Open Question: I'm 14 and wondering about careers..?
Hi, I'm 14 years old, and I'm not too sure what I want ot be when I grow up. When I was a lot younger, I always wanted to be a veterinarian. A few years later, I decided I wanted to be a vet in a zoo. I'd love to help animals, but I tried to watch the vet operating shows on animal planet and it was pretty hard. The bloody stuff just isn't really my thing. I started thinking about a year or two ago that I wanted a job that paid good money, but I also enjoyed. I thought that a psychiatrist or a pharmacist would be a good job, but I don't really think that's quite for me. So, I thought an anesthesiologist would be a cool job. But now I don't think I want a job in the medical world. Plus, I hate science.. I have been so confused about this. I'm in all advanced classes in school, and I get straight A's. I'm a smart kid, and my parents are sending me to college. I know I still have quite a bit of time to figure it out, and I'm sure I will, but I thought of a new career recently that I might really enjoy. Actually, it's two careers, but I was wondering if I could combine them. They are a writer and a photographer. I love to write, and I can write well. My teachers always tell me my writing is fantastic, and it's something I enjoy. English has always been my favorite class, and I think I do best at it; mainly the story writing. I have always been an amazing drawer. My mom, my teachers, my friends, all tell me it's unbelievably good. In my class, my pictures would always get second looks, and impressed people. I've also been told many many times I should become an artist. I'm not saying that to brag, but it was a nice feeling. Pictures and photography are kind of something I can relate to. I could lean either way though with drawing or being an artist and being a photographer. My main questions here are, can I be a writer and photographer/artist at the same time? Would I go to college for both? How much do both pay? What kind of classes do you take? Would traveling be an option? Any helpful information is much appriciated. And any sites that would help me out would also be great. Thank you in advance. :) moreOpen Question: Tell me what you think of my Story? ~long~?
Sorry everyone I know this is long, but this is only a small part of it. But anyways, even though I am a beginner at writing, please be honest and tell me what you think. By the way, no copywriting cuz this is copyrighted. Thanks!!! Every Thief for Themselves By: Ashley B. A small dirty boy walked quietly up to a bread stand. “May I have some bread, please?” he asked. The bearded man with a bird on his shoulder looked at him. “You got money?” The boy frowned, when he checked his pockets to find nothing there. The bearded man grunted then laughed, “Didn’t think so.” The small brown haired boy looked up at him, then grabbed a piece of bread and into a darted away before people could tell he stole something. The man whispered something to the bird and the bird flew off after him. The boy ran as fast as he could, but the bird was catching up. Suddenly he was running past a alley and a hand reached out and grabbed him, pulling him into the dark alley. A red haired kid who looked about 14 put a hand over the struggling boy’s mouth. “You’re your mouth before you get us both caught.” Once the coast was clear the red haired kid turned to the small boy, “What’s your name, kid?” The boy frowned again, “I don’t know.” Red hair laughed, “I’m Mercutio.” The brown boy looked at him. “Mercuta what?” Mercutio laughed again, his red hair shined even in the dark ally. “Mercy for short.” He said. The little boy nodded, “Kay’.” He bent down and picked up the loaf of bread. “Want some?” he asked Mercutio. Mercy shook his head. “Follow me. You seem lost.” He said, looking around the corner. Then, he walked out onto the sidewalk, with the boy right behind him. “Where are we going.” “Somewhere.” “Where somewhere?” Mercy glared at him, “You ask a lot of questions.” He growled, staring straight ahead now. The boy looked at the ground, still eating his bread. He was following Mercy by watching his feet, and finally they arrived at an abandoned orphanage. They walked in silently. Then, there were a few other boys surrounding them. Mercutio nodded his head to them. “This is…well, he doesn’t have a name.” The boys laughed. The little brown haired boy looked at the ground. Another 14 year-old kid walked up to him, looking him all over. “So you don’t know your own name?” he asked. The boy shook his head. The boy kept staring. “Maybe we should name the runt.” He muttered to another boy. “How about: Stupid?” One boy yelled. The boys howled with laughter now, except for Mercutio. “Let him be.” He said. The boys shut up. Now a small boy, but not as small as brown boy stepped forward. “Any ideas for a name?” he pressed. Mercy turned to brown boy. “You must remember your name, right? Any memories at all?” The little boy looked up at him, “No. I don’t remember.” Mercy sighed. “Pick your name then.” “Okay…Bread.” The boys laughed like crazy again, “What a stupid name.” The all snickered at him. Mercy sighed, “No, a real name.” he growled. Brown boy looked at his feet. “I don’t know.” He said again. Some other kid by the name of Orek stepped forward. “What’s that on his neck?” he asked, pointing to a stone wrapped around a piece of string on his neck. “He must be a Gypsy!” He cried out. Mercutio glared at him. “Does it matter? I said leave the kid be.” He stepped closer to Orek, pulling his arm back ready to punch him. Orek backed away into the small crowd of boys. Mercy glared at them all now. “The kid is only like 8 or something.” He growled. “So, leave him alone.” The boy looked at the ground, wondering what a Gypsy was. The crowd talked among themselves as they sat down and munched on some stolen candy. “The kid sure doesn’t talk much.” Muttered one, another whispered back, “Must be stupid.” He laughed. Mercutio ignored them. But the little boy listened, eating the remainder of the crumbs from his stolen loaf. “Mercy?” he asked tentively. Mercy didn’t look at him. “What?” “What’s a Gypsy?” “Some weird mystic person, or whatever.” “Oh. What’s my name?” Mercutio glared at him now. “How should I know?” brown boy looked at the ground. Mercy sighed guiltily. “Fine, I’ll give you a name.” he sighed. Brown boy stared at him happily. “What? What?” he practically yelled out loud. Mercutio smacked him lightly. “Shh!” he growled. “Okay, here is your story. This way you have some ‘memory’ of your life. Even if it is fake.” he told Brown boy. “Alright, your name is Benavolio. You used to live with your parents and your favorite pets, Vayn an albino ferret, and Dawn: a black, white, and brown speckled mare. Dawn technically wasn’t yours, but you found her and traded her from another Gypsy for a cow. You also lived in a wagon, which Dawn pulled, but one day you fell out on a bumpy road with Vayn in your rucksack. And so you tried to run to catch up with them, but since you were so small, you couldn’t keep up.” Mercy paused to take a breath. “Finally when they were out of site, you traveled for miles on foot, looking for a small v yeah i posted it the other day on my other name and on this one too lol aw crud it cutt it off. moreOpen Question: How long is it going to take to receive the second extension for unemployment in Florida?
I have been filling out applications, sending resumes and gone to job fairs and found that so many people are now unemployed in the Tampa area, and with the hollidays coming , companies are waiting to see what the new administration is going to do before they hire. Maybe someone spoke too soon. I did not get the full 13 weeks extension. I received 9 weeks. So, do I understand now they think 7 weeks will get us thru? The Florida unemployment site doesnt have any information yet. What are other unemployed Floridians doing when it comes to feeding your families, and paying your living expenses? I even tried day labor and they have no work for a woman, or you need to travel to find work, and that means your car better be in great shape. My car is 9 years old, and I live in a rural area, so we have no public transportation. Is it just Florida that has these obsticals and cut backs that seem to hurt the ones that would take any job to stop this chaos. moreOpen Question: Have you ever gotten a traffic ticket for this?
I am driving down the interstate and a state trooper follows me for about half a mile and then pulls me over. He is a young one who looks like a rookie. He gets my license and leaves. He comes back and I ask what have I done? He says that I was traveling on the wrong side of the interstate (2 lane east and 2 lane west). He said the left side was used only for emergency vehicles and passing of a vehicle. He said you could only use the left lane for 200 yards of travel. He said the same law applies in my state of AL as well. I am thinking what the hell are you talking about?!?! In my 11 years of driving I have never heard of this and always travel whichever lane is more convenient. I am thinking also what kind of backwoods dumbazz state is this? You have a 1 lane interstate?!?! While he is writing the ticket there is a lot of holiday traffic traveling equally on both sides. He pulls off and follows behind them for at least a mile before getting out of site and doesnt do a thing to them. I believe this to be one of those frivolous laws on the book like jwalking. It is there but not enforced. The ticket does not state the fine. Have you ever received a ticket for this? Also do you think I should just show up in court and maybe the judge will dismiss it? moreOpen Question: I Want a Traveling Job?
Okay I want to travel. I'm 21 and tired of maryland because it kind of sucks. So i want a job that involves traveling. Now I don't want to be a flight attendant because it's traditionally for women, and plus i'd rather be served not serve others. So i was thinking about working with bands who go on tour. Like a road manager or something. Anyone know where I can go to search jobs like that? I can't find any good sites that post jobs in that field. moreResolved Question: How does the density of a medium affect the wave speed of a wave?
I'm super confused. Is it true that the more dense the medium, the faster the wave speed? I got this from a site: "Since sound is more easily transmitted between close molecules, it travels faster in the denser substance. Sound moves faster through denser air because the molecules are closer together in dense air and sound can be more easily passed on." moreOpen Question: Animated "starfield" GIF?
Can anyone please tell me where I can find an animated "starfield" GIF image similar to the animated images you see on some PC screensavers? (It looks like the stars are moving towards the screen as if you are travelling through space.) I have found a few sites that offer starfield screensavers for downloads but, I need to be able to save the animated image in my picture files for a project I am working on so, I need something exactly like this in an animated GIF image. (It also needs to be bigger than the usual thumbnail-sized GIF's you find in searches too...I don't need a huge GIF but, something big enough for me to clearly see the stars moving.) Any links to a site where I can find one of these that I can simply right-click to save to my picture file would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! moreOpen Question: Frustrated with air travel web sites. How & Where?

I'm planning a trip to NYC soon (Jan 29.) I've never been before so I have a few questions.. How many days is the minimum in which I could see all the main sites? I mostly wanna see the empire state building, ground zero, central park, and times square.I could save myself $100 if I knocked a day of the trip, but I'm scared I'll leave myself with too little time and not get to see everything! Could I squeese it all into 4 days? My second question is how much money you think I should bring. Apart from my flight and accommodation, what do you advise on a budget for seeing all these places, travel expenses, eating out etc? We're on a tight budget so don't plan to eat in fancy restaurants, just grab something quick from a food stall somewhere. Would $400-500 be enough for 2 people? Thanks for your time. If you have any other tips/advise I'd be happy to hear it! =] moreOpen Question: Anybody here will travel to South Korea? ?

Hi, Can someone tell me whether we can use Navigon 5100 without the memory chip? In a video review (animated) in amazon site for this GPS I found that they are placing a chip in the GPS. Does that mean if we lose the chip during travelling ... it's no good GPS? I've tried many sites for reviews but didn't find anyone mentioning it. Currently this GPS is available for $130.00 in sale. If anyone feels that we can get a better GPS than this please post the link along with your answer. Thanks, IH moreResolved Question: "per diem" reported on 1099 Misc?
We have some contractors who are requesting to be paid a "per diem" instead of a fee. This is for local work, no travel, and the workers are given meals at the job site. The contractors seem to think that we would not need to report the per diem on the 1099 Misc. I beg to differ as I expect we do need to report any payment (regardless of whether it's called a per diem) in Box 7 of the Form 1099 Misc. Then it is up to the contractor to report properly what's taxable and what's not, and document his expenses properly, to the IRS. Do I understand this correctly? Here's where I reached this conclusion and I don't understand IRS jargon all that well: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099msc.pdf page 5 box 7 " •A fee paid to a nonemployee, including an independent contractor, or travel reimbursement for which the nonemployee did not account to the payer, if the fee and reimbursement total at least $600" Thank you! moreResolved Question: Did I make a big mistake?
I started a new job in July - a really good one, with a good company, and little chance of there being problems with redundancies in the current credit crisis. At the interview, they asked me whether I would consider working from any of their other offices, and I said "No" as the one I was applying to was the most convenient. They took me on, but then after 1 week off at the end of September, I came back to find out that they had decided to move my team to another site. This meant me travelling for 3 hours per day (Instead of 1) for NO extra pay. Leaving the house at 6:45am, and getting home after 8pm! I told them there was no way I could do that (After the 24 hours they gave me to think about it!) and now I am working in a temp job. I have a mortgage and bills to pay - thought they always do get paid - I don't get any benefits - and don't expect any! I am going to be here until at least Christmas, and there is a possibility of be being taken on permanently. But I cannot help wondering whether I made a big mistake leaving a secure job. I usually think of myself to be quite sensible. I have worked since I was 14, and have NEVER been unemployed. What do you think, and what would you have done in my situation? Geoff - I am not married, but do live with my partner, he works too, but doesn't earn much. Moving was not an option, as selling houses doesn't really work at the moment! moreOpen Question: will my online classes be rated the same as on site classes when i start looking for jobs?

We want to spend two or three days in Athens and two or three on Santorini. That leave us another 4-6 days. If you know Greece, what would you recommend? Mark Hoppus wrote this on his blog on Nov 18 2008 www.himynameismark.com hello to you. it’s been a long time since i’ve posted anything here on the himynameismark site. i haven’t had it in me. these past two months have been the hardest times that i can remember, and i hope that we never see anything like this ever again. first losing our dear friend and longtime producer jerry finn, and then the plane crash that happened in september, taking our friends chris and che. even two months later, i still can’t believe what happened, and it’s too much to talk about. but let me say that i think about little chris every single day, and the world is not the same without him. he is one of the best people i’ve ever known. we travelled the world together, spending countless hours on busses and planes, in hotel lobbies and dressing rooms. we worked together, laughed, and played jokes on people. when i saw him in the studio, no matter if it were with blink-182, +44, or an unknown band i was producing, chris would walk right in, introduce himself, make some jokes, and make sure everyone was taken care of. he made everyone feel at home. like they were family. every person he met was a friend for life, and he could talk to anyone. it didn’t matter if it was the biggest star in the world or someone waiting to get into a show, little chris treated everyone as a friend. he was a dear friend to me. i’m so sad that he is not here right now. there are just no words. i’m also so thankful that travis and DJ AM made it out of the plane that horrible night. travis is a brother to me, and since the crash he has gone through more than i can even imagine. from the day after the plane went down, when i saw him in the burn unit out in georgia, to the hospital here in LA, to seeing him at home, his recovery is nothing short of amazing. every day gets a little better. and not only is he my brother, but also the best drummer and musician i’ve ever seen. the man was born to play drums, and it is great to see him starting to get back into the studio and behind his kit. as for me, i have been getting back to work as well. a couple of weeks ago i went into the studio with our lunar activities, to finish up their record. chris holmes and i recorded three more of their songs, and they are in the final mixing stage right now. then last week i went out to new york city to introduce all time low at the 2008 woodie awards for mtvu. the day i got back into town i went right into the studio with my friend richard gibbs, who scores films. he had a rough idea of a song for the movie he is currently working on, and he wanted me to come in and collaborate with him on it. we spent five straight days in the studio and came up with a really fun track for a movie called “fired up,” that comes out next year. it’s good to be singing again, and getting back into it. now this week chris holmes and i are working on a theme song for a tv show. today it passed the first round of approvals, and now it goes up to the big time producer people for their thoughts. hopefully it’ll be seen on a television near you very soon. check local listings. in the midst of everything else that has happened lately, tom, travis, and i have all spoken together. first through a number of phone calls, and then a couple of weeks ago we all hung out for a few hours. they’ve all been great, very positive conversations. we’re just reconnecting as friends after four years of not talking. it’s a good thing. obviously the first question for a lot of people will be “does this mean a blink-182 reunion?” the answer is none of us know. we haven’t talked about it at all. right now it’s just good for the three of us to see one another, reconnect, and let the past be the past. the events of the past two months supersede everything that happened before. life is too short. does this mean a blink-182 reunion? moreVoting Question: How long is the trip around south america and the panama canal?

Anonymous (used as a mass noun) is a label and Internet meme adopted within Internet culture to represent the actions of many online community users acting anonymously usually toward a loosely agreed-upon goal. It is generally considered as a blanket term—not tied to any monolithic group—for the vox populi or members of the Internet culture.[1] Actions attributed to Anonymous are undertaken by unidentified individuals who apply the Anonymous label to themselves. Incidents which are said to be associated with Anonymous are rarely connected to an organized group.[2] The phenomenon has received much of its publicity through Project Chanology and its protests against the Church of Scientology. Origins as a concept and meme The name Anonymous itself is inspired by the perceived anonymity under which users post images and comments on the Internet. Usage of the term Anonymous in the sense of a shared identity began on imageboards. A tag of Anonymous is assigned to visitors who leave comments without identifying the originator of the posted content. Users of imageboards sometimes jokingly acted as if Anonymous were a real person. As the popularity of imageboards increased, the idea of Anonymous as a collective of unnamed individuals became an internet meme. [3] Anonymous broadly represents the concept of any and all people as an unnamed collective. Definitions tend to emphasize the fact that the term cannot be readily encompassed by a simple definition, and instead it is often defined by aphorisms describing perceived qualities. [Anonymous is] the first internet-based superconsciousness. Anonymous is a group, in the sense that a flock of birds is a group. How do you know they're a group? Because they're travelling in the same direction. At any given moment, more birds could join, leave, peel off in another direction entirely. —Landers, Chris, Baltimore City Paper, April 2, 2008.[4] Composition Anonymous consists largely of users from multiple imageboards and internet forums. In addition, several wikis and Internet Relay Chat networks are maintained to overcome the limitations of traditional imageboards. These modes of communication are the means by which Anonymous protesters participating in Project Chanology communicate and organize upcoming protests. [5][6] A "loose coalition of Internet denizens",[7] the group is banded together by the internet, through sites such as 4chan, Something Awful, Encyclopedia Dramatica,[8] Slashdot, Wikipedia, and YouTube.[1] Social networking services, such as Facebook, are used for the creation of groups which reach out to people to mobilize in real-world protests.[9] Anonymous has no leader or controlling party, and relies on the collective power of its individual participants acting in such a way that the net effect benefits the group.[7] Anyone who wants to can be Anonymous and work toward a set of goals…We have this agenda that we all agree on and we all coordinate and act, but all act independently toward it, without any want for recognition. We just want to get something that we feel is important done… —Anonymous, as quoted by Chris Landers in the Baltimore City Paper, April 2, 2008.[4] Media-reported incidents The activities in this section were attributed to Anonymous either by their perpetrators or in the media. The actions taken by Anonymous do not seem to follow any single shared agenda. Those identifying with the term often take action simply for amusement. This is known within sites affiliated with Anonymous as "doing it for the lulz". Habbo raids A popular target for organized raids by Anonymous is Habbo, a popular social networking site designed as a virtual hotel. The first major raid, known as the "Great Habbo Raid of '06", occurred during 2006. In the raid (and most others that occur), users signed up to the Habbo site dressed in avatars of a black man wearing a grey suit and an Afro hairstyle (in style of Samuel L. Jackson in the movie Pulp Fiction)[10] and blocked entry to the pool, declaring that it was "closed due to AIDS",[11][12], flooding the site with internet sayings,[12] and forming swastika-like formations.[12] When the raiders were banned, they complained of racism.[12] In response, the Habbo admins often ban users with avatars matching the profile of the raiders even months after the latest raid. KTTV Fox 11 news report KTTV Fox 11 investigative report on Anonymous. On July 26, 2007, KTTV Fox 11 News based in Los Angeles, California aired a report on Anonymous, calling them a group of "hackers on steroids", "domestic terrorists", and collectively an "Internet hate machine". The report covered an attack on a MySpace user, who claimed to have had his MySpace account "hacked" into seven times by Anonymous, and plastered with images of gay pornography. The MySpace user also claimed a virus written by Anonymous hackers was sent to him and to ninety friends on his MySpace contact list, crashing moreVoting Question: I have got my US F1 visa. ?

Hey all, I'd like to find on a web a tool or a site with an option to "draw" a travel route, perhaps if it's possible with possible calculations of the distance. The thing is that I'm going to travel in Mexico for about a month but I have only approximate idea what can be reachable within the time we will have and where should I look for a place to stay for night. The destinations will be quite a lot, so google maps help only for calculating the distance between 2 places, right? Is there on web a map where u can freely mark ur desired cities and then have a drawn route which to follow? I have been offered a fantastic (too good to miss) price for five days at the Hilton Millenium Hotel in New York. I have never been to New York and am desperate to go. As a complete novice to New York (and America) I want advice on accepting this location wise. Is it a good location for sight seeing? Im aware its next to Ground Zero and aware this puts me in the Financial District which is fine by me, I will be so happy to be there I wont care, but the person I would be traveling with is more concerned with the tourist sites. Would we be far from the recognized tourist sites by staying there?? Can Central Park/ Times Square etc be walked to from here? If not, are transport connections easy to use for the inexperienced to New York? I would love advice on this if anyone has the time, also would love to hear from anyone who has stayed there. It looks lice a really nice hotel but is this the case?! The views from it look fabulous to me but would anybody recommend an alternative hotel in a more "touristy" hotel with fantastic views? Thank You. moreTop Site Travel Links
