Open Question: What kind of assailants do you think Olivia Benson would have a chance on?

Personally, I'd think she can definitely take on someone in her own division. The sexual predators which are mostly men that Benson would have a chance on, are the ones who are physically weak, and skinny, and is relatively untrained, and being easier for Olivia to control. Other than that, I don't think she's suitable for police work. At least not in field duties. A female cop suited for police work, which involves combat on occasion has to be able to handle, and defeat males in battle. Sydney Cooke in Walker Texas Ranger is much more suited for that job than Olivia is. She'd make a more field, and combat effective female for Elliot. To me, Liv if she's going to be portrayed as weak as she is now, she oughta to written to back off to a non field jobs, such as interrogations, and rape crisis counseling. more

Resolved Question: What kind of obstacles do you think Olivia Benson is facing?

Also, what do you think is keeping her from fighting, and conquering these obstacles. I believe if Benson were written to be getting a little help and more training, she'd do a lot better in the field, especially combat situations against perps. I feel if Benson can't overcome her personal issues and start winning battles, it will seem as though she had no business being a field operative or a cop. I doubt Detective Benson will written to make a comeback stronger than ever. If Sydney Cooke from Walker Texas Ranger were in the Special Victims Unit, Cragen would probably have Olivia retire to a desk job and Sydney would take her place since she's a lot more suited for fighting and solving sex crimes and is a great fighter. That's only my opinion though. Let me know what you think. more

personally i loved the show growing up and think its not only a great show, but also can help instill values in young children and teach them from right and wrong(its in the title song folks). Now i know Chuck Norris isn't a spring chicken, but he's still in great shape. I think he could have maybe 2 or 3 more seasons of Walker left under his belt. If anything, i'd settle for a TV movie every couple months. more

I know one of them is Law and Order SVU in various episodes with Detective Olivia Benson at times being portrayed as one such stereotypical female cop. And one where a female cop is portrayed very strong is Walker Texas Ranger. That lady was Nia Peeple's Sydney Cooke. And do you know any others where female cops are portrayed strong, and not so stereotypically. I think Olivia Benson has potential to be a strong cop physically and emotionally, and a couple episodes portray her this way. Mariska Hargitay does a great job playing Benson. She has very good intellegence, and empathy for victims. more

Resolved Question: How would you like your female police detective to be on cop shows and real life?

I'd prefer a woman who is very beautiful, very strong physically and emotionally, yet still feminine, and very intuitive and intellegent. I like the ones who will not not be submissive in any way to suspects and enemies alike, and will not take any kind of junk from anyone, and that they'll get the job done like the men will. Most cop shows but not all, portray the female detectives, and other cops as submissive, physically and emotionally weak and delicate flowers, and sometimes easy victims who always need a guy to protect them. Some guys like them this way, but we should know that not all female cops are that way in real life. There are definitely some who are very effective. My favorite female cop is a Texas Ranger on the TV show Walker Texas Ranger named Sydney Cooke. I feel ladies would want a strong role model. But that's my opinion. I'm a guy, and I always want to see them strong. more

There are three that I likea lot. One who has a potential to be a warrior is Det. Olivia Benson from Law and Order SVU. She seems to be a physically strong woman, but she has a series of problems keeping her from at time being effective on the street like she should. My dad is turning 60 next weekend, so it's a big deal. Problem- I have no idea what to get him. My dad might possibly be the most non-defined person ever. He has no hobbies and he doesn't shop anywhere so I can't get gift certificates. He watches a couple tv series that have been cancelled so I'm sure he's seen every episode and I don't think my mom would appreciate dvd seasons of JAG and Walker Texas Ranger :) I've done everything I can think of, even searching sites for gifts for "dads who have everything" and "dads who have no interests". Resolved Question: Why do good TV shows often get canceled while, the lame ones remain on air for an extended period of,,,?

Time? For example: K-Ville was canceled when the writers strike happened and, they never bothered putting it back on the air. Now there's news of the new show Dark Blue getting canceled and, it just came out not that long ago. But really stupid, tasteless shows with a lame story line like Royal Pains will remain on air for God knows how long. It seems like a lot of Television networks like TBS and, USA are trying to filter out quality TV shows. The only good ones I see on these channels that are any good anymore are some of the older shows like NCIS and, Walker Texas Ranger. more
