Junior in High School GPA: 5.53 (as of the end of sophomore year, may be a little lower maybe a little higher i'm not 100% sure) Rank: 24/271 Clubs: President and founder of Debate Team, Chess club, Film Team (film and announce school athletics on live TV), president and founder of stock/investment club. I'm trying to summer intern in a finance related enviroment mainly because that is the field I plan on pursuing. Unfortunately my laziness got the best of me sophmore year and part of my junior year thus the low 3.53 GPA. I understand that i'm probably not going to the Penn States, Harvards, Columbias, or the MITs of the U.S but i'm sure if I do well on my SAT"s I have a shot at some fair universities. I plan on majoring in economics/finance. I want to go to the BEST school possible that I can get into. Considering that I do well on my SAT's and ACT"s can I get into schools like UNC, Wake Forest, NYU, BU, Lehigh University, Villanova, Univeristy of Texas-Austin, BC, or Univeristy of Michigan? moreOpen Question: What is the highest state/public university tuition in Texas?

I work in telecom in Texas, and my current employer has occasional "early retirement packages" where I can get a lump sum payment and uncontested applications for unemployment benefits if I voluntarily terminate my employment (like say, if my position is moving to an office out of state, etc). I am pretty sure you can't apply for goverment student loans while receiving unemployment checks, but would it be possible to pay out of pocket for community college or re-training while I am on unemployment? I thought I remembered a law against this the last time I was laid off (mid 90s). Thanks for any info. moreResolved Question: What is your opinion about security problems another 9-11 Fake Students Get U.S. Visas Like 9/11 Hijackers?
The U.S. government claims it restricted the nation’s fraud-infested student visa program after the 9/11 hijackers exploited it to plan their attack yet a south Florida language school has just been busted for easily tricking immigration officials into granting hundreds of visas to foreign nationals who posed as students. Practically none of the 200 foreigners who got the visas ever attended the hokey Florida Language Institute in each of the past three years and most remain at large somewhere in the U.S. Besides presenting an obvious national security threat, this violates laws enacted after the 2001 terrorist attacks to reform the notoriously unregulated and corrupt student visa program. Several of the 9/11 terrorists entered and lived in the U.S. with student visas and one of the attackers had enrolled—but never attended—a northern California language school similar to the one shut down by federal authorities in Florida this week. Others had enrolled at various aviation schools throughout the country. The State Department vowed to clean up and heavily monitor the foreign student visa program, but nearly a decade later, that clearly hasn’t occurred. Examples abound in the last few years and the most recent case in Florida illustrates the government’s deplorable negligence. Eighty of the fake students have been arrested by immigration authorities and will likely be deported, but at least 120 are still at large and investigators say they are trying to determine what the foreigners are doing in the U.S. They come from various countries, including Turkey, Syria, Turkmenistan, Venezuela, Indonesia, south and Central America. In other alarming cases, a Pakistani man indicted in Houston for aiding the Taliban and training with firearms for jihad against Americans, entered the U.S. with a student visa. He remained in the country long after the visa expired, became heavily involved in Texas Muslim groups and completed weapons and reconnaissance training at various area locations to terrorize Americans. In the same month an admissions clerk in the nation’s largest public university system got caught accepting bribes to fast track foreign students’ applications, many from the Middle East. The woman worked at one of the biggest schools within the California State University system, which has 23 campuses, a total enrollment of about half a million students and a faculty of 46,000. Who could forget when 11 young Egyptian men disappeared in 2007 after arriving in the U.S. with student visas to attend an English program in Montana? Ages 18-22, the men landed at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport before vanishing. Incompetent federal authorities downplayed the seriousness of their failure to locate the men for more than a month. http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2010/mar/fake-students-get-u-s-visas-9-11-hijackers moreResolved Question: What Universities in Texas have the least amount of students?

I am a college student going for education, and I would like to make a difference in someone else since I never got to acomplish my dreams… I used to party and hang out with my boys and I got to the point that I felt lonely and the party life wasnt for me anymore so I quit the clubs and begin doing better in school. I completely change, I met my girlfriend about 8 months ago and she is a very wonderful girl, not many girls like her today. but know I am doing my internship for student teaching and all of the teachers made me feel terrible. They all talk negative about kids and on top of that are always complaining about how many hours they work and that they wake up at 7am and go to sleep at about 11 or midnight finishing school work. On top of that my I will teach biology (cause according to what i hear in college science teachers are in demand) plus I love science. The problem is that they tell me more than likely I am not going to get a job cause the demand for biology teachers is slow and that the recession and people from other states coming to our states and taking our jobs(TEXAS). Instead to go major in composite science. I went to my my university (UTPA in edimburgh, TExas) and they told me that they dont have the program. I need a year and a half and as far as I see it they make me feel I dont have a chance to get a job. I hate it, and feel i am incompetente. On top of that at my job they cut my hours and i am unable to take my girlfriend out (at least to eat), and eventhou she said it don’t matter as long as I am with her. I feel frustrated and cannot find the a solution. I want to change my degree to physical therapist and have better chances to find a job, but at the office of financial aid they told me that if i chance my degree since i am almost done i would have to pay half, but i dnt even have the money to do so. I earn about 9thousand a year and have to help my parents economically. I feel so bad and decided i will go to the navy cause they offered to pay my school, but I need to go oversees for four years. My mom tells me not to go cause if we go to war I may end up in trouble, but I hate to see her working so much… My girlfriend tells me not to worry and that we both will find a solution, but i dont agree. I am tired, this were not my plans for me and her. I knew I was not going to become rich but I don’t want her to be part of my poor life. She is a middle class girl and never being exposed to a poor environment. She wanted to hang out at 6pm today but I don’t want to see her. I want her to move on and find someone else cause I am a mess and feel she’ll be disappointed with me in the furure. What do I do? Please Help. I feel trap, I wanted to make a change in my life, and never depend on the government, but now I feel they own me, and the only solution I have is to join the navy...sorry about my grammar, spelling and sentence construction but I cant even think anymore… moreVoting Question: University of Texas scholarships/tuition questions?
OK, first of all, let me just say that if I don't go to college at Texas, my life is pretty much meaningless. It's the only place I've truly considered and I can't imagine myself anywhere else. I am only a sophomore in High School, but I am starting to look at colleges and such. My freshman year was alright, I ended with a 3.1. My first semester sophomore year was horrible, I had a lot of things going on in my life where I wasn' totally there. But right now (starting my second semester now) I have a cumulative 2.7, I know it's horrible. But in the next five semesters of my high school career I'll raise it to at least a 3.3-3.4? I am just guessing. But I know it will be above a 3.0 cumulative. I know i can still raise it, but since it's now I feel i kinda messed up hardcore. But on the plus side, I am in AP Euro right now, and next yeat I am in AP US, and AP Physc. Plus I am involved in track. I am a female pole vaulter, I was on varsity my freshman year, and if things continue well, I will set the school record. I will have probably pretty good test scores (SAT/ACT) not below average, but not way above average. I will also have community service, and nice reconmendations. I know this is a long story but if you take time to read it and answer as many questions as you can, I will GREATLY appreciate it!!! I am a female runner who is in my junior year of High School. I started running in the fall of my soph xc season and had a 21:23 pr which is about in the mid-pack among female hs runner rankings. I didn't do track in the spring of my Soph. Year bc I was on varsity soccer. But I increased my training and had a 19:17 pr by my junior xc season, which is in the top 5% of hs girl rankings plus I was the #2 runner in my district and qualified for state. And now I decided to do track in the spring and am dedicating lots of time and hard work. But as freshman my gpa was 2.3,2.7, and 3.5 during the 3 trimesters. And my sophomore year my gpa progressed to a 3.9, 4.0,3.8. But family problems got very stressful and distracting so my first trimester during my junior year was a 3.7. And then my family moved to texas from Michigan and it was very hard on me and still is so now, so I have no idea what my gpa is and since they have semesters here I won't find out for a while but if I work hard I think I can maintain a 3.4 this semester even though the classes here are harder and I have less time to study. Well anyways even though my gpa is kinda rocky and I now live in Texas, do you think colleges will still offer me scholarships like they did in Michigan. how much is athletic scholarships based on grades, sat/act results compared to performance/fast times? I dunno if it helps or not but I'm also turning 18 this summer and my family is planing to go back to visit my sister who owns a house there and said I can stay with her next year cause it's my senior year of high school and I told her I want to attend college there. Will colleges still offer me offers even though I will have been gone for 6 months my junior year as long as my performance/times gets better? Patton has claimed Ph.D. candidacy in geology from Queensland Christian University in Australia. According to Glen Kuban: "When I asked Patton for clarification on this during the [1989 Bible-Science] conference, he stated that he had no degrees, but was about to receive a Ph.D. degree in geology, pending accreditation of QCU, which he assured me was "three days away." Many days have since passed, and Patton still has no valid degree in geology. Nor is the accreditation of QCU imminent." Glen Kuban has written more extensively on Patton's claimed degrees in his articles on the "Paluxy "man-tracks"." 2. KELLY SEGRAVES, is the director and co-founder of the Creation-Science Research Center (not to be confused with the Creation Research Society). In 1975, Segraves listed himself as M.A. and D.Sc. on CSRC letterhead. Segraves claimed his honorary D.Sc. from Christian University, but no such university could be located. It is possible that he was referring to Indiana Christian University, which also conferred an honorary doctorate on Harold Slusher. After having this degree called into question, Segraves dropped the D.Sc. in 1981 and now lists D.R.E. in its place. A D.R.E. degree is a doctorate of religious education and does not qualify as a scientific degree. Segraves also claims to have received his M.A. from Sequoia University in 1972. According to Bears' Guide, Sequoia University was issued a permanent injunction in 1984 by a Los Angeles judge and ordered to "cease operation until the school could comply with state education laws." The school offered degrees in osteopathic medicine, religious studies, hydrotherapy and physical sciences. Thank you moreVoting Question: Do you think i can get into any of these universities?

With the approval of Gov. Rick Perry, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott filed paperwork to challenge the Environmental Protection Agency’s endangerment finding that CO2 poses a danger to public health. Texas State Climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon (professor in the Texas A&M Department of Atmospheric Sciences, PhD from MIT) utterly dismissed the attacks on climate science in Attorney General Abbott’s petition, saying "if atmospheric concentrations of the six greenhouse gases continue to rise due to human influence, the Earth would eventually reach a point where there would be massive disruptions of ecosystems, changes in sea level, decreases in air quality, and so forth that would, in particular, substantially harm the public welfare of those generations forced to experience them. So anthropogenic increases of greenhouse gas concentrations clearly present a danger to the public welfare, and I agree with the EPA’s findings" Dr. Andrew Dessler, a climatologist at Texas A&M University also states “I, along with all of the other faculty in the department, agree with the main conclusions of the IPCC.” http://climateprogress.org/2010/02/19/texas-state-climatologist-disputes-state%e2%80%99s-anti-science-petition-greenhouse-gases-clearly-present-a-danger-to-the-public-welfare/ Who's more believable - Texas politicians or Texas A&M climate scientists? And by the way before accusing climate scientists of bias, consider that by opposing the governor, Nielsen-Gammon if anything is putting his position as state climatologist at risk. And why didn't Texan politicians consult their state's climate science experts before challenging the EPA on a climate science matter? moreResolved Question: Best Midwest Business Colleges?

I have been recently accepted in a Master of Arts program at the University of Texas-Austin. It is one of the top universities to get into for my program of study (ranked 6th), so I would like to go there. However I have not received any funding to the school because the program also offers a PhD. Most of the students that receive funding are working toward a PhD. I've been accepted into other schools, where I might receive funding, but my heart is set on UT Austin. I don't live in Texas, so I would have to pay out of state tuition plus living expenses.
