Open Question: Can someone help me with this annoying question? Former AP Physics B question (little Calculus question too)?
I pulled this question out of an old AP Physics B exam The link is here if you want to check it: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/repository/ap08_physics_b_form_b_frq.pdf Now onto the question A 4700kg truck carrying a 900kg crate is travelling at 25m/s to the right along a straight, level highway, as shown above. The truck driver then applies the brakes, and as it slows down, the truck travels 55 m in the next 3.0s. The crate does not slide on the back of the truck. a) Calculate the magnitude of the acceleration of the truck, assuming it is constant. The answer key used d = v₀t + (1/2)(a)t² And it was 4.4m/s, which to me does not make sense at all why we even used this formula. The truck is traveling in the horizontal, it isn't going up or down, so why do we use (in language of Calculus) the "y(t)" equation? Now I tried using parametric to model this question and for my x(t), I got x(t) = 25t - 20, which I know, still does not answer the question in anyway (I tried adding back y(t) = (1/2)at², but couldn't figure out what a was) So my main question is, why do we use the uniform kinematic equations for this problem even though the truck is neither going up or down. moreResolved Question: Can you help me with my ap human geography homework?

I have some done already!?
I cannot do compare-contrast essays worth my life. I desperately need this, and I have some done. Could you help me finish it? Please? Here is the question. In each of the following poems, the speaker responds to the conditions of a particular place and time --- England in 1802 in the first poem, the United States about 100 years later in the second. Read each poem carefully. Then write an essay in which you compare and contrast the two poems and analyze the relationship between them. London, 1802 Milton! thou should'st be living at this hour: England hath need of thee: she is a fen Of stagnant waters: altar, sword and pen, Fireside, the heroic wealth of hall and bower, Have forfeited their ancient English dower Of inward happiness. We are selfish men; Oh! raise us up, return to us again; And give us manners, virtue, freedom, power. Thy soul was like a Star and dwelt apart: Thou hadst a voice whose sound was like the sea; Pure as the naked heavens, majestic, free, So didst thou travel on life's common way, In chearful godliness; and yet thy heart The lowliest duties on itself did lay. -William Wordsworth (1770-1850) *Milton refers to Paradise Lost Douglass Ah, Douglass, we have fall'n on evil days, Such days as thou, not even thou didst know, When thee, the eyes of that harsh long ago Saw, salient, at the cross of devious ways, And all the country heard thee with amaze. Not ended then, the passionate ebb and flow, The awful tide that battled to and fro; We ride amid a tempest of dispraise. Now, when the waves of swift dissension swarm, And Honour, the strong pilot, lieth stark, Oh, for thy voice high-sounding o'er the storm, For thy strong arm to guide the shivering bark, The blast-defying power of thy form, To give us comfort through the lonely dark. -Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906) *Frederick Douglass refers to an American writer, former slave, and leader in the abolitionist cause Here is what I have done: In the two poems by William Wordsworth and Paul Laurence Dunbar, the authors write to a figure of leadership. They each tell about misfortunes of their countries. Both poems were written about one hundred years apart, but carry a similar message. The poem written by William Wordsworth tells about a message to John Milton. It describes how the English have become selfish and have lost their heritage and freedom. Wordsworth depicts how if Milton would return, he would be able to lead England and restore their virtues, freedom, and power. In Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem, there is a similar message. This message was composed for Frederick Douglass. Dunbar requests Douglass’s assistance I know this is not much, but could you give me ideas on how to finish this? Thank you so much to whoever helps me! moreVoting Question: Pre-AP Geometry Help, Right Triangles?

I have around a 92-93 overall average and I have been increasing steadily since freshman year. I have been in 2 honors classes Sophomore year. 3 honors classes this year (junior year) and I am going to be in 2 honor classes and 2 AP classes senior year. And I got a 1200/1600 on my SAT's. I'm a junior in high school and I was wondering what I should do to be able to graduate on time. I make pretty awful grades and have about a 2.4 GPA, and I'm in tech prep. I took summer school last year because I failed Geometry and Spanish 2. This year is my 3rd time taking Spanish 2 because I'm just so god awful at it. But I'm also in 2 AP classes this year..some how manage to get in. XD I passed the first semester but now I'm failing both AP classes my math and chemistry. Please don't be mean to me, I'm lazy and stupid and I know. I''ve screwed things up for myself and now I guess I'm pretty much failing junior year. I'd really like to get into filming as a profession and I was wondering if tech prep colleges maybe had stuff for that if I transferred to easier tech prep classes and graduated in tech prep instead of college prep. I really think that I'd do much better in tech prep classes since they are significantly easier and require less work. I'm smart just lazy. Or should I drop out and get my GED and then go to college? Either way I had planned on just going to a community college and transferring to another later. I'm traveling outside of the country this summer and I'm not going to stick around for summer school again. I'm pretty sure I'm going to fail this year so I don't know what to do..So please give me any advice. Should I just continue with college prep, fail, and be a 5th year senior, move to tech prep and get better grades, or drop out and get my GED. If I dropped out too I would definitely work to get my GED because I am not going to settle for not going to college. Please do not tell me that I need to get rid of my laziness and how horrible of a person I am. I'm just a horrible under achiever and I know it's bad but I lack the ability to care yet I don't want to be a failure. So please don't lecture me and please just help me out on what you think I should do. Fast replies would be good. Thank you for any advice!!!Meant to say I was in college prep by the way. moreVoting Question: What should I do about the future? Read please!?

All my life i knew what kind of life i wanted to live. I would breeze through school with straight a's, take AP classes, graduate at the top of my class and go to the college of my dreams. Sadly, things are starting to get shaky. i have really good grades, i do take AP courses and i probably am at the top of my class but i'm terrified that that's not enough to get me into college. This whole college process is so confusing, it makes my head hurt soooo bad. i don't have a very good list of colleges i want to go to and i haven't done any community service work or scholarships yet. I'm a junior in high school and time is running out fast. Oh, and did i say i still can't drive? life is just stressing me out lately and i don't handle stress all to well. haha. also, i'm a volleyball player full time, i don't have time for anything!!! Alright, well first off i live in texas i am 15.5 and just got my permit. Apparently there is this new law that i must wait a year after getting my permit to apply for my license. I'm already the youngest person in my grade as i am a sophmore now and the year is almost over, i was wondering maybe if i might be up for a hardship.I honestly drive EVERY day for at least 45minuets to an hour. My dad travels alot as he is a traveling salesman and my mom is a school teacher. i have one brother and one sister also. I'm involved in plentiful #'s of after school activites, this year i participated in Football, basketball, tennis, and track sport wise.Academic wise i have a solid 3.7-3.8 gpa and am in all AP classes, i also participate in UIL events and have logged Community service hoursl. I usually wake up and head to school for pratice at 6 in the morning and typically get home at around 7 at night which leaves me just enough time to finish my homework. This is very stressful on my mom considering my dad isnt always at home, and my younger siblings (ages 13 and 12) are just as, if not busisier than i am. With all these factors my mom is very stressed out and once i get my 6 driving course completed and after the required 6 months filled i would like to apply for a hardship so i can take some stress off my mom. By the way dont under estimate how much my dad works, id say hes gone 4-5 days out of the week, and arrives and departs at odd hours so theres maybe a 12 hour window when i see him. And at least once a month he goes on a buissiness trip for maybe a week and half without returning then its back to 4-5 days. plus on days that hes back he tends to go to work which is 2 hours into town. Am i eligible for a hardship license?ya well if i did have my hardship license i would be able to run these errands....i would end up picking everyone up from their social and academic events and droping them places they needed to go and running errands.... moreResolved Question: What job would fit me? Hey (: I hope everyone's having a good week so far! Anyways, I was just thinking about colleges and I'm a freshman in high school. I'm pretty quiet, but I get along well with others and I work really hard, and I am a pretty good debater. I love helping others out. I absolutely love traveling and writing, so would journalist be a good job for me? I know it's kind of hard to tell without knowing me, but what are some other careers that seem to fit with my personality? What colleges would be good? I am 16 years old and I am a Sophomore in high school. I feel like a lot of my friends are living the life I want to live. I know as humans we all want what we cant have but I feel as though I have nothing going for me. I am not really good at anything. I am an A/B student, on student council, knowledge bowl (which I will be quitting next year because I suck at it) and I am on the track team. I dont know if I will be getting on student council next year and I am ranked 142 out of 350 in my class. I am not good at track and I just do it because its an easy sport and I need to be doing something for my college application. My school offers this thing called PSEO (post secondary enrolment). During your Junior and Senior year you go to local community colleges and take college courses instead of high school ones. A lot of people are doing this and I am not in the top third of my class so its not an option for me. I am mad at myself for not trying harder. I dont want to spend my whole life in college and I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I have some basic ideas and those change everyday. I usually am really happy about my life but the past few days ive been worrying so much! I am worried about getting a girlfriend, I am worried about college, I am worried about my social life and I have recently applied for a couple jobs also. I feel like ive got a lot of friends and im not one to usually want to "hang out" but lately I have been trying to get together with people and it doesnt seem to work out. I love my life but I just dont know what to do. I feel like the only thing that makes me stand out is that I have been to 7 different countries and I was accepted by a program by people to people and was able to travel around Europe over the summer. I know I shouldnt but I just feel so jealous of everyone around me! I want to be smart and I am not, I want to be the star athlete, I want to have a girlfriend, I want to be in shape, I want, I want, I want. Also, most of my friends are girls and I would consider myself "popular" and everyone says I am the funniest person ever. Im sorry for being cocky but seriously that is probably the only thing going for me. So I guess I was wondering if it would be hard for me to get into a good college considering I dont "stand out"? I do take ap classes and I get B's in them so it doesnt really boost my GPA. I am also wondering if there is a website or something that helps you get on the right track, plan goals, or at least help me with anything I was complaining about? Sorry for the long question, if its even a question. I am just so worried right now and I feel like I am just an average joe and I want to stick out! I am also kind of shy unless I know you. moreResolved Question: What to do with my last semester of college?
Here is my situation: I am currently a junior at a top 25 university. I am pursuing a bachelor's degree and economics, and looking to enroll in a graduate program in urban planning, preferably economic or international development. With AP credits however, I have senior standing and technically can apply for graduation right now but I need to meet my major/minor requirements, which I expect to have after fall semester at the end of this year, and I plan on graduating in december. However, my GPA is less than stellar for graduate school, fluctuating around 3.2-3.3. Initially, I had been planning apply for and, if accepted, to enroll in graduate school right after I graduate. Now, I am having doubts, because my friends have been telling me that by doing so, I'll be overwhelmed and feel "burned out." Also, I would have to take the GRE this summer, and I'm not sure I'll be ready at that point. The second option is to stay in school for an extra semester and try to take easy intro-level classes to raise my GPA for my grad school application. Unfortunately, that's not a good option either: 1. It'll feel like a waste of time because I'm not learning anything productive, since I'll be in classes just because it's easy, rather than because it's interesting or relevant to my goals. 2. It would be a waste of money because I'm not learning anything productive. 3. Grad schools may look at my transcript closer and wonder what was the point of my last semester in college. A final option, which is a bit more radical, is to spend my last semester studying abroad. I love traveling, particularly international experiences, and studying abroad appeals to me because it's fun, and I'm interested in studies of international scope. However, I doubt that I will learn anything productive because I feel that studying abroad is a waste of time if you are pursuing a degree in college, as it doesn't give you the same quality of education as in college, especially if it's a 4-month long vacation. I believe that it is a mistake to interrupt the most important studies of your life with such an experience while pursuing your degree. But with my degree requirements completed, it may be a choice I would consider, especially because I am certain that I will enjoy the experience, and the cost of one particular program at my school is actually cheaper than a semester's tuition. This may seem like the best choice, but I still have many concerns that I hope people can address. 1)Is it typical to go studying abroad on their last semester of college? Would such a decision hurt me in any way, especially if employers/grad schools look at my resume/transcript and scrutinize my decision in a negative way? How would they react to this? I know studying abroad is generally perceived as a good experience, but spending my last semester doing it, does it make me look lazy or unproductive in any way to potential employers or graduate programs? 2)What if I'm looking for a job or internship during this semester? They won't be able to interview me because I'm halfway around the world. 3)What are any other drawbacks or problems that I might face career-wise if I decide to study abroad this semester? So what should I do with my last semester of college? Enroll in Grad School? Take easy classes to raise my GPA? Or study abroad? I'm a gifted sophomore in a small high school. My school, though it does offer IB, AP, and dual enrollment classes, is not challenging, or even remotely interesting, for me. My school completely waters down all classes, except for a few of the dual enrollment classes only for seniors, to the point that what classes would be academic level are now called honors and IB and AP is barely above that. Very few of the classes actually interest and engage me since I was rejected from our local science and technology governor's school(I wasn't in a high enough level of math- which the PSs here messed up as well). I am very unhappy with school and have completely lost motivation- it's like 'senioritis' as a sophomore, not good I know. I have tried to get myself interested in classes by doing extra research and forcing myself to care about it. It's simply not working, I don't remember the last time I've studied or done any sort of homework. My grades are dropping and I know I should care but I'm completely unmotivated even when I think of college and my dream job as an aerospace engineer. I really think it would be beneficial for me to graduate a year from high school. Instead of moving on straight to college I would take a year off of school and... well, I'm a little fuzzy here. I would love to spend a year gathering experiences: travelling, doing apprenticeships and interning, working on a fishing boat in Alaska, helping refugees...! I don't know. What I do know is that I pushed myself too hard from elementary on and now I'm begininning to completely burn out- school is just depressing. I know quite a few people who pushed themselves too far, too young at burned out. They all dropped out of college and only one(out of four) is really happy. I don't want to take that chance. I know I have at least ten to twelve more years of school(two high school, four college, four- six grad school). I can't deal with this shit-hole of high school for much longer plus the fact that I won't be able to get into a good engineering school with my grades(As in my languages and math, Bs in history, and a C in Anatomy and Physiology). I don't care about prom or any of that, I've already gone and wasn't impressed. I already know what I need to do in order to do so. What do you think? Would it be beneficial for me to graduate a year early? If I do decide to graduate early, where can I find information on what to do between high school and college? moreVoting Question: HAVE SPACE SUIT-WILL TRAVEL BY ROBERT A . HEINLEIN!?

so I'm a high school junior but have enough credits to grad this year, so I'll be going to community college. I just turned 16 so I'm going to be a college student at 16. I was always planning on transferring to a UC, until I traveled to France on my own this winter. I realized that anything is possible and I might as well go to school over in Europe. But the thing is, I already have so many US college credits from AP tests. I'm fluent in Spanish and would love to go to U Barcelona, but their first language isn't even Spanish, and also I know so many people from all across France, but only speak a little (though I've never even taken a course in it). So I was wondering what should I do, because I'm pretty sure college credits from AP exams don't transfer over to schools in Europe, and since I'm going to comm college next yr anyways I'm going to be getting a lot more credit. I would think going to an exchange program from the US would be a waste of money htough, caus directly applying to school over there is a fraction of shcools over there...Or maybe going to a very not-so-prestigious school and then studying abroad would be the same financially...? I'm in love with the culture over there, I fit in much better in the sense of the way people socialize, but it's also a tiny bit harder since I don't speak the language BTW, in the US i'd be interested in majoring in Linguistics/Anthropology and then minoring in film/cinema or something math related moreResolved Question: Why University of Illinois (champaign Urbana)? Also, How personal is their admissions process?
Okay, so I am currently a junior in high school and I am researching universities and looking into the best schools, financially and by the quality of the education. I am originally from Illinois but I have been going to high school overseas in Milan, Italy since I was a freshman. It has been a great experience but I'm not quite sure if I will fit into the U of I community because of my diverse background and experiences. Although, I would love if it were possible. My mom recieved both her graduate and undergraduate degrees from U of I (champaign urbana) so she has been pushing me to apply there. Although she has told me once or twice that it is difficult to get in, and she's not sure I am able to. Honestly it was a bit of a blow to my ego but I would like to know what my chances are, and whether the admissions process will take into account the many extracurricular and other personal activities I have dedicated myself to. Below is a taste of my personal achievements during HS: I am currently taking the International Bacchleareaute (haha that is spelled wrong fyi) or the IB. This is like AP and is an accelerated program. I am taking HL math, HL English, and HL Chemistry although I do not plan to go into a Chemistry-related major. Since my freshman year, my semester grades have included all A+s and As except for this past semester I recieved 2 Bs. Our school does not include B+s or A-s because the IB does not grade this way. I received two Bs in Chemistry and Spanish. My courses include Economics, HL Math, Business Studies, HL English, HL Chemistry, Spanish and Italian. I am interested in entering the Business field or possibly communications although I have not quite decided. To continue this already pretty long description, I am in numerous extracurriculor activities and really dedicate myself to all. I have been in student government as Publicity official for my sophmore year and junior year, plus I am running for President this spring for my senior year. I am a member of NHS (national honors society) and have planned many charity events in conjunction. I am also treasurer of Prom Comitteee, and also do MANY sports. I was basketball captain my sophmore and junior year, and volleyball captain my junior year. I also play soccer. This takes alot of my time and I really enjoy particpating in everything. I won the most outstanding english award for 10th grade and most improved in physics last year as well. I am hoping to recieve both English and Economics this year and I am currently particpating in an international marketing competition with the well known company Media-Saturn. Overall, I just want to know if U of I will take into account many of these parts of my life that I have worked so hard to incorporate. I am almost positive I have left many things out as well. I do habitat for humanities and am going to travel to Romania in May as well as I have done a personal fundraiser for St. Judes. I know U of I has a great club diversity but I also just want the best school that will help me succeed. ~Thanks* Oh and I also do MUN (Model United Nations) and go to a conference in Dublin, Ireland everyyear...... moreResolved Question: Does it worry you that Census 2010 has already wasted millions?? Federal investigators caution the excessive charges could multiply once the $15 billion headcount begins in earnest next month unless the agency imposes tighter spending controls, according to excerpts of a forthcoming audit obtained by The Associated Press. On a positive note, investigators backed the Census Bureau's decision to spend $133 million on its advertising campaign, saying it was appropriate to boost public awareness. The spending included a $2.5 million Super Bowl spot that some Republicans had criticized as wasteful. The findings by Todd Zinser, the Commerce Department's inspector general, highlight the difficult balancing act for the Census Bureau as it takes on the Herculean task of manually counting the nation's 300 million residents amid a backdrop of record levels of government debt.neocons..............So I assume you supported Obama's push to put the Census under control of the White House instead of the commerce dept??? I am currently a Junior at a public high school. I get fairly good grades and enroll in multiple AP classes. A career that would allow me to travel would be nice. I absolutely detest big corporations and routine office work. My friends think that, with my opinions and personality, I should be an actor or writer. Actor? No, as I truly dislike talking in front of large groups. (Yes, I realize that I will have to get over this fear for college, but I certainly don't want to have a career based around that. Plus, I stink at acting.) Writer? Well, it does seem interesting, but I am horrid at writing novels, I don't want to report facts, and I don't think there are any careers in which you are paid to express your opinion. If there are, please tell me.) I'm searching for any career that has even the faintest sense of freedom, leeway, expression, or otherwise. (I know I'm being idealistic.) My family calls me very creative. My best subject is English. I am open-minded, and I try my best to be sociable. I dislike being a leader. (I'm more of the adviser type, you know?) I've taken numerous career tests online, and all say that I am a "creative and helpful individual" or some rubbish like that. If you know of any career that would be best for me, please reply! WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Doctors see hope for treatment with the end of a federal ban on immigrants who are HIV-positive By Jennifer Brown The Denver Post Posted: 01/31/2010 01:00:00 AM MST Colorado doctors who care for patients with the virus that causes AIDS hope a new federal law will help destigmatize the disease and push immigrants to seek treatment. Until this month, the United States banned people with HIV from traveling into the country. Testing positive for the virus also was grounds for denying a green card to live here permanently. Widespread fear of deportation among Colorado's immigrant community — mostly people from Mexico but also those from African countries — has kept immigrants from getting treatment and even getting tested for the virus, doctors said. "This will improve the outcomes for immigrants with HIV here," said Dr. Tom Campbell, head of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. "They're not going to be afraid to come in and get treated." Campbell cared for a young undocumented immigrant last summer who had never had treatment for HIV and was admitted to the hospital with AIDS-related pneumonia. "He was not surprised when we told him he had HIV," said Campbell, who suspects the man had known for a while. Avoiding detection Immigrants with HIV who would have remained healthy on drug treatment often avoid seeing a doctor and end up with AIDS — mainly because they don't want any record of having the virus, worrying it could affect their immigration status now or in the future. AIDS activists have argued for years that including HIV on the list of infectious diseases — among tuberculosis and syphilis — that can preclude entry into the country was illogical. Unlike tuberculosis, the only way to transmit HIV is through intimate contact. "There was no medical basis for having HIV on this list in the first place," Campbell said. "It was a political decision . . . based on irrational fear and stigma." International health officials have not held an AIDS conference in the United States in two decades, since a Dutch AIDS educator with HIV was held for several days trying to enter the United States. The last international AIDS conference held in this country was in San Francisco in 1990. The lifting of the HIV ban through a change in immigration law was pushed by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass, and signed into law by President Barack Obama last fall. It took effect this month. Clinic gathering clients About 10 percent of the 1,400 patients at the university's infectious diseases division and Colorado Center for AIDS Research are immigrants, and the university recently opened a new HIV clinic just for immigrants. It has 14 patients so far — two-thirds are from Mexico and came to the U.S. for work, while the rest are from Africa, said Dr. Jose Castillo, a university physician who runs the clinic. A 60-year-old woman from Ethiopia who believes she contracted the virus at a dental clinic back home is among Castillo's patients. Martha, who doesn't want her full name used because of the stigma associated with HIV, came to Denver in 2007 to help care for her grandchildren. She said she didn't know she was HIV positive when she filled out her visa paperwork to visit the U.S. After about four months in Colorado, Martha applied for a green card and had to take a blood test. When she found out she had HIV, she and her daughter feared immigration officials would ship the whole family back to Ethiopia. "I said, 'Oh, my God!' " recalled her daughter, Lydia, who also did not want her full name published. "Where were they going to send us? I was worried too much." After two years, including home visits by immigration officials, Martha was granted a waiver and received a green card despite her HIV status. She takes one pill each day and feels healthy, she said. Right now as a freshman in high school, they want us to begin to think about college. i have no idea though! I am taking: Algebra 2, Honors Physics, Honors English, AP Government, Chorus, and Spanish. I like to play sports such as soccer, lacrosse, and dance. I also like to play guitar, piano and sing. I like to read in my spare time (but definitely not for school!) My favorite classes are math, physics, and chorus. I know that later on, I want a job where I have a full day working schedule, where I have to travel and sometimes out of the country. I want to work with other people, and not alone. anything? htanks! moreResolved Question: Chances to get into MIT?
