Open Question: Is this deserving of a trip to Europe, and is my mom being reasonable?!?
I'm a sophomore in high school, and my grades and classes are as follows: PE (A+), AP Biology (A-), Algebra 2 Accelerated (A+), AP World History (B+/0.31% away from an A), English Accelerated (B-), and AP Spanish (B+/0.5% away from an A-). So considering my classes, I have a 4.0 GPA, but I could do a little better in English if it weren't for my b*tchy English teacher. So my school is doing a trip to Europe to England, France, and Spain for 2 weeks, and I've never been traveling (literally). So since my grades are not good enough for my mom's lunatic standards, she doesnt think I deserve to go on that trip (even though we can afford it). She expects at least an A- in ALL of my classes, even the AP classes, and she says that my grades and a change in my attitude (which is a result of her b*tching about my grades) is my ticket to Europe. My question is that do you guys think its reasonable for her to put so many limitations on me when (a) Europe is like once in a lifetime, (b) I'm doing very good and have a 4.0 GPA, and (c) The year just started, and my grades in December are what the colleges care about? I know that she wants the best for me, I get that, but it doesn't justify her yelling at me and threatening to put me in regular classes. I have such a high ambition to go to Europe, I love the culture, and her not letting me go over "bad grades" according to her, is stupid! She never even graduated from high school! How do I convince her to let me go?!?!She said she's not willing to sacrifice the money if I dont put in my part, which is stupid... I've always wanted to go and now that I have the chance she won't let me go, unless I get even better grades :'(And its not like I'm a hormonal teen, she just places so much pressure when I know what I have to do. I know attitudes dont get me anywhere, but she has an attitude too... trust me, she's almost bipolar, she will go off on me at any second. Yes its her decision, but its pointless to not let me go if its just about my grades, which aren't even that bad. moreOpen Question: How to make a self-propelled car?
I need this for an AP Physics class. The car must travel 20 meters and contain no batteries or compressed air. The only thing we can use is mechanical power or rubber bands. Please give a step-by-step way of achieving this. moreOpen Question: is this a good conclusion?
okay this is my conclusion to an essay i wrote for slaughter-house five im going to be a junior in high school and am taking AP English, i would just like some imput on maybe how to word something differently, other vocab options and that sort of thing. Thank you all who take the time to answer this!:) In the end, Billy Pilgrim’s experience in witnessing the world marked by war and destruction forces the reader to question the truth of free will, time, and suffering. The world and everyone in it is full of flaws, and the only way to move on is to accept and look beyond them, but is it possible to quit the fight against the things that are an inevitable part of life without an explanation? Free will is questioned by the philosophy of the Tralfamadorian’s, which states that humans have no control over the past, present or future. Since Billy has always lacked control over his life, he uses this to justify why he hasn’t been able to choose a life of stability. If free will existed than one couldn’t ignore war since it is caused by humans, but if war is supposed to happen then there is nothing to do about it. Time is ongoing and what happens in it cannot be erased, such as the experience of war that caused Billy to lose his sanity. Billy travels through the moments in his life when something stressful is about to take place. If he cannot let go of the past he can’t avoid “traveling” to it. Suffering is the price of human’s imperfection. Looking at Billy’s fractured life, the reader notices that Billy suffers the most damage and unhappiness, even though one would think that surviving the incineration of a city would give him the desire to make the most of his life. War is an event that altars the futures history, and will always repeat its self even thought it’s unnecessary and results in the senseless massacre of innocent people. Although human’s greed and arrogance is what causes suffering, loss of options, and innocent people to live with the consequences of past’s decisions, it is not enough to accept it, but to search for meaning of what one fears most. moreOpen Question: At what height above the ground will the two objects pass each other?
Please help this is for my ap physics class. Please I am really confused and I need help. 1. An object is thrown downward with an initial speed of 6 m/s from a height of 43 m above the ground. Tamaulipas state security officials did not answer phone calls seeking comment. Some cartels have been known to carry out targeted shootings that kill the intended victim, but not children riding in the same vehicle. Leal Garcia's daughter was reportedly shot in the leg. Tamaulipas has seen at least two other killings of political figures this year. Rodolfo Torre, the front-running candidate for the state's governorship, was gunned down on a highway June 28, and in May, gunmen killed a candidate for mayor of the town of Valle Hermoso. Calderon's administration promised to increase security in the area after a series of explosive devices were detonated in the Tamaulipas capital: Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas. The Interior Department said it "energetically condemned" the explosions in Reynosa, but did not confirm local media reports that the explosions were caused by three hand grenades and that they had wounded roughly a dozen people. The department confirmed there were some victims, and offered to help them. The Reynosa city government said on its Twitter site that "an explosive device" detonated downtown near the La Quebradita bar on Saturday, and advised residents to stay out of the area. Cross-border traffic was not affected. The slaughter of the migrants was discovered last Tuesday in San Fernando, a town near Reynosa. The Central and South Americans were apparently killed after they refused to work for the gang. Drug gangs have branched out into human trafficking for extortion and to recruit members. Thirty-five had been identified by Sunday: 16 Hondurans, 13 Salvadorans, five Guatemalans and a Brazilian. Documents belonging to another Brazilian man were found at the scene of the killings, but his body has not been identified. The lone survivor, an Ecuadorean, escaped and reported the slaughter to the Mexican military. Diplomats from the victims' home countries have traveled to Tamaulipas to get firsthand reports on the identification efforts. Most of those identified so far carried documents. But bodies found without documents present a much bigger challenge. Guatemala offered to send a plane to pick up five victims identified so far from that country. Families of three said they received telephone calls earlier in the month demanding $2,000 for their relatives' release. Guatemala's foreign ministry said it was still trying to contact families of the other two dead. Migrants hopping freight trains through Mexico to get to the United States are often subjected to kidnappings, beatings and extortion along the way. A group of them protested Saturday in the railroad town of Arriaga in southern Chiapas state, where many migrants cross the border from Guatemala. The Rev. Hayman Vazquez, a Roman Catholic priest who runs the Casa del Migrante shelter in Arriaga, said about 120 people marched along the railroad tracks to the city hall with banners reading "Please respect us," and "The kidnapping of migrants in Mexico is a humanitarian tragedy." Vazquez said undocumented migrants continued to arrive at the shelter this week. Even when told of the massacre, most said they would still try to reach the U.S. because there are no opportunities in their home countries, he said. Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes said Saturday he wants to meet with Mexico's Calderon to coordinate efforts to combat drug violence. More than 28,000 Mexicans have been killed in drug-related violence since Calderon launched an offensive against the cartels in late 2006. "This war is not going to be won using the tools and methods traditionally used to fight crime," Funes said. "The challenge posed by the criminals requires other responses, other weapons, and intelligence." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100830/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_drug_war_mexico moreVoting Question: need help on AP physics question please?

Right now, my mother is single (divorced) and on Medical Disability. Because she is on MD, we get even less money a month then an average working parent. My father can't pay for child support because he's helping a daughter from a previous marriage (before my mom) pay to go to college. I have a twin brother, also, who will be going to college the same time I do (obviously, because we're twins) so, as you can see, money is unbelievably tight. My mom expects a LOT out of me. Her parents told her she'd never be able to go to college (and she was extremely poor when she was little because her parents never went to college) so she knew that she had to go, and she did. She had a friend whose parents helped pay, and then she won some scholarships and was able to recieve student loans. She went to top universities and became a computer consultant (creating programs) and she traveled the country and to other countries even with huge companies, she did all that 'til she was struck with a Brain Tumor. I want to go to college, I can't even think of myself not going. I feel like it's something I HAVE to do. I want to go into the hotel industry (business management) and work for huge hotel chains like Ritz Carlton, Hilton, and Marriotts. I love hotels, which that was actually influenced because when I was little, my mom used to travel a lot and would take me to some of the highest hotel lines around. I hope to become a hotel manager even, which I know, however, can take years. I'm a freshman in high school (just started this last monday) and I'm already taking an AP Human Geography class (our high school is now allowing freshman to take one). If I make good grades and ace the test (which is set for May 13th, Friday) then I'll earn the college credit. My goal is to get a 5, the highest score. I'm not able to work because of all the work I'm getting in my AP class. Since it's a college class, I have lots, and that means hours of studying. Even though I just started this last monday, I have my first quiz this monday (the day after tomorrow) over the first 20 pages of the textbook, which are words I don't even know, but I'm trying my hardest. **If I keep taking AP classes (which I plan to for college credit) I won't have time to even work for college. I'm only a freshman, but due to our financial position it's quite critical for me to start earning money now and keep it in a savings account. My mom is urging me to try to look for scholarships, and I know there are online scholarships I can earn through Writing Contests and other contests, etc. I know I can also win Sports Scholarships, and I'll be joining the Fillies in my school (a dance/drill team that performs at our football and basketball games, like cheerleaders in a way) so I heard that I can also get a scholarship through that. I want to go to an in-state college (UT) and I heard they had a drill team too, so hopefully I can get a scholarship for that as well. Thanks! And I'm extremely sorry that this was so long, I just thought a little background on this would be important. Anyway, thanks again for your time.*************I plan to work through college too, and since the college I want to go to is a major city, there are tons of hotels around and I can hopefully get my foot in the door by starting to work there through college. moreVoting Question: Bio AP: Ecology Unit Chapter 55?

A new movie for Superstar Rajnikanth is going to be released staring Rajnikanth and Aishvary Rai called Robot. Many years back when I was touring Cheanni, a movie with named "Padyappa" or something like that was being released, and remember people praying posters of Rajnikanth, they were poring milk on movie posters, cracking coconut in front of posters, offering garlands, entire traffic was jam, I travel across India, but I have not seen such mass hysteria anywhere else for any other movie star. May be some extend Chiranjeevee has fan following to similar extend in AP but I don't think to same extend. I don't think Superstar of Hindi Cinema has such mass following for him any where in India including his own city, and he never had even during his best days. Even today, Rajnikanth has over 100 registered fans club in India and Amitabh has only 20. At one time Rajnikanth and Kamal Hasan had completion but today, as far as name and fame is concerned, Rajnikanth is undisputed superstar of Tamil cinema. Rajanikanth is not a politician but often gives political statements that have impact, he is not a spiritual leader but sometimes gives spiritual statements and people pay attention to that. He is a real entertainer, but his most of the movies are entertaining only, unlike Kamal Hasan where he has art, or Amitabh's Paa or Black where he does experiments, still Rajnikanth is THE HERO. What is the reason for such mass fan following for Mr. Rajnikanth, the undisputed superstar of Tamil cinema, who leads in fan following to any superstar of India including Amitabh Bachhan the superstar of the millennium?Raj Kish Sir, while opening this question, I had Bull sir's avatar in my mind :), I was expecting him to write a an elaborate answer on this subject, and I was expecting me to select his answer as a best answer, I had made up my mind before even opening the question that Mr. Bull is my BA candidate for this question :) But Mr. Bull does not give me opportunity. Just a joke guys, don't take seriously... I have not said Rajnikanth is a better actor than others, like in Hindi Cinema, AB is not better actor than Om Puri or Nasiruddin Shah though he is better entertainer. Same way, Kamal Hasan is better actor than Rajani, but not a better entertainer. I like both. I am Rajnikanth's fan, I don't need to understand his dialogues. moreResolved Question: What are my chances of getting into Quinnipiac?

MEXICO CITY – The parents of a Finnish activist killed when a humanitarian caravan was ambushed in a remote Indian region of Mexico pleaded on Tuesday for justice in the case. Jyri Antero Jaakkola, 33, was slain April 27 along with a Mexican activist when gunmen attacked human rights observers and leftist activists attempting to reach a Triqui Indian village mired in a violent feud between rival political factions. Nobody has been arrested nearly four months later. His parents, Eeva-Leena Jaakkola and Raimo Jaakkola, traveled to Mexico to meet with prosecutors. They pleaded for President Felipe Calderon's help in pushing the case forward. "Our son died when he was trying to help people fighting for their fundamental rights. He wanted to dissuade violence with his presence as a foreigner, but they killed him," Eeva-Leena said at a news conference in Mexico City. Police rarely venture into San Juan Copala, an Indian village in the southern state of Oaxaca. The village's violence can be traced back at least 40 years to a struggle for patronage money from state political bosses in the remote Triqui Baja area of the Sierra Mixteca, where an estimated 10,000 ethnic Triquis live. The upheaval has become more pronounced over the past two years. In 2007, a leftist group of townspeople known as Multi declared themselves an "autonomous municipality," intent on running San Juan Copala without interference from state or federal authorities. They are opposed by a rival organization known as Ubisort, which Multi claims has the support of the state government. Organizers of the ill-fated caravan have accused Ubisort of being behind the attack. Ubisort denies the allegation, and some of its members have accused Multi supporters of staging the attack a ruse to gain public sympathy. In May, Multi leader Timoteo Alejandro Ramirez and his wife were killed by gunmen. Last month, local Ubisort leader Anastasio Juarez Hernandez was shot to death. Both sides accuse each other in those deaths, and neither case has been resolved. The London-based human rights organization Amnesty International joined Jaakkola's parents in demanding justice. Alberto Herrera, Amnesty's representative in Mexico, said the case was emblematic of the impunity surrounding attacks on human rights activists in Mexico. "If the authorities are committed to end impunity in attacks against human rights defenders they should show it," Herrera said at the news conference. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100824/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_mexico_caravan_attacked moreResolved Question: ap physics , i need help please ?

I know some parts of your brain control some specific skills, and I get the whole right brain left brain thing. But my brain almost seems unbalanced somehow. So I'm a very artistic, creative, and intelligent person. But I can not draw at all, and I'm also very weak at math. I have a terrible time remembering names and faces, as well as numbers. Sometimes I can't remember the name of a band I've listened to for a year, or an aquaintence I've met many, many times. I also have an extremely weak memory in terms of events, order of events, and timelines. I don't remember most of my childhood, and I can't tell if something happened 2 years ago or 5. On the other hand, I'm incredibly good at various types of design. I can see things in layouts and perspectives that others can't see, and therefore come up with a really stand out visual representations. I'm great at all arts that don't require drawing and painting- things like fashion design, layouts, computer illustration (since the computer can draw for me!), and photography. I'm also very good in English, foriegn languages, philosophy, and some sciences (the not too mathy ones). What's wierd is I totally get concepts like the ones in the latest quantum physics theories without understanding the math at all. I was in a variety of 'gifted' programs in elementry school and all honors and AP classes through high school, until eventually they let me do independent study. Then I graduated, traveled, and went to art school. 6 intensive drawing classes did NOT help the drawing in any way whatsoever. There's just a mental block there, I simply can't drop down into 2 dimensions. My IQ is 120ish. Is there a single part of the brain that controls things like drawing, timelines, faces, numbers and names? I'm wondering if that part of my brain is weak and the rest might be compensating for it? moreResolved Question: Is its fair that Cabinet approves bill to hike MPs' salary? Why?
Hours after the Cabinet cleared a proposal for raising the basic salary of MPs from Rs.16,000 to Rs. 50,000, several opposition members raised the issue in the Lok Sabha in the Question Hour, saying the hike was inadequate. And, here are some more less-known facts about the Indian lawmaker: On paper, the salary of an MP in India is Rs 144,000 per year (about $3,200), which works out to just Rs 12,000 (about $266) per month. But it is meagre only if you don't consider the numerous allowances and freebies an MP is entitled to. Here is a look at the allowances and perks that every MP -- India has 790 of them --!!!!@@ Each Indian MP gets: *Rs 14,000 (about $311) for office expenses every month, which includes Rs 3,000 for stationary items, Rs 1,000 on franking of letters and Rs 10,000 for secretariat services. Rent for MP hostel at Delhi : Free *Each MP gets near-free electricity of 50,000 units every year. Maintenance of the house -- including washing of sofa covers and curtains -- is done free of cost by the government. *When an MP travels abroad officially, he is entitled to free business class air tickets. He is also paid a daily travelling allowance, which varies depending upon the country being visited. *Most medical expenses of MPs are taken care of by the Contributory Health Service Scheme of the Union government. *Each MP also gets Rs 20 million (about $434,782) each year from the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Fund. But the MP does not get the money directly. Instead, it is transferred to respective district headquarters where projects are being implemented. *TOTAL expense for a MP per year : Rs. 32,00,000 + TOTAL expense for 5 years : Rs. 1,60,00,000 + For 534 MPs, the expense for 5 years : Rs. 8,54,40,00,000 (nearly 855 cores) *After an MP completes a term in office, he is entitled to pension. where the flight attendant took the baby from the mom (does say whether it was a gesture of help or a 'hand over the baby') who "popped" her baby in the face because she kicked her while on a flight. BOSTON (AP) - A judge who granted asylum to President Barack Obama's African aunt ruled she deserved to stay in the United States because a federal government official leaked her status to a news organization, making her a potential target for persecution in her native Kenya. U.S. Immigration Judge Leonard Shapiro blasted the leak by the unnamed official in his 29-page ruling granting asylum to Zeituni Onyango in May. His written decision was released this week through the Freedom of Information Act and first was reported by The Boston Globe. Shapiro found that a federal government official disclosed Onyango's immigration status and her relationship to Obama to The Associated Press three days before the November 2008 election in which Obama was elected as the first black president. The AP's story stated that Onyango, the half sister of Obama's late father, had been living illegally in the United States after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years earlier. Information about Onyango's case was disclosed and confirmed by two sources, one of them a federal law enforcement official. Onyango, 58, has been living in public housing in Boston. Shapiro called the disclosure "a reckless and illegal violation of her right to privacy which has exposed her to great risk," and he criticized the official for using the information for political reasons. "The disclosure intentionally linked the Respondent's status as an asylum applicant with President Obama's presidential campaign, and the effect was to politicize confidential information about the Respondent which the United States government had no authority to release," Shapiro wrote. "The illegality and political ramifications of this breach were made apparent when, following the breach, President (George W.) Bush swiftly issued a directive requiring federal agents to obtain high-level approval before arresting fugitive immigrants." Shapiro found that because Onyango's identity and status were disclosed, she would be a target in Kenya not only for those who oppose the United States and Obama but for members of the Kenyan government "who oppose President Obama's politics and/or his ethnicity, which the Respondent shares." A Department of Homeland Security official speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the issue said an internal investigation launched into the leak in 2008 is expected to come to an end soon. In his ruling, Shapiro said the Department of Homeland Security acknowledged Onyango was identified in the media as an asylum applicant but did not concede the disclosure was made by a U.S. government official. DHS argued the disclosure "did not create a new risk of harm" to Onyango because the AP article did not reveal any facts about her asylum claim and because she and her attorney later gave some details about the claim to the media. The agency said the disclosure did not put her at risk, citing other family members in Kenya who have not been harmed. It also noted the Kenyan government celebrated Obama's election as president and sponsored a delegation of several family members to travel to the 2009 presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C. Shapiro, however, said Onyango's relationship to Obama is distinct from her Kenyan family members' relationships to him because she has lived in the United States since 2000 and applied for U.S. asylum. One of Onyango's Cleveland-based lawyers, Scott Bratton, said the asylum process is confidential, in part to protect people who may be sent back to their home countries. Leaking the information just before the election put Onyango at greater risk, he said. "She is known to everybody now," he said. "She is known to have applied for asylum. She's been thrust into the spotlight, and because of that she has a fear of returning." In Obama's memoir, "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance," he affectionately referred to Onyango as Auntie Zeituni and described meeting her during his 1988 trip to Kenya. Onyango's case inflamed the national debate over immigration, with some questioning whether Onyango had been given special treatment because of her relationship with the president. The White House has said Obama had no involvement in the case. Bratton also said the president played no role. "This wasn't a favor to the president," he said. "The president wasn't involved in this case at all. She went through the asylum process just like anybody else would, and the case was granted." Onyango initially came to the U.S. in 2000. Her first request for political asylum in 2002 was rejected, and she was ordered deported in 2004. But she didn't leave the country and continued to live in Boston. A judge later agreed to suspen moreResolved Question: I need opinions on my intro for my essay!!?
I need some input on the introduction to my essay. Im writing about the themes of the book slaughterhouse five. Pleas suggest any improvement or adjustments that i can add and your criticism, i will really appreciate it!:) I am going into ap english and 11th grade. title: Acceptance of Reality By accepting the imperfections of the world, one ultimately achieves resignation. This is after all not true for Billy Pilgrim, the protagonist of Slaughterhouse-Five, a novel by Kurt Vonnegut, which impales the disturbing reality of war, in particular the bombing of Dresden in World War II. This story portrays war as an unappealing massacre that killed one hundred thirty thousand innocent humans. In Vonnegut's view, war is not heroic or glamorous. It is messy, often disgusting, and it robs men of their dignity. Billy Pilgrim, a weak and foolish prisoner of war, experiences the senseless destruction of a beautiful city, death, and a pathetic intent to fight a battle of which he doesn’t understand. He is capable of realizing that the world is full with unnecessary and quite irrational destructions and death, but he is unable to understand why. Eventually Billy loses grip of reality, causing him to believe that he is "unstuck in time." He travels back and forth, repeatedly and out of order, throughout his life. He claims to have been kidnapped by aliens from the planet Tralfamadore, were he is taken and put into a galactic zoo. This is where he adapts to their philosophy without question and begins to believe, like them, in the inevitability of what has happened, is happening, and will happen. This philosophy conveys that humans have no control over the past, present or future, therefore the illusion of freewill is nonexistent. Consequently he is able to see death as unavoidable and part of a moment structured by time. This gives him reassurance and a way to understand the absurdity that happens in the universe. Billy Pilgrim’s struggling journey to understand a world marked by war’s destruction forces the reader to questions the reality of freedom, time, and suffering. moreResolved Question: does it sound like i'm loading too much on my plate?

WARNING: a lot of reading. My ex and I went out for about 2 years and in the course of one week in that span, we went from grab ass to fingering. (she hopelessly attempted handjobs but failed miserably so I just told her not too) Anyway, I fingered her 2+ times a week for our last 2 months. She then broke up w/ me for unknown reasons and went out w/ a friend of mine a week l8r. I got pissed at that becuz she was reboundig big time, he was my friend who tried to comfort me when she dumped me, and she was a horrible bitch at times and I was like the best bf ever, so I told her off. She got me too apologize, but only so she could tell me off off gaurd. I haven't spoken to her since May, but I haven't gotten ovr her. Flashbacks to fingering her at a red line station, after I traveled for ovr a half hour, as she moaned wildly, the dates, phone calls, nicknames, letters, dances, etc. It all comes to me randomly and deppresses me. I would mstrbte to porn when she came up because that made me care less about her, but dirty flashbacks of us appear as I do that now and just deppresses me further. She was also the hottest girl I've seen and all my friends have seen (constantly reminded). I'm in for a busy honors/AP year, she's got new bf, and she pissed me off a sh!tload in our relationship, so I don't think I should chase after her. I'm significantly addicted to mstrbation now, deppressed, I'll get bursts of rage and may take it out on someone (not violently). We both take redline, so I will most likely see her this upcoming year and idk what to say if anything. I'm less of a wreck then I was way back, but still jacked up. Could anyone recommend to me safety/comfort/reach colleges?! I'll be a senior in high school this year, and Ive been freaking out about college for a while... So essentially, my g.p.a is low, at a 3.4, however my SAT I score is significantly better, at a 2310. My grades have a rising trend. To give a bit more background, I transferred schools after a rough freshman and sophomore year. I am actively involved and have been throughout hs in: Interact(a notable division), 2 varsity sports, several clubs in which I held leadership positions, and volunteer work at UCSF. By the time of admissions I will have been enrolled in 8 AP classes (counting senior year), and a particularly rigorous course load. I travel to Lithuania and its bordering areas each summer to work with impoverished children to help educate them by donating books, while simultaneously forming lasting bonds with the community. I've done a considerable amount of volunteering besides these.. but I'm having troubling remembering it all right now....Anyway, I live in California so any colleges in that area would be great, although I am open to any in the U.S.. I think the handbook should be limited to "how to handle people from a country, who actually win more than one medal." Therefore, worrying about pissing off people from the Middle East or India would not matter. Their combined medal total will be three, none gold. And why is it that Americans are rude? Why isn't, "that's the way we are." Americans have to be concerned with insulting natives of other countries. We are always being asked to change our ways, when visiting other countries. I can understand this, but why is not the reverse expected. People who visit the US should be expected to follow the following: shower often, wear deodorant, do not cut people off when driving or walking, and refrain from frequent flash photography. And from Mexico's point of view, it should not be illegal immigration, but "illegal emigration." They are leaving, not coming. Many countries bash the people of the US for being rude, but gladly accept our money, food, and support in times of need. Please I wish one foreign government to say refuse US support. My tax dollars would be better spent inside of US borders. Hello! I'm a soon-to- be high school Junior, and Cornell is definitely on my top 5 list. I'd love to get some input on what my chances might be. I go to an extremely competitve, upper-class school. I have a weighted gpa of 4.4 and an unweighted of 3.7. By the end of my high school career, I will have taken either 8 or 9 AP classes, 9 honors classes, and three accelerated (meaning a year ahead) classes. I havent't taken the Act or SAT yet; but at the beginning of Sophomore year, I scored a 200 on the PSAT so i'm aiming for over 2000 on the real thing. For the PLAN (practice ACT) I was in the 99th percentile nationally with either a 29 or 30, so I'm aiming for a 31-33 on the ACT. Obviously these are just predictions, but i've never scored under the 98th percentile on a standardized test, so hopefully I'll be able to continue that streak. I've been a competitive swimmer for 10 years, and I plan to swim all 4 years for my school team. I'm in the Model UN club, and last year I travelled to China for 3 weeks as a Student Ambassador. Next year I plan to join Interact club (service), possibly Student to Student ( students against drugs), and High Schools against cancer. I was selected to be a peer tutor my junior year. Once I turn 16, my goal is to get 100 or more service hours at a local hospital (my dream is to be a pediatric oncologist. I also plan on doing a Shadow-a-doctor program and a Habitat for Humanity next summer. Of course, I will also be in National Honor Society and Cum Laude Society. So, what do my chances look like at this point in my high school career? Be honest please, I can take it! Thanks so much! moreResolved Question: Do YOU think it's too much?
Okay. So. We are boarding this winter (In the summer we're at home) at a little place that's a GREAT deal- Indoor, heated arena, and $300/mo for a 12 x 10 stall. $180/mo for pasture board. I'm wondering if YOU think I could do all these things. 1. We are going to board my show horse there this winter, and I am going to ride him 6 days a week for about an hour- 1.5 hours per day. He's 20, and NEEDS to be kept in condition- If I loose the condition, it won't come back easily if at all. This is what I did last year, and it's going to happen. 2. I have school. It's my Senior year, but I'm not slacking off at all- I have CIS (College in Schools, basically a college course taught by HS teachers) Microeconomics, AP Physics, Companion Animal Science, AP Biology, CIS Animal Science, ECIS Writing, and then 2 PSEO courses (Also college courses). This is similar to the course load I had last year, but I'll be kept busy. 3. This is the question. I think I want to bring in one of our Greenies, to work with. I'd pasture board her, and I'd be paying for it- Not a problem. I wouldn't be riding her as much, maybe only 4 times a week or so, and it wouldn't be for as long- She's green. But I still would work her. 4. A job. I'm applying anyways, but this would be especially important if I want to board this green mare. My parents will foot the bill for my show horse, but not for her- Right now I have enough for about 2.5 months in my checking account, so I'll need to work for it. I would offer to work at this place, but they already have great help that's been there forever, so I don't think they'd be open to me working off board, although I might ask (If I did, It would probably be me feeding stabled horses before school, and working some weekends. My weekends are busy.) If I do get a "real" job, I would try to get shifts after school and on the occasional weekend. :/ I'd love to board this mare, but I'm just skeptical if it's realistic that I can do all of this without turning into a zombie. I would consider getting up early (4), going and working the mare, showering and getting dressed for school, go to school, come home and ride Lele, then work, but the barn doesn't allow riding before 9 AM or after 10 PM. :/ This is actually why I've put off getting a "real" job- My schedule is just so hectic, even without a second horse to ride! I'd probably be working as little as I could without making too little money or losing my job. I would also try to do this BEFORE we moved in to this barn. We'll probably go in in November if this warm weather keeps up, which means I'll have school in session for a couple months before I have to decide. Like I've said, I've submitted applications, and so hopefully I'll get a job before that as well. (I have previous working experience, and I was always on time and good with people, never fired/disciplined, ect. ) So I should be able to try this out beforehand to see if it's feasible- The travel time to this new barn is not an issue, as it's literally 5.5 miles away from our house. So. What do you guys think? Do you think you could do it?My "normal" winter schedule is School, Riding, and some sort of part-time job. It's usually stressful- Of course, I'm naturally kinda a high-stress person- and I usually get zits and gain at least 15 lbs during the school year, but I do it and I enjoy getting stuff done. I usually get about 5 hours of sleep per night during the school year, so getting up early wouldn't be a big leap. moreResolved Question: what are my chances at getting into UGA?

what book do you recommend I read as my summer assignment? I have to write a report on it and I have alot of summer asignments, so which book was interesting yet short and simple? Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austin A Tale of Two Cities - Charles DIckens Hard Times - Charles Dickins Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte Don Quixote - Miquel de Cervantes Germinal - Emile Zola Girl with the Pearl Earring - Tracy Chevalier The Wealth of Nations - Adam Smith The Scarlet Pimpernel - Baroness Emmuska Orczy Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevsky Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad Robinson Crusoe - Daniel Defoe thank you so much~by saying short and simple I didn't want to seem lazy. it's just that I'm reading to kill a mockingbird and black like me and I've got a ton of hw for ap biology and a ton of book work and a book and movie review for ap euro. I'm very swamped so I just want a book that I can easily write a review for. No need to sarcastically laugh at my wanting to actually enjoy my summer after taking a year's worth of chemistry in two months for the first time. moreResolved Question: Is this an interesting idea for a story or book?
Lovestruck, depressed teenager has finally caved into pressure from creative writing teacher, parents, friends and family to write a story. They just don't know what it's going to be about quite yet, and I'd prefer to keep it that way. Anyway, I'm not the kind of guy who writes for fun. I seemed to have done a good job on the essays I was assigned in AP English, and I got great marks on the short stories I wrote in high school. I've always meant to write something greater, but my problem has always been inspiration. I don't feel as if I can write without having a purpose, without having a clear reason as to *why* I should be writing. And then, as I was walking my dog today (well, tonight. It was about 11:30PM), I was struck by an idea. I'm a lovestruck, depressed teenager. I've made a lot of mistakes in my life. I've got a juvenile record. I used to rob houses, steal cars, and carry around an illegal Glock .40 in the inside pocket of my old leather coat. While the vast majority of the world doesn't consist of either teenagers or felons, I think I can safely say that, at one point or another, almost everybody has fallen for somebody who didn't fall for them. We've all made mistakes, we all regret things that we wish we had never done. So, I thought, why not write about that? Write about somebody who made mistakes all through their life, who was propelled and motivated by a lost cause. Somebody who reaches the end of their rope mid-way through life, who tries to walk away from the world and from their problems, only to find somewhat of a new beginning. The picture is hazy now, but needless to say, I have as long as I'd like to work out the details. I'm thinking about starting off with the introduction of the guy who will become the protagonist. Middle-aged and completely wasted, he's decided to put a bullet in his head. He hesitates at first, raising the gun up and down before finally pulling the trigger. At this point in time, the reader should be fairly intrigued, but not know exactly what's going on. I don't want all things to be clear in the beginning. I want the general problem (lovestruck loser) to be unveiled in the second chapter, which is going to take on a rather abstract tone. I'm thinking of making some kind of parallel between the immediate death of the protagonist and the falling of Icarus into the sun. Except in the case of the main character, he's not going to die. He's going to be resurrected. Don't get me wrong here. I'm not writing some kind of religious tragedy, nor am I going to have Depressed Donnie rise from the grave to eat the brains of his unrequited love. I want him to have a second shot at living life, but with a time-traveling twist. After things are explained a bit more fully in the second chapter and you begin to realize who the character really is and what he died for, his life is going to begin all over again. Literally. Well, almost. To sum things up, I'd like to throw the guy back in diapers. I want him to find himself a four or five-year old child again, completely confused but quickly becoming aware of his situation. By some miracle, he's been given a second chance, and he wants to make the best of it. At the end of the day, he wants to win over the object of his romantic fixation, and he does everything possible to achieve the maximum level of success possible. He graduates from high school at an extremely young age, gets his first college degree before he turns 18, and is going through the rigors of either medical school or residency when he seeks out and brings his little "problem" back into his life. Not sure what will happen after that. Hope that doesn't sound boring. I'm planning on adding a lot of stuff in between. I think I'd break things down on sort of a "landmark" basis at first - e.g., instead of writing year-by-year, I'll pick a few moments from each "era" (early graduation, college, etc) which are particularly important, and write about those. I'd have to imagine that, socially speaking, it'd be hard for an apparent 14-year old to be in college, even if he does have the mind and experiences of an adult. Not like anybody would know or believe that, right? So I'd talk a bit about the social issues, brief infatuations, and all the other problems that would come along with being a really friggin' smart young person. It'd fade away as he grew "older", but there'd be more transformational periods in between. Ugh. This is starting to sound like a bad idea. I don't know, I was thinking of having him run off across the country for a brief time. Have him confronted with some sticky situations concerning his former-life love - maybe they were friends before, and she told him of something really bad that happened to her, and he faces a moral dilemma in deciding whether or not to intervene. Like her boyfriend abuses her, beats her, or rapes her, and he has to deal with the inevitable dilemma of helping (or not helping) somebody he's technically not even supposed to know. Bleh. Tell me what you think. Obviously I didn't include all the details, mainly because I don't have everything thought out yet. I'd like to make it more action-packed, and I'd really like to have a psychologically complex character. I mean, I may as well give it a shot. At least this idea is fairly original (and hardly less realistic) when compared to Twilight, and look what happened to THAT franchise. That's all. Sorry if I rambled or wrote too much. Sorry if there's anything unclear. I wrote all of this without planning and without revision, so it may be a bit messy."depressed love struck teeneager has been done - almost to death - so make it interesting...." --- Not going to be about a depressed, lovestruck teenager. They'll have to relive those years over again, but that isn't the crux of the story. The "depressed, lovestruck" teenager part was more a reference to myself than anything. I'm a fairly normal guy, so there's no way in Hell that you're going to catch me writing some lame, sappy romance novel. moreResolved Question: Why are 100% of Barack Hussein Obama's family including his illegal alien aunt against spending time with him?

Hi. I am currently in Malaysia. I spent my freshman and sophomore year in America. During sophomore year, I took AP Bio and AP World History and I got A's in those classes in the final semester ( I don't know my AP Exam scores yet). So, then family issues arrived then I had to travel back to my mother's home country of Malaysia. I'm applying for an International School but it will be British Curriculum. So, I'm a little worried about college. I hope to the SAT and ACT and SAT subject tests here. How hard will it be for me to apply for American schools? Does this guy like me? Heres our story[both 15]. We met in marching band last year. [not a geek btw] When we met, something instantly clicked. During Comps, when it was cold, he picked me over his friends for years; to hold hands with because of how cold it would be. We'd go sit by ourselves and share hot coco and eat hot dogs. By time winter rolled around it was about 6 months in. We'd sit together on the band bus traveling, and we even went out to the movies together, he payed for dinner, and the moie. At the movie we kinda snuggled. Then about 2 weeks after that i finally got the nerve to ask him out. He said "With swimming, band and all of my a.p. classes and my mom being sick I can't handle a gf and I don't want you to feel not special enough" All this was true, he did have a sick mom, ap classes, band and swimming..now it's been a year later, and I still have feelings for him. Everyone always ask if we date...Apparently we're a match made in heaven...but should I tell him I still like him? or no? Should I ask him out again? [yes he has ap classes he really smart. hes head of the swim team- varsity and is in the drumline at band. es no geek.] moreTop Ap Travel Links
