Whenever I see an American TV show I always see them leaving tips.. Plus, there's this American guy at my school and when he first came here he was like, "You don't give tips here?!" Furthermore, my sister went on a tour of NZ and she said there was an American guy in her group who was always calculating tips, trying to give 15% or something. Forgive me if i'm wrong here, but it seems that all Americans give tips to their service personnel and others i'm sure... Where I live we always try to pay less than we have to eg. Muffin = $5.80 but we give $3 in our own money and the rest in New Zealand money (which looks the same). It's wrong and pretty pointless, but trust me when I say I myself don't do it... So i'm wondering, why do Americans feel the need to give tips when in other countries we don't even want to pay the minimum?No, we don't give tips. I'm saying we only pay $3 when it is $5.80. My son and I are coming to NZ in 2011. Don't have a ton of money to spend..most of the hiking tours that I've seen are $800-2000 per person...Would like to find a way of getting in some fabulous hikes without spending thousands. We don't need all the fluff..just want to get out on the trails with a little guidance. Hope to see both islands..spending maybe 15 days or so..thx.The companies that I have looked at so far (ie. Active New Zealand, and others), are very expensive..however, they do offer other activities in conjunction with hiking? since you've done some tramping there, can you tell me did you go out on your own or join a group? If you did go with a group, what's the name? Thanks,Thks for the input..that's the type of info I was looking for..from someone that's done it. The reason I was looking for a company is because I'll be travelling along (female) w/my 14 yr old son. Here at home, I'm not nervous about heading out into the wilderness just the two of us..but flying aross the world and into a totally new area makes me a lot more cautious. If I was going w/a few friends, I'd have no problem just letting adventure happen, but I want to be more prepared when my son's involved. I'd much prefer going off on our own....so the info that I've received so far here will be a great help with planning. In the past decade Australia played 20 Tests against India but only 7 against Sri Lanka, looking at ICC future tours program this is not going to change anytime soon, they have Test matches scheduled against Pakistan and Bangladesh next year and India and Bangladesh in 2011, and 3 Tests against Sri Lanka in August-September 2011, then probably another series in India in 2012, why the huge difference, Sri Lanka is rated higher than Pakistan, West Indies and New Zealand but are lucky to get a 3 week tour once or twice a decade? more

Pakistan's regular captain Younis Khan seems unlikely to make his comeback with the tour of Australia starting next month after skipping the country's premier first-class tournament because of a freak accident. Younis, who is a fishing fanatic, injured his foot after slipping on a sharp-edged stone while indulging in his favourite hobby at a fishing spot near his Karachi residence. According to sources close to Younis, the injury is not of a serious nature. However, it was because of the accident that Younis decided against playing in the ninth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy - Pakistan's biggest domestic tournament - which got underway Thursday. Younis was to lead group A leaders Habib Bank in the tournament. His decision to stay away from the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy though the national selectors want him to play in the event to prove his form, has put question mark on his chances of returning to the Pakistan team on its tour of Australia, which will start with the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne from Nov 26. Karachi, Nov.17 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to decide whether to send middle order batsman Misbah-ul-Haq as Younus Khan's replacement for the New Zealand Test series or not. PCB's selection committee chairman Iqbal Qasim said the final decision regarding Khan's replacement would be taken after discussing the issue with board chairman Ijaz Butt. "Once the chairman returns home we will discuss the matter with him before deciding on naming a replacement for Younus," The Dawn quoted Qasim, as saying. Reports in the media suggested that Misbah has already been roped in as Khan's replacement for the three match Test series starting November 24. Earlier, captain Mohammad Yousuf had also backed Misbah for the series, saying the team needs his experience to fill in the gap created in the middle order following Younus Khan's absence. "Our team is fine, but I have asked the board for Misbah-ul-Haq to fill the gap that has appeared in the middle order as Younus would not be playing in the series," Yousuf said. Yousuf said Misbah has been performing well in the domestic season and has done well at the international level in the past, so must be there on the Kiwi tour. "He (Misbah) is a good batsman and I think he would prove helpful for the team. He has been playing well in domestic cricket and I hope he would also perform well in the series against New Zealand," he said. A friend and I are on our way home to Australia and New Zealand. We are heading from London to New York in mid December. From there we have a month before we catch flights onwards to Australia and New Zealand. We were thinking New York to Washington DC, Chicago, Miami and onto Las Vegas then LA. Resolved Question: Can I leave Singapore Airport whilst in transit? Do I need a visa?

Hi, I'm going to New Zealand soon and on my return I have a 15 hour wait at Singapore Airport. I arrive just too late to take advantage of the free tours (5.15pm) but early enough to venture into Singapore and see the city by night and have some food. Am I able to leave the airport for a few hours to do this? I've read that I may need a visa to go into Singapore and that there are also Airport taxes to pay on re-entering the airport. Can anyone give me some advice on leaving the airport? I only want to go out for a short visit as I don't want to be there on my own too late into the night. I am considering finding a tour guide or asking some family friends who I know have friends living in Singapore to perhaps show me around/have dinner with. It would be great to add an additional city to my trip!! more

My widowed mum wants to see new zealand for her 60th birthday but cant decide on which tour company to go with she wants to see both islands and one that goes to the abel tasman national park,shes scared that everybody on these sorts of tours will be in couple and shell feel left out! The story goes like this.. on a recent trip i went to Egypt, and took a tour, got along well with the tour guide, on the last night ended up sleeping with him. This is just me being on holiday and having fun, hes a very good looking man, and he was chasing me for a while, so why not have fun right, im on holiday its not reality, and we was chasing me for a few days, on the last night i give in. So ive heard all about egyptian men and foriegn women. Ok, so he is married already to an egyptian lady and has one baby. Ok yes i shouldnt have sex with men who are married, so dont tell me anything about that. We became 'facebook friends' and began chatting on there, then on to msn, and then he is calling me everyday and chatting online. He tells me he is in love with me and he misses me and he hates it when he cant talk to me. I have fallen for him, and cant wait for the time of day where he calls me or i call him, i plan on going back to egypt to spend more time with him next month. the last couple of days he is on break from his tours and is spending some time with his family, so i cant talk to him, and its driving me insane. I live in New Zealand not America. My heart aches for him now, though I dont know and im confused to what he wants from me, I asked him and he said he wants to love me.I know in the future i will have my heart broken, where will it end up? its been two months now. he is married, though this marrige he says is a pitty marrige. Hi there! I'm from Brazil and I'm fanatic for The Lord of the Rings. The book is awesome, but as we say here "an image worths more than a thousand of words". I had never seen any image from New Zealand, but when I watched LotR it was one of the most beautiful places I've seen before. I knew those places showed on the movie are far from each other and I was trying to looking for them by Google Earth, but it had no good result. Then I think that's the best place to ask to the people from New Zealand: What are all places in New Zealand which were filmed The Lord of the Rings (the trilogy)?
