Holiday Travel Questions asked

Open Question: Dating ? for you men only.?

Hi you men out there. I met a man online from Canada, I live in Michigan. Anyhow we met twice and 1st time had a wonderdul date filled with chemistry and fun. The second time we hung out for a few days and too had an excellent time. That was near Halloween. Once we both got home I a phone call from him thanking me for coming, saying he had a wonderful time, and looking forward to the next time. I didn't hear from his as often after that time together. We still talked online but no phone contact. After about a 1 1/2 wks of it I sent him an email stating he had lack of regard for me feelings and basically just forget it all. I was very hurt and didn't want it to be over. I im'd him same nite after his resonse to me saying wow ok. I apologized and he was acting ok about it and said he missed me, just has been slammed @ work. Well since then we've only emailed and he always says he misses me. I too miss him alot. I left him vm on on thanksgiving wishing him Happy Holidays and no call back, he travels alot for work and often to same city and hotel. I'm wondering should I call the hotel and try to reach him? I normally wouldn't consider it but feel the need to put in the extra effort since I had sent the email saying for get it. Both times we met in that city as we live 5 hours apart. Its about 1hr and 30 mins away from me. If he's there I'd like to see him if I can get ahold of him. I know he's the one for me.  more

Open Question: Is this a good way to start a story? ?

I'm writing a story, for no apparent reason, and I'm wondering if this is a good starting or not. Please let me know if it's to boring or to jumpy from area to area: Dramatic eyebrow twitch, second latte in the bag and a tendency towards horny thoughts; I justified that this was no reason in particular to panic. My hands had been gripping the steering wheel so hard for the past hour that they were turning white and beginning to clam up. Traffic during winter break was Horrible with a capital H. I don’t think I will ever fully get used to the horrific clamor that arose from a group of flustered adults on the highway. Had this really been my idea anyway? “Come home for the holidays sweetie. You can take that old beat up Chevy that you love so much.” Yes, that “old beat up Chevy that I love so much” was completely failing me. Why did my vehicle have to be such a gas hog? It’s ventilation system was broken and the stereo only brought in three channels. Thanks for caring Mom. My family was a whole bucket load of fun, all loving and caring-- just like the Adams family. And here was another Christmas devoted to them. I wasn’t too keen on the idea. I was already three hours off schedule. European history had gotten out late again because Professor Shit-brain refused to acknowledge the existence of a clock, Mathew had cornered me in the hall and practically forced himself on me (I disentangled myself and told him I was engaged. As if. He sure let go fast though.), and I had forgot to get a dog sitter for Toby. So now not only was my car a mess, Toby’s big fat rump was hair-itizing my entire back seat with his jet black fur. Why on earth did I have to get such a big dog? This was my third year of college, my third year of driving down the god awful streets of New York and the third time that I was going to regret bringing those caffeine pills my doctor talked so highly of. It was also my third year traveling as a single woman down the same stretch of highway in the same fucking car. Damn, can someone please bring me a soapbox, a tub of ice-cream and maybe a sexy picture of Neo to foam over and torment myself with? It would be such an improvement. My heinous thoughts towards my family and all that was demented was probably mostly, if not all of, the reason that I didn’t see the car in front of me braking wildly. So it was a complete surprise when the unearthly keening sound of tearing metal reached my ears and the large wump of my head into the steering wheel as Toby crashed into the back of my seat blinded my eyes. It was one of those “oh shit” moments where you feel completely detached from the world and everything spins in slow motion. The lights, the swollen color of maple leaves, start to blend together and the bar jarring crunch of things that should never be broken, shattering and smashing like candy in a child’s mouth, just becomes apparent. Obviously it's not finished. Thanks for reading that whole things if you did though....  more

Open Question: Traveling out of state for employer?

Can an employer send an employe by plane out of state to do a job and then tell that employee that if he wants to go home for the holiday it would be the employee's responsibility to pay for it. If so, what about telling the employee if they don't go home that they would have to pay for the hotel they are staying in (employer has been paying for it all this time) during the holidays. The employer knew when sending the employee out of state that the employee did not have any money for expenses.  more

Open Question: How to Politely Decline People Who Ask to Stay at Your House?

My husband's niece and her two small children will be traveling over the upcoming holidays. She is based on the East Coast and is making her way to the West Coast over a course of 2 weeks. I don't mind her staying for just one night before Xmas. This will give us a chance to celebrate the holiday with her and her kids. However, she has asked about staying again (for possibly more than just one night) on her return - probably around New Year's. Well, by then I'll have had a houseful of family over the holidays and we also have dinner plans with old friends for New Year's Eve. My problem is that I'm not a hotel....but when everyone comes into town - they stay with us. I don't mind, but it is a lot of upkeep that I don't think everyone realizes. Fresh sheets, washing towels, ensuring there is enough food in the house, cleaning, dishes, etc. {sigh} It's a lot of work having houseguests! I just want to relax on New Year's Day and watch football with my husband. We're past the little kid stage and it's just the two of us now. So, how do I politely let our niece know that it would just be too much to have her and her children stay with us again. Am I being a meanie? Wow, I appreciate everyone's quick replies! For those of you who think I'm being mean....I didn't say everything has to be perfect when guests stay with me...but I'm sure they'd like a bed with sheets on it & a fresh towel dry off after they shower. Do you imply that I don't bother with these details....hmm maybe one time of that discourage future visits! Thanks! :) Oh and I forgot to mention that I work a full time job. My work is somewhat demanding and I put in at least 50 hours a week. I do not have a housekeeper.  more

Open Question: Does anyone have any Delta Skymiles the can transfer me?

I am having trouble finding great deals even through priceline, orbitz, etc. I didn't realize that I was going to be taking this trip in time to plan properly, but now my friend is getting married and I need 3 tickets to a small town and I am not getting a break anywhere!! I searched for coupons through various internet sites, but none of them work for me. I did sign up for Delta Skymiles with one coupon that's supposed to give me a few miles, but I have to actually take a trip before I can take advantage of my skymiles. I need 3 tickets - actually from Austin, Texas (AUS) to Wausau, Wisconsin (CWA) roundtrip departing Dec. 26 and returning Dec. 31. I know, it's the holiday season! Uuugghh... however, I am not opposed to traveling off peak hours, coach, non-jet... we can even leave Christmas afternoon and return on the 1st. I just can't get a thing to fit my meager budget!! I believe that we can drive there on my budget, but with no extras for hotels in case of a snow in, emergencies, etc. my children are 1 and 3 and being from Texas, we have never seen 12 degree weather! So, with Delta... I need 67,000 miles to fly! If a few people have some miles they can pass on to me as a Christmas present, I'd greatly appreciate it. If there is someone out there who has some type of awesome special on another airline, I will make an account... Can anyone help me? Thank you, Yahoo Community! Merry Christmas!  more

Open Question: Sony Ericsson C905 or iphone?

Chaps I need your opinion: I love travelling and hence having a camera phone is handy for me as don't like carrying to much on me when on holidays - hence I think the C905 8.1 mega pixel camera phone would be great. However, I saw an add for the iphone and the features look amazing, I'm just worried about the size and if it will easily scratch. The price of the iphone will be almost double for what I will be paying for the C905. What are your experiences with the iphone is the hype true? or should I stick with the normal functions I'm accustom to?  more

Resolved Question: What an illogical dream?

Another dream for my yahoo answers dream journal. I dreamt of this sleeping late in the afternoon (working in the night shift). I somehow found it illogical. Please help make sense. _________________________________________________ I dreamt that I was running on the road trying to catch a bus to Goa (my holiday destination in the dream). I found a white bus parked by the side of the road with some crowd. I ran towards the same thinking I would miss my bus. I had 2 bags; one backpack and one briefcase type bag in the hand. I got into the bus and kept the briefcase type bag in the bus. The backpack was still with me. (Now, this might sound little crazy and illogical). Then I dreamt of another bus coming from behind (on the left side of my bus) and it moved right next to our bus. I don't know, I felt like a big cupboard sliding from the back of my bus towards the front along the speed of other bus (I clearly remember there were seats in the bus then how can a big cupboard slid?). I jumped on it and warned a person right ahead. He at the last moment jumped on the seat right at the front end of the bus and to saved and he thanked me. Well, my bus started, moved along the main road and took a turn. It had to take on more passengers so it stopped for a while. I got down with my backpack (leaving the suitcase in the bus) to take a stroll. I got a call on my cell from a girl who was strange to me. She said she was coming along too but can't find me where I was and mentioned she was on the same road though. I asked her what she was wearing, she told me pink shirt and a black pant with a carry bag. I thought I saw her (same description and speaking on her cell phone looking lost) and waved my hand and asked her to turn towards me on the phone (90 degrees to her left,, but instead, she went straight and disappeared in the empty street, the voice on the cell said that she still can't see me. Seems that though the description was same I was looking and speaking to 2 different girls. Well, alone, then, I moved back to where the bus was standing and found it gone. I had to act quick and choose one of the 2 options: a. The bus, before stopping was going to take a turn (I got down early for the break). So, I could check there to see if it had stopped) b. Since it was just about time, go to the main road parallel to the road mentioned in "a" because I might have just missed and would be able to catch the bus by following it in the cab. I took option b and ran to the main road. I did not remember the bus number but knew how it looked like (milky white bus with pink color towards the middle dividing the bus into fore and the aft part). I saw one such bus and ran towards it, but it turned out to be a small truck with similar appearance (too cute to be a truck). The driver looked out and he was a military man (much too fancy to be a military truck). I asked him for a lift down the road and he gave me a lift. I climbed at the back of the vehicle where there were 2-3 military soldiers standing in their camouflage uniform. One asked me what was the problem and I told him I missed the bus and had 1 bag in the bus. He heard the same and started laughing loudly telling the others, "hey look, he has lost his bag and doesn't know which bus he was traveling in." ____________________________________________________ Then, (not in my dream) my phone rang and I woke up, attended the phone call and slept back hoping to continue my dream, instead, I dreamt of something else..... I saw an old lady in white saree (or consider a own, whatever you understand), lying down (I could see her upper half only) and she was smiling at me. The smile appeared genuine and sincere. ____________________________________________________ Please analyze! I have begun the habit of remembering dreams and I really find them crazy unless your answers make some sense in this entire event.  more

Open Question: I wrote this poem but it doesn't have a title?

Open Question: I cut ties with my friend - So why do I feel angry that she's moved on so quickly?

I'm 17, and towards the end of High school...I became close friends with a girl. While she could be moody on occasion, I still enjoyed being her friend and was pretty devoted to her although she wasn't always like that in return. There were a few incidents where I noticed small selfish tendencies, but it wasn't until I invited her on a week long holiday to the coast with my other friends (Whom she'd never met before) that I noticed what she was really like. Everyone got along great at first, but that was until another friend of hers, staying 3 hours away, called her and she decided a better time was to be had with them. She left in a rude fashion (refusing to split the pre mentioned cost of a travel car she had traveled in). I was hurt, shocked, and embarrassed because I had told my friends how great she was and how close we were. I didn't hear from her throughout the week, and when I got home...I decided to call her. She was blatantly rude to me, but after a while, I decided to take her back. I don't know why. After hanging out with her again, and seeing the same complete disregard for me occur, I decided to cut ties with her. I haven't called her and she hasn't called me...but I've noticed she is moving on quite quickly with other friends. I ended the friendship, so why do I feel angry over it? I have more friends than she does, in my opinion, so why does it bother me so much that she's going out and doing things without me?  more

Open Question: Should I invite my in-laws to my graduation?

I'm graduating from college Saturday and I've only been married for about 5 months. I really don't get along with the in laws and my parents are traveling over 1000 miles to be here. I really just want to spend time with my family seeing as they're the ones that have supported me from the beginning in my college experience. We can't even have a decent holiday meal together with out my FIL being a jerk and I really can't even bring myself to spend time with them. They walked out of our wedding reception and left myself and my husband to clean up. And then never even congratulated us. Open Question: Gifts for my boyfriend's family for Christmas?

We're travelling out-of-state to visit with my boyfriend's family. I don't know them well at all, as they are Mexican and some family members, such as his mom, don't speak English very well. I want to get his parents a nice gift but I'm not too sure what I should get them. I don't have a lot of money but I do want to get something nice. I cannot come up with any good gift ideas. The only idea that seems like it is a good one is a figurine I found online that has to do with The Day of the Dead, which is a Mexican holiday. It's beautiful and my boyfriend was pretty pumped when I showed it to him. I haven't said anything to him about maybe buying it for them because I'm just not sure if this would be cheesy or not. Resolved Question: Do I need to obtain a schengen visa? ?

Open Question: How to stop mourning over a friendship?

I cut ties with a close friend a few weeks ago - and I can't seem to get her or what happened out of my system. Cut a long story short...I'm 17, and we became close friends during the last couple years of High school. Even though she could be moody occasionally, I still thought she was great and enjoyed being friends with her. I liked her so much, that I kept being friends with her after multiple situations where she would leave me feeling terrible, and even when I raised the issue with her, she would deny any responsibility - and always said - "You're needy", "I can't help the way you're feeling over it, only you can" - "Stop dwelling on it" She said all these things on one of the occasions that I felt used by her...I had invited her to a week long holiday at the Coast with a handful of my close friends (Whom she had never met before). I was confident everyone would get along, and they got along GREAT - Until she heard from another friend of hers, who was staying 3 hours away, and decided a better time was to be had with her. She left in a rude fashion (Refusing to pay for things my friends had prepaid on credit card for her - the travel vehicle in particular). I've cut ties with her now, but I don't know if I did the right thing. I was always a devoted friend, and she just didn't give me the same treatment in return. Was I expecting too much and how do I get this whole thing out of my system?  more

Resolved Question: Losing weight off thighs and butt?

I would like to lose weight off my thighs and butt but i'm having trouble finding the right exercise/activity to do to achieve this. I am a fit person so don't mind if you tell me to run or anything like that. I am on school holidays now as well which means my club sports are over so I am only relying on things to do around home but can travel to a pool or a local netball court, do you guys have any suggestions about what I can do? I don't want to go on a diet because they are only for a short time, I want something I can keep doing in the long run. I don't want to be muscly either just lean.  more

Resolved Question: Need some Gap year help?? ?

I am currently planning my gap year. I have found a really great full time, free volunteer project in this country that will house, feed me etc. But after that I would like to travel a little. Possibly in the USA, South america, or Africa. Probably only for a few weeks though. I would like sort of, planned adventure holidays, possibly camps or something to do with horses. Any ideas? As cheap as possible!  more

Resolved Question: Travelling around Europe/Eastern Europe?

Thinking of travelling for about a month in the summer through Europe inter-railing, will probably stick to the east as its cheap as hell! There's 4 of us in all (all around 20, students, Irish). Will be mostly a drinking holiday (with some sight seeing and some dancing bars(you know what I mean)). Where would be good places to visit that's cheap, thinking of going from Germany down eastern Europe and finish in perhaps Greece or Croatia? any tips/advice/suggesting? Am thanks but im not American, im irish, im talking euro's here, (i would be getting that that special ticket thing obviously, i know about that, im wondering about places and sites and hostels and things?)  more

Open Question: Travelling to Australia with a one way ticket?

Hi! I'm travelling to Australia in August with a holiday work visa. I only want to buy a one way ticket as I don't know when I'll want to come back (could be 3 months or might decide I like it so much I'll do the harvest and stay 2 years). Will they let me into the country with a one way ticket or will I have to have a two way ticket? Someone said if you prove you have the funds to buy a ticket, does that mean around £700 on top of the £2200 you're supposed to have? I have family members (great aunt, great uncle, and cousins of my mums) who I will be staying with for a while in Melbourne will that make a difference? Does anyone know a good website with what you need to know for a journey like this it's so confusing!  more

Open Question: my job stresses me out so much i just feel so let down?

i have been working in different restaurants since i was 18 at the moment i work so hard in a busy carvery restarant that usually does 600 - 800 meals a day. im on minimum wage and i dont always get my contracted hours. the hours i do get are affecting my social life (i cant go out at weekends with my friends) and love life (i live with my boyfriend but he does a 9-5 job and i dont finish til 10pm). and nearly all the money i earn goes on bills...i havent had my hair done for 6 months and i cant afford clothes the assistant manager really doesnt like me. he is the person who does the rota. he is nicer to the other staff who have been there the same amount of time. if i want a certain day off i have to book it as a holiday but other people just ask and they get it. he also knows i usually travel by bus to get there and back so he gives me shifts that end 15 minutes after the bus has gone and i have to wait round for 45 mins for the next one. i took this job coz i was promised more chances of promotion...a year later and i havent been promoted or anything. ive asked about it and they know im wanting to train up but they gave the promotions to other people instead. i keep getting let down by them...i even got 2nd job in a shop with the hope that i could give up the restaurant job but it didnt work out (the boss in the shop was a total bitch and spoke to me like i was a young child its kept happening and i had to quit). im getting so depressed now. i feel like i will always be in the same kinda work on minimum wage forever. i see everyone else i know getting promoted and moving on...even my fella is due for promotion. i just seem stuck. i try so hard but dont get noticed. i feel as tho when i have kids they wont be proud of me. they'll just say "oh mum just works as a waitress, but dad is a bank manager (thats what my boyfriend does)!" when they say what does your mum do... im getting so depressed i feel as i have no future just the same old... i cant afford to quit it. i try to be positive but its so hard coz the same shit keeps happening  more

Open Question: Cosmos Holidays & Monarch ~ Are they in financial trouble?

I booked a family holiday to Florida 6 months ago with Cosmos and Monarch. Last week they wrote to me changing my departure date by a week. I telephoned them to try to get the same dates but depart from a different airport. They want to charge me, approximately, an extra £700 for my workable option rather than their impractical one. Cosmos were inflexible, rude and unhelpful. I suspect that there may be another agenda at Cosmos. Any rumours out there whether these companies are safe to book a holiday with? Or should I cancel and book with a helpful travel company?  more

Open Question: Flying with 10 month old for the first time over christmas?

We are headed to MI from FL for the Christmas holiday. My little man hasn't traveled via plane before. We have an almost 3 hour plane ride. Any good travel toy ideas to bring to keep him entertained...other thougths or ideas? He's at the age where he want to MOVE..not sit still.  more

Open Question: Has anyone ever snuck their cat/small dog on a plane without paying the airline fees?

I've traveled numerous times on planes with my cat in an approved carrier in the cabin with me. He does well flying and I get to spend the holidays with him. Each time, I paid for a medical exam for him by my vet so that I'd have the medical certificate if they asked (they never did) and I paid the airline fees. Two years ago, the first time I flew, it cost $50 each way for his "reservation" and $30 for the exam, for a total of $130. The next time, it cost $75 each way and $30 for the exam, for a total of $180. Since I wanted to take him home for Christmas this year, I checked the airline pet fees and nearly fell out of my chair! Delta/NWA is now charging $150 each way for a pet and United is charging $175. The cheapest, USAir, is still charging $100 each way, but I don't fly them because they're almost never the cheapest airline for me. I recently bought a ticket on Delta for my flight home for Christmas and payed $250 for a roundtrip, but my cat's "reservation" would cost $300, more than my ticket! If I was flying United, it would cost $350! Now, I'm all for playing the rules, but this is crazy. And what's even more insulting, I pay all that money and my cat still counts as one of my pieces of carryon luggage! $300 and I don't even get to bring an extra bag! So I'm either going to board him (which now costs less than flying him even for a two- or three-week trip) or sneak him on the plane, but has anyone ever done that successfully? I wouldn't have to sneak him through security because the TSA people don't know and don't care what flight I'm on. How would they know if I have a reservation for him? And if I have a friend waiting to take him to a kennel in case my plan fails, what's the harm in trying? Has anyone out there ever done this? Ok, seriously, read the question. Don't send a stupid, knee-jerk reaction answer. If you don't own a pet and have never taken one on a plane, don't answer this question. I don't plan to send my cat through the x-ray machine! I'd walk through with him like I always do. My "guess" is that the only people who know if your cat is booked on a flight is the airline on which you're flying. Do the TSA guys know whether you've made a reservation for your cat? If not, why would they care if I have a cat with me or not?  more
