Resolved Question: Scratch Off Game Strategies?

First, all lotteries are guaranteed money loser over the long run, medium run and even over reasonable short runs, that much is a given but it does appear that unlike the lucky number astrology stuff of the draw lotteries, there's some actual possibilities for strategizing with scratch off games so I was wondering what strategies would work best. Unlike the odds of a draw lottery, the odds of scratch off games change as tickets are sold. Lottery authorities often publish the number of tickets printed, the number of prizes in each category printed and the number of prizes in each category claimed to date on a daily basis, Texas does so in the form of a CSV file for download. They obviously don't have a way of collecting the number of sales to date as the tickets are bearer instruments and not sold through a computer terminal but a reasonable estimate of the number of tickets sold and hence the number of tickets remaining by using the total number of prizes claimed versus the total number of prizes printed as the ratio of tickets sold. This means that scratch off games can be timed, with tickets purchased when the odds are in your favor or at least less against you. But what do you decide upon, expectations? (That's when the probability of each prize level is multiplied with the value of the prize and then summed up over all the prizes and is a common Engineering technique for estimating returns on investments). The problem with expectations is that they require a lot of statistically independent chances before they average out if the probabilities are low hence you would literally have to play millions of dollars before the winnings play out as expected. Do you look for games with more prizes? more low value prizes? more high value prizes? underclaimed high value prizes? Probabilities of winning at least one prize of a certain value or higher? Using the ratio of prizes claimed to prizes printed to estimate the number of tickets sold would be able to detect if given prize categories had been under claimed or over claimed when compared to the mean and the higher value prizes would show the most dramatic variation in odds. For example, the "Super Set For Life" game in Texas is currently 89% sold based on the ratio of prizes claimed versus prizes printed but only 3 out the 4 top prizes have been claimed which equates to 75% of that prize category. Another interesting aspect of that game is that if you took the full value of the top prize which is $500,000 a year for 15 years or 7.5 million, then the expectations show a $1.01 return on $1.00 invested. Of course, the prize is actually an annuity probably worth only 63% of the total advertised value which equates with a $0.85 return on the dollar but this is much better then the original $0.68 on the dollar expectation when the game was first printed. This would seem to indicate that if you could corral all the remaining unsold tickets together and just buy them one at a time until you've won the big prize hopefully by about the half way point, you might make money. Of course, you would have to buy 724,059 tickets before being 95% certain of obtaining that last 7.5 million dollar top prize but you would have a 50/50 chance at 381,084 tickets which would be closer to the median of what you would have to buy. Of course, the top prize alone would not meet the 7.6 million dollar median that you would expect to require to obtain the top prize but together with all the smaller prizes, perhaps. Mind you, your scratching arm would be very very tired. On the Internet, there seems to be a lot of people espousing attempting to exploit manufacturing processes such as purchasing tickets at the end of the roll or changing rolls once a certain amount of prizes has been won. The former seems somewhat suspect since it's nothing for a computer to randomize the prize placement throughout a typical roll of 50 or 25 tickets at the point of printing but the latter is interesting since there is a guarantee of minimum prize amount per roll that's published to assure retailers they are not getting rolls completely devoid of prizes and it's likely that this would be achieved by evenly dividing low tiered prizes between the rolls and then randomizing their positions within the roll. Having said that, since I have scanned images of my winning tickets, I can see that my winning tickets have all been in the first quarter or the last quarter of a roll and none of them has been in the middle half but then I can hardly afford enough tickets to have a statistically relevant sample. Maybe if you have sufficient records to determine where in the roll your winning tickets were, you could email them to me so that we could get a reasonably relevant sample (I'd only be interested in Texas games for the time being). So what strategies do you think might marginally improve your odds of winning? Aside from not playing at all.Duh, I said these were astronomical odds and improving them marginally still leaves them astronomical. I just wanted to hear some strategies that people use. It's somewhat simple minded to just be saying that lotteries are bad odds, most gambling is and that's a given. more

Voting Question: Proofread research paper please? Ten points!?

These are my first 4 paragraphs. Thanks! The Beauty and Grace of Rock City Planet Earth is full of many marvelous, majestic landscapes. Rock City, located in the Chattanooga area of Tennessee, is a landscape that has a lot to boast for. Located on a breathtaking mountain, Rock City has astonishing views and breathtaking scenery. However beautiful, the landscape is not the only detail Rock City has to boast for. A great place to explore and have fun, this tourist attraction is also brimming over with centuries full of history. It was founded by a couple in the early nineteenth century. They contributed to the most popular attractions in Rock City and helped create it into what it is today. Its rich history, however, begins before this. Rather, it starts way back when few people even inhibited Rock City. According to the earliest known history of Rock City, Native Americans were the first to settle in this area, later to be followed by visiting missionaries. Later, in the 1800’s, Rock City became a battleground when a Civil War was briefly fought on this location. The history of Rock City, deep and thrilling, is an interesting part of its culture. Long before it was a tourist attraction, Rock City was the home to Native Americans. Most historians believe that primarily the Creek and Cherokee tribes inhabited this area. Matter of fact, a popular Cherokee chief, John Ross, lived in this area in the 1800’s. He became chief to the Cherokee Nation in 1827. Impressively, when the Indian Removal Bill was passed a few years later, Ross’s fight against Georgia’s land lottery begin the first of many political battles. Unfortunately, he still had to walk the Trail of Tears with his people. Much later, in 1863, the Battle of Lookout Mountain during the Civil War occurred in this area. Ulysses S. Grant, the Union commander, ordered his soldiers, “to storm lookout Mountain”( U.S. Civil War Photographs). Eventually, the Union pushed back the Confederates and took complete control of the mountain. Once the Confederates gave up, the Union soldiers, “climbed to Point Lookout and planted the U.S. flag” (U.S. Civil War Photographs). One of the Union officers made a remark in a “diary entry saying that one could see seven states from the summit at ‘the Rock City’” (History of Rock City). After the completion of this battle, however, there was nothing in Rock City in which to hold the interest of the general population. For many years, Rock City was seemingly unknown to many people except for its few inhabits, hikers, and some geologists. However, Rock City had a greater fate: it would not forever be forgotten, rather it would rise as a well-known tourist attraction all over the United States. This is thanks to a humble man named Garnet Carter who would one day rise to fame and popularity. Carter, married to Frieda Carter, begin to take part in a recently developing community called Fairyland in Lookout Mountain in 1924. He began to build a golf course. However, this would not be any ordinary golf course. Because it was taking too long to build, he instead designed the first known miniature golf course called “Tom Thumb Golf Course.” Meanwhile, Mrs. Carter took on a new project of her own. Deeply passionate about nature, she decided to form the Rock City Gardens. Bravely, on her own, she, “took a ball of string and marked a trail winding through the giant rock formations all the way out to Lover’s Leap.” (History of Rock City). This amazing feat and show of determination impressed her husband. Carter began to help her. With his help, Rock City Gardens was officially opened on May 21, 1932. Initially, it was not huge success. Rock City, nestled in the mountains, was extremely hard to find. Hence, the famous, bright, red barns with the slogan, “Come see Rock City”, was created. Carter, an obviously intelligent man, hired Clark Byers to paint signs on the roofs of barns along many highways. The majority of these signs read, “Come see Rock City.” Conveniently, some of the signs, “told the mileage to Rock City, the best highway, or some simply bore the slogan. The signs could be found as far north as Michigan and as far west as Texas. By the end of the 1930’s the signs paid off, and more people than ever visited Rock City Gardens” (History of Rock City). These are now seen as not only part of the rich history of Rock City, but also as part of the southern culture. However, the number of these barns are now dwindling. There use to be about 900 of these. Now, about 74 years later, there are only around 100 of these left. Many of these barns are, “disappearing, bowing to time’s decay or being replaced by other marketing mediums.” (Barn History). As Byers patiently explained to many tourists, these signs were no simple designs. While painting them, Byers not only had to make his own paint, but also used a 4 inch brush while he freehandedly painted it. These signs are truly a work of patience, determination, and skill more

Now that you're this far, you're probably thinking: "How stupid could this guy be?" Here's bad news: It's n-o-t that easy. I need partial unemployment, the corporation has stated that they won't fight it, but TWC at 256-3000 keep telling me to call TWC at 258-6600, and 258-6600 has a constant message about "we're sorry, but we're not available at this time." I keep calling. Is reaching these people like winning the lottery? Ok. Easy five star best answer if you can just direct me to the exact link for "PARTIAL" unemployment. Resolved Question: what kind of stipulations can you put into a divorce decree?

my husband and i pretty much agree on all the terms of our uncontested divorce except one. right now, i have sole custody of our two girls and i get 25% of his net income for child support. he never fought me for custody, not even joint. he hasn't seen them in 6 years, but he pays child support because texas garnishes his wages. i wanted to make sure that if he were to ever hit the lottery or become wealthy overnight that his daughters wouldn't still be living off of $700 a month. i told him i wanted a stipulation in the decree that guaranteed his daughters 25% of whatever large sums of income he ever comes into. i even told him he could have it put into a fund that they couldn't touch until they were 18. he is ADAMANTLY refusing. he says that IF he were to ever win the lottery, he would make sure that his girls were taken care of, but that he would not put it in writing. first of all, who really thinks that they'll ever win the lottery? i just wanted it as peace of mind JUST IN CASE. secondly, if he has no problem with making sure they're taken care of, then what's the problem with putting it in writing? also, he's getting married again when our divorce is final. yet, he's willing to make this a contested divorce and for us to drag this out and pay a lot in fees just to fight me on this one term. it makes me wonder if he's going to be coming into money that i don't know about. also, a paralegal told me that if he ever DID win the lottery and we didn't have a stipulation that guaranteed some of that would go to his daughters, he would have every right to be a jerk and not give them anything. is there any way to ensure future money for my girls? more
