Open Question: Is anyone a pesonal trainer in Texas?!?

My husband and I live in Alaska. There are not very many personal training opportunities in this state, which is why we have decided to move! With much research we decided on Texas. The cost of living is much lower than Alaska and it seemed to be a good market for personal training. My question is- Does anyone know how much personal trainers start off making at gyms in Texas? We are looking around the Dallas area but are open to any city really. He is certified by NSCA and has a degree in exercise physiology and kinesiology. We are starting the job hunting process and are planning to fly down to get a job ASAP, but we want to make sure the pay is worth it before we waste time..and none of the jobs that are available tell you that info.. Any information will help. Thanks in advance! :)I meant *Personal* Trainer :) more

Open Question: Which US state should I move to?

I'm moving to the US from Scotland ,after university in a few years but I'm not sure where to. Where should I move to, based on: I'd be working as an IT security Specialist, making about $60,000+ per year I'd hate somewhere too hot like Arizona Not somewhere too rural/remote or arid like some places in Texas Somewhere that has true winters like quite cold with a good amount of snow (optional.) I don't mind a lot of rain and snow I'd like to be near a city and finally in a state where there's a lot to do, shopping, camping, etc.. So where would you guys recommend based on what I've said? -Thanks! more

Open Question: Can my fathers mother deny me from picking up my child?

I live in Texas and right now my boyfriend and I are no longer together. We have a little girl together (whom has his last name) and there has been issues reguarding who takes care of my baby. I had recently gone to the police in my city because he was being abusive towards me. The police officers told me that because we were living together for more than a year and we havent gone to court for the child he has just as much right to see my baby as i do. If he has my baby he can deny her from being with me and vise versa. However if he leaves my baby with a relative or a friend then i can go pick her up. Now I had left my baby with my mom. He went to go pick her up and left her at his mothers who lives in another city. But when i went to go pick her up his mother called the cops and the cops from that city said i couldnt take her. I told him what the other PD said and he told me that because its two different cities then its two different scenarios. His mother knows the Cheif of Police in her city and this doesnt sound right to me. I dont know what to do. I had to leave my baby there. Does anyone know if this was right? what should i do next? he has no job. Ive reported his physical abuse towards me and he was stalking me which almost got me fired! more

Open Question: Condemning a house-how to and repercussions?

My Parents house has become a serious health hazard they have to walk sideways through the halls, the central heat and air no longer work, some walls and ceilings have no sheet rock, plumbing has many issues, a wall also has major water damage, and they hoard stuff everywhere even ALL over the backyard. If we ask the city to look at this and it gets condemned, what will the city do legally to them? Can't find Texas law info on this, and we are trying to get them out of this house and its health issues so they can have healthier lives. more

Open Question: Can I evict a tenant who is constantly late on their rent? We have a oral agreement and no written lease.?

My tenant moved in Feb 2010 and has only paid rent on time twice. She was a month and a half late at one point and did get caught up. She is consistently late and I have had to tell her to mow her yard after receiving a letter from the city on two occasions. I actually mowed it once, because she stated it wasn't even tall. We had an agreement that there would not be any smoking in the house, and she is smoking inside the house. I would like to rent the home to someone who will be prompt and more responsible. What are my options to have the tenant to vacate the property? I am located in Texas. Thank you in advance for your help. more

Open Question: How is it that 66% of Americans are against the mosque near ground zero? Are we against freedom of religion?

Are that many of us in our country hateful of the Islam religion so that we take it out on the 95% of Muslims who want nothing to do with terrorism? Could you imagine if this question was asked this way instead....."Would you be against building a church near the site of the Branch compound in Waco, Texas or the Oklahoma City Federal Building?" Both David Koresh and Tim McVeigh were Christian terrorists who believed they were acting on behalf of God....should we take away Christians' right to worship because of some bad apples out there? I just can't believe that 2/3 of Americans are against freedom of religion. Whether the mosque is near ground zero doesn't matter...it is freedom of religion...as long as they pay the taxes and the fee for building the place. If it was 3 blocks farther away people would still be against it, or whether it was 6 blocks away people would still be against it....has Fox News and the right wing been effective at scaring people into believing that every Muslim wants to kill them in their sleep? For those who are against it being so close to the ground zero site...how far would it have to be to please you? Since you set the rules in America...how far? 3 more blocks? 8 more blocks? How many blocks is far enough until freedom of religion goes into effect? more

Open Question: Five of the top 10 safest cities in the US are largely populated by immigrants?

So why are Republicans pushing to stop or deport as many immigrants as they can? In the immigration debate, they constantly scream that we need to close the borders. Is the immigration crackdown that Republicans push really about keeping crime down? The source is included in the article. ===================== Five Immigrant Cities on List of Top Ten Safest Cities Recently, an independent study listed the top ten safest cities in the United States based on FBI crime statistics in areas with populations over 500,000. Half of the cities that made the list are cities "largely populated by immigrants," and two are border cities. It turns out that if you are looking for a big city low on crime and high on probability of awesome food you might want to consider living in El Paso, Texas; New York, New York; San Jose, California; San Diego, California; or Los Angeles, California. Open Question: Which Obama vacation doesn't fit - 2wks Spanish villa, 10 days in Martha Vineyard or weekend at Gulf of Mexico?

Following Michelle Obama's Spanish vacation renting all 60 rooms at a Luxury Spanish Villa with her youngest daughter & 40 of Michelle's closest friends and before the whole family 10 day get away to Martha Vineyard in Massachusetts the advisers to Obama got him to squeeze in a 2 day weekend getaway in Panama City, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico just to counter the ELITIST IMAGE there many, many vacations to most luxurious spots the taxpayers money can get them to on Air Force 1 & 2. I guess they needed a 2 day weekend getaway to help them rest up from all that luxurious vacationing they have been doing this summer. In the past 18 months the Obama has taken 8 vacations - HOW MANY HAVE YOU TAKEN? ARE THE OBAMAS SLUMMING IT DOWN ON THE GULF OF MEXICO ON A TWO DAY WEEKEND GETAWAY? Oh, and those who want to attack Bush to try and defend the elitist vacationing of the Obama's - Bush in 8 years took 77 trips home to his ranch in Crawford - and stayed in his 1,300 sq ft home and cut brush. Oh and the house was fully wired and connected to allow him to do everything he could do at the White House. The second place he spent most of his "vacation" time was at Camp David mostly on weekends and again Camp David the presidential getaway is wired up like the White House allowing him to do everything he needed to from there. Congress left on vacation Aug 2001 and when George W. Bush decided to spend most of August at his ranch in Texas instead of the White House the Press had a conniption criticizing Bush. So far no such thing from the press even in light of the recession, gulf spill and Michelle's Spanish luxury get away w/ 40 best friends. http://theblacksphere.net/obamas-true-black-royalty/ more

Open Question: Is Mexico annexing the U.S. through their so-called “anchor babies?

The widely known but always down-played Reconquista Movement is alive and well and coming to a town near you. Mexico is taking much of this country through very aggressive illegal immigration, as well as an equally aggressive birth rate. The Pew Hispanic Center just announced the results of a recent study which found that of the 4.3 million babies born in the U.S., during 2008, about 340,000 were born to illegal aliens. The study found that children born to illegal aliens account for 7 percent of the total population of people under the age of 18, or 5.1 million children. 79 percent of those children were born in the United States, automatically making them U.S. citizens. The goal of the Reconquista Movement was once designed to takeover the southwestern border states of California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. However, through the exploitation of the 14th Amendment, illegal aliens are now building colonies in every state of the union. The following statistics provided by the U.S. Census Bureau are staggering and frightening: -In 2005, Latinos accounted for half of the U.S. population growth. -The total U.S. population more than doubled from 131.7 million in 1940 to 290.8 million in 2003, the Latino population increased nearly 30 times in that same period. In 1940, the Latino population within the U.S. was 1.4 million, by 2003 it had swelled to 40 million. -Between 2000-2003, the Latino population within the U.S. grew at a rate of 13 percent, while the U.S. non-Latino population grew at a rate of only 0.8 percent during the same period. -Recently, the ethnocentric Latino group known as La Raza proudly reported on their website that 85 percent of the Latino population under 18 were born inside the United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 80 percent of our Latino population is age 44 or younger, which means that the vast majority of Latinos in the U.S. are still of child-bearing age. With the unchecked illegal immigration crisis, this country will become another Latin American nation in our lifetime. What will this mean to you?...The disappearance of the English language, the destruction of our traditional American culture, the over-population of our cities, epidemics of once-thought eradicated diseases, crushing poverty, and soaring crime. Considering the fact that illegal aliens already account for 29 percent of this nation's prison population, we can expect that prison building will become the new growth industry. Public schools will only teach English as a second language, and municipal services will be stretched beyond their limits. But the real problem will be that our politics will be controlled by those whose loyalties actually lie with another nation. Once our political system becomes dominated by illegal aliens and their offspring, our resources will no longer be our own, but will be used only to benefit Mexico. If an effort is not made to protect our border with Mexico and we do not soon adopt a sensible immigration policy--the United States as we know it will cease to exist in the near future. http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-35821-Immigration-Reform-Examiner~y2010m8d12-Is-Mexico-annexing-the-US-through-their-socalled-anchor-babies more

Open Question: Can anyone review my essay plz?

Hi all! This is my essay for University of Texas admission. The prompt is to write about someone who has influenced your life. I really want to get i so if anyone could review this essay and offer constructive criticism, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance! My eyes stared wide as the buildings drew closer and closer, then started whizzing by at a hundred miles per hour. And then, there was touchdown, and the beginning of my new life in the city of Hong Kong. That first flight between my old home in India and my new one in Hong Kong is one of my earliest memories. My father had worked hard to come here so that he could provide a better life for his family. Ever since those early years my parents had shown me the value of family and of excelling in every endeavor I undertook. I soon began attending school in Hong Kong. I was enormously excited for my first day of school in a new city, but when I got there, my hopes quickly faded. I realized that not only did I look different from all my classmates; I did not even speak the same language as many of them! I also learned that my classmates were leaps and bounds ahead of me in terms of academics, but I was determined to catch up with them and fit in as quickly as possible. Every day after school, I would sit with my mom and learn everything that my classmates had already been taught. In just six weeks, I learned how to read, write, and do basic arithmetic, and I went form being an underdog to being one of the best students I the class! Those long hours of studying also taught me the values of patience, hard work, and perseverance. Perhaps more importantly, as I looked proudly at my report card, I saw the tangible benefits those values can have. While I was succeeding in the classroom, my father was hard at work looking for a still better life for his family. Remaining true to his values of excellence and advancement, my father moved again, this time to the United States. I was again thrust into a new school, but to my surprise, what I had learned in Hong Kong paid off, and this time I was the one who was leaps and bounds ahead of my classmates! At around the same time, my mom decided to pursue her own dream of becoming an engineer, and she went back to college to get her second masters degree. By doing this, my mom not only taught, but showed me the value of a good education, and of pursuing your dreams. Because she would no longer be at home with me after school, my mom also indirectly taught me how to be self-reliant and independent. I learned how to make dinner or myself, how to take care of my little sister, and how to eschew the TV in favor of a textbook so that I could study for my next exam. My parents have been without a doubt the most influential people in my life. In the ugliest of situations - in new schools and new countries, my parents have taught me valuable lessons through their own actions that I will never forget. more

Open Question: What do New Yorkers think of the Freedom Tower?

Since I live in Texas, I was wondering what the citizens of New York City thought of the "Freedom Tower" project (the "new" World Trade Center and complex). My view is that it is ugly, and it does nothing to honor the memories of those who perished on 9/11. We said that we would "never forget", but if the Freedom Tower is built, we ARE forgetting. The Twin Towers should be rebuilt, either as they were, or as the "Twin Towers 2" design. Now, I've heard that the Freedom Tower has gone over like a lead balloon with most New Yorkers, but I want a real New Yorker's opinion. Please answer this only if you live within the five boroughs of New York City. more

Open Question: Road Trip ideas from Austin Texas?/Texas Road trip?

New to Texas and I'm looking for an interesting road trip from Austin, up to a 6-7 hour drive in any direction. I enjoy the outdoors (camping, hiking etc) as well as enjoying large cities, preferably small towns though (looking for things off of the beaten path), I'm really open to just about any suggestions. Me and the boyfriend are in our mid-twenties so we also enjoy having at least one "party" night on any vacation. I'm being vague for a reason, I want to see a variety of things while in Texas and I'm very laid back and eclectic. Voting Question: Is living in metropolitan Denver right for me?

Here are some questions of concern I have for serious relocation consideration - please as much first hand or trust worthy info as posible 1/ I hear the Denver people are fake, snobby, close minded, ignorant, cowboy mentality - is there much truth to any of this? 2/ One guy online said the restaurant food is "mediocre at best", I suppose this is completely weed wack? 3/ I expect to live in or near the southern part of Denver (low crime). My question is once I get outside the Denver city borders (as of course I can not hibernate in one city) - is it pretty dull as far as appearance - restaurants, shopping, businesses, etc... for the exception of a few dull looking strip malls. South Aurora and Lakewood (major suburban cities), and Centennial (a tiny but seemingly nice looking town) look decent online - are they and how about outside Denver city borders in general? Well the Mesa/Chandler/Gilbert area in Arizona may just be too hot for comfort, being formally from Michigan, I am considering the Denver area instead, possibly Plano/Carrollton Texas. Although the above are my current finalists, below were my main criteria: 1/ Commercial dense (shops, restaurants, businesses, etc.) 2/ Nice looking metropolitan 3/ Relatively low violent crime (not crime infested eg. Phoenix) 4/ Much areas with housing under 40 years 5/ Nice looking housing (not Oregon or Washington cheap look all wood housing) 6/ Away from the coast, west coast, and major flooding Thanks! more

Resolved Question: complaint letter to land lord?

August 10th 2010 Regarding APT. # **** ********* & ********** ******** Denver City Texas Dear Mr. & Mrs. 'landlord': In October of 2009 I notified Mrs. 'landlord' of water slightly seeping in around the grout of the downstairs fire place and surounding tile, that was causing the grouting to come loose in some areas, which I showed to Mrs. 'landlord' outside. ( I showed her some of the peices of grout that had fallen off of the fire place area.) I was told by Mrs. 'landlord' that it shouldnt really be a problem. In June of 2010 I notified Mr. 'landlord' of a suspected roof/wall leak from the same wall but in the upstairs of the unit. This leak is causing damage to the up stairs master bedroom. Mr. 'landlord' came inside and looked at the damp carpets from which water was draining from the wall into the carpet and said he didnt think it was anything that bad. Since then the area on the wall of the bedroom has started growing mold, and also the paint is bubbling from water behind it in some areas on the wall. We have tried to clean the damp area, with lysol type cleaners ( to reduce the mold growth) and use a wet/dry vac to keep it as dry as possible, but the water damage is beyond what "cleaning" can handle. The carpet is growing mold and so is the wall. The mold also started growing on our bed and box spring which was about a foot away from the leaking wall. Everytime it rains the leaking and mold damage becomes worse. We are sending this letter to make sure we are protected when we do move from this unit. We want to make sure it is proven that we have notified you both of the damage caused by non repairs to this unit that we cannot control. We have documented the water leaking and the damage from mold with pictures and videos since Mr. 'landlord' came to see it in June of 2010. Becuase of the above mentioned complaints we have decided to give our notice to move out, and will be vacating the unit on September 30th of 2010. We have even had to seek medical help due to mold related symptoms and our property in that room is damaged from mold spores and actual mold growth, we are not worried about those things and just wish to leave the unit so perhaps it can then be finally repaired. Also we know in our lease that we are supposed to pay for a carpet cleaning services apon our moving out of the unit, but under the circumstances we do not feel we should have to pay to clean water and mold damaged carpets from the roof leaking. We will clean the rest of the unit to the condition it was in when we moved in. If we can work out a way to not be bound to that part of our lease for carpet cleaning we would appreciate that greatly. Sincerely, ***** and ******* ***********just looking for a proof reading or any advice or tips for this letter to our landlord about non repairs and our moving out of the apt. We are a young family with two toddlers. We are on a month to month lease starting at the beginning of this year. We have lived here for almost 2 years on a regular leasing agreement of several months. We have never had any real issues with our landlord. Other than many non repaired complaints on the unit, which we could live with or repair ourselves up until now. ( On a side note, not realted, we did have a verbal agreement with the LL to allow pets even though the lease states otherwise. We have a cat. ) Thanks!I cant believe some of the negative comments, stating that I choose to live in a moldy apt. We live in a town of less than 3000 people, this is the only apt complex, the next nearest town is over an hour away. My husbands job is what keeps our family stuck here. We couldnt just pick up and move. Saying that I am alright with living in this appartment is an assumption that is wrong. We finnacially have our hands tied due to where we live and where we work. Lysol does kill mold and mold spores. I have done my research. Bleach is not an option here ( would have ruined the burgundy carpet and given a smell to the drywall after the fact. ) more

Resolved Question: Payoff everything in 5 years or continue to build real estate portfolio?

My husband and I are at a financial crossroads in our lives. I recently finished my medical residency, he is about to get his MBA in two weeks. I ran a "debt snowball" calculator adjusted for my new attending physician earnings and we'll payoff our debts (primary home mortgage, mortgages for 3 investment properties, a credit card and small student loan) in 5 years. This doesn't include the increase in salary that my husband will hopefully receive, so complete payoff may come sooner than 5 years. We would also save tons in interest saved from early pay off. On the other hand, we also set the goal of building a real estate property company, eventually transitioning from residential rental to medical commercial rental properties. In aid of this goal, we could capitalize on the weak housing market and continue to purchase residential rental property. This would make us lots of money because our major South Texas city has inexpensive housing that is now even cheaper in this depressed market, but will undoubtedly be worth considerable more in the next five years or so. My husband and I have discussed this at length, we've gone back and forth. Both routes are very attractive. So my question is this-- If you were in a similar position, would you just go into "payoff mode" and erase your debt in 5 years or would you continue to build real estate holdings?Lavista-- Totally missed the point. First of all, my degree is worth more than paper. To me and most any country in the world, it gives me license to do what I've always wanted to do which is heal people. Additionally, I try to make sure that I'm not caught up by the superficial world (although I admit that this is a constant conscious thing I struggle with) My husband and I live in a neighborhood where the average salary is 1/3 of what our yearly salary is, my car is 10 years old, I still wear clothes that I've had since middle school, we seldom shop for any consumer goods and in general try to be good stewards of the earth's resources. Having said this, I do like to be stable. I like knowing that come what may, I will be able to provide for myself and my family. There is nothing superficial or wrong about this desire especially since I donate more in time and money than the average US citizen. Thanks for the link, though. I'll check it out. -M more

Resolved Question: Are you really all that fond of New Yorkers?

Do you honestly care where they put their houses of worship, or what religions they allow to do business where they choose to allow it? Aside from an occasional Broadway musical, Greenwich Village in the early 1960s and a few rides on the Statin Island Ferry, I've never thought much of NYC nor of the people who live there. Seems to me those people have more in common with Londoners than they have with the rest of America. The city is a filthy, rotting, stinking hell hole. How is it anyone outside NY comes to think something there is a shrine because some buildings and people got destroyed by someone? .Do you feel more kinship with New Yorkers than you do, say, with Australians? New Zealanders? Brazilians? Gujaratis? Is the Twin Towers tragedy a greater tragedy than it would have been if Montreal had been destroyed? Isn't the reality that you'd have gladly given NYC away [if you didn't live there] to anyone who wanted it before 9/11? Everyone in the US used to whine about what a lot of grubs lived there. Did martyrdom of a couple of thousand, three thousand New Yorkers make saints of them? How'd you feel when the US government wiped out all those people outside Waco, Texas? Did you feel any kinship for them? Would you be offended it a government office was built within sight of the ruins?Anne: Nor do I. Thanks for the reply. Jimmy and the lady from NY: Thanks for the replies. I can understand how a New Yorker would have different ideas about the issue, NY lady, though you didn't say. I appreciate the fact you're from there. more

I would like to go to college to triple major in journalism, broadcasting, and history. Then I would like to become a sports broadcaster or sports journalist (preferably for hockey, but I don't care). I know it's best to go to college in a big metropolitan city that is pretty sports oriented if I want to one-day work in sports, that's why Pittsburgh is the top city in my list. Counting my grades, SAT scores (when they improve), extracurricular activities, experience, etc, do you think I can get in to any of these Universities? ______________________________________… My grades during my freshman year were: Comprehensive English 9 – 86 German I – 80 Physical Education 9 – 87 Health Education – 76 Family & Consumer Science 9 – 86 Algebra I – 79 Chorus – 90 General Biology – 82 U.S. History I – 92 My grades during my sophomore year were: Career Skills for the Future – 94 Desktop Publishing – 93 Comprehensive English 10 – 84 German II – 73 Journalism I – 96 Physical Education – 94 Health Education – 87 Family & Consumer Science 10 – 85 Geometry – 82 Chorus – 95 Physical Science – 79 U.S. History II Honors – 76 My final average grades during junior year (this year) were: Health Education 11 – 97 Physical Education 11 – 89 Computer Projects A – 98 Crafts – 91 Economics – 94 Comprehensive English 11 – 85 Environmental Science – 83 Lifestyles for the Future – 94 Global Studies – 95 Algebra II - 80 Journalism II – 96 --------------------------------------… Class Rank: 157/317 Overall Average: 87.2933 Overall GPA: 3.1489 --------------------------------------… Total SAT Scores: SAT Reading Scores – 410 SAT Math Scores – 450 SAT Writing Scores – 420 SAT Total Score – 1280 (I’m going to be studying and practicing a lot this Summer and I’m going to retake them in the Fall) (I'm also taking the ACT this fall too.) ______________________________________… The Classes I Will Be Taking Next Year As A Senior Are… Comprehensive English 12, General Chemistry, American Society Honors, Trigonometry, Journalism III, and any more electives that I choose. ______________________________________… I used to volunteer at an after school day care for kids 8th grade and down. Next year I might be involved in Youth Group. I am also a sports reporter for my high school’s newspaper, The Rocket Star and I have my own sports column called Player of the Month. I have been chosen to be the Sports Editor for my senior year (next year). Resolved Question: mother seperating children in two different states?

I have 2 sons with my ex we are not married. She left the state of texas the first time and took my kids with out warrant or notice. After a year i relocated cause we reconciled. I moved to PA were I found out the day I got there that she doesn't want a relationship with me she just wanted me to bring the furniture. I had to relocate back to texas. With out my sons again. I moved back north to jersey city to be 2 hours a way from my sons. I had no cooperation when it came to visitation due to her being in a new relationship. My oldest son took it really hard and began to fail in in school during his 3rd grade. The mom immediately gave him to me to make him happy and for me to raise him up to be a good man. She kept the baby of course. I asked for my other son as well which she refused on numerous occasions. I had to relocate back to texas and left the other son with her in Pa and one with me in texas. 4 years later our youngest son started school and failed kindergarten and she couldn't control or discipline him so she had him come stay with me and his older brother. He has been living in texas for 3 -4 years now. Im married and have 2 other kids now and I have all 4 in one household with my wife. We agreed that every summer she would get the kids and she would send 100 dollars every two weeks which she didn't stick too. But I still aided her in getting the kids to her every summer even driving them the whole distance from texas to new jersey. Well summer of 2010 she finally pays for there full round trip tickets. The day before they arrive i get a text stating that she will not be sending me back the little one and Im only getting the oldest one. I have not heard from our youngest child or her in the last 3 days since the oldest has arrived. Am i considered the custodial parent and can she be arrest for kidnapping a child when they reside in another state with an established family for the last 4 years of his life he is 9 years old by the way. more
