History Tours Questions asked

Open Question: Things to do in Hollywood for some MAJOR film buffs!?

Hey everybody, Myself and a few of my buddies from a film school in Canada are looking to hit up a Hollywood trip, this May. We're huge movie lovers and have an avid interest in Hollywood and it's history. We plan to go to Universal Studios and the Warner Bros. and Paramount back lot tours, as well as the Hollywood Museum and The Tonight Show. We're also going to see some of the local sites (Grauman's Chinese Theatre, The Grove, etc.) but have a single day dead spot in our schedule, before we head off to Disneyland. What are some really fun, film/Hollywood-related things we might be able to do on that day? more

Open Question: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE BEGINNING OF MY STORY?

CHAPTER 1: In the ancient and historical city of Washington DC, on a certain summer day, I was rolled top and bottom in mud in an attempt to get rid of my chasers. Ironically, on that very same day, I was crowned the Queen of Royal States Dominion. It’s amazing how much your life can change in one day. I was never supposed to be queen. I was not part of the Abraxas Line of Succession. I was just another tourist visiting my country’s capital snapping pictures of everything in sight. The happy banners hung everywhere, waving from every roof top, were not in my honor but Princess Alexandria’s, the woman who was to become queen. The banners said ‘Long Live Queen Alexandria!’ They did not say ‘Long Live Queen Lela!’ All the talk that week had been about Princess Alexandria and her coronation minus the terrible tragedy that led to it. But there was no talk of the teenage girl who had come to Washington DC with her class in the ‘Kids of the Future’ program to learn about her nation’s history. How did this happen? Surprisingly, it’s pretty simple but according to the person who is publishing this, a memoir has to be longer than a page, so I have to fill you in all the details instead of giving you the simple truth. I’ll try to write as much as I can but be forewarned. Congress, my group of advisors, are arranging a meeting which is to begin in a few hours to discuss this ‘unfortunate mishap’ but I’ll write as much as possible from now till then. The dude leading the tour was called Mr. Berkeley. He walked up front, guiding us through the hallways congested with Secret Service agents, portraits of past presidents, and huge marble busts of monarchs in the Abraxas dynasty. I didn’t know how the ‘Kids of the Future’ director, Mr. Jackson, managed to pull this off. I mean, how many people can get a private tour of the Capitol Palace by one simple phone call that didn’t just go to the parts you see in the public tour, but in the private family parts you never see, except maybe on TV, and even then it’s just some director’s idea of how the family’s private quarters look, and not the real thing? It blew my mind. The décor looked quaint, even more quaint than when the Royal States Dominion was the United States of America. It looked, if you asked me, like something when the United States of America was first founded about fifteen hundred years back. I guess the Abraxas monarchs liked to keep things traditional even though they were memories of the broken government. He gathered us into a large open bedroom, that had an arched ceiling. I recognized it from the holographs of the Capitol Palace I had studied before I came here. It was the bedroom of James Abraxas, the first monarch in the Abraxas dynasty as well as the person who restored North America, establishing the Kingdom of the Royal States Dominion. He started telling us the history of the room which I already knew by heart so I inserted a small cylinder into each of my ears and opened my wrist computer, putting it on screen setting so Mr. Jackson wouldn’t see the holographic proof that I wasn’t paying an inkling of attention. I surfed through the long list of songs, selecting ‘Born For This’ by Paramore. I was a big fan of the classics. Even though the quality of the recording was awful back when Paramore was a band, I feel that their songs can still relate to me even if I am three hundred years after them. I could see my friend, Jade, turn every now and then and by the way my head is bent down so they are staring at my bright blue converse (It still surprises me that fashion hasn’t changed at all in the past three-hundred-something years.) with my hands tucked into to the pockets of my faded black skinny jeans, she knows that I’m listening to the amazing musical talents of Paramore- according to me, not her. She smiles at me mischievously and catching Mr. Jackson’s prize winning glare, she turns her attention back to our tour guide. At that very moment, Prince William, King George Washington Abraxas’ grandson, enters the room. All of us jump in shock. To see a royal who might someday rule our country in person is equal to well, by my standards, meeting with Paramore. Prince William is seventeen years old, a year older than me. He has shiny dark brown hair that ends just below his ears and curves in all different directions, making his cheek bones more noticeable and his bright blue eyes more prominent than before. I can’t help but think that he is so incredibly handsome even though I know that I’m never going to be the Cinderella who always gets her prince for a variety of reasons. One, I know that the Prince is probably arrogant due all the other girls who fall all over him and I refuse to be like that. Two, even if the prince isn’t arrogant and haughty and everything else in a person that totally pisses me off, he has too much of a public life while I am in the Covert Operations portion of the ‘Kids of the Future’ program and everyteverything else in a person that totally pisses me off, he has too much of a public life while I am in the Covert Operations portion of the ‘Kids of the Future’ program and everything I do is strictly confidential. Three, William is such a boring name. He seems a little surprised to see us here- I guess there were no public tours today- but he recovers quickly and raises his hand in greeting. We return with a smile and a ‘Your Highness.’ We stand their awkwardly in complete silence. My earpiece’s volume which was barely noticeable before on account of Mr. Berkeley talking but now, everyone within ten yards can hear the music blasting from my ears. Mr. Jackson turns to glare at me and everyone giggles. Mr. Jackson’s glares are extremely hilarious when they aren’t pointed at you. Under Mr. Jackson’s steel gaze, I slowly reach up and take out the nanotechnology from my ears, dropping it into his open palm. “I’m sorry,” I said, except it sounds more like a question than apology.“No, you’re not,” said Mr. Jackson. He beckons to the double doors. “Out. Now. We need to talk.” .I know its wrong to but I think that Mr. Jackson’s lectures and tantrums are so hilarious. I hold my breath and follow Mr. Jackson out of the room. The prince is staring at me curiously probably because I’m grinning from ear to ear, recalling all of Mr. Jackson’s tantrums in the past and trying very, very hard not to burst into laughter right there. Mr. Jackson didn’t even bother to close the door behind us. It was like he wanted me to be publicly humiliated. My grin widened at the thought, a hint of my insanity. “You are giving us problems, missy,” he said. That was all he’d managed because a Secret Service man was running toward us. “Tags!” He ordered. We showed him the pass we had been given. He scanned it and then asked, “Have you seen Prince William?” “Right here.” said the prince, appearing at the door. The Secret Service man looked relieved. “Your Highness, please follow meSomething has happened.” The prince looked worried and bid our whole group a formal farewell before proceeding toward the Oval Office. I looked around and noticed Secret Service men everywhere, talking into their throat mikes, and all running toward the Oval Office. The Oval Office. The King’s work room. Suddenly, I understood. King James Abraxas IV was dead. END OF PART 1 OF CHAPTER 1 more

Resolved Question: Please, somebody explain this crazy dream.....?

I came back from P.E, (I have it the last period of the day) and the locker room was filled with people. I just figured people were getting ready for sports practice early, so I continued to change out of my gym clothes. Since there were a bunch of my friends in the locker room, I began to talk to them. I take Spanish as my foreign language so we were talking about an upcoming project that was due after our February Break (just like spring break) . I was given a directions sheet, and I realized I either hadn't gotten it, or I didn't read it close enough: I had like 3 extra separate projects that were all gonna be graded together. One of them including a short story in French that would "introduce our Spanish class to Britain and Australia better." Hmm, that makes total sense since I take Spanish and the curriculum doesn't include history of exploration. I was all changed, so I began to walk back from the gym center back to the high school. I looked down at my clothes, and they were my gym clothes again! So I turned around to go change into my street clothes, figuring maybe I had accidentally changed back into my gym clothes. Then for some reason, someone was projecting their French Presentation on the wall of the locker room. So I changed again into my normal clothes and headed back to the high school. As I entered the building, I looked into our grades hallway and saw all our grade leaders up on these flat podiums/columns and they were holding cakes and desserts of some sort. The hallway was incredibly crowded with students from our grade. I made my way to my locker and looked down at my clothes--THEY HAD CHANGED AGAIN, into a weird pair of Camo shorts and a green t-shirt. Suddenly, the grade leaders then yelled: "Chicken Fry Party!!" Members of our grade then came around with different kinds of desserts. One of my friends came over and asked if I wanted a 'Febreeze Oreo Cookie'. I was like "What is it?" He said "Its a an Oreo cookie filled with a mixture of water and Febreeze." I gave him a weird look and continued to walk down the hallway. I looked down to my clothes and they had changed again. This time the pants stayed the same but a large crooked smiley face was on my shirt. I began to freak out a little, and I saw one of my friends so I went up to her and explained my situation. Then my shirt changed again--it was green but in white lettering read 'TAMPONS'. I quickly covered the words on my shirt.... She was no help so I went back to my locker to try and remember my homework so I could pack my bag and head over to lacrosse practice. My mind went blank. I asked a friend what our Biology homework was and she was like "you know, the PowerPoint?". This was no help. As I walked back from my locker I noticed my shirt had changed to a white t-shirt and read "totally on tour in Tahiti". I've never been to Tahiti... But I yelled across the hall: "I guess I had fun in Tahiti!" I turned to my locker to try and remember my biology homework.............and then I woke up, remembering I was on February Break. Here's the weird part. I had started to take off my shirt in my sleep, as though I wanted it to stop changing appearances. I had one sleeve on and one sleeve off. more

Voting Question: What do you think of my Film reveiw so far?

Hi this is for my homework and I decided to write a film reveiw on Michael Jacksons This Is It. It's not finished yet but could you give your opinions on it? :) here it is : Michael Jackson's This Is It (PG) This american documentry/concert film is perfect for all those fans out there that thirst to know more about Michael since his death in June. This 111 minute film shows Behind-the-scenes footage as Michael and producers prepare for the big 'This is it' comeback tour! The first day it got released, a massive $20 million was earned in the US, breaking records! Now that is a Thriller! The film is a tribute to him and at the beginning it states that the film is intended 'For the fans'. Directed by Kenny Ortega, most famous as the director of the famous Disney film High School Musical 1, 2 and 3 and concert tours such as, Cheetah Girls- One World tour, Miley Cyrus- Best of both worlds tour aswell as other famous movies, this movie is by far the greatest one yet! This Is It really is something! It shows performances, music, dancers and even missed cues, wrong notes, and Michael even forgets some lyrics, but it all forms together to make one great film. There is a lot of cast including Michael himself who starred in various movies such as 'Moonwalker', 'Men in Black 2', 'Miss Castaway' and This Is It. Travis payne who was on of the two chorogrophers who has chorographed Dangerous World Tour, HIStory World Tour aswell as the famous Disney series 'The suite life of Zac and Cody. Orianthi Panagaris who was Michael's guitarists now has 2 single albumns released and is famous in Australia for being his gutarists, she has not starred in any other films or concerts yet. Singers include Judith Hill, singer of the Michael Jackson Trubute 'I will Always be Missing you', Dorian Holley, Darryl Phinnessee, Ken Stacey more

Resolved Question: Is Temple University a dangerous school?

Hello! I am 18 years old, and currently a student of Upper Darby High School. Next year I plan on going to Temple University to become a history teacher. Recently, people have been telling me how dangerous Temple is, but I doubt most of these people have even BEEN there. I have been on several tours of the school and have a few friends who go there, who all assure me it's perfectly safe. Being a student at Upper Darby, which doesn't have a good reputation around here, though I can't see why, I understand what it's like for a school to be misunderstood by closed minded people. When I was on Temple's campus I felt absolutely safe, considering the massive force of police officers on campus, stadium lighting, surveillance cameras, and emergency call buttons. In fact I wasn't concerned about my safety there at all, until randomly this evening. I live in what is considered a rough neighborhood, and have been into the city countless times throughout my life, but not usually North Philly. Could someone tell me what they think of the safety at Temple University please, and possibly provide crime statistics? Thank you very much! more

Resolved Question: Do I have any chance of getting into NYU?

I'm a junior atm. I just toured it today and it's everything I could ever want from a college. I have a 98 overall grade, I think for all 3 years of high school actually. freshman year I was only involved in psychology club and I did maybe like 2 hours of community service that year for my sister's church. sophomore year I joined FBLA, interact, model un, and I was secretary of psych. I did indoor track, too. I also got 2nd place in desktop publishing for statewide competition for FBLA...and I did summer theatre that summer. this year, I'm in FBLA, model un, the school newspaper I'm VP of psych, I'm in drama club and I got a part in both the fall play and I our spring musical production of beauty and the beast (mrs. potts, so that's a supporting role) next year I'm planning on becoming an officer for FBLA, drama club, possibly model un? and I'll also still be VP for psych club. and I'll be doing summer theatre as well. I haven't taken an official SAT yet, but I took a past version in my SAT prep course and got 670 in writing, 640 in reading, and a 570 in math, with a total of 1880. I've been in honors english since freshman year, and I've had my schedule packed (no lunch since middle school!) I took 2 business classes which got me some college credit through a local community college (though I'm sure that means nothing), I'm in concert choir, was in freshman chorus, and took chorus all throughout middle school. I'm also a year ahead in math; I'm in precalc as a junior, though it's not honors. I'm in the highest level I can be in for each class except for math. it's not my strong suit. I didn't take any AP classes this year, because the only ones offered were in science (which is also not my strong suit) and AP US history...which I did take but then made me realize I have no interest in american history and I dropped down to level 3 vs level 4/honors/AP. that doesn't show up on my transcript though. I also switched from french (I got 3 years including middle school) to spanish, which I'll have 3 years of at the end of high school. next year I'm taking AP politics and government, AP psych, AP english, anatomy and physiology, a half year course of prob and stats (only a level 2, though...), concert choir, and spanish. I think I'll be in national honor society, too, though I'm not sure yet. they haven't selected juniors yet. what says you, yahoo answers? more

Voting Question: From Middle School to High School?

Okay, I am transitioning from Da Vinci Arts Middle School to High School(unsure of which one) next year and I am wanting to go to Franklin if I can get into some really good art classes, such as Ceramics, Drawing, etc. but there is also Trillium Charter School which is really close to my house, its K-12, a very small school which will help students(like me) focus better, has African Drumming(which I absolutely LOVE) and a handful of other things that make it very similar to Da Vinci but I can't decide on one. Franklin is supposed to be the only High School marked as Outstanding but my mother is skeptical because of my brothers and sisters history there. Alot of kids I have heard about, go to Franklin and they start doing drugs, drinking, stealing, etc. but I toured it today and it sounds like a REALLY good school but so does the other one. The thing is, my mother is not completely on board with me wanting to go to franklin(because of the reasons above) but I think Franklin offers a better education. Does anyone know of these schools? If so, do you have your own personal opinion of which is better? more

Resolved Question: I want to Travel Spain, any help would be awesome.?

I'm going back to high school for an extra semester, and will therefore have about three to six months before I hit the books in University. I love to travel, and I love History so I somehow stumbled across the idea of going to Spain. Before I say anything else, keep in mind that I know some Spanish, but not a lot, and I want to see all the hot spots. I know I'm going to Valencia and Barcelona, but that's it. So- here are my question(s). What cities do you think I should hit? What specific things/landmarks do you think I should see? Do you know any good hotels or travel agencies that have any sort of low priced or good tours in the cities etc. I'm looking to do it in the most least possible amount of money, but price isn't as important as what I will get to see. Thanks for anyone's help and I hope to hear from you soon. more

Resolved Question: HELP ME FIND TOUR GROUPS THAT CATER FOR OVER 35'S?

My parents always dreamed of doing a Contiki tour, but they are in their late 40's now. Is there any travel companies like Contiki that cater for travellers that are over 35 years old? I want to help them find something that will give them an amazing experience and something that does not shield them from the reality of the destinations like the companies such as Trafalgar do. We are from Australia and they would love to go anywhere worldwide, I think they'd love something with a bit of history like Greece, Rome, Turkey etc. They have already been to Egypt 4 times. Resolved Question: did you know this is the truth about that 'racist australian KFC ad'?

the ad was made to coincide with the west indies cricket team touring australia. so the white australian guy is feeling awkward because he's with a bunch of fans of the opposing team and offers KFC as a peace offering because, well, its a KFC ad. if anyone's racist it's the people being outraged because they seem to be unaware that not all black people are african. let alone african-american. those black guys were west indians so the stereotype doesnt apply, and we dont have that stereotype here anyway. americans think their history is more important than anyone elses, so if it's offensive there, it's offensive everywhere. wrong! more

Resolved Question: Is this you experience of going to the gym...?

My Sister sent me this... A WOMAN'S WEEK AT THE GYM If you read this without laughing out loud, there is something wrong with you.. This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine Dear Diary, For my birthday this year, I purchased a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Johan, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. Friends seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress. ________________________________ MONDAY: Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Johan waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god-- with blond hair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!! Johan gave me a tour and showed me the machines.. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring! Johan was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!! ________________________________ TUESDAY: I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Johan made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It's a whole new life for me. _______________________________ WEDNESDAY: The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot. Johan was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Johan put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Johan told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other shit too. _______________________________ THURSDAY: Asshole was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late-- it took me that long to tie my shoes. He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny bitch to find me. Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine-- which I sank. _________________________________ FRIDAY: I hate that bastard Johan more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic, little aerobics instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it. Johan wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director? ________________________________ SATURDAY: Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.. ________________________________ SUNDAY: I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun-- like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!! more

Resolved Question: Why did Roosevelt recognize the Vichy government and the collaborating French, who were...?

...responsible for GI deaths?Since returning from Paris and the ParisWalks Tours of the French REsistance, I have been reading much history of that time and Jean Moulin, the French hero. It's amazing that France has been able to hold together, they had so many French at each other's throats during the Revolution as well as during WWII.But then I see, Roosevelt had recognized the Vichy government, which had put a death sentence on DeGaulle's head, leader of the Free French. Why, when the Vichy collaborationists' actions lead to the deaths of many of our own GIs and undercover agents? more

Resolved Question: most important dates and events in US history?

okay, so LONG STORY-btw, yesterday our junior class went to a nearby junior college for college day. one of our rival schools were there, and a friend of mine got into a serious fight with some guy from the other school, and one of the teachers that went on the trip is EXTREMELY mad at the rest of us, for "not paying attention to the slideshow presentation" (bull) or the campus tour (also bull). so today in class, her exact words were "for the rest of the year, im going to make this class a living hell", and students from the same class but different periods, said that she said that she's never been so embarressed by our school, she's embaressed to say she works at our school, and that if she had a job opening at another school, she'd take it. wtc. generally, everyday she gives us a packet of notes, and she has a powerpoint over them. she'd have blanks on our notes so we'd fill them in by the powerpoint and she'd explain each slide to us. today, she just gave us the packet and told us to copy the notes and she didnt explain anything. not only that, she literally skipped a few slides purposely. then at the end of it, she asked which ones she skipped and when everyone told her she said word for word, "oh wait, i dont care!" she's straightup gone psycho. like bad. anyways, since she's not explaining anything anymore, i need as many links and sites of us history as possible. im not failing her class, just because she's crazy. she basically almost literally gave up on teaching us anymore. more

Resolved Question: Given the success Leg-spinners touring NZ...?

...and that's not just Warne but Kumble, Chandresakar, Mushtaq Ahmed and even Paul Strang.... ...who agrees that it's at least a shame NZ hasn't produced any leggies in 50 years. One of the greatest Legspinners in history Clarence Grimmet was a Wellingtonian. The country has great conditions to assist the all-important flight of legspin, with Wellington's breeze and the humidity in Auckland and Hamilton. Wouldn't it make sense for NZ cricket to try and develop some leg-spinners? I mean there's been some success with swing bowlers like Collinge and Chris Martin (when he was in form - South African tour 2003-4). And yet they don't shy from developing off-spinners despite the fact off-spin relies more on turning wickets which NZ isn't so blessed with. I personally feel they're overlooking something. Any thoughts? anyone agree or disagree? more

Resolved Question: Liverpool is opening a new stadium?

Whattt? I know its crazy right? Another Brain-less move made by Liverpool's American Owners, Anyways I found out about the new Stadium from Liverpool's website, currently down on maintenance, as it hasn't been updated in nearly 20 years. The new Stadium will be called Stanley Park and heres some of the new facilities... New Facilities to open at Liverpool's new ground: I found this on the Liverpool website. "Rafa Benitez Food Court" - Season ticket holders get free buffets before games, courtesy of Rafa, as well as the Doughnut Train that passes right through the middle of the pitch during half time, supporters are encouraged to take no less then 2 dozen doughnuts at a time, the same as what Rafa would do. "Lucas Leiva Rehabilitation Centre" - The newest facility to open at "Stanfield Park". The perfect spot for talentless, heartless, players who play with no spirit to come, relax and recuperate from their "injuries" as they call them. "Fernando Torres Shrine" - This will be at the front of the entrance, donations will be accepted to fund the " Save our Torres Campaign" to keep Fernando Torres at Liverpool, no matter how BAD we do this season. "The Steven Gerrard Hooligan Stands" Supporters with the same amount of brain cells as their "hero" can come watch the match with extra padded seats as well as the newest technology cup holders, for their Carlsberg beers. After which supporters are urged to go down to their nearest pub or disco, and physically assault the DJ. "The Jaime Carragher Masterbation Centre" - Men who have been left by their wives for an Everton supporter, or just can't "get any" can come here, free of charge, and let go some "steam". The best part is the Liverpool Players frequently make stopovers here before games to relieve themselves, as well as lend a "helping hand" to anyone needing assistance. "The Rafa Gates" - Newly opened along with the rest of the Stadium. Supporters, mainly obese or drunken supporters can pass through the gates, or anyone who has a beer belly like Rafa (counts for all liverpool supporters pretty much) at a 25% discount. " Fábio Aurélio Massage Parlor " Due to the players contract, the Player has had to work 2 jobs just to make ends meet. Mainly because his name is Fabio, the Fabio Aurelio massage parlor is for those supporters who have a really bad hangover before games (actually that counts for all of them) Fernando Torres, as well as Ryan Babel Frequently offer extra service for free. "The Pepe Reina Head Waxing Salon" - Balding supporters can come here courtesy of the Keeper, and get a complementary "Head Wax" absolutely free of charge. "Holy Trinity Monument" - Supporters can pay there respects to the 3 players (Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, and Pepe Reina) who consistently "keep the club afloat" "The Alberto Aquilani Tour Guides" Along with the crock injured players, headed by everyones favorite "Flop of the Year" Can come here and be toured around the grounds as well as be privileged enough to see "Liverpool's Ancient History" In the club Museum. more

Voting Question: Do I use a lot of description here? If so, how would I go about minimizing it? (story?

It’s everywhere, adverts for disposable shoes, eco-friendly motor scooters, reduced CO2 emission sports vehicles, reusable toilet paper and Nike. When you do anything public, you do it on ad space. You walk on linoleum, advertising the latest must-have gadgetry from Sony or the latest marketable, mediocre talented Disney starlet’s upcoming Coca-Cola World Tour, in the public bathrooms. The public bathroom is where the consumer is more vulnerable, whether the consumer has to sit down or stand up, because visual stimulation distractions relaxes you muscles and preoccupies your time being wasted… wasting. Men stare straight ahead (as to not be caught admiring their fellow urinal compadre) and stare straight into the asshole of capitalism. Most of the public bathrooms are privately owned by Kohler in the Pacific Northwest and they sell their ad space to every corporations from Apple to Walt Disney, the Corporations no longer worry about markets and target-audiences because the main objective and, arguably, the only objective is to sell, sell, sell. Advertising Agencies are a 20th century fad, whose main contribution to the world of Corporation was to desensitize Consumers enough that advertising was an extension of human decision making. Everything looks like a kaleidoscope of Consumer-friendly colours and literature. The entire world is trying to hawk brands at you and, unfortunately fortunately for Consumers, you buy, buy, buy. Every day, brands are making their ways into the dictionary; detergent was forced to give it’s meaning to Tide, toilet paper bullied to give it’s meaning to Charmin, tissue was blown out of the nose of the nose of the individual into a Kleenex, instant noodles were micro waved Ramen, every day brands become neologistic insurrections. University campuses and Primary playgrounds are corporate jam sessions; where everything from the benches to the monkey bars are logo’d. Caterpillar Monkey Bars and benches are floosies when it comes to ad space. The wallpaper in this bathroom and, in fact, schools, office buildings, convenient stores are Procter & Gamble owned. All brands sell ad space to brands and we’re caught in the crosshairs of these kissing cousins. Ads on top of ads on top of ads on top of humanity. We, no longer have quarrels about religion, life, love, friendship or sex but where you can find the best deal on Tide Brand tide or some brand or other. The way technology crept into your day to day life, advertising has accomplished with technology taking a supporting role and billed as Medium of Communications. Advertising was the tortoise in a race between Any Other Form of Mind Control vs. Avaricious Wants, Greed and Commodities. Religion only appeared to be winning. Advertising has taken over our life, one medium of communication at a time. At present time, there is a bidding war between Coca- Cola and McDonald’s where the item being auctioned off is United States of (insert brand name here). It’s all very simple, people just got tired of choosing and with super brands taking out all of it’s competition our choices became severely limited. Brands decided to cash in on our limitations by buying more ad space and buying out everything from education to recreation or is it procreation? Since, weddings were being sponsored by some brand or another. And Corporations buying out children’s futures by paying the parents of the child thousands of dollars if they named the child Pepsi or Apple and the most common boy name in 2041 was the Nike swoosh. It started with television, we all were desensitized and nobody/nothing stepped into to rub us with lubricate us with original ideas because in a brand world even respectable educational programming was cramming the latest everything down your metaphysical gullet with sporadic and random pop ups during History programmes of the Third Reich of McDonald’s sponsoring the programme you are currently watching. With virtually everyone in the “civilized” world desentised to megalo-branding, brands started to sensitize Consumers with whatever it was they were hawking at the beginning of this take over. Earth has been lowered in rank to share holder. You can also buy your shares of rain forests, woodlands, deserts and, most profitable in 2037-41, Alaskan wilderness. The way people use to be able to have a tree planted in their name, they have Kohler water fountains in the Mojave Desert with “Tom and Linda’s Kohler Water Fountain for a Better Tomorrow” written on the side… and the sad thing is that many took this sham as similar to the tree fiasco. Also, do not be alarmed by the Colgate-Palmolive safe havens in the Alaskan wilderness. Alas, the water is supplied by Coca-Cola owned Dasani. more

Resolved Question: Emerson College or Kenyon College?

Hi! I'm a junior in high school and I'm trying to figure out a few options for college. Currently, Emerson and Kenyon are my top schools. I love writing, particularly fiction writing. I am in all honors classes along with AP English and AP U.S. History II, and I plan to take another AP next year. My GPA is about 3.5 or so? Though I don't know for certain - I just know all grades are 90 and above. I do a lot of extracurriculars, mainly music (I play upright bass)- the jazz band, the orchestra, another string group, a choir group, color guard in the marching band; I'm also in the recently developed Creative Writing group at our school, as well as Honor Society, Spirit Club, GSA. I don't do sports, really, though I'm considering track during the spring? And I have yet to take the SATs but I did the PSATs twice, and got a 194 - which on the SAT would be 1940. Sorry to ramble! Anyway - I was wondering about my chances of getting into Emerson or Kenyon? I live in a town outside of Boston, so I've visited Emerson already, and I do love Boston. I love that Creative Writing is offered as a major and that one can begin his or her major right away. I also love that minors are offered in American Sign Language - I've always been interested in learning. I've also heard of a semester long study abroad program, where every weekend the group visits areas in Europe and resides during the week in a castle in the Netherlands. The man giving the tour on the day I visited said that this program is essentially free, because it is included in the tuition of the school. I don't know much about that, or the truth of it, though. I like Kenyon because it looks absolutely beautiful, and I love nature. I hear very good things about the teachers and about the Writing program that exists in the school itself. The packet I received tells of a year-long study abroad program in England. I was wondering if anyone had any information about either of the schools, or if anyone would be willing to share opinions? I would really appreciate it! Good and bad facts about either school would be great as well. Anything, really! Thanks! more
