is there anyone else out there that likes the 204? I live in texas and i use it for everything its the only gun i will ever need here i have taken everything from squirels to free range elk that have escaped the high fence. I am very fortunate to be able to have more land than i can even hunt we do it all from calling coyotes, fox, bobcat, hog huntin with dogs, deer huntin of course thats wat i got everybody rilled up about lol axis on free range in sonora which its a lot of fun we shoot at least a hundred for meat for the needy then who knows how many white tail does for the local high fences around where i live to meet the biologists standards so you could probaly say i shoot a little more than the average person but wat im gettin at is the 204 is a 223 necked down to a 20 cal bullet why do people think they have to have at least 27 cal to take most of the animals i just mentioned? (i am not tryin to get the hunters rilled up by no means) the 204 is one of the flattest shootin rounds why would hunters not want that? and who else agrees with me?I have a few 204s but my favorite has a shilins barrel, howa action, alluminum bedded free float hogue stock with timney trigger. dead on @ 200 drops 3" at 300 I know where it shoots and im very comfortable with it its my main pick-up gun and go to gun really works well for me thats actually the gun in my profile picture moreVoting Question: Free hog hunting in Texas?

I live in Texas and was out hunting this afternoon and I encountered a hog. I have seen feral hogs out there before and was not surprised to see one. But this one actually charged at me. It was not like a regular wild hog I have ever seen. It actually looked like t had the snout of a wart hog. Does anyone know of a god website with pictures so I can look and see if I can determine what kind of hog this was?I thought Javellina, but aren't they mostly in South Texas? I live sort of Central Eastern Texas. (Half way between Dallas and Houston on I-45.) moreResolved Question: Wheres the best place to do a Texas hog hunt near Houston.?

My buddy lives in Texas and clains to hunt them with a .22 air rifle, like they do on some videos made by Gamo. I don't believe he actually has been hunting for feral hogs before. I have a 38 special by Comanche (cheap Argentine revolver with 3" barrel) for concealed carry in PA. How can I get this to Texas? Will Texas recognize my permit, as a visitor? If not, should I pick up some cheap rifle in order to finish off the hog when it attacks us? I'm thinking a 22 WMR might be enough and possible to find a used one for about $150. Since the hog is a varmint, and on private property, I assume I don't need a license. All you Texas hog hunters, please advise. Thanks. moreResolved Question: is there a place to hunt wild hogs for free in texas?
i was wondering if there is a place to hunt wild hogs for free in texas preferably near lubbock but i could drive a couple of hours. i just want to kill them as they are pests moreResolved Question: Do Blue Lacys make good pets?
Most of the time, no. Lacys are working dogs. They were created to work aggressive feral hogs in the Texas Hill Country. Though they are now used for hog hunting, herding cattle, trailing wounded game and running trap lines, properly bred Blue Lacys (and Red Lacys and Tri Lacys, the blues are just more popular) are very driven dogs with a high energy level and tenacious personality. But there is so much misinformation about Lacy Dogs on the Internet. When they became the State Dog of Texas, a lot of people rushed to cash in on their good looks and unique status. These breeders will sell them as pets to unsuspecting new owners because they make good money doing it. Some are greedy, other are ignorant and have been duped into believing these dogs will do OK in suburbia. But I've heard many horror stories, including my own, about people wanting a pet but getting a working dog that didn't fit their lifestyle. What do you think? Do you have a pet Lacy? What has been your experience? If not, what have you heard about the breed? moreResolved Question: hunting leases? can you help me?

And i really only want it to be me and my dad out there with no other guys hunting it.. Where can i find what i am looking for? moreVoting Question: Hunting whitetail deer with an AK-47?
My new Bulgarian AK-47 did better than I thought and it exceeded my expectations in accuracy. The AK-47 shoots the 7.62 x 39mm round and there is hunting soft point ammo available for hunting purposes. It will kill deer and hogs efficiently. Hunters have successfully harvested deer with scoped SKS rifles. I purchased a scope mount with picatinny rails for my AK-47, I can't wait to go to the range and mount my scope on it and sighting it in at 100 yards. I am purchasing a box of Federal Premium's Vital Shok 7.62 x 39mm 123 grain Nosler partition round for hunting. I can't wait to go deer hunting with it this coming deer season! By the way, I live in Texas and we Texans can hunt deer with AK-47's. What do you think? Would you hunt deer with an AK-47 too? moreResolved Question: Hunting near colorado springs?

I am looking to buy just one rifle, to do just about everything. I have family that hunt Elk, Deer, and Mt. Sheep in Colorado. I live in Texas, so Deer and Ferel Hogs are on the list. Lastly, at some point in my life i'd like to take a Moose, Bear, Caribou, and some African game (give i have the money to ever go). THANKS moreResolved Question: Hunting in Texas Public Land, has anyone had success hunting in these properties?
I wanted to know if anyone had hunted deer or hog on the Texas public land properties and in the particular property. moreResolved Question: Question for hunters.........?
My 16 year old son made his first kill hunting. He shot a feral hog and was thrilled. The shot obviously didn't flatten him - the pig ran about 30 yards before it died. He also shot an armadillo and has been feeling extreme remorse because he thinks both suffered before they died. This trip was emotional because he's never killed anything before. We cooked some of the pig on the BBQ pit and he ate it which made him feel better and but he's been very upset about the armadillo - he said he won't ever shoot anything again just to kill it which is good but he can't seem to get the image of the armadillo struggling before it died out of his mind. Any of you hunters out there got advice I can give him to make him feel a bit better? I told him a coyote or bobcat would come eat it (we live in Texas) so it wouldn't go to waste. Thanks! moreVoting Question: whats the best way to find a good deer hunting lease? in south central texas. I'm having a hard time ?

I'm looking to buy a all around rifle. I live in Houston,Tx so It will be used mostly for target practice and a little hunting in east Texas. I was looking at the Remington 700 30-06 or Remington 700 308 light tactical rifle. I want something that's comfortable at the range but also able to drop a deer, wild hog, coyotes, etc. I don't plan on hunting anything larger than a deer, but if I get in a situation were a bear confronts me I want a gun and caliber that I can trust to get me home safe . moreResolved Question: are these good guns ?
I want to get a Remington 870 express 20 ga. shotgun. I want to know if I should get the 26" or 28" barrel for get basic skeet shooting and maybe a little water fowl hunting. Also what kind of loads should i get. I know Remington is trustworthy brand so i feel like it would be a good gun, if you have one please give me your feedback. Also i want to get a Mossberg 100 ATR scope combo rifle in .243, because it is fairly lite and the ammo isn't that expensive. would this be a good gun to hunt whitetails, bobcats, and hogs in south east texas. If you have either of these guns or have shot one please feel free to leave input or any ammo recomendations.i have also considered a .270 but i am 14 so recoil is an issue that is why i want the 20 guage moreResolved Question: Which grain is the best to use?
I own a Mossber 4x4 7mm rem. mag. I am hunting everything in Texas from white tail to mule deer to hogs. Most of my shots will be in the range of 200-300 yards. I have heard that the heavier grain will be a little overkill on a 100-200 yard shot. I am just wondering what grain will drop the animal the best but not destroy more meat than needed. moreResolved Question: Few Questions about Hog Hunting.?

I am planning to go hunting into the national forest here in Texas, it is close to where I live. My primary hunting gun is my 7.62 x 54mm Mosin Nagant rifle and my second gun will be a Colt 1911 .45 acp with the 5 inch barrel. I know that the Russian 7.62 x 54mm rifle will definitely beat the snot out of the hogs, but I would like to know how does the .45 acp perform against wild hogs. My 1911 is my back up firearm. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Is my Uncle right or wrong? I am confused.?
I am 9years old. I will be spending the holidays on my uncles ranch in texas. We live in the city, outskirts area in a sub division. My uncle has promised to take me hunting for deer, coyotes and wild hogs. He sent me a bb gun in the mail and 5000 bbs. He told me I should shoot at birds to hone my skils at shooting at moving objects. He said this will get me use to a real gun and i will know what it is like to take one animal down. Do you think this will really help me with my shootin and hunting skils. I am real excited. moreResolved Question: I am looking for a good tracking dog.
I take many novices as well as youth out hunting (for free) a lot throughout the year. I do spend time with them teaching them shot placement and marksmanship prior to the hunt but unfortunately not all shots are well placed resulting in wounding an animal. I HATE wounding animals. That is where the tracking dog would come in. I am good at tracking myself but I am limited to sight tracking. I also have two children that would spend time with the dog. I live in East Texas and would mainly be tracking wounded hogs and deer as well as some small game. Any suggestions? moreResolved Question: Starting a game ranch?
I know some of you guys on here are guides or owners of hunting/wildlife businesses. In the next few years, I would like to start a small-scale exotic game ranch here in Texas. 100 acres or so of high-fenced land, and I'd want to have hogs and a couple of species of deer (fallow and axis, most likely). I'd probably put up a few trailers or build some bungalows, too. Any pointers with regard to financing this? Any pointers in general? Thanks. moreResolved Question: What are the requirements for hunting in Sam Houston National Forest, Texas....?
What are the requirements for hunting in Sam Houston National Forest? I know that you have to have an anual hunting permit, which I belive can be covered by buying an anual public hunting land permit (please correct me if I'm wrong). I know that you have to have a licence for whatever it is that you are hunting (if required). One of the things that confuses me is the requirement for wearing hunters orange...I've read that you are required to wear hunters orange no matter what you are hunting. I've also read that you are only required to wear hunters orange if you are deer hunting (you have to wear "x" amount of square inches of hunters orange), so I am confused. Does anyone know the true regualations. I don't deer hunt in these parts....I duck hunt on lake conroe (which backs up to the national forest) and am interested in doing some squirrel hunting in the national forrest (hog too if I come across one). I don't want any trouble with game wardens, so please help me clarify the rules. moreResolved Question: .30-.30 hog hunting?

Me and my buddies hunt nuisance hogs here in Texas and cross breed hounds and bulldogs for hunting the hogs and someone said it was wrong. But every puppy we get from it are always spoken for and end up in good homes where they are treated well. Whats so wrong with that?We arent using random dogs, we use male pit's with a female catahoula and a female black mouth cur. And im not a big fan of the blue lacy.
