Istanbul Tours Turkey Questions asked

Resolved Question: I need to learn some basic Turkish very very fast, in less than 2 weeks? Any free website with audio examples?

I have a flight to Istanbul; Turkey, the next 27th December, and I am there for New Year's Day, and will leave the 3rd of January. This is not a tour nor an all-exclusive plan, because I want to visit the city on my way (without bing stuck in a bus with dozens of tourists) I go there with another friend of mine (we both are from Belgium) I've learned a few words, but I need to understand the whole sentences and argot, etc And what are some "pick up lines" in Turkish? Thanks more

Resolved Question: I will come to Istanbul from 27 December to 2 January...What activities and places can you recommend me,?

It's my first time in Turkey, I will come with a friend ( a guy too); and this is not a tour travel (I want to discover the city without being in a group of tourists). Can you suggest some nice hotel , in safe quarter, close to touristic places? I can't afford 5 stars hotels, but I don't want to stay in a weird hotel either...Something with "average" price, and decent. And what kind of activities do you think I should do there? What restaurants, nightclubs, stores, museums, etc, etc... Thank you! ps : Is tr true that UE citizens must pay a visa fee when arriving at the customs? more

Resolved Question: Traveling to Turkey next June, need some advice on tours?

Myself and several friends are going to be traveling to Turkey next June and we are trying to find a reputable tour company. We have seen prices ranging from 1,500.00 - 7,600.00 per person. We intend to stay for about 2 weeks, and there will be anywhere from 4-8 of us, depending on the cost. We must see Istanbul and Troy, the rest is up in the air. So far the best looking tours we have found are Danytours, but they are also the most expensive. I expect the trip to be costly but does anyone have any recommendations for other companies to look at? I want a professional english speaking tour guide and accomodations included in the total charge. I am not interested in having multiple "free days" strewn throughout the tour as I have seen from some companies. I am only interested in companies with websites I can peruse. Thanks for the help! more

Resolved Question: Bodrum Turkiye vs Other Destinations...?

Hi, I love travelling, I have been travelling since I was 4 (i'm 22 now). I have been to Cyprus, Turkey (Bodrum) 14 times, Turkey (Marmaris) 3 times, Turkey (Istanbul) once, Egypt, Bulgaria, India, Gran Canaria (biggest mistake of my life), Kos, Rhodes. Overall, Turkey has been my favourite destination ever. Bodrum feels like a second home to me, I have friends over there that I haven't seen in around 4 years and I have done all the usual tourist tours. I have a basic grasp of the language and could spend countless hours on the gorgeous gullet trips. My boyfriend and I are planning to go to Bodrum next year and I would like to go every other year. He says he wouldn't. He wants to visit other place as would I - I want to go to Japan (Kyoto), Egypt again, Poland, Thailand, Morrocco also the countries where I have family. My boyfriend has only been abroad once, to fuarteventura and the whole Spanish thing just isn't for me. He doesn't understand how I can love a place so much that I feel as if I have to go back more and more. Granted he hasn't been yet but how can I make him see that Bodrum is the most beautiful place on earth and that it will always be somewhere I want to go back to. more

Resolved Question: is it feasible to take a trip to troy in one day?

I'm going to Turkey for four days, and I'm staying in a hotel in Istanbul, but I really want to go to Troy because I like the story about the Trojan War and I'm obsessed with the movie. I've heard it's a long way from Istanbul and that most tours are two-day Troy+Gallipoli tours, but I really don't have enough time for a two day excursion. is it possible to do a day trip to Troy? more

Resolved Question: Classical Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria in 11 days?

I will be flying in and out of Istanbul and will be there for 11 days from April 1 this year. I am wondering what would be the best tourist route to see Classical Turkey, Greece (and maybe a glimpse of the most beautiful island heh) and Bulgaria in 11 days. I am not very much a beach person, so I am thinking that a ferry ride from Piraeus to Samos and onto Kusadasi may suffice. No idea if it is going to be scenic. I cant seem to get much info from travel guides nor googling. So I thought I would ask. My tentative itinerary is as follows: Day 1 Arrive Istanbul. Leave Istanbul on Filia express to Athens Day 2 Spend a day in Acropolis Day 3 Delphi Tour Day 4 Take ferry from Piraeus to Samos to Kudadasi - Any suggestion of which ferry that runs at this time of year? Day 5 Ephesus tour Day 6 Gallipoli Day 7 Istanbul - Personal agenda Day 8 Edrine - Personal agenda Day 9 Sophia Day 10 Rila Monastery Day 11 Sophia?Poliv back to Istanbul - Is bus the best way or train? Day 12 Fly out of Istanbul Appreciate if you can advise of specific routes, transport details and approximate cost. Any other travel tips or suggestions to itinerary most welcome. Please also advise any tips for travel as a female if I choose not to join local tours. Any tips for those tours like Ephesus or Delphi or Galiipoli appreciated. I will be staying in hostels. Any tips welcome. Yep I am on a budget. Don't mind walking but I do have a bag in addition to a day back pack. If I were to take public transport, where are the storage facilities or locker room details. Much thanks, Pearl.Thank you for your informed response. Are you suggesting that I take tours? I travel well, so 6 hours is not a big deal. I am just not aware how easy the connection points are, if I were to tug along a big bag and a back pack. The problem with tours is that they seem to start from Istanbul rather from down south. So maybe I have to reverse the order of my travel. Further suggestions welcome. more

Resolved Question: Three month tour of Turkey (mid-Oct-mid-January)?

Three month tour of Turkey (mid-Oct-mid-January) I am Canadian traveler flying to Istanbul in mid-October, I have 3 months to travel around the region/ I am looking for decent weather, amazing mountains, nice scenary, quiet, peaceful areas, less European tourists, and a great authentic Turkish experience. In combination with my interests listed above I'd like to plan out of a route starting in Istanbul -> heading south. I don't know what parts of Turkey are nicest in winter, but I have heard bad things about Ankara, and it's said that's also the coldest part of Turkey in winter, so it's probably wise to steer clear of that part. Also, if 3 months ends up becoming too long in the nicer parts of Turkey, I am interested in crossing the border to Syria, and finally Lebanon, before flying out of Beirut in mid-January. My question about Syria is visa-related. Lebanon is visa-free for Canadians, but Syria requires a pre-arranged visa, which means a Syrian embassy, which means getting one in Istanbul, but is that possible? Some countries insist Canadians obtain tourist visas in Canada, obviously that's not an option. I would really like to visit Syria, after Turkey by bus, or train. Thanks more

Resolved Question: A trip to Antalya and Istanbul -Turkey

Hey... We are a group of 4 wanting to visit Turkey (Mainly Antalya for its outdoor activities like mountain climbing, and Istanbul) Our plan is to stay in Antalya for 3 nights and 5 nights in Istanbul. We're traveling from UAE and the planned trip from an agency is costing us US$ 3500 / person for everything mentioned above including rides to and from the airports and tours of Istanbul. Any advice as to which airline to take, which hotels to stay in, how to plan the trip on a day to day basis, would be great! Also, if any of you are in Turkey at this time of the year or are Turkish, your guidance will be appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Fellow Turks (and honorary Turks) who love Turkiye: Words or actions?

Tell me who loves Turkiye more, Person A or Person B. Both persons live in the West. Person A: This person teaches children (say math, English, etc.) every summer in his father's village, as well as Turkish children in his local community. He also sends money and help whenever he can to the village. He sings and plays any Turku you can think of beautifully. Name any neighborhood in Istanbul, and he can give you a short guided tour. But, he remains neutral in all political discussions involving Turkish conflicts, never participating in those. Person B: This person participates vehemently in all political discussions involving Turkiye, verbally defending everything "Turkish" to the end. He participates in many social activities of his local Turkish community (parties, watching soccer, etc.) and even helps out on occasion, but makes no regular commitment to do so. When he does visit Turkey it is purely for vacation. Are most of us like A, B? If neither, then how are you?Another twist: Do you think that it is *necessary* to choose to live in Turkiye if you really love the country? In fact, is it *enough* to live in Turkiye to know that you love Turkiye? Persons who are not originally from Turkiye but love the country are also welcome to chime in. more

I am considering either travelling around Europe but only 4/5 countries sucj as France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Cyprus. Or I may be doing a tour of Turkey as it's like my homeland. Anyway, i will be gone about 6-7 weeks leaving from England. I will need to pay for accomodation, travelling expenses, food etc and yes will probably buy things like gifts etc. How much do you think I will need on a rough scale for the Europe trip? Also, if i decide to go to Turkey I will be travelling on the east side mostly such as Istanbul, Izmir, ölüdeniz, Hisaronu, Fethiye, Antalya, Ankara, Bursa, Bodrum. Resolved Question: Where can I find noise ruduction head phones with microphones for noisy factory tours in Turkey?

I need a system for touring a very noisy factory. It should protect the ears from damage from very loud production, while also having microphones so we can discuss. A similar devise is shown below: http://www.hdhearing.com/People/TourGuideSys.htm Does anyone know where you can find this in Turkey? If you know a place in Izmit or Gebze that would be great. Otherwise, Istanbul.Unfortunately, the links offered by Ipek K have headphones for personal use. I am looking for a "group use system." This will allow a small group of people to communicate while touring a factory. It will need to have microphones so that everyone can hear each other. At the same time, it must block out the sound of the noisy machines in the factory. more

Resolved Question: Thinking about going to Turkey?

I just got back and I LOVED it there! Check out my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdPnk35nR08 Originally I wasn't into going because I only knew of Turkey through the film "Midnight Express" and of the political problems that I heard of recently in the news. But when a couple of spaces opened up on a tour that a friend hosted and it was cheap (compared to other european countries) I decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did. The people are very friendly, the food was so delicious and the sites are incredible. And we only went to Istanbul, Cappadocia and the Gulf of Gokova! I am so looking forward to going back. And yes, it's safe. There was a lot of security especially in Istanbul. So PLEASE, GO VISIT THIS COUNTRY! IT'S A GREAT PLACE! more

Resolved Question: What to see on Agean coast of Turkey near Bodrum in 7 days?

I'll be travelling to Turkey. Other than Istanbul, I plan to go down to the coast of Turkey near Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, maybe even Antalya. Some Greek islands are also nearby, such as Kos, Rhodes. I have been to Greek islands before but not to Kos or Rhodes. Rhodes is a big island, my feeling is that I should not include it as this 7-day tour of the Turkish coast. My question is: what's the highlight of this part of Turkey/Greece? With emphasis on Turkey. I prefer scenic landscape, beautiful coves for swimming, boating, photography. Not so much package holiday sort of place. How can I plan my 7-day holiday? Thanks more
