Japan Tour Questions asked

Resolved Question: Can I Be A Good Baseball Player in the USA?

I'm 14 years old and i love playing baseball. I'm pretty good and I represented Australia in baseball and went to Japan on a tour. I played state in the Little League World Series and I was wondering if I could be a really good player here because I know baseball is much more competitive here then in Australia. I play shortstop and pitcher and I just moved here from Australia. I live in Chicago. Any Advice? more

Open Question: Do you believe that the large amount of tourism to Hiroshima is blood money or a genuine wanting of peace?

Let's face it. If you were to say "Hiroshima" to any westerner, he/she will immediately think of the bombing. I'm going on a tour to Japan in the summer, and Hiroshima is one of the stops. This is undeniably because of the bombing. I understand that the purpose of the memorial there is a cry for world peace, but I would imagine that it would cost money to get into the museum. In that case, the person in charge of the museum would be making a ton of money off of the disaster. Overall, what do you think? Is it respect for the victims or blood money? more

Open Question: Communicating with Japanese students. I need help!?

For a week, several students are coming from Japan to my school so they can see what high school is like (they went to middle school) and to work on their English. Being the socially awkward moron that I am, I decide to volunteer to be sort of like "tour guide" for them. My Japanese buddy knows more English than I do Japanese, but there is still a language barrier and I'm not very good with meeting new people so I get nervous and speak really quickly making it difficult to understand each other sometimes. I would greatly appreciate it if you could give me a couple things to ask her to start a conversation and/or some simple Japanese phrases/questions I can ask her. I know a little bit of Japanese, just simple and random sentences and phrases, but not enough to have a decent conversation. She's so cute, but I feel embarrassed asking her to repeat everything she says because I can't understand what she's saying because of her accent or because she is so quiet. I need tips on how to get past that. Domo Arigato more

Resolved Question: Why are American Artist Under Japanese labels in music?

I was reading an article about AVEX records. It showed that a bunch of japanese artist are under their which is understandable. But then Korean artist are under it too like DBSK(well they sing in japanese too), Super Junior and BoA. Im pretty sure that they dont sing in Japanese. But japanes people like korean music so its ok. Then i saw something that really felt weird Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers are there. Now i know that they dont sing in Japanese so why are they with a Japanese label. The distance is long, they have to hire translators and they dont tour that much in Japan. So why are American teen artist that sing english songs are with and Japanese label? more

Resolved Question: Should I visit Japan before moving to work there?

BACKGROUND... I plan to go to Japan at the end of this year to teach English, hopefully for around 3 years. I already have my CELTA qualification and am just waiting and working on my final year at University. I have never visited Japan, but through reading about it, tasting the foods, listening to the music and hearing about it from Japanese friends living in England, this really is the country I have my heart set on working in. THE PROBLEM... I was planning to go for a 1 month holiday with my best friend touring Japan during June, to get a basic feel of the country, and an idea of any adjustments I would have to make whilst living there. She recently told me that now her work will only let her have 2 weeks off.. this has since gone down to 15 days.. and she has now told me today that she isn't sure if she would be able to afford Japan at all (we approximated about £2000/$3000 for a comfortable 2 week trip). So that was quite a let down... MY QUESTION (are the titles helping? :P)... Would it be worth my while going to Japan alone for a week or so? I would still like to go on holiday with my friend, even if it is somewhere cheaper. But just to note, my fundings are definitely not unlimited, as I am still only a student. Do I need to visit Japan before making a commitment to work there? Or maybe when/if I get a job, I could just go out there a week or two before the start date. If anybody could give me any kind of imput, I would reaaaaaally appreciate it! Quite unsure at the moment. I would prefer not to go on holiday to Japan on my own, but if you think it would be beneficial to me, then please let me know. Thanks so much!Sorry.. from 3 weeks down to 15 days I meant :) more

Resolved Question: Please help my anime obsessed "friend" is driving me insane!!!?

Ok first, let me just say that i'm not one of those people that hate Anime; I actually enjoy watching anime and reading manga! :D Please don't think im some narrow minded brat that hates someone just for their interests So basically my clingy "friend" (shes not really my friend she just tags along wherever I go -_-) is now obsessed with anime to a point where I think its kinda unhealthy. When I'm hanging out with my other friends talking about i dont know soup or something she just butts in and starts talking about sailor moon. My friends aren't into anime/manga so they get annoyed when she won't shut up. Seriously its all she talks about!! It got on my nerves because she just talked about cutesy lovely anime that I don't like that much so I showed her Death Note which was a HUGE mistake. Now she talks about "Oh im going to kill so and so with the Death Note" and "I've got shinigami eyes so I'm going to kill you"!! It creeps out everybody I hang out with and itsembarrassingg because she's convinced Death Notes real! And when I told her that she was freaking me out about the killing people thing she just said "What are you talking about whats 'Death note'?" I got confused and thought she was messing around with me but then I remembered that if you give up ownership of the death note your memories geterasedd. I'm pretty surethat'ss the game shes playing and it just gets on my nerves since its just an excuse to hide her obsession!!! D: I'm really not comfortable posting this on the internet since she talks me everywhere (Facebook, youtube etc.) but its seriously insane! Currently shes into Hellsing and talks about how she had sex with Alucard and got raped by Ghouls! Her room is a temple to anime with costumes, manga books, her own drawings, and firgues everywhere and plus shes trying to speak japanese!! I'm half jap. and I know how to speak a bit and her japanese is just horrible. You can't learn just by watching anime I'm sorry I tried that! And when I try to help her by fixing her errors she said "Screw you what the f*** do you know about Japanese?!?!" WTF I got seriously offended by that I put up with that for 3 months and then she started drawing manga. I have to admit she's not really good since all she draws are tpical girls in uniforms that she traces but she flaunts it in my face everyday. (not trying to sound stuck up) I'm pretty good, not the best, but okay with drawing in that style and I work with a tablet(a tablets a thing you plug into a computer and you can draw on ;)) and digital coloring. When I told her that she bought herself 2 expensive tablets and 3 high quality programs and started rubbing it in my face! I have a cheap tablet and program so yeah I can't help if I can't afford Photoshop but it was mean of her to say that I was poor! :'( And lastly shes GOING to Japan this summer!!!! And she says she wants to meet up with me and make me give her a tour there! (I visit Japan in the summer too btw) Not only that but she wants to go with me and wants to stay at my house there! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhh i'm sorry I posted a whole rant here and its really long xD Basically the question is how can I tell her to back off and I don't want to be friends anymore??? (nicely)Thanks guys for all your answers!!! Lol @ candi i totally know what you mean I love Jrock too!! more

Voting Question: what's a good estimate on how long it can/will take for him to convert his orders?

My husband is in Okinawa, Japan on an unaccompanied tour. Tomorrow he will go and request for a change of orders, a 3 year accompanied tour instead of an unaccompanied. All I need to know is an estimate of how long it will take to know whether or not his orders are changed, and if when they are changed, i will have to be on the next flight out?..I'm just wondering, just curious. Plus I need to know how fast or slow it happens, because if it happens fast I'd have to go over there and perhaps not be able to finish my semester at OSU. So please, no negative comments about the Marine Corps or anything. You're just waisting your time more

Resolved Question: Do tour holidays exist for going to Japan/China?

I want to go to Japan or China and I am wondering if I would be able to book everything through a tour guide instead of just booking it my self and getting lost in the city and probably missing the best bits. So for example, you pay maybe £1500 for a week for all the flights, they pick you up from the airport, provide lodging and show you all the best places in the city and maybe a few destinations outside it as well while in a group of like 5-10 other people. I hope something like this exists, if it does does anyone have a link to a tour that has good reputation? China would be Beijing and Japan would be Tokyo or Kyoto. Thanks :) more

Resolved Question: Biggest Heavy Metal Band in the World: Iron Maiden or Metallica?

I was wondering the other day which is the most popular and well-known metal band. Metallica is supposedly "the biggest heavy metal band in the world", which isn't hard to believe, considering they have sold millions of albums and have sold out most of their shows, and have many many fans worldwide (Me being one of them!) But there's also Iron Maiden (which I am also a fan of) which I think is really the biggest heavy metal band, for many reasons. Some of them being that they are the most known NWOBHM band (them or Judas Priest...or Motorhead), they also sell out most of their shows, sell a ton of merch and millions of albums. They also travel across the globe in their tours, reaching all corners of the world such as Japan, Argentina, Mexico, India (not just UK and US), etc. They have faithful fans everywhere like Metallica. Their situations are similar (except that Iron Maiden has been around a longer while) so I think it's very close, but I think Iron Maiden is the biggest heavy metal band out there. What do you guys think? more

Resolved Question: I am thinking about going to Japan in Early September for 10 nights. Where should I go besides Toyko and for h?

I am seriously thinking about visiting Japan for the first time for 10 nights in early September. But I am very clueless about what sites that I should specifically see there. I don't know any Japanese. Voting Question: How can I apply for housing while pregnant and unmarried (long)?

In short, I'm enlisted in the AF, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, trying to move out of the dorms before I'm seven or eight months pregnant and too huge and unwieldy to move myself, much less my stuff. Here's the story: I went to Housing at the end of December. Housing said, 'you can't apply until you have a dependent, go get command sponsorship and come back.' So i went to MPF. They said, 'you can't apply for command sponsorship til the baby is born.' I said, 'but...housing?' and they said, 'get an exception to policy letter.' I went to housing and asked. They gave me a template. I routed it up my chain of command. Weeks later, I got it back. I took it to housing. They said, 'oh, no, you need him to sign HERE, not there.' I took it to the Col's secretary. She said, 'this is wrong, and this is wrong, go fix it before i bring it to him.' (even though the Col had already approved it, proving civilian secretaries outrank Cols.) I fixed the stuff (making 18th into 18TH, for example.) and brought it back. She got it to him. A week later I got it back. I brought it to housing today. The people at the desk were very confused at what i needed, and finally got a civilian worker to come up front. He basically explained that nothing i had done was going to work. Apparently: I don't need a letter to apply for housing without command sponsoring - I can do that 60 days prior delivery. I just can't move in before the baby is born. Of course, there's much more than a 60 day waiting list for housing, but that doesn't matter. If i want to move in prior delivery, I have to have an exception to policy. The one i have saying I can apply for housing before delivery will not work, as I can 'apply' before delivery already - just not move in. Also, I have to move out of the dorms at five months. But, since I can't apply for base housing that 'early', I have to apply to live off base. For which i need proof of an extended tour. For which i need to command sponsor a dependent. I find this just as confusing upon reading it as I did when I heard it, which is why I'm tossing the question out here in hopes someone may have some information I haven't thought of to ease this process a bit. My supervisor just got to base a week or so before me, and as I'm his first troop, he's as helpful as he 'can' be, but knows just about as much as I do. more

Resolved Question: Why is it that our Philippines government say this too often but we are still a poor country?

I think you know the usual rhetoric speech quote :"that if not for our millions of OFW remittances, our Philippines economy is now in shambles". And the number of Filipinos going out of the country to find a sustainable job or income is still climbing, and yet we are still a poor country. Why? How many times our OFW remittances has salvage the Philippines economy from the Asian economic crunch of 1997, the 9/11 up to now. I suppose if our country is like Japan, and who thinks like Japanese these millions probably already converted to a trillion and made the country prosperous for years to come. But as I said we are not Japanese and we don't think like one either. Our present OFW do not even have trust funds either for themselves or their immediate family just in case something happens to them only a mere insurance policy. They should be provided with a private airplanes in cases of immediate evacuation if war broke out in their employed country. I suppose the remittances amount to billions in terms of Philippine peso and most OFW do not know what benefits or privileges they have out of their effort. Some even have to ask help from private individuals like Senator Villar to airlift them out of their misery in Saudi and other parts of the world. As if our government is inutile at that. Don't you think the Senate should investigate the millions of OFW remittances and where they are actually being channeled from? What do you think? ------------------------------------------------- And for you Reuben-I personally do not know if you are gay, lesbian or straight. Your name sounds like male but your avatar is not. All my questions comes from my head and I personally do not need a tremor to motivate me. How about you? Have you ask a no non-sense question lately? I guess you do not only have an attitude problem but also a family problem. Just don't take it on me. Sorry to write it here bec. your IM is close plus your question/answer is branded to be private in nature compared to mine which is absolutely open and transparent, you can virtually tour the whole compound because I am not hiding anything nor intend to do so. Unlike other people who closes everything in their files as if someone is going to rob them of their identity. My conscience is clear. more

Resolved Question: Just curious, Where, when, + what length was your holiday + how much did it cost?

Sorry for the +s... I ran out of space! I'm budgeting a trip for South America, though also considering Japan and South East Asia, and wanting to compare my travels to other people's in terms of budgeting. Last time I went to India it cost £4000 for three of us together, but that was for a month and NOT living on a budget, ie. staying in good hotels and doing tours etc. I realize I could, and will again easily do a much cheaper trip, as I'm less scared about eating cheap food and staying in hostels/going on dodgy trains/buses etc. I'm planning to go for 2 months to Peru and Brazil, wanting to see the amazon, rio de janeiro, go on the inca trail, and see some places like el salvador, quito, manaus, ihrs Grandes. If you can remember, please tell me anywhere you went, the time period you stayed there, any tours you went on or days out, the cost of everything, including the type of accommodation you stayed in and range of restaurants you went to, flights, internal flights, buses, trains, anything! Resolved Question: Ballet lessons... I don't have the money for it?

I really love ballet and I am 14. I am a beginner/intermediate. Just now I found a really amazing vaganova ballet school 30 minutes away from here. I would love to be a ballet dancer and some how even though I didn't always have a life that revolves around ballet, I am blessed to have the physical requirements. I found a school in Japan which I want to try for when I am 18. If you all are thinking why Japan? It is because my mother is from there and there is a very good new school there to train to become a professional ballet dancer. Anyway the school I want to try for costs £260 per three months in other words a lot of money. I could just ask my mum but she already has the strain of being a single mum, full time teacher with two teenage kids. She pays for my ballet lessons which are twice a week and is not that expensive. I could ask my father but doesn't have enough money - he is redundant because the company he worked in as a designer decided to sack my dad and just pay cheaply some factory in China somewhere. That school is amazing, they have toured around the World (Russia, Israel, Barcelona) and they have good connections and have amazing shows. You may be thinking that I should find another school but I can assure you this is the only place I would be able to go to due to where I live. I could ask my grandparents but they already pay for our schools which are private schools and as you can guess cost a lot so my grandpa sympathizes with my mother and offered to pay. I cannot ask him, he has paid so much for me and my brother. I have pocket money I receive every month £20, I am of course more than willing to swap that with lessons but £60 instead of £260 is not exactly a high percentage of what I need to pay. Also I have gcse's (only United Kingdom does it I think, it is a public examination) so that is what my mother wants me to concentrate on at the moment even though it's next year. Sorry about droning on, and I thank you for reading this. Please if you have any ideas how i could pay for this like if you know any societies or Charity's would help me. Please don't suggest lets say 'be nice and wash the dishes for a week or do a fund raising cake sale', 1. I already wash dishes and do chores and cook and baking biscuits is not going to get me anywhere. Thank you very much Tiffany HalleOh yes, I realise that 18 is quite or indeed pretty late. I would love to try for schools earlier but unfortunately I have (there is absolutely no exceptions.) to take my gcse's at my current school. Due to the fact that these exams are compulsary and only if I get good results am I allowed to even try for a ballet school by my mother. In Japan the school I like has quite a flexible age for starting and finishing. As long as you are 16 - 20 and you are accepted for three years training then you can go there. And the other school is the English National Ballet School which allows you to try for the school even at 18. But those are the only schools I can try for. All the other schools accept at 16 but I can't really do anything unfortunately. I would love to try at 16 so much but I cant. Sigh. more

Resolved Question: Best Japanese cell phone plan for a 3 month stay (U.S. traveler)?

I will be studying in Japan for three months (coming from the U.S.) and would like to find information on Japanese cell phone plans before I arrive. I hope to use my cell phone in Japan primarily for internet and mobile messenger usage (to communicate with my friends/family in the U.S.) but would like to also be able to make some local calls and texts when needed, using a Japanese phone number. I currently have a U.S. Verizon Wireless Blackberry Tour and would like to be able to use this phone with a Japanese Sim card that allows for internet usage and some sort of pay as you go or short term minutes/text package. Or, if this is not possible, I would like to find out my best options for buying or renting a Japanese phone for this time period. Does anyone have any recommendations on what my best options would be and whether I can use my Tour with a Japanese cell phone provider? What are the general rates for a phone package including internet and some texts/calls? When I arrive in Tokyo, can I expect someone at a cell phone provider store to be able to speak English and set something up with me? Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Does anyone think that a New Japan Pro Wrestling tour of the U.S would draw good money.?

Many great NJPW wrestlers hardly come to the states like Jusjin "Thunder" Liger, The Great Muta, Yuji Nagata, Masa Chona, While they were over here they could even scout for more talent. Many people will not travel to Japan just to see wrestling. more
