About Ephesus Ephesus Questions asked

Open Question: christains. you relealise you're just following what a bunch of men decided in the 4th and 5th centuries?

you might think you're following the word of god, but there was no fixed idea on what a christian should do or think until the the 4th or 5th centuries, where a group of powerful men got together and made a bunch of decisions. The edict of Milan, the council of Nicaea, the council of Constantinople, and the first council of Ephesus, were basically where it was decided which stories about god and jesus were true, and what should be removed from the teachings and bible. What you have left is their version of what you should think and how you should act. for instance, at Nicaea they decided that jesus was the actual son of god, instead of the figurative son, like other 'sons of god' in the bible interested in reading more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Ephesus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Constantinoplesorry about the spelling error in the question. it should say "realise"exodefoliant: finally, you admit that the bible is written by men and is not the word of godstar: i'd hardly call making an obvious point using examples and showing source babbling. Resolved Question: Christians, Was Jesus Christ Divine?

In the beginning, each gospel was circulated independently in the community it had been written. Mark was probably composed in Rome, Matthew in Antioch, Luke in Ceaserea and John in Ephesus. None of the gospel writers were eyewitnesses to life of Jesus, and very little if anything is known about them. Now that the gospels are gathered together in the Bible, they can all be studied together. Yet most readers today often forget or ignore what is in Mark and concentrate only on the “improved” version in Matthew, Luke and more specifically John. When we turn our attention to John, the last gospel to be written, it is not surprising to note that Jesus is magnified and transformed into someone very different to the person found in Mark. John’s Jesus is a powerful being, occupying a position somewhere between God and Man. He is the logos, the Word of God, through whom God created everything. He is no longer just a Prophet and Messenger of God, but rather God’s only begotten Son! Although none of the gospels teach that Jesus is God, some of the statements found in the fourth gospel place Jesus so high above humanity that many readers deem this as enough proof of the later Christian claim to Jesus’ divinity. For example, it is ONLY in the gospel of John, that we find the following statements: · “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him, might not perish, but might have eternal life”. (John 3:16) · “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, He was in the beginning with God.” (John 1:1) · “I and my Father are One”. (John 10:30) · “He that has seen me has seen the Father”. (John 14: 8-9) · “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. (John 14:6) · “…Before Abraham came to be, I AM”. (John 8: 58) Another striking fact is that whilst in the earlier gospels Jesus is seen preaching about the Kingdom of God, in John, Jesus is occupied preaching about himself. In Mark, the word “kingdom” appears on the lips of Jesus 18 times, whilst in John it is drastically reduced to five. Moreover, in Mark Jesus uses “I” in self-reference, nine times, whilst in John and whopping 118 times! When we read the earlier gospels, the impression is that the “Kingdom of God” was Jesus’ main preaching and teaching, whilst in John’s gospel, Jesus is rarely heard preaching the “Kingdom of God”. His gospel is substituted with profound and staggering claims by Jesus about himself. · “I am the bread of life”. (John 6:35) · “I am the light of the world”. (John 8:12) · “I am the door of the sheep”. (John 10:7) · “I am the good shepherd”. (John 10:11) · “I am the resurrection and the life”. (John 11:25) · “I am the way, the truth and the life”. (John 14:6) · “I am the true vine”. (John 15:1) It is of no surprise that evangelists and Christian apologists, when asked for textual proof for the divinity of Jesus, quickly rush to John’s gospel, since none of the above powerful self-testimonies are to be found in any of the other gospels. Surely, if these words were part and parcel of the original words of Jesus, every gospel writer would have mentioned them. It is implausible to believe that the writers neglected all of these core and fundamental teachings and busied themselves with lesser details in Jesus’ life. Moreover, why was it that the term “father” or “the father” referring to God is only used four times in Mark, but a mammoth 173 times in John? The most obvious deduction to be drawn from these statistics is that over the period spanned by Mark and John, there was an evolution and development of the traditions. In Mark’s gospel, Jesus spoke of God as “God”, whilst after 30 years when John wrote his gospel, Jesus in the very same episodes calls “God” his “Father”. In the earliest of the four gospels, Jesus appears very human and very much a prophet. In the last gospel, however, he appears much more divine, and much more like an icon. It is for this reason that Mark’s gospel was rather neglected by the early church. It was less frequently copied by scribes, preachers rarely referred to it and it was read only occasionally in church congregations and services. As stated earlier, the author of John’s gospel was not the only one guilty of changing the words of Jesus, Matthew and Luke also not satisfied with the depiction of Jesus in Mark set out to magnify the position of Jesus in a number of ways. When we line up the gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke (synoptic gospels) together, and compare them with one another, we will notice that the events and speeches are modified as we go from one gospel to another. more

Resolved Question: Trinitarians how can a disciple be a trinitarian and yet not know about the Holy Spirit?

Consider the following: Acts 19:1,2 (NASB) 1 It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some DISCIPLES. 2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." (emphasis mine) So Paul meets up with some disciples who have no idea what the Holy Spirit is. Is that possible for a believer not to know the 3 person of the godhead? But there is more vs 5 (NASB) 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. So what ever happened to the baptismal formula in Matt 28? Were they changing up the formula? And last but not least vs 6 (NASB) 6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. So is Paul God since he gave them Holy Spirit? Now let's see how many of you can actually stick to the question and not wander off!***FIREBALL*** As usual thanks for NOT reading the question!***CLINT*** There was more to my question.***GERTY*** The were disciples, so they WERE believers. Try again!***MARTY*** Read Acts 19:5 AGAIN!***peacelily*** What you fail to notice in John 17:11 is that the name given to him, or authority that that name holds, is GIVEN to him by his Father. If Christ is God and holds co-equality with his Father why does he need "the name" GIVEN to him. Again the name above every name was GIVEN to him and ultimately to the glory of who? His Father! more

Resolved Question: Why do People talk bad about Jehovah Gods Servants preaching from door to door?

as did Jesus and his disciples? The Bible specifically mentions that the apostles preached from house to house. For example, Acts 5:42 says of them: “Every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.” Some 20 years later, the apostle Paul reminded the older men of the congregation in Ephesus: “I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house.” Did Paul visit those elders before they became believers? Evidently so, for he taught them, among other things, “about repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus.” (Acts 20:20, 21) Commenting on Acts 20:20, Robertson’s Word Pictures in the New Testament says: “It is worth noting that this greatest of preachers preached from house to house.” This is a must read if You are a True Christian.......ACLU Brief Affirms Right of Jehovah's Witnesses to Carry Out Public Ministry Laws in Puerto Rico Restricting Access to Public Streets Violate First Amendment. http://www.commondreams.org/newswire/2010/01/21-19How are they annoying ?...Jesus says: (Look! Resolved Question: Are other Christians concerned about the claim that Paul was a false apostle?

I've lately heard proponents of "Yahsua / Yeweh" (never call him Jesus) and "red letter Christians" put up circumstansial evidence to paint the apostle Paul as false and his so called invention of Christianity as false. I disagree, especially about the circumstances for any "rejection" of Paul in Ephesus. He was there nearly 3 years during his missionary work and I think it was more a case of the flock temporarily scattered when Rome cracked down in that area. Paul did say one guy cheered him up and visited him in prison. They also claim that the dead sea scrolls indicate Paul was the liar on the road to Demascus and the apostles were against him - but that could have been anyone given the evangelisation movement at the time. Anyway my question is what are your thoughts on this. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Should women teach about Christ?

Act 18:24 Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos( a man), a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. Act 18:25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. Act 18:26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla (a woman) and Aquila (Prisilla's husband)heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. My take on this is that they certainly should. Prisilla is, by scriptural standards, supposed to ask her husband at home if she wants to learn of God. But here we see that she taught not only a man, but a learned, accurate, zealous preacher who had a thorough knowledge of the scriptures and was speaking in synagogues! Pretty heady stuff. Obviously women are just as capable as men to preach and teach the gospel of Christ. It's also notable that in this instance the woman is named first, her husband last. The focus here is probably an indication that she was also more qualified than her husband to teach an already qualified male preacher. It almost seems that some answers have related my question to mean that I think women shouldn't teach about God. Gos to show me that the trolling in here is fast becoming the norm. sad. more

Resolved Question: What does God say about Catholics, Jw's, Mormons, Muslims, etc?

What does God say about false religion? Is God wrong? MAT 5:19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 15:9 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'" CATHOLICS ROM 16:17 I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. 18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. MORMONS, JEHOVAS WITNESSES 1CO 3:11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. MORMONS, JEHOVAS WITNSESSES 21 So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, 11:18 In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. 19 No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval. 2CO 2:17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God. 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. MORMONS, JEHOVAS WITNESSES, MUSLIMS GAL 1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. ALL OF THE ABOVE 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! YES LET THEM BE ETERNALLY CONDEMNED EPH 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. COL 2:4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. ATHEISTS 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. CATHOLICS 19 He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow. 20 Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: 21 "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"? MUSLIMS 22 These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self- imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence. 1TI 1:3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer 4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith. 6 Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. 7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. ALL OF THE ABOVE 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 6:3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lo more

Resolved Question: Why do my fellow Christians celebrate Christmas?

Christ said, “But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Matt. 15:9). Christmas is not a command of God—it is a tradition of men. Christ continued, “Full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition” (Mark 7:9). Every year, throughout the world, on December 25th, hundreds of millions do just that! Jesus Christ was not born on December 25th. Luke 2:8 explains that when Christ was born, “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.” Note that they were “abiding” in the field. This never happened in December. Both Ezra 10:9-13 and the Song of Solomon 2:11 show that winter was the rainy season and shepherds could not stay on cold, open fields at night. Numerous encyclopedias plainly state that Christ was not born on December 25th! The Catholic Encyclopedia directly confirms this. In all likelihood, Christ was born in the fall! A lengthy technical explanation would prove this point. So why do wecelebrate a pegan holiday. Yule or Yule-tide is a winter festival that was initially celebrated by the historical Germanic peoples as a pagan religious festival, though it was later absorbed into, and equated with, the Christian festival of Christmas. What about the Santa Myth? In Revelation 2:6 and 15, we read about a “doctrine of the Nicolaitanes,” which Christ twice tells His Church “[He] hates.” Let’s analyze the word Nicolaitane. It means “follower of Nicholas.” Nikos means “conqueror, destroyer.” Laos means, “people.” Nicolaitanes, then, are people who follow the conqueror or destroyer—Nimrod. If you have believed that following Christmas is an innocent Christian custom, let this truth sink in! Some Bible commentators believe the Nicolaitans were a heretical sect who followed the teachings of Nicolas—whose name means “one who conquers the people”—who was possibly one of the deacons of the early church mentioned in Acts 6:5. Jesus commends the church of Ephesus for hating the deeds of the Nicolaitans as He does (Revelation 2:6). No doubt the leaders of the Ephesian church protected their flock from these destructive heresies and kept them from committing the same evil deeds. All sin is hateful to Christ as it should be to His followers, as we hate men’s evil deeds, not the men themselves. To the church at Pergamos, He had not commendation, but censure. Unlike the Ephesians, they actually embraced the teachings of the Nicolaitans (Revelation 2:15). Jesus warns them that unless they repent, they are in danger of the judgment that is sure to fall on those who teach false doctrine, attack His church, and destroy His people. The sword of judgment is poised over their heads and His patience is not limitless (Revelation 2:16, 19:15). The lesson for us is that the church of the Lord Jesus throughout the ages has been plagued by those of the Nicolaitan spirit. The only way to recognize false teaching is to be intimately familiar with truth through the diligent study of the Word of God. The real Jesus Christ was never in and never will be in Christmas! He cannot be put back into where He has never been. But the “god of this world,” Satan (II Cor. 4:4), has always been in Christmas. He is its author! The true God commands that we “must worship Him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24). This does not mesh with the great Christmas and Santa Claus lies that all children so willingly believe. Paul, under inspiration of the true Jesus Christ of the Bible, was moved to record the peril of unwittingly following “another Jesus.” Consider. Most have probably never remotely considered the idea of a false Jesus for even a moment—that there is such a thing as a wrong, different and “false Christ” (Matt. 24:23-24)— called “another Jesus.” In the past, this “Jesus” has even corrupted the thinking of true Christians. This much is plain. But the “subtilty” of how this can happen, and how it has occurred in history, is so deceptive— so seductive— that even true Christians can unknowingly slip into worshipping this so- called Jesus. This is what was happening to the Corinthians. Jesus said twice, in Matthew 7:16 and 20, that “you shall know them by their fruits.” Everything that people say or do, good or bad, has fruits. The fruits of Christmas are terrible. This season leads the entire year in adultery, loneliness, jealousy, drunkenness and drunk driving, family arguments (and worse), and accumulation of debt that often lasts until March. This problem is so significant that almost all churches typically report that their incomes—how ironic—drop during this period as people “recover” from all their spending “Christmas has become a commercial season. It’s sponsored, kept alive, by the heaviest retail advertising campaigns of the year. You see a masqueraded ‘Santa Claus’ in many stores. Ads keep us deluded and deceived about the ‘beautiful Christmas spirit.’ more

Resolved Question: is there a different baptism of the holy spirit + speaking in tongues?

Or is it you get the Holy Spirit when you believe on jesus and repent of sins? I find the whole speaking in tongues think abit strange but there seems to be scriptures for it.Some people say that when original chrsitians spoke tongues it was other real languages so people from other countries would believe & some verses seem to support this but other verses dont. I dont know the exact verses but it says in bible something like"tongues edifies(builds up) the person but prophecy edifies the whole church if tongues was only other real languages then why would it edify(build up) the person speaking it? Also paul, i think, mentions something sort of hypothetically like "even if was able to speak in other tongues & tongues of angels but if i dont have charity......) If tongues were just other know languages them why would he mention 'tongues of angels"? Aslo i think it says something about tongues being 'a secret prayer language to God" or something like that? Theses veses seem to suggest that tongues was somethign more then just being able to speak another already known(to some country but not to you) language to spread the gospel. Was there possibly two different types of tongues or are these verse misunderstood? At the same time though i find the whole "shaba aba hashada" speaking in tongues strange, confusing & perhaps even sometime scary /confusing So whats the truth? Below are some verse.they were send in a n email to me so i dont know if theyre accurate ACTS 8: 14-17 -- and they received the Holy Ghost.Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Now when the apostles which were in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet He was fallen on none of them; only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. (REPEAT OF FIRST SCRIPTURE LISTED ABOVE) ACTS 19: 1-6 -- And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then Paul said, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they shoud believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues and prophesied. more

Resolved Question: Do you think that this still happens today?

In Acts 19 we see where the word of God was beginning to prevail but certain business men who were in fear of losing money from selling little idols got together and decided that they had to put a stop to the word of God.Do you think that people still behave like this today? If so, have you recognized it. Can you give an example of it. Acts 19:20-28 20So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed. 21After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. 22So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season. 23And the same time there arose no small stir about that way. 24For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; 25Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth. 26Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands: 27So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth. 28And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. Do you think practices like this contribute to why people don't believe in God at all? more

Resolved Question: Is Mary the Mother of God?

Veneration of the mother of God recieved its impetus when...the pagan masses streamed into the church......Their piety and religious consciousness {that of pagans converted to Christianity) had been formed for millennia through the cult of the 'great mother 'goddess and the 'divine virgin.--"THe New Encyclopedia Britannica 1988) Volume 16,pages 326 and 327. The Bible says,"You are to conceive in your womb and bear a son,and you must name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the most high...And so the child will be holy and will be called Son of God. Luke 1:31-35,The New Jerusalem Bible. This clearly states that Mary was the mother of the "Son of God,not God himself.Could she have carried within herself the One whom the heavens themselves cannot contain? 1 Kings 8:27 She never made such a claim. it is the teaching about the Trinity that has sown confusion over the identity of Mary.By proclaiming her Theotokos (a Greek meaning God bearer.) or "Mother of God" the council of Ehesus in 431 C.E.,set the stage for Mary worship. The city of Ephesus where this church council was held had for centuries been at the heart of idol worship celebrating the fertility goddess Artemis. So it was that many aspects of the worship of the image of Artemus that "fell from heaven," such as processions were integrated into Mary worship.Acts 19:35 Another practice that crept into Christian teaching was the use of images of Mary and others in worship. Resolved Question: Have ye received the holy Ghost since ye believed?

“Paul, having passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephesus. And finding certain disciples, he said unto them, ‘Have ye received the holy Ghost since ye believed?’ And they said unto him, ‘We have not so much as heard whether there be any holy Ghost.’ And he said unto them, ‘Unto what then were ye baptized?’ And they said, ‘Unto John’s baptism.’ Then said Paul, ‘John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.’ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the holy Ghost came on them, and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.” (Acts 19:1-7) 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.I got this out of the King James Bible. You don't have to speak in toughs to go to heaven, but you should be seeking. more

Resolved Question: John the Baptist vs Jesus?

There is a problem to the gospels’ story about John’s role. If he was to be the forerunner of Jesus, someone who prepares the way for the Lord (Mark 1:2); his mission would have been complete the moment Jesus steps into the scene. One would expect John’s movement to be obsoleted and his followers would disband or follow Jesus. Yet this was obviously not the case. Matthew 11:2-3 (Luke 7:18-20) Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, "Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?" The passage above also showed that John kept his disciples to the end of his life and that John, contrary to other gospel accounts, seem to NOT know if Jesus was the Messiah. Even after the death of John, his disciples continued to be a separate and distinct group from the followers of Jesus. Acts 19:1-7 narrates the story of Paul meeting some followers of John in Ephesus, a quarter of a century after the death of John and Jesus. These followers had not even heard of Jesus or the Holy Spirit. The followers of John, which eventually became known as the Mandeans, persisted until the second century. They were often locked in theological conflict with the early Christians-as the polemics of the early Christians testify. We also find that the while the passage in Antiquities mentioned John’s preaching of repentance and practice of baptism, it makes no mentioned of him being a forerunner to another. Antiquities 18:5:2 "John, who was called the Baptist;...who was a good man, and commanded the Jews to exercise virtue, both as to righteousness toward one another, and piety toward God, and so to come to baptism, for that the washing [with water] would be acceptable to him, if they made use of it, not in order to the putting away of some sins, but for the purification of the body; supposing still that the soul was purified beforehand by righteousness." The balance of evidence therefore, is in favour of the hypothesis that John never preached about he being a forerunner to Jesus. So why do the gospels give contradicting stories about this?EDIT: Some of you have no exegetical skills whatsoever. Read this again: Even after the death of John, his disciples continued to be a separate and distinct group from the followers of Jesus. Acts 19:1-7 narrates the story of Paul meeting some followers of John in Ephesus, a quarter of a century after the death of John and Jesus. These followers had not even heard of Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Also, like previously stated, John's cult/sect survived until the 2nd century AD and were in constant battle with the Christians. Obviously they disagreed. more

Resolved Question: Christians ,Acts 19:23-41 At that particular time there arose no little disturbance concerning The Way?

Do You think The Apostle Paul was in the Right or Did De‧me′tri‧us also make a Good Point? Would the craftsmen and the Merchants of the Earth in our day be a Little Upset if Christians decided to Quit observing Christmas and Easter? http://www.wordorigins.org/index.php/easter/ Easter, or Eastre as it is originally, was the name of a pagan goddess of the dawn (Ishtar,Isis,Artemis, Fertility Goddess,Queen of Heaven) whose festival was held on the vernal equinox. The Roman Church adopted her name and many of the celebratory practices (as they did with Saturnalia and Christmas) for their celebration of Christ’s resurrection. The pagan holiday roughly corresponded with the time of year of the crucifixion and resurrection (Passover). The ancients ranked the temple of Artemis at Ephesus as one of the seven wonders of the world. It was an imposing structure made of cedar, cypress, white marble, and gold. For the great festivals held in the month of Artemision (March-April) visitors numbering hundreds of thousands arrived at Ephesus from all of Asia Minor. One feature of the celebration was the religious procession, with the image of Artemis being paraded about the city in a most jubilant manner. The making of silver shrines of Artemis proved to be a profitable enterprise for Demetrius and other Ephesian silversmiths. Therefore, when the apostle Paul’s preaching in Ephesus caused a considerable number of persons to forsake the unclean worship of this goddess, Demetrius stirred up the other craftsmen, telling them that not only did Paul’s preaching pose a threat to their financial security but also the danger existed that the worship of the great goddess Artemis would come to nothing. This culminated in a riot that was finally dispersed by the city recorder.—Ac 19:23-41Richardt and Yougano.......The Point is that the biggest days for Walmart and Kmart are Holidays that do not have any thing to do with True worship....That is Why the Riot ,Paul was turning people to the Truth....They were no longer worshiping and buying and supporting a False Teaching..Once U have the Truth ,The World hates You...Jesus said they would.... more

Resolved Question: Is Rev. 2 about the apostle Paul?

Ephesus was the capitol city of the Roman province of "Asia" and Paul said that he was entirely rejected by them. "You know that everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me" 2 Tim 1:15 John wrote in Rev. 2 congratulating his followers for rejecting the false apostles: "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write...I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false." Rev. 2:1-2. Was John congratulating the Ephesians for rejecting Paul and his new religion? more

Ok.. me and a group of friends (including my boyfriend of 3 years) are looking to go to Marmaris in Turkey for 2 weeks next summer. There will be about 6 of us in total. We are going All Inclusive and are very central in Marmaris. Roughly how much spending money do people think we'd need EACH? Resolved Question: Where is best in Turkey, Side (Antalya) or Altinkum?

Me and my partner are going away to Turkey soon and I am wondering what option is best for us. We are a young couple and like the beach etc, but its important for us to visit a place with culture and interesting places to visit. We're not really fans of family's and crowded beaches. We're on a bit of a budget (£200 - £300) and so far I have identified Antalya and Altinkum as possible places. We did a lot of research into Side and were thinking of going there. However I'm now thinking Altinkum, because it may not be so commercialized? Which would you prefer and why? If anybody has any other places (available from Bristol airport), I'd love to hear about them. --- I have a few questions about Altinkum if anybody has visited there: -Its up in the Mid/ North West, how does the weather compare? -Is Ephesus going to be near enough to visit? -We would land in Bodrum, is that far from Altinkum? more

Resolved Question: Is being a Christian really baseed upon my works, or the faith of Christ consummated by the Spirit?

Paul while on his way to Ephesus, and he found certain brethren about twelve, and he asked them if they had receive the Spirit, since they believed? They answered we have not so much as heard anything of the Holy Spirit; Paul answered of what baptism were you baptized? They answered of John's read Acts 19: 1-6. If knowing the baptism of John surely they assessed that all there was to being saved is believing or doing the best you can or being thankful or going to church should be enough shouldn't it? My dad says that you can't have the nature of the devil, the old man, and be saved. That old man must be put to death, and eternal life must be our new self. And the reaon i'm asking the question is becasue i want tosee if my friends can help my dad thinks he's so smart. He said that 1 Corinthians 12:13 is the salvation Jesus purchased with His own body and blood and is consummated by the Spirit, the same as Titus 3: 5, and if this event has not taken place in our heart, we are only mental assenting to the word of God. more

Resolved Question: Did Peter or Paul baptise these Gentiles in Water ?

Acts 10:44-48 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized IN THE NAME of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Acts 19:1-7 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, THEY WERE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve. > Where do we read where any of these men were place in any WATER of any kind as did the DEACON Phillip ? Ac 8:38 - And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the WATER, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. Who told the Deacon to but this man in WATER ? and why would the Jews be astonished at THE Gentiles who received the spirit without water Baptism ? Ac 1:5 - For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Ac 11:16 - Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. > What did Peter forget regarding Water baptism in that he said: " then REMEMBERED " when HE was explaining how he preached to the Gentiles and just by preaching, the holy ghost came upon them and they spake with Tongues? JuceOk-by-m, Nice try, Messiah is speaking to a Jewish man who rejected John's Baptism and it is before he died on the cross, so it will still be required of him inorder for him to be baptized into Messiah's DEATH, he would have to do so BEFORE he die. One can not enter a covenant or will after the will maker is already dead. ( Heb.9:17 ) more

Resolved Question: Why do Protestants not believe that the Twelve Apostles were the first bishops of the Catholic Church?

Christ gave the power to teach, to sanctify, and to rule the members of His Church to the Apostles, the first bishops of the Church. St. Peter was the first Head. After a miraculous escape from prison in Jerusalem, he founded his See in Antioch; here the followers of Christ were first called Christians. Peter made frequent missionary journeys through Judea, Samaria, Galilee, Asia Minor, and probably even Greece. He finally fixed his See at Rome. St. Peter presided at the Council of the Apostles in Jerusalem in the year 50 A. D. At the same time that St. Paul was beheaded, St. Peter was crucified head downwards, on Vatican Hill, Rome, 67 A. D. St. John, the Beloved Disciple, lived at Ephesus and governed the Church in Asia Minor. In the time of Trajan he was thrown into a caldron of boiling oil, but was miraculously preserved. Later he was banished to Patmos, where he had the revelations which we call the Apocalypse. He died at the age of about 100 years, the last of the Apostles, and the only one who did not die a martyr's death. He left his Gospel and Epistles. St. James the Greater, St. John's brother, labored in Judea, and according to tradition, travelled as far as Spain. He was the first of the Apostles to be martyred being beheaded in Jerusalem in the year 44, by Herod Agrippa. St. Matthew preached among the Ethiopians, Persians, and Parthians, and was martyred in Parthia. He wrote the first of the four Gospels. St. James the Less was Bishop of Jerusalem. He was cast down from the pinnacle of the Temple in 63 A. D. He left one Epistle. St. Andrew, St. Peter's brother, preached along the lower Danube, and was crucified in Greece. St. Thomas preached in Persia, Medea, and went as far as India. He was martyred in India, pierced with a lance at the command of the king. St. Philip preached in Phrygia and Scythia, and was crucified at Hieropolis. St. Bartholomew preached in India, Arabia,.and Assyria. He was flayed and crucified in Armenia. St. Simon preached in North Africa, and was martyred in Persia. St. Jude preached in Syria, and was martyred in Persia. He wrote the "Catholic Epistle". St. Matthias, chosen to take the place of Judas, preached in Ethiopia, and was martyred in Sebastopolis. St. Paul was converted miraculously (Acts 9) in the year 34. He of all the Apostles labored the most abundantly. He wrote many Epistles. He is called the Apostle of the Gentiles, because he carried the Gospel to the pagan world. He travelled extensively and successively to Seleucia, Cyprus, Asia Minor, Phrygia, Galatia, Macedonia, Thessalonica, Athens, Corinth, Miletus, and finally Rome. From Rome he went to Spain and the East, then returned to Rome, where he was martyred in 67 A. D. Christ intended that this power should be exercised also by their successors, the bishops of the Church. The Apostles first preached in Judea on the very first Christian Pentecost. Then they dispersed throughout the different countries of the then known world. Everywhere they preached, baptized, and ruled the Christian communities. They were the first bishops of the Church. "As the Father has sent me, I also send you" (John 20:21). The Apostles chose men to assist them, imparting to them greater or less powers. Before leaving a place, they chose a successor with full powers (Acts 14:22). Those who received only a small part of the powers of the Apostles were called deacons. Those given greater power were the priests. Those appointed successors to rule in the place of the Apostles were the bishops. Christ had given the Apostles full powers to choose successors, when He gave them the powers His Father had given Him (John 20:21) It was His wish that the Apostles should have successors to continue the Church, which He said would last till the end of the world (Matt. 28:20). Without successors to the Apostles, the Church would have no rulers, and being unorganized would never have lasted. more

Resolved Question: Day trips outside of Istanbul?

I am going to Istanbul for 6 days and was hoping to get some recommendations from you about where best to go for a day trip, I understand that Ephesus, Capadoccia and Bursa are quite good but I was looking at more of a place nearer to Istanbul, near the sea (maybe Black sea) or maybe a town which has good hamams and massages. If possible somewhere that you could recommend of the tourist path that has absolutely wowed you! I know I'm asking alot but I really hope that someone out there can help me! With regards to boat rides on the Bosporus, how much do they cost and where should I take them from? Lastly, is it possible to get back to the old town from the new town late at night? Like is there last tram/bus time? Thank you very very much for taking the time and effort to respond, I do really appreciate it! more

Resolved Question: Moving To Turkey To Teach English...?

Im excited to be going at the end of the summer, and am leaning towards going to the south, like Antalya or Iskenderun, but would certainly go to Izmir, Ephesus or Istanbul. Its going to be a very difficult decision. Im a young 38 yo man, could probably even pass for Turkish. (usually Greek, Israeli, Arab, Italian blah blah) I want to be able to have fun and meet people, but also be somewhere historical. Which I guess is difficult not to. LOL Also, Im a Jew, and know that there arent many in Turkey anymore, but its very tolerant. Will anyone really care if they see my star of David necklace in my shirt, or on the beach? Im sure not, but Im curious what real people think. Also, how do people feel about tattoos there? I dont want to break any taboos. The only other Islamic country Ive been to is Morocco, and I didnt go to the beach! I have a few tattoos, nothing obscene or huge. Pretty undertated, but noticeable. Thank u!thank u Eda. I was sure there wouldnt be a big deal. I know Turkey is secular, the religion thing was more of a second thought. Im not all that concerend about it. Im just a little nrevous about moving so far from home, but Ive lived in other countries before, well traveled, speak french and I studied international relations in college, so I think Ill fit in pretty well. :) more

Resolved Question: Did the Apostle Paul appoint Apollos?

I for some reason, thought that Apollos was appointed by the Apostle Paul, but the bible says: Acts 18:24-27 (New King James Version) Ministry of Apollos 24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. Now Paul wouldn't teach somebody only half way and then let him go preach, and Apollos somehow only knew about the Baptism of John, not Jesus. So did Paul appoint Apollos?who was untrustworthy? more

Resolved Question: Is this a good argumentative speech?

I wrote this in about 7 hours and I need to know if this is a good speech or if there is anything I should change or fix. The Subject is Censorship, and I am arguing against censorship. So Please give me your honest opinion. (Sorry for my messy grammer/spelling it's 2:39.) Censorship effects us all, be it through race, religion, government party or income. Everyone in this room will be effected by censorship one way or another. There are so many types of censorship: Moral, Military, Religious, Political, Corporate and Creative just to name a few. Corporate Censorship is when media outlets intervene to stop the publishing of information that may depict their business or business associates in an adverse light. Privately owned corporations that report news also can refuse to share information that may cause loss of advertiser revenue or shareholder value which negative publicity may bring. The Telecommunications Act is a law that Canadian telecommunications common carriers like Telus, Bell Canada and Verizon are regulated. The Telecommunications act at the time was not favored by the media. Records show that there were only 12 major news stories about the Telecommunications act and a total of 19.5 minutes of air time accumulated over those stories. Much of the coverage of the new act was centered around the television content ratings and the V-chip while the considerable changes to the ownership rules of the media were almost completely ignored. Only bits and pieces of the opinions that the Critics of the legislations had were shown on air, because the legislations directly profited the media. Newspapers can actually refuse to run commentary they don’t agree with as well. Black Press owns over 95 newspapers in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and other places outside of Canada. If the owner of these newspapers disagreed with new laws that were passed that could change lives, they could not print it. That is complete corporate censorship. Religious Censorship has been an issue that has been occurring as far back as you can flip any text book. Far back in ancient times Sorcery books worth 50,000 silver were burnt by Paul’s converts at Ephesus. They have tried to completely eliminate an entire religion all together with the Holocaust! The Da Vinci Code was attacked by various religious groups, saying that Dan Brown was a Satanist and was going to hell. The movie was even banned in Samoa. Everyone knows who Harry Potter is, the FICTIONAL orphan boy that learns he is a wizard and goes to a school for wizards. Religious groups want to ban these books from being sold, and these movies from being seen. Some Catholic followers believe that Harry Potter glamorizes Wicca, a religion involving the thought that magic can be created by “Manipulating through the form of Witchcraft or Sorcery”, but at no time is the religion advertised during the books nor movies. If this is not evidence that censorship is occurring more than anyone would have thought, take a look at China. Though blocks to certain websites may not apply to different cities, and they have been lifted for certain occasions, they are still BLOCKING websites. Their most recent major website was access to The New York Times which was blocked on December 20, 2008. Most foreign websites are still available for mainland China, but a few websites such as the Chinese-language service of BBC continue to be blocked and unblocked. Regardless of the small number of blocked sites, the mere fact that the government is starting to block off sites that have no reason to disappear is enough to raise suspicion. The Golden Shield project ( Also referred too as The Great Firewall Of China ) was created and is owned by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China. It was created in 1998 and was actually used In the beginning of 2003. The Golden Shield Project’s job is to block Content on the internet. It does this by stopping IP addresses from being routed through and is made up of standard firewalls and proxy servers at the Internet gateways. The system also selectively engages in DNS poisoning when particular sites are requested. The government does not appear to be methodically examining Internet content, because it is technically impractical. The Censored Content includes but is not limited too: *Websites that are about or are related to the Falun Gong spiritual practice, which is not only internet censorship but religious as well. *News Sources that cover topics such as: Police Brutality, Freedom of Speech or Democracy *The Chinese Wikipedia which has been recently unblocked *Any major Newspaper and television media that contain information on the Taiwanese Independence. *Sites that are linked with the Dalai Lama and his involvement with the International Tibet Independence Movement If you think that China’s internet problems could never get to Canada, Think again. Resolved Question: Catholic teachings about Mary, Jesus' Mother ?

According to history, in the year 431, the Council of Ephesus adopted the term for Mary the mother of Jesus as 'Mother of God', and they advocated worship of Mary at that time. In the year 1854, Pope Pius IX proclaimed that the 'Virgin Mary' was born without sin. In the year 1950 Pope Pius XII proclaimed the assumption of the 'Virgin Mary'. Which obviously means she did not die, but went to Heaven in some mysterious way, avoiding death. These facts are well documented in Catholic writings. Non-Catholics believe Mary was a chosen vessel of God, and therefore to be highly regarded for her obedience to God in Heaven. My question is: Why did the Catholic church, in various centuries, add to its doctrine concerning Mary? And why do they worship her? Mother Angelica on EWTN says that Mary is Co-Redemptrix with the Lord Jesus. I have heard her say it many times. I would like to know WHERE is Scriptural truth for this? Is there Scriptural foundation for any of this ? THOUGHTFUL answers, please. more

Resolved Question: Were millions of Jews and Christians wrong for thinking the Prophet of Islam was described in the Bible?

For example, according to Matt 24 the son of man would come when temperatues drop and the Sun goes dark, …. However, according to the book Catastrophe, origins of the modern world by Archaeology correspondent David Keys there is scientific evidence that temperatures on earth fell for 40 years because the Sun went dark, normalizing around the year Muhammad was born. There are historical accounts of the Sun going dark during this period too: “In describing the climate in that year, Procopius wrote that "the sun gave forth its light without brightness like the moon during this whole year." Other accounts of the event say that the sun became "dim" or "dark" for upto eighteen months. Its light shone "like a feeble shadow", and people were terrified that the sun would never shine properly again. Procopius, referring to the darkened sun, later wrote that "from the time this thing happened, men were not free from war, nor pestilence nor anything leading to death." "There was a sign from the sun, the like of which had never been seen and reported before, the sun became dark and its darkness lasted for 18 months. Each day, it shone for about four hours, and still this light was only a feeble shadow.Everyone declared that the sun would never recover its full light again. " A sixth century historian and prominent church leader, John of Ephesus, wrote these words describing the app[arent] fate of our planet's star in the year 535 and 536.shadow: why does everyone incorporate Judaism into things it never got involved in? J2a1*: Click on my profile. 80% of Jewish priests (Cohanim) couldnt be the descendants of Aaron if I am not one. While I have no problems accepting what you believe, I would appreciate it, if you would return the courtesy. Secondly, it is a historical fact that millions of Jews and Christians in the Byzantine Empire converted to Islam. All I am asking you to tell me is if you think they made a mistake. Why make it about Judaism? You dont see Christians and other converting?Unger: Sorry to say, but Muhammad (Mohammad) Was never put into the Bible, or Torah. Mathew 24 is talking about the second coming of Christ, not a event. J2a1*: Apparently, millions of Jews and Christians disagreed with you.Cher: Quoting Christian scripture (NT) to Judaism isn't very convincing. J2a1*: Where am I trying to convince Judaism of something? I quoted Matt about the Sun going dark in the end of days. You say, Jews dont believe in Matthew. So are you saying you do you not know of any OT verses that speak of the Sun going dark in the end of days, such as Joel 2:10 and 3: 4, Habakkuk 3:11, Isaiah 13:10? Or are you just playing with me? In addition, are you suggesting that the Jews of the time wouldnt be wondering how Matt 24 predicted all these catastrophes if they happened simultaneously? Are you suggesting that all Jews have walked around with blinders on to what is happening around them in relation to other religions?Cher: Also anything like this would be much more convincing if you include the whole context of the Matt quote & the timeline of sun event vs. Mohammend's life. Otherwise you asking your audience to track everything down --- and they aren't going to bother. J2a1*: Yes it would be nice to include the whole context. if we were allowed to post entire books on Yahoo answers, I could do something like that. However, the format here is not conducive to that kind of communication.Cher: Your asking if people ages ago were right for converting ot Islam? 1. Word your questions more clearly. All your question asks is about modern Jews & Christians. J2: Well you might have a point. Are you saying people dont know I mean I am talking about the 7th and 8th century? Cher:2. This smacks of arrogance & annoyance. Who cares what people of a different age thought, to me today. My religon isnt' about being approached to justify someone else's. Seriously that's just lame. J2: So you dont want to help others believe what they believe at the expense of your religion lol. I dont get it. Do you think you should prevent archaeological and scientific evidence from being generated if it contradicts your religious beliefs/ dogma too? My religion is not that important to me.Cher: And since the Cohen link is for Jews, & you aren't one -- it doesn't matter if you believe your previous folks were long ago Jews. J2a1*: Maybe you can clarify what you mean. I did not claim to be a Cohen. That is a Jewish religious designation for your rabbis to define. I am speaking about the paternal ancestor of those people, who claim to be Cohens in Judaism. What I claimed is that 80% of Cohens cannot be considered father to son descendants of Aaron unless I am also considered his descendant. This is a scientific fact. It has nothing to do with Islam or how a rabbi defines a Cohen.cher: Wow all that dedicated commentary to me. I must have bothered you with my answer. J2: I actually enjoyed reading your answer and responding to the points you raised. Thanks for posting.schmo: I think I can safely say that neither Christians nor Jews believe that Mohammed is anywhere either in the Christian bible or the Jewish Torah/Tanakh. Gotta love the new twists and turns Muslim propaganda takes on a daily basis. J2a1*: You may wish to read the Question about Muhammad in the Bible on my page. It is short and quick. Then get back to me.Jaeger Kat: answer: it wasn't millions and sometimes people aren't as strong as they should be with a sword at their necks. Answer - yes, they were wrong. The time of prophets ended LONG before Mohammad for Judaism. J2: Dont want to convert you. The Arab peninsula had about 200k people living in it (men women and children). It was an inhospitable climate to say the least. Byzantium had about 15-20 million. Byzantium also had a 200k strong, well trained and equipped army. So converting millions of Jews & Christns to Islam and speaking Arabic doesnt sound very believable, unless one is also willing to believe in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy. Defense sstrategists knows invading armies need a 3:1 advantage. Arabs needed atleast 600k troops, which they could not have had. Jews & Christns accptd Mohammed because he fulfilled Isaiah 19 and Mat 24. Nobody among the Hamites has come close to uniting Assyrians and Hamites in lang. and religion & defeating the Romans.Ben Yeshua, I feel your religious views are reasonable, and you are unafraid to accept recent scientific and achaeological discoveries. You, it seems travel thru life with your eyes and ears as well as your heart, open. I wish you all the best and peace be with you- J2a1* more

Resolved Question: What should I see in Turkey?

I will be in Turkey for about 12 days in March. My current plan is to fly from Istanbul to Kayseri the day I arrive and to spend two days in Nevsehir/Goreme, then take the overnight bus to Antalya and spend the rest of the time travelling from Antalya to Fethiye to Ephesus to Izmir, then fly back to Istanbul to see the city. I know it will be cold at the beach, but I would like to go anyway for at least a short while... Is there anything I am missing or anything I should skip? Should I go to Adana or to the East instead of spending so much time on the coast? Also, I generally have no problem wandering around alone, but I really don't speak any Turkish at all, so that could be a problem, though I will learn some phrases before I go! Anyway, any suggestions? Thanks a lot!P.S., I am more interested in seeing the architecture, nature, and culture than in partying, if that helps. more

Resolved Question: Author of Book of Revelation: John? Peter? Paul?

Many say John, Few say Peter; But I say it's Paul, as it's sign-ified by Paul's own hand, with his token. Hint: - Revelation occurs in John's writings 0 times. - Revelation occurs in Peter's writings 1 time. - Revelation occurs in Paul's writings 10 times. Hint: - John signs none of his writings - Peter signs none of his writings - Paul sign-ifies (signs) all of his epistles (noted thrice) Hint: Revelation meaning: Uncovering, Disclosure. Official Title: The Revelation(Uncovering) of St John The Divine Allegory: Uncovering of a saint named John thought to be divine, who turned back to what was calling from behind him: the law. Hint: 1st verse reveals it's sent "unto John", not written by John. Eg: "he sent and signified [it] by his angel unto his servant John". Hint: Gospel According to John is the only "verily verily" account, wherein John's presumed more beloved, but only according to John; and wherein 2 resurrections... the 2nd notably being of the damned. Hint: last verse is the "token" of Paul written by his own hand: The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ WITH YOU ALL. AMEN. (Rev 22:21 compared to conclusion of 14 other Pauline Epistles) Hint: Paul notes, about all of his epistles, in 2Thessalonians 3: "The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all. Amen." Hint: Peter notes, in 2Peter 3, that he read all of Paul's Epistles; and allegorically makes note of Revelation 20's 1000 yrs = 1 day; and allegorically notes John is a dog turned to his own vomit: law. Hint: Paul (not John nor Peter) is faithful steward of mysteries of God; And Revelation seems to remain a 'mystery' to many who read such. Hint: Early(66)/Late(95) date debate now favors earlier date of 66AD; Since Peter & Paul died aprox 67AD; and John's grave is in Ephesus. Hint: Peter (called Satan in Mt 16:23) is jailed & chained in Acts 12:4, for 1 day called Easter: a 1000 yr day mentioned in 2Pet 3:8... Rev 20, then released to deceive the nations as the first pope (aka: Cephas); As Peter goes underground as a Roman fugitive, later surfaces in Italy. Which things are an allegory: Galatians 4, and mystery (x20) to solve. Hint: John did write to Asian church leaders, like Gaius (mentioned as one of the seven who accompanied Paul into Asia to establish churches: Acts 20:4), as recorded for us in 3John (written to Gaius); But it's written with flattery to subvert the asian churches against Paul. So Paul writes Revelation as a final exam of the Bible & spoof on John. Hint: John did subvert the asian churches, as popish Peter's bishop over said churches from Ephesus; Which sorely depressed Timothy: Paul's bishop over said churches from Ephesus. But after two Pauline writings unto Timothy to encourage him in grace will have mercy which multiplies peace, we find mention that Timothy is "set at liberty" from hhis Johnny Law depression: Hebrews 13:23... Hebrews being written To The Hebrews, specifically to James, Peter, John (who stirred up the Hebrews against Rome, with John later causing a million Jews to die, 2 million to be taken captive, in the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD). Paul identifies (names) James, Cephas(Peter), John as those who bewitched the churches of Galatia (formerly called Asia) with "another gospel": their law, which wasn't 'good news'. Resolved Question: Can someone tell me where Jesus says to submit to your husband?

I know about Ephesians 5:22 this was a letter to the church in Ephesus. I would like to know where is it in the bible as a commandment from Jesus. I respect and love my husband but his coworker who is a Christian also is telling him about this submit thing. He also told my husband about the "women are not suppose to speak in church" I already have the answer for that from some of you. that was also a letter sent to a church from Paul .thank you in advance for helping our spiritual growth. 1 Corinthians is a letter to the church in Corinth. thank you for taking the time out to answer.Thank you all. that is what i figured but some men use those words to control. I love my husband as Christ loves the church so therefore it doesn't feel like submitting. But let him say "submit" to me and oh boy!!lol.Titus is also a letter from Paul to the church in Titus. more

Resolved Question: Christians, know any apologetics for this?

I came across a thesis recently about Paul, which I'll copy and paste a section here and tell me what you think cuz this has been bothering me since yesterday: Now, look at what was said to the church that we know Paul had been involved in... Ephesus. Among the things that Yahshua commended the Ephesian church for doing right, is this quote: "I know your works, your labor, and your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars." Rev. 2:2 Yes. I have no doubts Yahshua was referring to Paul and his companions, and that his claim of apostleship, as well as his doctrine, were false! Hang in there and consider all the facts with me for a minute. Here are four of them... with the silver bullet coming shortly after. 1. Paul's doctrine on the foreknowledge of God is not only groundless (because he had to abuse Scripture to support it), it is blasphemous, because it outright accuses God of unrighteousness. (See previous chapters) 2. We have record of Paul claiming to be an apostle to the Ephesians. "Paul, an apostle of Yahshua by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus," Ephesians 1:1 3. We have no record of anyone else claiming to be an apostle to anyone anywhere, not even to the Ephesians. 4. Paul and his doctrine had troubles being accepted in Ephesus. "And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the things of the kingdom of God. But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the way before the multitude..." Acts 19:8,9 Remember, this is recorded from Luke’s point of view and he believed Paul's doctrine was "the Way". Notice that those who rejected Paul are men of the synagogue and not atheists or pagans. If these men had stood up in front of the synagogue and said, "Paul's doctrine is flawed. He is a false apostle, and a liar", Luke would no doubt have seen this as "speaking evil of the Way". If these four reasons are not enough to seriously call into question Paul's status as an apostle there is one more. It is a most interesting quote from Paul's own pen that finally seals the fate of his supposed apostleship. It comes from his second letter to Timothy, written during the same Neronian persecution in which John was given the Revelation. This letter is believed by many scholars to contain the last recorded words of Paul. Here he makes a short statement of lament that seems to have gone unnoticed... the implications of which are devastating to Paul if one is able to hear everything that is being said. Paul makes this statement to Timothy. "This you know, that all those in Asia have turned away from me." 2Timothy 1:15 Asia! All of them! Rejecting Paul! And when he says, "This you know", it sounds like this must have been relatively common knowledge at that time. Asia! The very place that Yahshua told John to write, where his seven churches were! And they were alive, and obviously had been established for some time. Paul did not say that Asia had rejected Yahshua. Obviously they hadn't rejected Yahshua if there were thriving churches there that Yahshua wanted to address through John. Instead Paul said that all Asia had rejected him personally! This is also corroborated in the book of Acts where men from Asia accuse Paul of teaching against the Law, and bringing an Ephesian friend into the temple. And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him. crying out, "Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, the Law, and this place: and furthermore he also brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place." (For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) Acts 21:27-29 Try to grasp the profound significance of all this. Here we have in the book of Revelation the words of Yahshua commending the Ephesian church for rejecting someone who claimed to be his apostle, while Paul is the only person other than the twelve original apostles to have claimed to be an apostle... and we know he has made this very claim to this same Ephesian church. At the same time, Paul laments himself of the fact that he has been rejected by them! How could it NOT be Paul and his associates that Yahshua had commended the Ephesian church for rejecting? Could it be much more obvious? Here are the facts, paraphrased, one more time. Paul to the Ephesians: "I am an apostle of Yahshua" The Ephesians to Paul: "No you're not." Yahshua to the Ephesians: "Well done!" http://www.judaismvschristianity.com/paulthe.htm *This thesis was written by a Christian, incase the link title is misleading. You should check out the link. The guy who wrote it covered everything you brought up and is still a Jesus-believing Christian. I don't know if rejecting Paul makes all the NT ruined. It seems to suggest that rejecting Paul means God isn't controlling all men's will like Paul teaches. And it also means...the Bible (other than God's words) might be fallible. God promised to protect "HIS WORDS", but Paul teaches "All scripture is God-breathed." So, is all scripture scripture because Paul says so? Or all of God's words protected because God says so? This thesis made such a strong case, I don't know if it's logical to believe what Paul tells us to believe.Jed: Read the section of the thesis on Peter vouching for Paul. Upon closer inspection, Peter doesn't say what we assume he says. Also, the guy includes a prophecy from Jesus about Peter regardging this. And he also explains prophecy (God's seeming 'foreknowledge') logically as well.seventy: thanks for the encouraging words, and your willingness to investigate. I will take your advice, thanks. :)syntyche: Read the thesis. He makes good arguments against the timelines as well. One other thing about Paul's visitation from Jesus is he got it in the desert. What did Jesus say about people who claim they saw him in the desert? more

Resolved Question: In believing the whole Bible, just exactly how does Revelation 2:4-5 fit into your grand scheme of ?

"once saved, always saved"? Who was it that said these words? Yes, these verses were addressed to the church in Ephesus, but can you honestly say that it doesn't apply today as well? Rev. 2:4-5 4) Yet I hold this against you: you have forsaken your first love. 5) Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. This is clearly pertaining to Christians who have found a comfort zone in believing "once saved, always saved". What about those who can't withstand the tortures of the Antichrist and, at the last minute, renounce their faith believing that their lives will be spared. Or, were Jesus' words in vain when He said "he who stands firm to the end will be saved"?Before you block me or remove me from your contacts, please visit my profile. more

Resolved Question: What do YOU think of this REASONING from the BIBLE? Do you agree or disagree? What do YOU think?

1 Corinthians 15: 14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised....17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins....19If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.... 32If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? Resolved Question: Have you received the Holy Ghost sinced you believed?

Many Christians have never heard about the baptism of the Holy Ghost that is promised to them [Acts 2:39]Many have been taught the moment you "believe" on Jesus or when your water baptized you "automatically"receive the Spirit of God..We have some believers in scripture who never heard about..they were even water baptized but STILL DID NOT have the Holy Ghost! Acts 19:1-6-While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers. 2 “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 “Then what baptism did you experience?” he asked. And they replied, “The baptism of John.” 4 Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.” 5 As soon as they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied Jesus said in John 3:8-The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. [So is everyone] who is born of the Spirit." Jesus said..there is a sound made when your Born of the Spirit Like to discuss things like this? come join us www.onlythescriptures.org more

Resolved Question: Icmeler and around...?

I'm going on holiday with my family next month to Icmeler and I'd like some information because I'm afraid I know very little about Turkey. My mum wants to go to Ephesus, would that be possible as a day trip? How far is it from Icmeler? How much would the journey cost? How much would seeing Ephesus cost? What time is the latest we could visit? My brother wants to see the tombs in the rocks, I'm sorry I don't know where that is though, is it Dalyan? How far away is that from Icmeler? How much would that cost? Please answer any of these questions or give some other information you think might be interesting or useful for me! I don't expect I'll get many answers so thank you if you do take the time to respond! more
