If there ARE installation discs, I would obviously download them and record at home. Open Question: Help! accidently deleted files on my DVD-RW that i dont know how to get back... PLEASE READ?

(you can skip the first part, its just background. Start reading where i put the stars) So for my church talent show, a group of us, Adults and Teens, got together and made videos to be basically spoofs of commercials that they are planning on playing periodically thru out the night. Well, the owner of the video camera didn't know how to edit and had no software for it, and since i am looking into it as a profession, I immediatly accepted the task of taking it home and editing. ******* My first problem came when he handed me a DVD-rw from his camera. I am used to mini-dvd but i assumed it would work fine with my adobe premiere elements 8 anyways. well... i got home and inserted the DVD to edit but it wouldnt work with adobe and it said the disk had to be finalized or something. I googled it and it said it wont be able to be finalized since its a DVD-rw and just change the .VRO into mpeg. i then decided i would try to move the 3 files that were on the DVD-rw into a folder on my computer. some error message popped up twice and i clicked okay without reading it thinking it didnt move and i just had to find another way to move them to my computer. when i went back into Computer then the contents of the DVD-rw it said it had nothing on it. I went and checked in the folder and all it had was the IFO file. So WHERE are my video and audio files?!?! ( the onle others on the disk were .VRO and something else) but i cant find them ANYWHERE. PLEASEEE HELP. i am most definently awarding best answer and i will give thumbs up to the others if you atleast attempt to help. We cant film again, and i have to finish editng it by friday. the talent shows saturday.... i already have software... i just dont have any idea where the files went and need to somehow "retrieve them" if you understand. Resolved Question: Help Building a New Studio?

Hello, all. I am in need of assistance in getting started on building my home studio. Of course, as you all most likely know, taking on such a task is much easier said than done, which is why I seek advice from you all. As far as my equipment goes, consider me a blank slate. I have a budget of around $5000-7000, and I would prefer a Windows setup. I was thinking something along the lines of a desktop with anywhere from 4-8 gigs of ram? I have a 1 TB external hard drive I received as a Christmas gift, so storage certainly won't be an obstacle. As for the type of music I plan to make, I will most likely need a studio made for overall/general use. I plan to do hip-hop based records, but I may choose to incorporate live elements at times (perhaps a very, very small choir or a quartet, scenarios wherein I'll need to record either vocals or instruments). Of course I plan on layering any live instrumentation I record as opposed to having them all recorded at the same time (which, if memory serves, would have an impact on the number of mic in/outs I would need on my interface). Though I have no equipment at the moment, the one piece I certainly plan on purchasing at is an MPC-1000. .: With regard to software, I am wide-open and willing to take in any recommendations you all are willing to offer. I won't be needing anything overly expensive, as it probably has plenty of features I'll never touch. Also, I would like to operate on Firewire if at all possible, but I know that because I am using a Windows setup (probably Windows 7 if I purchase a new desktop. Custom-built?) I face the possibility of compatibility issues. Any reliable, cross-platform audio I/O's out there? 24/96k? Thanks in advance, guys. I really appreciate the help! more

Resolved Question: I need a good PC laptop for traveling?

I just returned from a long trip to Thailand where the one thing I truly missed was having my own computer. At home I am spoiled by a big desktop, two large screens, loads of software, and ergonomic keyboard. So, I plan to return to Thailand and I want to take a laptop with me. I know it won't match what I have at home, but since I will be Thailand for several months I want something - practical and versatile. Most of all it needs to be durable. I will need good software for managing photos, music, videos, word processing, and spreadsheets. So, while durable is most important, being versatile is important too. I would like it to have a decent size monitor, but not too big since I will be traveling with it. I'd also include a price range but I truly have no idea what a reliable PC laptop goes for these days. As for weight - well, I'm a big guy so that's not a concern. What's your suggestion? more

Yes President Obama is letting the Bush tax cuts for people making over $250,000 a year expire but President Obama's stimulus bill had $282 billion in tax cuts. When we were children, we were constantly peppered with the question......"What do we want to be when we grow up". My strengths were in math & computers, so I become a software engineer. How about gold-diggers though? Do they want to be ANYTHING when they grow up? I am guessing that they are attracted to the lifestyle of housewife, like in the 1950's "Leave It to Beaver" model. They are in love with the archetype of breadwinner SAHD & Stay-At-Home Mom. While not every single stay-at-home mother was not a entitled "little princess gold-digger", every single gold-digger is a housewife. Otherwise what are gold-diggers doing with themselves when they try to be under the care of their rich husbands? What are these little sexy-bombshell princess gold-diggers doing with their lives, unlike the masses of men and women who are working to earn themselves a living, food & shelter? The more important question this leads to is.....WHY DO GOLD-DIGGERS WANT TO BE HOUSEWIVES? Housewives argue that they have the hardest job in the world, and they do a litany of occupations (CEO, Police Officer, Firefighter, Cook, Lawyer, Doctor)...yet gold-diggers choose working "40 occupations" over working as a breadwinner, as an actual paid professional who works infiexible, incorrigible 10 hour shifts not including commute (who has no time for themselves to enjoy, gold-diggers astutely knowing this). WHY PEOPLE, WHY OH WHY do Gold-Diggers.....gold-diggers who have so much power to control their destiny in life through another man since he wants sex........why would gold-diggers choose to be a housewife? Could that be the substantiation that I have been saying for years, that being a housewife is immeasurably better than working in the real world, as gold-diggers invariably choose THIS over advancing in the real corporate capitalist world? That any other statement to justify staying at home is clap-trap, lip-service and platitude that devolve into nothing more than platitude to wrap around the obvious truth, to feel solipsistically less like entitled kept women who truly are living the good life, in self-delusion? Voting Question: Need Help Buying a New Laptop?

Alright... I'm buying a new laptop but I know pretty little about laptops/computers. I know things like ram and all but at least last time I went to buy a laptop I came across a lot of other stuff that for the most part went over my head. I have a pretty limited budget of around 400-500$ and I'm hoping to get the most for what I'm paying. My main focus is gaming (But I know this won't be a gaming laptop. But the better it can be towards this the happier I'll be. I don't expect to be playing the newest computer games out or anything with this budget, but some of the older ones would be nice.) Basically my question is can anyone who is really knowledgeable in laptops/computers tell me what I should be looking for specs wise (like what elements are most important, where I can afford to sacrifice things, and things that are absolutely necessary), especially in regards to my budget. so ive always enjoyed, and have been good at art. then in 5th grade i learned a lot about computers, and computer design, software and hardware. in 7th grade i fixed my sisters broken laptop. in 8th grade i took apart and put back together an old analog clock. 9th grade i fixed up a 1969 corvette with my dad. and this year in 10th grade i taught myself jewelry making, and wood crafting techniques, i made a nice ring for my girlfriend, and a watch box for myself. really everything i do has to do with my hands. my career plan is all over the place. at first i thought i was just going to take art and business in college, but then i messed up and got my credits done before taking the beginning art class. so to take art and then move on to an elective art wouldnt make much sense because i would only be able to move on to maybe drawing or sculpting II. i also want to go into any social work, therapist or counselor. ive always been good with social skills, and reading people, i also understand a lot about socialogy. after making the ring and jewelry box it opened up a whole new look on my career. this may be what i love, i love art which is actually a large part in jewelry and word working. and Ive also always loved fashion which also goes into jewelry making. anything with mechanics, mainly automobiles, but ive always loved putting things together, and designing mechanisms. like rebuilding my sisters computer, or the corvette. im trying to get a more advanced look on this, not to pick my career for me. but to help me find out what i might want to do. money has never really been a big priority for me, all i want in my job is something that will keep me near home. so i can stay close to my future family and friends. if you have stuck around and read all this i thank you. i hope you can help. thanks. more

I have the T- Mobile Shadow II, and was just wondering if I would be charged a sort of "transaction fee" from t mobile for downloading a free program/game/software. For example, while on my college wifi (which is free all around campus, no data plan) I found a free game for the phone, since the game was essentially free itself, would I be charged for merely downloading it? I really don't have anyone I can talk to about certain things in my life without them being bias to me because they know me. To fill you in on a little on what has been going on in my life here it is.... I was married for 8 years and the reason for my divorce was because I caught my wife cheating on me. We tried to work it out, but I just couldn't see pass her kissing someone else when I'm kissing her, and the same goes with sex. So we finally decided to get a divorce 7 months ago and I went into a little depression, which every now and again resurfaces along with hate and other emotions. I've tried to pick myself up and start over, but I am having a hard time readjusting to the single life. I’ve tried to meet other women and have had some little success, but I can't get over this feeling that every women that I will meet is just going to cheat or lie to me when I’m not around. I know it's not fair, but it's to hard for me to get over that feeling. Currently I have been hanging out with this woman for the past month and a half, but I feel that she might be just playing me. She's a fun and a great person to hang out with and we get along very well. She’s very busy and her free time is very limited because of work, school, and a weekend job. BUT...one thing that I have been noticing is that getting a lunch date is easy, but when I ask her to do something after work or on the weekends, when she has free time, 90% of the time she says no she can't. I have hung out with her only 3 times after "work" hours, which has included; talking at her house for a couple of hours, twice, and we have gone to dinner, once. She has showed signs of interest in me, holding hands, kissing, touching, and hugging, etc. I really like this girl, but I feel like she’s seeing some guy and has me on the back burner, just in case the other guy doesn't work out. Perfect example; We planned to do something 2 days in advance, but yesterday I got a call 5 hours before we were going to hang out and she told me that she has to cancel because she was havening internet problems and was going to get it fixed when she got home and that her kid needs it for school work. But 2 days prior, she told me, when I asked her to dinner, that she was getting her computer fixed that evening and couldn't go out. I’m making excuses for her here, but I was thinking maybe there was a software problem first and fixed, and then the internet was a problem that was not noticed till after the first work was done, hence, needing her computer worked on again. Anyways, last night when I got home I texted her to see if she wanted to meet up for a bit. She never texted me back, but this is almost normal with her sometimes when I text her. But this is why I think she might be lying to me, or there’s some other dude and I’m kind of getting pissed. It’s just funny that she has time for other things in the evening, but when it comes to me, it’s not that easy to set aside time to hang out. I have been patient with her because of her busy schedule and feel I have given her enough space. I want to talk to her and lay my cards out and tell her that I like her and want to know if she feels the same towards me and to see if this “friendship” will move to the next level. I was also thinking of telling her that if there’s some other guy that she is seeing, I’m not going to be in a competition with him, because I believe I have done enough to show her that I like her and I believe that we have spent enough time together and have got to known each other enough to be able for her to make that decision. Note: That is sarcasm above. So I got a new camera for Christmas. It's an HD camera, and I couldn't wait to start shooting videos. So my friend and I got together to make a video that we've had planned for a very long time. We went out and shot it, and the playback was perfect. I come home and put the clips that we made on the computer and as it turns out, the camera shoots only in Quicktime instead of wmv format. Windows Movie Maker wors fine with my other low quality camera, but clips in Quicktime don't work on WMM. Is there any software I can find online for free that a) won't give my computer a virus, and b) works with editing Quicktime videos. more

I'd love to be able to make and distribute my own 2D RPGs like Last Scenario or FF Endless Nova, but I don't know the first thing about creating a PC game. What do I need to learn (Math, Programming, etc.,) and what is the best order for learning them? A little background, I have had this computer for two years now, do the scheduled defragment and other maintenance regularly, I've had an anti-virus software since I've been connected to the internet, and last night when I had finished making space on my hard drive I was notified of a virus on my computer. On top of that, my computer seemed to have lost a lot of my programs operating files by itself, so reinstalling a lot of programs will be necessary. So now I just want to start with a totally clean slate My question is, how can I reformat/wipe my hard drive so that nothing is left of the virus and my files (I'm planning on putting the files I want to keep on an external hard drive and scanning them before I bring them over after this whole process), and then how can I make a disk to reinstall Vista (Or better yet Windows 7; I don't actually own Windows 7, but I can download it free through my university). I came with Vista pre-installed so I have no discs for that, and I'm not knowledgeable about reinstalling OS's. Sorry for this wall of text, hope it all makes sense. Thanks to all who answer! more

Voting Question: My General Manager politely asked me to look out for a job what should I do?

I work in a good software company, I have been working in an individual capacity for over an year n half and have been a good performer generating revenues, but from the past 5 months i have been waiting for work which my company promised to find but due to recession and partnership issues with its JV they were not, but they were under the hope to find work which i think is very bleak now, so my GM a decent respectable man said he had a premonition that the top management may suddenly decide to give me the pink slip, which he said is not yet official to him. Now my problem is I thought of pulling through the job for the next 3 months since I am getting married then and relocating to Bombay. I have serious plans to pursue my studies after marriage so I am sure to join a master degree program by august 2010. Resolved Question: My world of warcraft account was banned, I wasn't even online. What do I do?

Alright, so I signed up for an acocunt 2 days ago, and just went on today after I got home from school, apparently my account was banned... I looked on my email and it had 2 new emails, one stating that my account had been successfully upgraded, and another send an hour later saying that my account was banned due to abusing the chat system, both emails were sent around midnight, I haven't been on since yesterday around 9:30 PM. I believe this is because my account had been hacked with a virus on my computer, I dont have any anti-virus software... The reason I think this is because 4 random humans were created on my acocunt when I first made it, I didnt think anything of it at the time, but now I realized it was a hack. Is there any free antivirus software that can remove a virus on my computer? Will Blizzard be able to unban me? I just paid 80$ for all of this, and I dont plan on having all my money stolen like this. more

Resolved Question: No password for administrator account on Windows Vista?

A friend of my boyfriend purchased a Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop for his girlfriend. After the couple split she left the laptop behind, she said he could return it if he wanted to. Instead he sold me the laptop without a charger or anything. I purchased a charger for it ($90 dollars) and was all prepared to use it after it charged up but the problem arised that the laptop was a password protected laptop running on vista home basic. I asked the guy for the password and he said he'd ask his ex girlfriend for it, but it's been 3 and a half weeks, and he keeps putting it off no matter how many times I constantly remind him that I need the password. I figure he already has his money therefore doesn't care whether or not I can even use the laptop. The laptop means more to me then demanding my money back, especially since I got a decent deal on it after planning to buy this model laptop full price. I've tried everything from password reset disks, password erase disks, sites with downloads for boot disks etc etc etc. I've tried guessing the password, I've tried taking it to a repair shop so they could reinstall the operating system from scratch, but everytime you try to do anything it just takes you to the password prompt screen. I tried reinstalling the operating system myself, and a million other techniques, but it's always the same. I tried booting from disk by setting up my BIOs to boot from disk but it just takes me to the main login screen prompting for a password. I've tried to do a system restore, to login in safe mode, but sure enough it just defaults to the main vista login screen over and over again. I've tried looking on the main Dell website for answers, but they all assume you either have access to a spare administrator account (which I don't) or they assume you created password reset disks in advance, which of course I couldn't since I've purchased this laptop off my boyfriends friend and not from a store. Does anyone know what I can possibly do? I've talked to people who have offered to "hack" the password for me, but they all charge rediculous amounts of money that I don't have, and I'm afraid to purchase an online software for $40 bucks and up when so far every disk I put into the drive just gets ignored and defaults to the main login screen and prompts me for a password. Somebody please help me!!!! more
