Tuscany Without the Crowds - New York Times

I need some information on towns and houses for merchants and craftsmen in the medieval England. Please help! more

Open Question: Looking for an old medieval/renaissance downloadable/pc game. (???)?

I believe this game is easily more than 5 years old give or take. It has what seems to be an infinite number of levels or a lot anyway because even after "beating" the game you can continue to more levels. As the player you are a young man trying to build a reputation so that you can take the final quest that allows you to beat the game. Here's the most important piece of identifying info that I can remember - there's an old man (wizard or whatever the heck he was) standing off by a large gate (I think it's a gate) and he is the one who sends you on the final mission. You can always see him and approach him while your in town but he will just keep telling you that you need to finish the other stuff before he can help you or he just rejects you. You can purchase better weapons as you get better and you sort of use portals to go deeper and deeper into this underground of like caves (levels) fighting many different types of creatures the deeper you go. I can't remember the name of this game to save my life. Does this sound familiar to anyone??? It was downloaded years ago and I really need to find it (if it's still around somewhere) ASAP! At least if you can throw out some names it might spark my memory of what the darn thing was! Thanks!!! more

Open Question: What are some figures of speech used in the poem "Miniver cheevy" by Edwin A. Robinson ?

What are some figures of speech used in the poem "Miniver cheevy" by Edwin Arlington Robinson, if any ? also, which line is it in ? thanks. The poem goes like this - Miniver Cheevy, child of scorn, Grew lean while he assailed the seasons; He wept that he was ever born, And he had reasons. Miniver loved the days of old When swords were bright and steeds were prancing; The vision of a warrior bold Would set him dancing. Miniver sighed for what was not, And dreamed, and rested from his labors; He dreamed of Thebes and Camelot, And Priam's neighbors. Minever mourned the ripe renown That made so many a name so fragrant; He mourned Romance, now on the town, And Art, a vagrant. Minever loved the Medici, Albeit he had never seen one; He would have sinned incessantly Could he have been one. Miniver cursed the commonplace And eyed a khaki suit with loathing; He missed the mediæval grace Of iron clothing. Miniver scorned the gold he sought, But sore annoyed was he without it; Miniver thought, and thought, and thought, And thought about it. Miniver Cheevy, born too late, Scratched his head and kept on thinking; Miniver coughed, and called it fate, And kept on drinking. more

Resolved Question: The perfect Medieval Town, just for fun!?

If you were to have to build a Medieval town, what opportunities would the city provide to merchants, peasants, and artisans? What would be the town name, and where would it be by? How would the growth of the towns lead to the decline of manoralism and serfdom? So basically, the perfect Medieval Town. How would it be the best, and what would make you want to live there? Ten Points to the best answer, and this is just for fun by the way!Don't gripe at me about what category I put this into. I just put it in one, thanks. Resolved Question: Imagining a medieval town...POINTS! Help, PLEASE!?

Well, my project is for history obviously. Here's what it says to do; Imagine that a medieval town has hired you to attract people to move there. Create an advertisement that describes opportunities the city provides to the merchants, artisans, and peasants. On the back of the paper, explain how the growth of the towns led to the decline of manorialism and serfdom. I'm really confused on the very last part that I have to do on the back. I'm wondering if I could make an advertisement that says ATTENTION ALL MERCHANTS, if you like to sell retail, come live here!!... etc, etc. Would that make any sense? Please help, I'm SO confused on this. more

Resolved Question: Do you think returning soldiers from wars fought centuries ago were responsible for the hell concept?

I’ve read a lot of books about wars fought during the Napoleonic era and there was one which really caught my attention. This particular novel dealt with the siege of Badajoz, a town in Spain that was held by the French and besieged by the British, Spanish and Portuguese allies. Now, the Napoleonic wars were kind of in between wars; they were fought with tactics that were in between medieval warfare and modern warfare. The armies were divided up into infantry, cavalry and artillery; the artillery being incredibly heavy muzzle loaded cannon that had to be dragged into position by teams of oxen or horses. During a siege, the besieging artillery would gradually creep closer and closer to the town walls, all the time under enemy artillery fire. Once they got close enough to the walls, the cannon would begin pounding away making a breach in the walls. Once the besieging general had deemed the breach big enough, the infantry were sent in. This was where the term “once more into the breach” came from and it signified one of the most incredibly brave and dangerous things a soldier could be ordered to do. The defending soldiers would booby trap the breach, line it with sharp metal spikes and pour flammable liquid over the rubble ready to set fire to it when they saw the enemy soldiers. They would line up their soldiers to defend the breach and wave after wave of enemy soldiers were literally cut to pieces as they tried to get through the breach. At night time, the besieging soldiers would try creeping closer to the breach but the defenders would throw bales of hay soaked in oil over the wall and set fire to them so that the ditch before the wall looked like a fiery pit. The besieging soldiers who had been injured trying to get through the breach would be lying in agony in this fiery pit, wailing and gnashing their teeth. This is almost exactly what Christians claim hell is like so do the similarities make you think that this kind of warfare, which was being fought for centuries, is where the Christian concept of hell came from? more

Resolved Question: If you discovered an island with a lost race of people, what would they be like?

I'm thinking pink hair, lime green skin for women. purple or blue hair for men. Living in highly-organized tribes, and part time-hunter-gatherers with some subsistence farming thrown in for about half the population. The other half would live a more medieval lifestyle, with castles, knights, and towns with specialised craftspeople. Land of the Watermelon People, i know, but i would like to see a naturally pink-haired person, how cheery lol hahahalmao i knoww* NO jerky racist answers please, this is just for fun more

Resolved Question: What is the name of the movie where a knight drinks a potion and goes into the future?

The knight is a king of a town and at his wedding ceremony some guy pours a poison into his drink to make him hullucinate and kill his bride to be. The king/knight then is jailed and finds a wizard guy. the wizard makes him a potion for him and his servant to drink which makes them travel to the future where his room is now a museum and he coincidentally meets his great ++++ grand daughter who is a worker at the museum and has a cheating boyfriend that at the end of the movie drinks a potion the king made and is sent back to medieval times. I can only reemmber this much and would appreciate it if someone could tell me the name of the movie. Also Kudos to anyone that can figure it out from the description I gave. more

Voting Question: Would this be a good story?

i have to write a narrative for english and i have thought of an idea for a story (i'm still not sure if i'll use it though) it's about this girl who lives in the medieval times and she is accused of being a witch (you know how they did that to innocent people in the middle ages?) and she has to run away from her family to survive, so the town doesn't burn her. does this idea for a story sound any good? if it's bad can you think of any other ideas? and what are some nice real medieval names for the main characterany names other than Elizabeth (because it's my name and it would be weird to use my own name in a story) more

Voting Question: What do you think this dream means?

It starts out on a farm (in a sort of medieval setting) with dead crops in a small, trashed house where I live with my father (I've never met my father, by the way. I also have no siblings) and my two sisters. I am the one that he treats the worst and he is constantly abusing me verbally and emotionally. One day he becomes angry at me and puts me into this attic where there are cow heads and spider webs everywhere. There is a hole in the ceiling and cow heads and cow...well, poop..keeps falling through it. I am currently pregnant in the dream (definitely not in real life, nor would I want to be), but no one knows it yet. Later on after he lets me out I make a run for it in from of who I assume to be my extended family in the dream. Another girl who is also pregnant runs with me. He then starts yelling something about us stilling his crops. (???) We run until we get to this road and everything suddenly is more modern. Two women a sort of soccer mom van pick us up and offer to take us somewhere to stay in Missouri. We go there with them and when we do it was a trap and they just want to take us back home. But instead of telling us that they're arresting us or something like that, they tell us that we are going to be suspended from school. (???) We make a run for it again, but the other girl falls behind. I eventually meet up with this group of homeless teenagers who are all around my age (teenagers) and I stay with them and have my baby. It is never revealed if it is a boy or a girl. (I never even see the baby, I just know that it has been born) After that I am curious about this rope hanging down from the sky (the baby is with those people) and I swing on it, only to end up in a train station where I can not leave and my only choice is to hop the train with this prostitute and Will Smith. (???) Will Smith ends up having to drive the train because the water is so high that it covers the train tracks and for some reason the train driver can't. We get to this town, which has now become an island, and we all three go our separate ways. I decide to go to my grandmother's house (my real life grandmother) and she comes and picks me up. On the car ride home I realize that I have made a mistake and that I will never see my baby again. I start crying. I then woke up and was actually crying.Oops. *stealing his cropsSorry about all of the typos. I just woke up. more

Voting Question: Can you read and criticise my plot summary about this trilogy?

A long time ago the zodiac (12) beings with their representative relic and attribute ruled the world in harmony. Each sign had a vital part to the cycle of earth. But they became immortal and some went bad and turned into evil demons, sone as good gods. The demons wanted control and want to pass to the next dimension as immortaility is torture. So the gods trapped them in human form and they hid away, while the world slowly looked after itself and legend became myth.  Eventually in history the demons, in human form gathered in secret amongst the medieval world of chaos to hunt down the gods to free themselves of flesh and move on. They secretly search for the relics and find people who may be offspring of the gods, by evil methods like snatching and mutilating bodies, causing hell in the medieval world seeking information. They are seeking any sign for the gods but at the sane time they try to take control and power in the most brutal way.      The story is about the present day, where a research facility above a now icy mountain that once housed a medieval town has found a way of reliving and simulating the past in 3 dimensions. They are aiming to find out as much about and to try and hunt down the demons and do good for the benefit and safety of the earth. They take in 2 or 3 main characters and they use the simulation, as they had ancestors there and then. Throughout the story they witness and relive the events their ancestors witnessed and bring info home about the zodiac legend home from this 14th century land.  At the end they find out where a few of the relics and hiding gods reside, and they come out of the simulation for good. The main characters, practically in hostage, find out that these researchers are members of the demon clan with the excess purpose of bringing all demons together as they have a couple here- one still like the manager in human form. They find this out by seeing the chamber of mutilations and death downstairs.  The second book starts with the main characters going to a secret much bigger, much more organised and amazing high tech company in the deserts of the middle east. They have a quick look into the future as a descendant machine, seeing the world has turned to dust ash and hell all dead. This story is a race against time and the demons now using the info they gathered to find the relics and restore the gods. 12 relics are needed in one place, for judgement time. This company, in favour of the good gods have amazing machines, even one helpful weapon as a suit which can freeze and slow time to outwit enemies. They must cross elemental areas of our world to seek the lost gods and relics while the world starts to fall apart as demons, some in true form, take control as the future prediction predicted.       For example the demon of libra can eliminate law and order, sending us into a world of crime and death.  Then the third book witnesses the terrible fate the world comes too but obviously they sort it out somehow, together with insight, the company...    more

Resolved Question: What animated movie is this?

Hi! I need help finding out which animated movie is this. I'll try my best to describe it as accurately as possible. This movie has the around the same style as The Hunchback of Notre Dame movie (animated of course). I saw it a while ago, could be as much as 8-10 years ago. I remember bits and pieces from the movie and hopefully that will help. Description: The story happens Medieval times (or something along those lines) in a town. It starts off with a look at a past event. A jester (or a robber disguised as jester) is running from a mob. What the jester did, and this is probably revealed later in the movie, is that he stole a pouch of gold from a king or lord. Anyway, the jester and the mob stops on a bridge. The jester takes out an instrument that has a crank (I don't know if links to deviantart are allowed, but if they are, I believe the instrument looks like what the guy in this drawing is holding: http://zubby.deviantart.com/art/Zork-Organ-Grinder-131221038 ). Suddenly, the mob starts dancing uncontrollably. After that, something terrible happens (like the bridge breaks down or something) and both the mob and the jester die (I think we only see them plunging to their deaths, the king/lord was part of the mob too I think). Several years past and we come to the current timeline. I only remember parts of the movie after that. The main protagonist of the story is, I believe, a young man. Another important character is his father or grandfather (most likely the latter, he looked old) who is a clockmaker (really not sure about that one) or repairs something like that. One important thing about him is that he has this huge instrument or machine (I'm incline to think it's an organ, but I don't remember him playing on a keyboard of any sort, plus as you'll see, it has a huge crank). When he starts playing the instrument/machine, the ghost of the people who died on the bridge appear on the new bridge (at first, they're all identical as they are all wearing black cloaks). Later in the movie, the grandfather/father finds a huge crank on the instrument. I clearly remember him making a strenuous effort to turn the big crank (with both hands) at some point in the movie. When he plays it with the big crank, the ghosts on the bridge become even more real. You can distinguish each one of them dancing and singing. Also, at some point, the pouch of gold comes out of the instrument and the grandfather uses it to pay a tax collector or a debt of his. I think the guy that takes the money comes several times to him demanding the money in the movie. Well, that's pretty much it. There may be some inaccuracies though, I saw this a while ago when I was a kid. I don't think it's a disney movie as I checked the list of disney movies on wikipedia (it's been driving me nuts). Any help with this would be much appreciatedThank you for your answer Connor C. Unfortunately, I checked it and that's not it. The film is not 3D but 2D, and this one is too recent. more

Resolved Question: Did aztec warriors train martial arts? If so, what was/were they called?

"Calpolli The calpolli (from Nahuatl calpōlli meaning "big house") was a political unit composed of several interrelated family groups. The exact nature of the calpolli is not completely understood and it has been variously described as a kind of clan, a town, a ward, a parish or an agriculture based cooperative.[7]. In Nahuatl another word for calpolli was tlaxilacalli - "a partition of houses"." The calpolli was centered around the local chief (calpōleh), to whom its members were normally related and he provided the calpolli members with lands for cultivation (calpōllālli) or with access to non-agricultural occupations in exchange for tribute and loyalty. [8] The calpolli also ran a temple where the adoration of the deity of the calpolli was performed and a school called the Telpochcalli where young men were trained, mostly in martial arts. In some Aztec citystates calpollis were specialised in a trade, which was practiced by all of its members, and these calpollis functioned something like a medieval trade guild. This was the case in Otompan[9] and in Texcoco and Tlatelolco.[10] Other calpollis were composed of immigrant groups from other areas of Mesoamerica who settled together in a tightly knit community when they arrived in their new home city - for example there is evidence that Tenochtitlan had calpollis composed of Otomis, Mixtecs and Tlapanecs.[11] more

Resolved Question: Is there anybody who would date a guy like me?

-I'm 16, brown hair, blue eyes. -I'm an only child being raised solely by my mother in a cottage on the outskirts of a town. She's a very timid and sensitive woman who had me in her very early 20's. -I have a structural problem which causes chronic urinary incontinence, so I have to wear diapers. I'm very self-conscious of it. -I am extremely timid and I feel very different from other guys. My two closest friends are girls, and in general I've always felt like I could relate more to girls than to guys. But towards the girl I like, I just feel really, really shy - every so often, I'd want to go up to her and compliment her, but when I try, I wind up blushing. -I try to be polite: I open doors for people and pull out chairs, and always remember to say "please" and "thank you." -I'm deeply, sickly, hopelessly romantic - I love watching romantic movies (in secret), I write love poems, and I still enjoy fairy tales like Beauty and the Beast or Snow White. I dream of cuddling with a girl at night, and giving her flowers, and reading her love poems. -I generally do very well in school. -The only sexual attractions I have to girls are fetishes. I have a very strong fetish for pantyhose (or to a lesser extent, tights) and heels, and other attractions include curly hair, pretty dresses, sweaters, skirts. But I can only be turned on by those things if the rest of their outfit is conservative. I have minimal attraction to breasts and I'm not super attracted to @ss or bare legs. -I'm also a fan of medieval things. Sometimes when I'm alone I dress up in a tunic with white hose and silk shoes. It is something I'm a bit embarrassed of. -And no, before anybody says anything, I'm not gay (not that I have anything against people who are). I have no sexual attraction to guys. more

Your choices of places to head to :a tavern full bikers,a junkyard in which you had control over a the machine that moves the cars in the junkyard, ~ dogs barking in the junkyard constantly 2.) In this game you are in a medieval town where you are trying to uncover clues to get your way into the castle. There's a scene where you turn over an shiprecked boat to find clues, visit a town and talk to vendors, and also a path with a tree near the castle. These clues are terrible, I'm sorry! They would be made/played 97-00. Help & thank you!!!!It was on WINDOWS more

Resolved Question: Help! What do you think of these names?

Now i'm not having a kid anytime soon, but I write and draw comics as a hobby and I need a little help with deciding on a proper name to fit my few very important characters. The descriptions are short because I don't want to keep you here forever, but should help. Also, you don't have to help me with all the names, if its just one you'd like to read then feel free, but I do need a lot of help on the First boy, his name is causing corruption among my friends... For the main character: Female - 13 yrs. - Naminé (Naw-me-nay) - Tala - Dyani Or anything else unusual you can think up. I do favor Naminé, but everyones messing up her name so maybe its better to appeal to the public other than myself... Playful, outgoing, mischievous and kind of a brat, this child is always bouncing off the walls and making trouble. She is envy ed for her beauty and tomboyish nature and always manages to make a friend wherever she goes. Male - 13 yrs. - Enoki - Dekan - Erik - Dante Again, if you have a suggestion be free to tell me. This lad is as calm and quiet as the sea, until he finds trouble to be made, he considers himself a ladies man, but really has so much more to learn. Male - 13 yrs. ( Twin to girl above.... if that has any revelance...) - Akuma - Sike - Akule - Gnash If you do suggest though, I ask it be an unusual medieval kind of name.... Cool, calm, quiet and mostly grumpy this boy looks more man than child, but that's just strengthens his character. Extremely lazy but also wanted by every girl in town. (He really could care less) Male - 13 yrs. - Ciaran - Emil - Eden - Ansel A quiet, shy boy who mainly keeps to himself, unless he's dragged along in a hair brained scheme his friends managed to think up. Female - 13 yrs. - Aya - Mayka - Maya - Ayasha A sweet, joyful girl who is always optimistic and happy, though she can be annoying she never has a frown upon her face and believes rainy days only exist if you let them. Male - 5 yrs. - Denahi (Den-naw-hee) - Howi - Neko An talkative little boy who is like a tag along little brother, he always relys on people and is kinda a crybaby. Holy Geez that was long, I'm sorry! Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! ;D more

Resolved Question: How can I find a good free online multiplayer game? Or can you tell me some good ones?

I need to find a good free online multiplayer game. I am fine with downloading but i want a game I can play with friends who live in other cities. I hate sites with a super long list because it is very time-consuming looking through each game. I have already tried Wizard 101, Pirates of the Caribbean, Toon Town, and others like neopets, mara pets, millsberry, runescape and stuff. I am open to many types of games as you can tell. I don't like those games that are just copies of neopets with slight differences. I like old medieval type games and I am not always in the mood to fight monsters and stuff. I hate going to "dungeons" it feels too old-school, all the small RPGs use them. It would be cool if there was a game, though I am sure there isn't but possibly one like it, where you can be a princess or queen of a kingdom and like make important desicions but I want it Single Player and like being able to move your character is a BIGGY but not old-school like a grid on the floor and you have to move square by square. Please post it if you know a game like that and if possible post a list of games with what it is about and a link to its main website. more

Voting Question: I need help with my novel. This is all I have so far. What should happen next? Any advice on word choice? Thx!?

Medieval Tymes By ****************************** Warrios flung forward with his sword sticking out and pierced his opponent in the heart. Warrios won the fight! "Luke, time for dinner." His mom shouted from the kitchen, so Luke logged off of his game, Medieval Tymes, promising himself he would come back after dinner. He ran out of his room, down the hall, and down the long staircase to the kitchen table and sat down just as his mom, wearing oven mitts, set a hot plate right in the center of the table. "Yes! Lasagna, my favorite!" Luke filled his plate hurriedly, wishing he could play Medieval Tymes and eat lasagna both at the same time. Ravenously, he gobbled his lasagna. "Mom?" He asked, filling his glass with icy lemonade. "Hm?" She replied, scrubbing the dishes left from that day's breakfast. "I'm going to go play Medieval Tymes. Bye!" Luke grabbed his drink and raced up the staircase, sloshing lemonade everywhere. He heard his mother groan, but was already signing in. Username: Warrios Password: ******* He clicked the words "Log in" and he saw his character, Warrios, standing outside of the combat arena, right where he left off last. Warrios ran to storage an got 500 gold coins then ran to the town blacksmith. He paid the blacksmith the 500 coins for iron armor and put it on. Warrios ran down a dirt path, trying to find creatures to kill. He was almost to the next town when he saw a black portal. Warrios clicked on it and a screen popped up, saying "Warning" on the top in bold, red letters. He didn't read the rest. Warrios looked at the bottom and it said "Enter if you dare" and "Do not enter" He clicked on "Enter if you dare" and the portal grew larger and larger, swirling so fast that Luke got dizzy. It reached out of the computer and started pulling Luke in but he couldn't fight it. He flew into the computer, then through it. Luke started screaming and the next thing he knew, he was sitting down. Luke got up and looked around. He was wearing armor. Iron armor. The same armor Warrios was wearing. He looked at the town and noticed that he was in his computer game! Luke didn't know what to do. He was breathless. Luke heard a buzzing sound deep in his ear. It was the same sound he got when he got a private message (PM for short). The next thing he knew, there were thick, black words across his eyes that only he could see. He turned his head but the words stayed in the same place of his eye. it said "Hey Warrios-From Octavius202" Luke did not know how to reply so he asked a guy walking around. Luke had a deep, computer-like voice. "How do I reply to private messages?" "You click on the message you received, or click on the person's name from your friend's list. Duh." The man replied. He had the same voice as Luke. "How do I click the message?" "You move your mouse and-" "Never mind." Luke tried for a few minutes and then he saw the little arrow in the corner of his eye. He tried touching it, but that only resulted in him poking his eye. Luke thought of moving it and then it moved. The cursor slid all around. Luke got the hang of it and moved it to his friends list. He thought of clicking and…It worked! Luke replied to the private message he received. “Hey Octavius202.” Suddenly, Luke realized something. He was much taller and stronger than normal. Luke figured it out: He didn’t just get sucked into the computer game; he got sucked into Warrios’ body! He wasn’t Luke any more, he was Warrios! That means he was the strongest, most respected person in all of Calarax, the kingdom that Warrios lives in. Luke kept running down the dirt path until he saw a familiar person. It was Octavius202. “Hey Warrios!” It said above his head. He had the same voice as Luke did right now. “Hello Octavius202.” Luke said in the random default computer voice, the same as Octavius202. “Octavius, I got sucked into this computer game!” “I know what you mean Warrios! Me too! This game is so fun!” “No, that’s not what I mean! I went through this portal and the next thing I knew, I was sitting in the middle of Calarax!” “Oh my gosh! I never thought I would find someone with that same problem. What a coincidence. I got sucked into the computer game, too. I was just minding my own business when I saw a black portal. I thought maybe it was some kind of event. I thought that the Grim Reaper wanted me to do something, but no, I was very wrong. A swirling vortex came out of the computer and started pulling me in. I tried fighting it. I lasted five minutes fighting it but I couldn’t last much longer. I got pulled in. I opened my eyes while I was inside and I saw darkness all around me. I blinked and the next thing I know, I’m sitting right in front of the portal, then it slowly disappeared.” “Well, I didn’t put up much of a fight. I lasted three seconds fighting it. I didn’t open my eyes when I was inside of the portal. All more

Resolved Question: Could someone check my holiday related spanish speaking answers?

Hi, I have my spanish speaking exam on monday, but I didn't get a chance to ask my teacher to check over some of my answers. I think the basics for these are right, it's just the grammar and smaller details and such. I just thought I'd get a second opinion to make sure I'm learning the right stuff (and I'm sure a GCSE level spanish student shouldn't really be trusted to get everything right). These are my answers in spanish, and the the english is below. 1)Prefiero viajar en tren porque es facil de utilizer, comodo y bastante barato. I prefer to travel my train because it is easy to use, comfortable and quite cheap. 2)My familia tiene una villa en Grecia porque hace buen tiempo, y las personas son muy corteses y generosas. My family have a villa in Greece because the weather is good there, and the peple are very polite and generous. We visited many monuments in Greece, por example the Old Town, which is the oldrest medieval town in Europe. I think it was very interesting and beautiful. But my favourite monument was the Acropolis of Lindos, because it was not like anything I had seen before. 4) Me voy a Granada con mi madre, padre y mi amigo. My hermano se habria unido a nosotros, sino que se va de vacaciones con su amigo, al mismo tiempo. I am gonig to Granada with my mum, dad and my friend. My brother would usually join us, but he is going on holiday with his friend at the same time. 5) Visite Espana hace dos anos con mi familia. Permaneci en un hotel cerca de Madrid, donde habia muchas atraciones y monumentos de ver. Yo lo pase muy bien. I visited Spain two years ago with my family. We stayed in a hotel near Madrid, where there were many attractions and monuments to see. I had a good time. 6)Mis vacaciones ideales serian en Laponia en Navidad, porque me encanta el ambiente festivo y no estaria como cualquier otras vacaciones. My ideal holiday would be in Lapland at Christmas, because I love the festive atmosphere and it would not be like any other holiday. I'm sure there are many mistakes in there (especially number 3) and it would be boring for you to look at all of them, but even if you can just give me a bit of guidance with one of them it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Why do people say Disney's animated movies lack diversity?

If you look at where the movies are set you notice something else. They are set in: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs = Germany Pinocchio = Italy Fantasia = Ambiguous The "packaged" movies = Latin America Dumbo = USA Bambi = Austria Cinderella = France Alice in Wonderland = rural England Peter Pan = London, England Lady and the Tramp = USA Sleeping Beauty = France One Hundred and One Dalmatians = London, England The Sword in the Stone = medieval England The Jungle Book = India The Aristocats = Paris, France (1910) Robin Hood = Nottingham, England (~1100) The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh = England The Rescuers = New York, USA (one of the characters is Hungarian) The Fox and the Hound = Ambiguous The Black Cauldron = Wales The Great Mouse Detective = Victorian London (one of the characters is Scottish) Oliver & Company = New York City, USA The Little Mermaid = Denmark The Rescuers Down Under = Australian outback Beauty and the Beast = rural France Aladdin = Arabia The Lion King = southern Africa Pocahontas = United Kingdom/Native American land The Hunchback of Notre Dame = Paris, France (several of the characters are Romani (gypsies)) Hercules = Ancient Greece Mulan = China Tarzan = West Africa Dinosaur = pre-historic setting of what is now Venezuela The Emperor's New Groove = Inca empire (now modern day Peru) Atlantis: The Lost Empire = Island of Atlantis (characters who are Atlantean/American/French/Italian) Lilo & Stitch = Hawaii Treasure Planet = South-west England mid 18th century/Caribbean Brother Bear = post Ice Age North America (some characters are Native Americans) Home on the Range = American West Chicken Little = Small-town America Meet the Robinsons = America in the future Bolt = Hollywood/New York City/Las Vegas And the next one out is the Princess and the Frog which is set in New Orleans with African-American characters. But why are some people seriously saying Disney lacked diversity before this? Do they seriously believe that all whites are the same? Are they choosing to ignore other Disney movies with non-white characters?@David: 0.0 I guess you've missed the storm that has come since the announcement of TPATF. ;D more

Resolved Question: How ignorant is the Obama administration to ignore the four massive holes in man-made global warming "science"?

According to scientist John Hawkins the massive flaws in man-made global warming are: (1) Climate change has been around as long as the earth: If you listen to global warming alarmists, you'd think the climate had been a flat line until mankind started industrializing, after which the temperature rocketed straight upwards. The reality is far different. The warming before our last ice age was much warmer than anything we've had since. We had a warming that peaked 9000 years ago, another warming that peaked 5000 years ago. Both were warmer than today. Probably the Roman warming and the medieval warming were both warmer than today -- and we've had 8 warmings of the earth since the last Ice Age. (2) The earth was cooling from roughly 1940-1976: Despite the fact that widespread industrialization was occurring during that 30 year time period, temperatures dropped so much that there were claims we were going into a dangerous period of "global cooling." If global temperatures are tightly bound to man-made greenhouse gasses and those gasses were being rapidly introduced to the atmosphere, then the earth should have been warming, not cooling during that period. (3) So, if it's global warming, why isn't there any warming occurring now? One of the many revelations from Climategate is that behind-the-scenes, scientists who buy into man-made global warming are admitting what skeptics have been saying publicly for years now: The globe has been cooling since 1998. Again, if global warming has its bootlaces hitched to the amount of man-made greenhouse gasses that are being produced and those numbers are increasing, why hasn't the temperature gone up as well? There's a simple answer: Man-made greenhouse gasses are not a decisive factor in raising or lowering the temperature of the earth. (4) Climate models can't accurately project the weather 100 years in the future: The truth is that we don't fully understand how our planet's climate works and thus, our climate models don't work very well. Since the climate models can't explain the climate over the last 25 years and they can't explain the leveling off of temperature since 1998, why would anyone believe they can predict conditions in 100 years? As computer programmers say, "garbage in, garbage out." [Excerpted from his recent article at Town Hall dot com.]Who determines who is a scientist? I, for example, am a polymath. Consider teh following biographical description: "He was essentially of the type of scholar and investigator who seems to feel no need of personal contacts with others. While the few who knew him speak of the pleasure of his companionship in frequent tramps over the country surrounding Washington, he was apparently quite happy alone, whether at work or taking recreation." Would such a man be considered a scientist, today? That's http://www-history.mcs.st-andrews.ac.uk/Biographies/Hill.html How about the Reverend William Fox, or Thomas Edison? Or Benjamin Franklin. Or our day likely none of these men would be considered official scientists. And that's really a big part of the problem with "science" today, and why frauds like this AGW develop. more

I was reading a Dream of Eagles by Jack Whyte and they set up a colony, Camelot, in the main characters villa. What I was wondering was this: Is there a colony in today's world that is based off a medieval town? I'm talking full blown medieval town with smithy, baker, main hall, hosues, market place, etc. IS there such a thing? I'm not talking about those tourist places that are just made to look like a medieval town, but a town itself where people live in it everydayGuys...medieval. Stop giving me smart ass answers more

Resolved Question: Name of old Cartoon Movie about building a Medieval Castle?

This movie often used as an educational video is part cartoon, and part two people speaking about castles. The story is about a king who begins building a castle in England, the film talks about the defensive tactics and architecture invented in castles, the advacenements in sewage. It's rather old I would date it late 70's early 80's. The two real people who talk during the movie are a man and woman, she is wearing a plaid skirt. It's a rather funny cartoon, other things I remember about it are the discussion of a chapel being build for the lady of the castle...murder holes...there is a cartoon smith who is happy with the way the town is developing. Anyway I'm looking for the title of the film so that I may purchase it. Thank you for any help =) more

Resolved Question: can you help me find this market town?

I saw a picture of a small town, there was a large tarmac market square and in the square there was at least one defencive tower type thing very small only approximately 12ft tall. It looked medieval but could even be modern temporary thing just for show. To the right behind quite old looking shop fronts was a church with a tall steeple and straight in front amongst old houses/shops was a small church/chapel with a very low, blunt pyramid shaped steeple. Outside the town within quite long walking distance was a large field where a fair or event was going on, there was a very high fence at the entrance. I suspect the picture was from the 70's definitely before 1981 and i get the feeling it is in Ireland although it could be anywhere in Britain. I Know this is a poor description but i thought someone might know what i am talking about. I no longer have access to the picture more
