotgun charged Keith Hoehn. Kellie Hoehn told The Dallas Morning News that she screamed at her husband, "Shoot him, shoot him, shoot him." Her husband fired the shotgun and the man fell to the ground. Then the shot man lunged a second time. "Well, I shot him again, and I guess that was it," Keith Hoehn said. Dakota Scott Benoit, 20, of Richland Hills, was pronounced dead at a hospital. John Garland Pierson, 25, of Haltom City, was in critical condition and in police custody at the hospital. "I am not happy that someone is dead," Kellie Hoehn said. "But I am glad that my family is alive." Investigators say the couple were just defending their family and probably won't be charged. more

Im 19 and have been trying to get a job for years, 3 years to be exact. Resolved Question: Where to find a Texas Tennis Coach?

I'm only a beginner, I go to middle school and want to play tennis because I was inspired by something. I want to play, but I don't know how to. I've watched games and I know the basic things, but I can't seem to bounce the ball correctly and I don't have a good form. I'm only a beginner and I've played one game with my mom, but she doesn't know how to play, so it doesn't really count as a game. I need a tennis coach that'll come somewhere near Haltom City, Texas, but searching with Google didn't work so much for me. I only need basic training until a while, I haven't talked about it with my mom yet, but I'd like a cheap one? Somewhere near $20-$30 (that's what people say?) an hour, that's probably a group practice, right? Well, I don't mind with that, but I just need to improve my skills somehow, I really want to beat someone. more

Resolved Question: How do I know if my ISP is capping my download speeds?

I noticed after I installed my (2WIRE HomePortal 1800HG) router that everything I download, including torrents (in uTorrent 1.7.7 build 8179) is capped at 326 kB/s. On the information page for my SBC Yahoo! Internet Connection I am told that I have upwards of 2 mB/s of bandwidth, and since I am paying for it, I think I should be able to use it. I live in Haltom City, Texas (USA) 76137, if it matters. By the way, I have modded uTorrent's settings (more details if you need them), and my ports are all forwarded for every program I use. I use Norton AntiVirus 2008, and Windows Firewall is completely disabled, as well as Windows Defender. I would be happy to supply any additional information about my computer and networking accessories, if it helps in my search. more

Resolved Question: Is this part of the misconception that illegals pay taxes?

Imagine being this poor woman in California! Schmierer realized she had a problem in February 2005, when she got a statement from the IRS saying she owed $15,813 in back taxes — even though she had not worked since her son was born in 2000. Perhaps even more surprising, the taxes were due from jobs in Texas. Schmierer called the IRS and learned that numerous people were using her Social Security number. Officials said the erroneous balances would be eliminated, but the agency would have to correct the problem again in future years. "They told me they couldn't do anything else," Schmierer said. IRS officials declined to talk about Schmierer's case, citing privacy laws. Schmierer has done a little investigating of her own, combing through tax bills sent to her for names and locations of employers who hired people using her number. She has also obtained more than 200 W-2 and 1099 tax forms that contained her Social Security number but different names. Schmierer provided copies of the records to The Associated Press. People used her Social Security number from Florida to Washington state, at construction sites, fast-food restaurants and even major high-tech companies. Some opened bank accounts using the number. Most of the people worked multiple jobs in the same year, though some remained at the same company for several years. The top wage earner made $39,465, but most reported income of less than $15,000. Though impossible to verify in every case, information gleaned from criminal investigations, tax documents and other sources suggested that most of the users were probably illegal immigrants. Schmierer filed a police report after learning one man had used her information in 2003 at janitorial and landscaping companies near Haltom City, Texas. Investigators found the man, who told officers he had bought a fake Social Security card at a flea market, according to a police report. He was not arrested. Schmierer tracked down other people, finding that her number had been used to get work but not to access her credit card or bank accounts. What started as a hassle turned into a major headache earlier this year when she sought work through a temporary agency that learned her Social Security number had been used by a woman in Texas two years earlier. The agency could not hire Schmierer for more than a month while the situation was clarified. "How do you prove that you are you?" Schmierer said. "It's like you are guilty until proven innocent." While returning from a trip to Mexico with her husband last year, Schmierer was detained for four hours in a Dallas airport by immigration officials. The reason: a woman using her Social Security number was wanted for a felony.Dani, you speak the truth, and imagine how fair is that to the kids who legitimately belong here? To the first woman your husband is a lawbreaker, and you said yourself he does not work, what about all the years he did not pay, I know that he owes for years he worked under the table. Self employment tax is 20% I know you are not paying that, I hope you get audited. As for the other guy, there is plenty of food in Mexico, they need to get jobs and work there and support their familys there. more
