I want to play pro. I play travel and High school. I live in Florida, Brazilian, 18 years old and I'm about to graduate high school. My father lives in Rio De Janiero, Brazil and I go there about twice a year to visit. Next time I go will probably be May of 2009. Resolved Question: Do we tell his ex that we are taking their child to Disney?

My fiancee and I have been together for three years and marrying next year. He has a child from his previous relationship that the mother has never been able to accept me or allow thier child to be around me. There is nothing harmful about me to the child, no drugs or bad habits. The only reason that she keeps the child away is because she thinks their son will like being with us more than her (due to the fact that I have a child the same age), other than the fact that she is extremely jealous of me and our relationship. To get to the point....they have never been to court over the child, were never married, she lives in another state, no court orders have ever been made, child support is paid voluntarily on time every month. In our three years together he has managed to see his son by traveling to his family members homes to see him and she actually allowed him to visit for one week during the summer over a year ago. After her son came home and told her what a wonderful time he had at our house she then said that he will never come see us again. Now that she has moved several states away it has been over a year since he has been able to see his son and she has finally agreed to allow him to come stay with us the week after Christmas this year. Their son will be at my fiancee's grandparents house on a certain day for us to be able to pick him up for one week. We have planned a trip to Disney in Florida that she knows nothing about. I feel bad about him not telling her because I have a child and I know how much it would bother me if her father didn't let me know his plans. He says that if she knows then she will not allow his son to come stay with us out of pure jealousy and spitefulness. Is there a better way to go about this? Will she ever be able to accept me and our relationship? How long can this go on? We will be in the same state the child lives in, Florida, so technically we will be in his home state, only three hours from his house actually. We live in NC. We know the child will tell her afterwards but there is nothing she can do about it then other than get over it.  more

Open Question: NY to FL Travel worries?

I live up in Northern NY, and I'd like to visit my brother, down in Florida. I've looked up air, bus, and train costs. I can well afford all three. I've never traveled by bus nor train. I've only traveled by plane twice, Down to Miami and back for a Senior Trip. Then, I went with a group of 15 people. This time, I'd travel by myself. I'm not worried about the plane crashing, I'm fine with the ride. I'm scared that I'd get lost or I'll miss my plane or something like that. Does anyone have any advise about how I should travel or get over my fear of failure?  more

Open Question: Could traveling from Florida to Wisconsin and visiting for 10 days, cause asthma?

I did or may still have the cold that I acquired up there, I'm wondering if I could have asthma, as during the day my cough is fine, I don't cough very much, but then once night hits, I have a constant cough, and it feels like I always have cold air going down my throat even when breathing though my nose, and when i breath the cold air, I get the urge to cough, I'm wondering if I'm still sick or if it could be turning into asthma, as my nose is no longer runny or stuffy, and its just this cough. I'm on a prescription cold meds, thats Robitussin with codeine in it, which does help calm the cough for like maybe 3 hrs, but then it returns with a vengeance in the middle of the night. Could the cold dry air that I was exposed to for those 10 days, trigger an unknown asthma in me? Could it have been a shock to my lungs?  more

Open Question: Marlins fans: What do you think about your teams' interleague schedule?

Excluding the Florida Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays games, what do you Marlins fans think about the interleague schedule for 2009? June 12-14th, the Florida Marlins will travel to Canada to play the Toronto Blue Jays, and then the 16-18th, they go Boston, to play the Boston Red Sox, and June 19-21st, they will be at home to play the New York Yankees, and then the 23-25th, they will play the Batlimore Orioles. Then the other 2 interleague series, like what they do with the Chicago and New York National and American League teams, they have them playing against each other, and since they do that every year, I excluded these 2 series.  more

Resolved Question: What do you think it could be, a bug, a mouse, or WHAT?

o.k guys check this out! The other day I made bacon, like 5 days ago or so. I left the pan on the oven the rest of the day and at night I put it IN the oven, then the next morning (my daughter was home with me and I wanted to make us eggs. So, I was debating whether or not to make more bacon since I had eaten so much the day before then I figured, "either way, I still need the pan" So, I opened the oven, took it out and kinda freaked out! The bacon fat, (which was in solid form all the time except right after I had cooked the bacon) was what looked like, kinda "licked off" about 1/4th of the area that was originally there the last time I had seen. So I yelled at my daughter to come upstairs cuz i really was freaked out! Well she comes up and I show it to her and I ask her, "babe, check this out, did you do that?" She looks at me like all teens do when they think you've lost your marbles, and says sarcastically, "yeah sure mom I did that!" I tell her "no wait, hold on, for real, I put this in the oven last night and this is what is looks like now, come here, look at it, doesn't it look weird?" She says gross mom it looks like the the cat or dog was licking it off. I said, yeah I know right! but it was IN the oven! she shook her head and traveled back down stairs. Well, needless to say, I scraped the rest out into the trash, washed the pan with hot water and soap, got the other half of yesterdays raw bacon, cooked it and all was well. THEN, it was the holiday, so of course my daughter and I went out of the city to relatives, ate and she stayed there and I went to my b.f's house over night and now its tonight and I am home and the dirty pan caught my eye on the stove and I looked at it and took a double take and was shocked! The same markings were in the pan again!!! This time it was left outside on top of the oven so I'm examining it all up close and freaked out again and guys,,,,,, I REALLY want to know, WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK IT WAS??? Am I just trippn? I dont think so! Im not the type of person who sees, hears, or imagines stuff that isn't really there. You kno what I mean? Now let me give you just a little back ground about my place: Have you ever seen Bird on a Wire? Its with Goldie Hon (sp) and Mel Gibson (I think) and they are running away from??? any way, they rent this dive motel place to stay one night and while she is in the shower, she looks up at the shower head and this huge bug the size of an egg falls on her. Well any way, Its very very odd (I think) (cuz I grew up here in this state and I never saw those bugs here but had read about them and learned that they are a roach from texas or florida or something and sometimes they get so big they fly! Well like I said I did not think those were in my state but, they ARE cuz I have seen them around my house crawling around it out side and inside too but only in the basement, (or downstairs). Well any way, now that its winter, sometimes we might get a mouse or two but I have a cat and a mouser dog and I just dont think they make it too far around here cuz I have never SEEN any with my own eyes here at this house...... SO..... Im wondering,,,,, WHAT DO you guys think happened to the bacon grease that I left in the pan on those two separate occasions???? There are no tracks in or out of the pan and when you look at the pan up close, it does look like it could have even been finger prints kinda, or something but its so freaking gross, freaky, and ODD, I just cant believe it! I even started think'n "who's got a video recorder I can borrow so I can catch it in the act?" But there is no one. I want to melt down the rest of the fat that is left in the pan, let it get hard again and leave it there one more night after i kick my cat out for the night and check it again tomorrow but really, AM I just weirding out or what???? PLEASE AS STUPID or FUNNY or GROSS AS THIS MIGHT SOUND, try not to be too rude or anything and (please) tell me, what do you think it was or IS??? Thanks guys! ( if there is no other way of answering but rudely, go for it, we all need a laugh BUT, leave your email so I can get back at you!!! j/k lol! Anyway, get back to me k? Thanks!  more

Voting Question: How long is it going to take to receive the second extension for unemployment in Florida?

I have been filling out applications, sending resumes and gone to job fairs and found that so many people are now unemployed in the Tampa area, and with the hollidays coming , companies are waiting to see what the new administration is going to do before they hire. Maybe someone spoke too soon. I did not get the full 13 weeks extension. I received 9 weeks. So, do I understand now they think 7 weeks will get us thru? The Florida unemployment site doesnt have any information yet. What are other unemployed Floridians doing when it comes to feeding your families, and paying your living expenses? I even tried day labor and they have no work for a woman, or you need to travel to find work, and that means your car better be in great shape. My car is 9 years old, and I live in a rural area, so we have no public transportation. Is it just Florida that has these obsticals and cut backs that seem to hurt the ones that would take any job to stop this chaos.  more

Resolved Question: Recently got a cold, which isn't too bad during the day, but at night I have a constant cough?

with nearly every breath i take at night, I end up needing to cough. my throat doesn't hurt, and my nose runs just a little. Is this just part of a cold, or could I also be developing asthma, or something else? I'm used to the warm climate of florida, and visiting my family in wisconsin, and this started 2 days after i came up here. Its even worse when I'm breathing in cold air. This coughing is making my lungs hurt too, the weird thing is I cough mainly at night, I may have a few during the day but its like nothing. Night quil doesn't help the cough, all it does is ends up making me fall asleep due to it being a meds that make you drowsy. Should i go to a fast care tomorrow? as I'm traveling back home on sat. and tired of coughing soo much at night. and what might be some home remedies to help, Honey didn't do anything. I want to be able to breath! I'm tired of coughing. I will. I'm really thinking its asmtha, I've nvr had a cough like this at night. I do know that florida, has more moister in the air than what wisconsin has right now. i don't think its post nasel drip, as It hits around 10pm , and I'm usually not in bed till 2 am.  more

I think I'll see about getting an inhaler and the anti biotics to see what they can do to help, mainly the inhaler, so I can breath without needing to cough all night. my cough gets the worse while I'm still up moving around, and like right around 10pm, on the spot, the cough starts to really come on. I think the climate change, may also play a part in the cough, as it is a big difference, and its a lot drier here, than what I'm used to in florida, so that might be irratating my lungs.  more

Voting Question: Do you think I have any reason to be afraid of flying?

Ok so for the past few years my family and I have driven to Florida because of flights beng so expensive. Lucky me. Now they found flights at a reasonable price and we are flying. Because I am paranoid, I am scared to fly. I have seen waaay too many things on tv, plus 9/11 didn't help. I understand that something lke 50,000 people are killed every year by car accidents and all of 4,000 people are killed from planes crashing, plus they're little private planes. I still can't get it through my head that flying is probably one of the safest ways to travel. We are flying from Detroit to Ft.Meyers at the end of December with Spirit. Do I really have anything to worry about?? Thanks Ahaha trust me I know about the bathrooms. I flew to California when I was 6. I plan on holding it.  more

Resolved Question: Hows this so far.. if I continued would you be interested in reading it?

Note that I didn't revise this, so there are probably lots of mistakes. Just what do you think of it so far, would you be interested on reading more? Also, the chapter isn't finished yet.. thats just the start. thanks :) BOOK: Puzzle Pieces CHAPTER:Six Years It had been nearly 6 years since I last went up to Maine for the Winter. I missed the snow, the skiing, the occasional deer; all the things that were non-existing in Florida. My old friend who I used to play with when I was younger moved to Maine, apparently in a large cabin near a ski resort his family owned. Luckily, that guaranteed us free season passes whenever we came up for a visit. It was a pleasant 54 degrees in West Palm Beach. A few clouds that had a resemblance to cauliflower, and there was still morning dew left on the grass. The four bags we had were shoved awkwardly in the car, piling on top of each other like four clumsy bags of potatoes. Never mind the fact it was only my dad, my mom, and I traveling. Our fourth bag was filled with all our snow gear, that we finally found after 4 hours of searching down in the basement. I walked outside and sat on the steps. Three months of staying outside in the cold. “You’ll probably need an extra jacket to bring with you on the plain ride, and when we arrive. It’s suppose to be 32 degrees in Maine!” My mom’s hands flew up, we never saw those digits in Florida before. “I’ll be fine, mom. I’ll grab it out of my bag when we get there..” I sounded annoyed, but the thing was that my mom was a hoverer. She always hovered around us, she did that with my 19 year old sister, too. Lucky for her, she moved out. “Oh, are you sure? Please, take it for me,” I heard someone yell out from inside the house, “We don’t need it! We already have one shoved in the car, now lets go!” My mom yelled, I was pretty sure the neighbors could here us. As I got out of the plane and walked out that long connector into the main place I saw Jasper standing there smiling; along with his mom and sister. It had been six years since I had last saw him, when I was seven and he was eight. I turned to look back and there was my mom and dad, my mom with her huge tote and my dad who already had on his grey and navy winter coat on. That was dad for you, always prepared and embarrassing at the same time. There was Alice. She was standing next to her mom, playing with some electronic device. She was never much of a talker, not even as a toddler. She was always more focused on putting the blocks in the correct slots or trying so hard to color in-between the line, one of the things most toddlers never cared about. Jasper walked over and game me a hug, boy I missed him. He was one of those guys who was really just your friend, could listen, could talk, and could totally either bore you or annoy you. His hair had darkened since the last time I saw him. I remember, it used to be a dirty blonde but now it was almost as dark as mine. He had it tousled gently, and I knew he must have used gel or some type of styling cream. “Hey Dakota, how’s it going?” He released me for a few second and smiled his crooked smile. The same one he had six years ago. “Nothing much, how’s the ski resort going? It’s so great to see you.” I tucked my hair under my ear. “Ahh.. Its ok. We haven’t had any snow yet, and our snow machines aren’t working well. But yeah, its great to see you.” We walked out of the terminal after getting our bags. The parking garage was surprisingly empty, only a couple other cars compared to the over thousands in Florida. Jasper’s mom found the silver minivan and we hoped in after putting the bags in the trunk. It was a typical car ride, catching up on things, and listening to the meaningless chatter. All I wanted was to ski already, even if the snow machines weren’t working. holy crud I just realized that.. snort I like twilight, but I really had no intention to using those names... wow thanks for pointing that out.  more

Resolved Question: How long does it take for an EU passport holder to get through US passport control at present? ?

Since 9/11, I've heard various horror stories - that it takes several hours. I am an Irish citizen who has never travelled outside of Europe, but I am considering a trip to Florida for some winter sunshine with American friends. However, I have no intention of being interrogated, fingerprinted or DNA swabbed like a common criminal just for the sake of a holiday. How bad is it these days? Your recent experiences would be greatly appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: Saving Money on Rehearsal Dinner?

Tell me if I'm being a tightwad or being unreasonable. I'm already spending $18,000 on my wedding day. I don't feel that I need to wine & dine my wedding party the night before the wedding for the rehearsal dinner. My fiance is unemployed right now and the job market is tight. I really want to keep the cost of the rehearsal dinner down. There is a hall in our local community park (no different from an Elks Lodge or VFW Hall) that is really nice and includes use of the kitchen, all tables & chairs for only $150. I was going to ask some family & friends to help me prepare the food and set it up like a buffet style dinner. Pretty much a casual & relaxed rehearsal dinner. I also figured that dealing with BJ's or Costco I'd save a bundle and could probably feed everyone & buy all the supplies for under $200 so the total cost would be about $350. To me, this sounds great! I love the idea of keeping it casual & friendly and cost-effective. The other perk to this is that it is easy to add people on with low additional cost if we find out that alot of family is traveling out the day before the wedding (fiance has some family in Florida, I have family from all over, too). My FSIL - one of my BMs - thinks I ought to have a sit down dinner with loads of alcohol for everyone! For starters, I don't want my wedding party getting smashed the night before the wedding so by keeping the dinner to the hall I'm preventing them from being able to get to alcohol (even if I did no liquor at a restaurant they could order for themselves separately). My fiance has said he likes the sound of the restaurant/sit-down dinner. But cost is starting to become a factor here. Also, if we do the restaurant, we can't include out-of-town family. We just couldn't afford it. Am I being unreasonable about wanting a casual rehearsal dinner where we can include extended family affordably & easily if we want? How formal was your rehearsal dinner? We have a very small place with 2BRs and no dining room and cannot possibly fit everyone at home (wedding party + spouses are 14 people, Ushers + readers 6 people, parents 3 more, Rev & Mrs add 2, Bride & Groom 2 more, Flowergirl & parents are 3 more). Its a must that we go somewhere, I'm just trying to keep the costs down. Just feeding 30 people at a restaurant with $20 meals would cost $600 before tax & tip. As for taking care of the BMs and Groomsmen. I hope we have accomplished that - - we are paying for their attire, and giving them nice gifts (I got a good deal and only paid about $45 per person but the BMs gift would sell for about $80 normally and GM's would be about $60).  more

im a male senior at one of the largest public high schools in the country (it had its own mtv show called "the paper"). i know most of you arent admissions officers, but i would just like to get a general idea. i have aspirations to go to medical school and am looking for a school at which i can find a good/healthy balance of fun and studying. thanks in advance. class rank 2/1270 4.0 unweighted gpa 34 act (36E 34M 32R 32S), 2070 sat 750M 680R 640W ap scholar with distiction national hispanic scholar harvard book award varsity basketball 2.5 years co captain jv basketball 1.5 yrs captain employed part time at ymca and publix supermarkets national honor society, spanish honor society future medical practitioners club, psychology club travel basketball team co captain 1 yr camp counselor summer basketball camp special olympics event coordinator 2008 kids in distress volunteer volunteer head coach ymca thats most of the stuff on my resume. but yea again this is just to get a general idea (not listed in any particular order) k the stuff above is copied and pasted, but now i'll delineate my worries about the ivy league schools i'm applying to. University of Notre Dame Vanderbilt University Harvard College (my sat scores: 750M 680R 640W - they are loooowww. at harvard the lowest 25% is 700 on each section. however, to counter my extremely low writing sat score, i got a 36 on act english. weird. do you think theyll only look at my highest scores? btw, i think my interview went really well.) Duke University Columbia College ( i think academically i have a good shot at this school, BUT our high school alone has 3 kids already committed to Columbia for athletics. Is this a significant disadvantage?) Stanford University Princeton University (worries are the same as harvard, although i think princeton might be a little harder to get into than harvard because the latter has a higher hispanic quota, but i like harvard better anyway so whatever) University of Pennsylvania (not too worried about this school relative to the others) Yale University (same situation as harvard) University of Florida thanks. again, i really appreciate this help because lately all ive been thinking about is girls and college and basketball, and i think you can help me with at least one of these lol.  more

Resolved Question: Question about finding bearing?

A river travels a diagonal path that leads 55 km to the east and 75 km to the south. What is the overall bearing of the river? I got 36.25 degrees but I don't know if it would be S 36.25 E or S 36.25 W. Two cities spread along the Florida coast. Hobe Sound is about 90 mi due north of Pompano Beach. At a certain time, the eye of a hurricane is 75 mi N 72 degrees E of Pompano Beach. (a) How far is the eye from land? (b) What is the bearing of the eye from Hobe Sound? (c) How far is the eye from Hobe Sound? I'm not sure what kind of diagram to use to figure these out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.  more
