Resolved Question: Why Such A Difference In Directions From Start to Destination & Back?

We are moving with 2 children to Houston Texas in about 2 months while mapping out our route on Mapquest I inadvertently put the destination as Lock Haven, PA and Houston, TX as the starting point, the results I got were great for me, the route went through several major cities, which we would like to do because we are planning on making this trip a 3 or 4 day trip because of the kids and would like to stop overnight in areas where there are things to do. So, I switched them the right way starting at Lock Haven, Pa and ending in Houston, TX and...WOW totally different route...any ideas why? And would it be safe to use the reverse directions, or is there really a reason it is like this? Any help would be appreciated, thanks! more

Resolved Question: Why are mid-eastern states small and all mid-western states huge?

I was looking at a United States map recently and noticed how everything between Missouri, Florida and Rhode Island is small and bunch up together yet from Texas and further to the west the states are huge and there are less of them. Looking at it, it seems like 70% of the states in this country take up less than 50% of the land mass. more

One reads "A special gift for a special occasion" on its packaging and also reads Cameo Classic and says valuable collectors item with the date 1935-1977 (I have another one not in packaging.) 2 read "Israel silver anniversary commemoratives," With a big 25 and the star or David. 3 red "World trade and commerce." with the odd map of earth. One reads "Texas Rangers 150th Anniversary" Dated 1823-1973. One is a coin that has cattle pulling a van with a farmer next to it and on the back has a farmer picking some bowl shape thing up and is circled by stars. One coin has the American Eagle with the American flag behind it that says 31.1 grams. One ingot has the American eagle that says "The American Royal Mint" and has 15 groins of .999 silver, but looks quite golden. Resolved Question: How do i go about reporting illegal aliens in Texas?

there are these scumbags selling cocaine(among other things i assume) out of their apartment here in Austin. i recently found out about him and his brother after my ex admitted where she was getting the crap from. she had lost considerable weight and her moods were as unpredictable as the weather. it soon became obvious she was on "something". we have since split up b/c of her habit, but what really ticks me off is that these guys are not only illegal, but selling out of their apartment right next to a f'ing PLAYGROUND!! literally 20ft from their patio!! ive already contacted local law enforcement, the apt mgmt and US immigration but they dont seem to care. its been 4 months now and nothing has been done! ive watched these guys sell and have visual proof, but STILL nothing. anyone have any phone numbers or direct links you know of? or maybe just "know" somebody? the scumbags address is 1200 Sunrise Rd #1406 Round Rock, TX. try using google's satellite map and see for yourself. it wont pinpoint the actual #1406 unit, but its the one closest to the Mesa Village community playground. can anyone help?THEY ARE SELLING COCAINE NEXT TO A PLAYGROUND!!!!!if you read carefully "gameover" ive already stated i contacted the local law enforcement. think what you want put this is no joke...im not racist at all. - the ex i refer to was in fact HISPANIC!! im just tired of these guys selling drugs next to a damn PLAYGROUND!!! are you really that dumb and ignorant NOT to see how messed up that is?? judging by the way you are acting "Mr Daisy" i'd say you might have a bit of a problem too...easy there "Forest", im not trying to start a race war here. i can understand if someone is just trying to provide for their families and such. but dealing drugs next to this payground is going to stop one way or another. if they wont arrest or deport them then something will happen. im getting very tired of their BS... ive called 1-866-DHS-2-ICE already, as well as contacted the proper local narcotics and law enforcement here in Austin/Round Rock and still nothing(going on 4 months now). the person i spoke with over the phone when i called ICE said all they can do is inform local immigration agents and hand the "matter" over to them. they also said it may take a while to investigate depending on how busy they are and the severity of the matter. im guessing they arent taking this too seriously. all i know is im about to go Charles Bronson on them if nothing is done soon. until then, yes i will keep contacting them and complaining. more

Resolved Question: Racial disparity between blue states vs red states in regards to minority incarceration, your thoughts?

I still haven't found out the answer to this, and I believe it migh make for a good thesis paper, but I still need more input. Racial disparity between blue states vs red states in regards to minority incarceration, your thoughts? http://www.sentencingproject.org/map/map… Red states in general have lower black to white ratio incarceration rate than blue states, the South having the lowest racial disparity yet the biggest black population (Alaska has the best ratio because they really don't have a black population) Idaho is low (4:1) as well yet don’t have a high black population, the highest red state is Utah with 9:1. While on the other hand blue have a larger incarceration disparity yet have a smaller black population than the south. The best region of the blue states is the west coast, with an average of 6:1, Yay California. But on the east coast the average is 8:1, with MN and WI having 9:1 and 10:1, and with these being ratios and these states have a low black population it means that the vast majority of the black population living in those states are incarcerated. NY which has a sizable black population ahs a disparity of 9:1 ratio, DC is even worse, so it doesn't seem to be dedpenant on the population make up. Also small time red states still have better stats than small blue states, Texas beats all powerhous states in this state as well, so it isn't about development or city vs urban. I don't exactly know the why (I have my speculations), this was covered in class, but the teacher did not notice the pattern (or talked about it) till I pointed it out. And she wasn't able to answer why this is so (though I didn't use the term red states vs blue states). So I'm asking you guys, why is the ratio worse in blue states than it is in red states? Red states have more punitive laws, so does a law and order black and white attitude effect such? Is it due to the culture within those states? Religion? economics? Group Cohesion? Racism? Luck of the draw? All constructive answers appreciated more

Resolved Question: Why do southern states have the highest murder rates in America?

I thought southerners cared about "law and order," but even Texas has a murder rate above the national average, according to this map. And the highest rate of any state is Louisiana (DC has a higher rate, but we all know DC isn't a state - it's just a horrible dump). http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/5827/14510744.png Why don't people in the south just crack down on crime and murder, instead of allowing violence to flourish? Why don't southerners try to be more like North Dakotans?Since when is Chicago a state...? And, no. Chicago is a hellhole, but its murder RATE is far lower than southern cities like New Orleans, Birmingham, etc. more

Resolved Question: Border Crossing - Where is Columbia Solidarity International Bridge?

My wife and I will be setting out on December 17 from St. Louis, MO to Monterrey, Mexico. We want to use the Columbia Border Crossing and take the Columbia-Solidarity International Bridge, but for the life of me, I cannot find the Border Crossing or the International Bridge on MapQuest! We will be heading down 35 toward Laredo. Someone posted a map on Wikipedia of the crossing, but when I compared the map to MapQuest some really strange things began to happen. For example, according to the map, Loop 20 west of 35 turns into exactly that, a loop that goes nowhere. But according to the map, it continues south and becomes Mexico 2. So, I purchased the 2010 "Guia Rojo Por las Carreteras de Mexico" and their maps indicate that I should head to a city called Delores in Texas, and that the bridge is right there. But again when I looked on Mapquest for Dolores, I could not find any border crossing or bridge. Please, the last thing I want is to get lost in the dangerous border areas. So, if you know how to get to the International Bridge from 35, please respond. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: help with zip codes please?

ok im trying to order att internet and im really confused. first off, i live in a really wierd neighborhood because the zip codes are so weird. it looks like this http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=6777+sommerall+dr.+77084&sll=29.875127,-95.654826&sspn=0.008429,0.01929&g=6777+Sommerall+Dr,+Houston,+Harris,+Texas+77084&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=6777+Sommerall+Dr,+Houston,+Harris,+Texas+77084&ll=29.876225,-95.656264&spn=0.008429,0.01929&z=16 my apartments are where the (A) is. as you can see, the street is separated by the the highway FM 529(which is just a big road not really a highway at all) but here is the problem. that whole neighborhood(it has a wal-mart, target, food town, 2 gamestops, and a slew of other stores) uses the zip code 77095. only those 3 backstreets that im on (sommerall and smithstone and lakeview haven) use 77084 that whole area back ther is no bigger than a high school(the majority of it is just land). so my dilemma is that when i enter my address whit 77084, i can go to all the way to about the second to last page where they do a credit check and then it says it's unable to process my order online, but when i enter my my zip code as 77095 everything goes fine and i can go all the way to the final steps and everything and pay for my order(i haven't paid yet because this is confusing). so do i go by 77095 or what because they send the installtion kit through the mail and i know zip code is everything. i'm so confused and i don't want to get my info screwed up. oh and my apartments are the only apartments with the name they have in the 77095 or 77084 area codes if that makes a difference more

Resolved Question: Scanner Frequencies for Deer Park Texas? Are they top secret or something?

If Houston, on a map, was like a clock, the suburb Deer Park would be between 3 and 6. This entire area seems to be a black hole. I can find all the frequencies from 6 to 3, but Deer Park is unfindable. It is bizarre. Even other very nearby suburbs like Pasadena have easy to find frequencies. Is it because we are near refineries? Does that make it blacked out by homeland security or something?I see the sites rec9140 has suggested, but I see no frequencies. I have only had my first scanner for one day, so I am pretty overwhelmed here. Thank you for your time. more

Resolved Question: Would you like to see unemployment drop about 4 points in 6-12 months?

and increase US national security at the same time? The time for playing games is over. If we force our government to immediately start tapping the billions of cubic ft of natural gas and yes Drilling For Our Own Oil instead of depending on foreign countries you'd be amazed at how many new jobs would be available! I've worked in the oil/gas fields and it's surprising how quickly they can ramp up when allowed to. Nuclear power plants also but they take a few years to complete. Take a look at this map and one thing that stands out is the oil and natural gas producing states that are suffering. http://cohort11.americanobserver.net/latoyaegwuekwe/multimediafinal.html Just how bad do things have to get before we wake up? "When President Barack Obama announced his FY2010 budget request last week, he also unveiled a tax increase of over $30 billion for US natural gas and oil production investment, which is the most devastating tax proposal in the history of America ’s oil and natural gas industry. Already the second largest revenue stream for the U.S. Treasury, the oil and gas industry is a large employer, tax payer, and revenue stream for Federal, State and Local Governments." http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2201220/posts "Alaska’s Offshore (A Game-Changing Energy Resource): At a time when the American public is crying out for more domestic energy, Alaska has enormous untapped oil and gas potential, especially in its offshore areas. The Chukchi Sea, off Alaska’s northwest coast, offers more resources than any other undeveloped U.S. energy basin, and, according to experts, may be one of the largest untapped oil and gas sources in the entire world. According to very conservative estimates from the federal government, the waters off Alaska’s coasts hold about 27 billion barrels of oil and 132 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. This is more than all the current total proven U.S. oil reserves (i.e. approximately 21 billion barrels). Alaska would have 8th largest oil resources in the world – ahead of Nigeria, Libya, Russia and Norway. This is more than all the current total proven U.S. oil reserves. This is more proven oil reserves than Russia and Mexico process. A recent assessment by the US Geologic Survey concludes that about 30% of the world’s undiscovered natural gas and 13% of its oil are located above the Arctic Circle, with Alaska holding enough oil & natural gas to maintain production for “many years to come." http://consumerenergyalliance.org/calls-to-action/support-development-of-alaskas-offshore-oil-gas-resources/ Natural Gas http://www.theoildrum.com/node/4436 4% may sound optimistic but think about all the small to medium size businesses that would spring up to support this increase in production! Not just for Alaska but Texas, Louisiana, Florida, California, and the list goes on! Then think about the added benefit of to all Americans - Lower Utility Bills! Lower prices at the pump! Lower grocery prices! Wake up folks!!!! And what are the president and congress doing? CAP-N-TRADE ?!?Ok we need a game plan! Ideas, links, who has the best organization for us to join forces with?Virginia B sent me this. Resolved Question: What is it that is located here? An impact crater?

I recently go to researching impact craters and i was just looking at all of them on google maps playing a little game with myself in which i try to find the crater and then i plug in the actual coordinates and see how far off i was. Resolved Question: As if Things Weren't Bad Enough, Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.?

In Moscow, Igor Panarin's Forecasts Are All the Rage; America 'Disintegrates' in 2010'' A polite and cheerful man with a buzz cut, Mr. Panarin insists he does not dislike Americans. But he warns that the outlook for them is dire. "There's a 55-45% chance right now that disintegration will occur," he says. "One could rejoice in that process," he adds, poker-faced. "But if we're talking reasonably, it's not the best scenario -- for Russia." Though Russia would become more powerful on the global stage, he says, its economy would suffer because it currently depends heavily on the dollar and on trade with the U.S. Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control. California will form the nucleus of what he calls "The Californian Republic," and will be part of China or under Chinese influence. Texas will be the heart of "The Texas Republic," a cluster of states that will go to Mexico or fall under Mexican influence. Washington, D.C., and New York will be part of an "Atlantic America" that may join the European Union. Canada will grab a group of Northern states Prof. Panarin calls "The Central North American Republic." Hawaii, he suggests, will be a protectorate of Japan or China, and Alaska will be subsumed into Russia. He based the forecast on classified data supplied to him by FAPSI analysts, he says. He predicts that economic, financial and demographic trends will provoke a political and social crisis in the U.S. When the going gets tough, he says, wealthier states will withhold funds from the federal government and effectively secede from the union. Social unrest up to and including a civil war will follow. The U.S. will then split along ethnic lines, and foreign powers will move in. Interest in his forecast revived this fall when he published an article in Izvestia, one of Russia's biggest national dailies. In it, he reiterated his theory, called U.S. foreign debt "a pyramid scheme," and predicted China and Russia would usurp Washington's role as a global financial regulator. Americans will hope President Barack Obama "can work miracles," he wrote. "But when spring comes, it will be clear that there are no miracles." My question is Do you think this could happen? How does this make you feel if this would occur ? The entire article can be found on the link along with a map of what America will look like in July 2110 http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123051100709638419.html more

Voting Question: advice for leaving my family for 6 months to C-school?

I've done 3 deployments before, now I'm finishing 4 years of shore duty. My two kids, 5 & 3 years old, never knew me going on deployment. I'm going to NS San Diego 32nd St for a 6-month C-school. My family can't come because our house hasn't sold here in Texas, so they're staying here. So far our plans are to get another laptop for my wife, I'm taking mine with me, and we're going to get webcams so when I'm talking to the kids, they can see me too. My wife found some good advice online to get Hershey Kisses, enough for each child to have one on each day that I'm gone. We'll get a map to show them where I'm at also. On my last deployment, my son wasn't born and my daughter (now 5) turned 1 when I returned. So they've never delt with it. Any ideas or advice anybody has would be appreciated.and each of my deployments were 6 months long.like I said, I've done 3 deployments before. I didn't just join, been in for 10 years, just looking for additional ideas from other parents. more
