I never give up but right now I'm at a point in my life when I just want to throw up my hands. I just have this profound gut feeling or conviction that I'm just destined to fail and be a loser and that no matter how hard I try nothing will go my way! That there's a destiny laid upon me and I don't have the power to control my life. I'm not sure if it's true but I can't shake the conviction that it is. I know just how nuts this sounds, but sometimes I feel like a bad wizard put a vindictive, powerful "failure curse" on me and that every attempt to change my life or do anything will just be magically thwarted. I want to go to another country and teach EFL (English as a Foreign Language) very, very badly. I speak perfect Spanish, have a TEFL certificate and have my HEART SET on going to Mexico to teach. Please don't try to talk me out of this... I am PROFOUNDLY unhappy here in the states and dont want to spend my life in a place where I'm unhappy. I studied in Mexico and know friends there and know what I'm doing. Even if others don't understand, I know that it's the right choice. I don't want to have an ordinary life, and stay in one place. I want so badly to travel and have unique adventures. I don't want to close the book on traveling the world and having adventures. I would feel as if my life were over. Here's the problem. It costs $$$ to go to another country, get set up and start a new life. Before I leave the USA, I find a job here in USA and save some $$$. I would be happy to have anything that's legal and moral because whatever it is I know it won't be forever. The trouble is, I can't find ANYTHING. I've tried advertising my services as a tutor and had absolutely no luck. I have classroom experience, retail experience, restaurant experience, I've never been in trouble with the police (sh*t I've never had a speeding ticket!), and in spite of that I have had no luck finding a job. I feel like all my dreams are billions and billions of miles away and I'm sitting in the dust alone. Well I think I've found a TEFL job in Mexico at a language school, they want me to start in a couple of months... but I have to save enough $$$ for the flight down there and my living expenses until I get paid! At first I was overjoyed about the TEFL job thing but now I'm so scared that it's not gonna work out. I've only got a couple months to get the $$$- and that's not much time! This is my dream and the thought of it not working out breaks my heart. I'm 31 and I've never had a real career in my life, and I feel like I deserve good things. I paid for college myself and had to sacrifice so much because my parents were fighting a lot, divorced and my mom was ill and my parents were not in a position to help me and I missed out on a lot of stuff that other kids get to have. I'm not feeling sorry for myself but I'm beginning to feel like going to college was a waste of my time and money. I never give up but lately I feel like trying to pursue my dreams is pointless and I should just throw up my hands. How do you deal with these feelings?Please don't try to talk me out of going to Mexico to teach or try to convince me to stay in the States. I know my own heart and I know that I don't belong here and that I'm profoundly unhappy here. I studied abroad in Mexico and had a VERY rough time readjusting when I returned to the States. That was a few years ago... and I am still unhappy and going through the same things. My heart is there and I don't belong here. A lot of people in USA have this really distorted idea that Mexico is a horrible violent place. The reality is that there are horrible parts but there are also beautiful cities that are just as safe as the USA. I've done research, talked to people and lived there and know what I'm doing. I'm so unhappy in the states! I know I've said this but I don't want an ordinary life. When I finished study abroad I was depressed because I thought I'd never travel or have an adventure again, when I found out about TEFL teaching it was like the answer to my prayers. more

Hi there, I'm in a bit of a pickle, basically in March I had to use the tram to get to my job centre to sign on as I hadnt been recieving money I had to travel without a ticket. I got a few fines, and haven't paid them. I just got a letter summoning me to court, but the thing is I just got a job, and I can't ask for the time off, plus my family would go mental, and I'm already in debt. Open Question: what is a 'Valid permit'?

When you go into a private car park and they say a 'Valid Permit' must be displayed . Do they actually have to have a sign somewhere that defines what is and isn't a valid permit. Otherwise how do you know if your permit is actually valid? e.g. the car park I use , we have tickets where you scratch the date of however one day I inadvertently scratched of the next days date and didn't notice. I would have said the ticket inspector should have used some common sense to see I hadn't indeed time travelled. However in their snotty letter they sent back when I challenged them they said that there is a sign saying a 'Valid permit' must be displayed. However there is nothing to say what they accept as acceptable scratching and what is unacceptable. I'm just wondering if that invalidates the sign? more

My friend is hoping to come home with me at Christmas and spend the holidays in the USA. He has a criminal record and therefore cannot travel under the Visa Waiver Program, so he has an interview scheduled at the US Embassy in London. I've listed all the details below to make it easier, and would appreciate any advice anyone has to offer. - He's a UK citizen and has never been the US before, nor has he ever been denied entry etc. - He's 22 years old, recently graduated university and is interning in the UK for the next 6 months. - He's applying for a B2 because he has a criminal record resulting from a 2006/2007 misdemeanor. - He plans to travel from UK to US and US back to UK with myself (US citizen) on the same flights. - He plans to fly to the US on December 8th and fly back to the UK on December 27th (3 weeks). - He'll be taking a bank statement (showing funds of $8,000), his graduation certificate, birth certificate, invitation/contact letter from my mom to stay with us, signed tenancy agreement for his London apartment ending in June 2012, high school letters/report cards, some utility bills further confirming his residence and a paid round trip ticket to his interview. - With regard to 'social ties', on top of his residence in the UK, his entire family are based over there. If there's anything else he should include, or if anything has been missed out I'd be really grateful if anyone could give their input. Thanks so much! more

Resolved Question: Describe your dream wedding?

I'd want a very small, intimate wedding. As far as guests go, I'd only want my immediate family there. My mom, brother, and grandparents. And maybe my closest friends if they feel like family to me. I'd want the same for my fiance, just his family & closest friends. I'd want a destination wedding. I'm torn between 2 places, either Sweden, where my grandparents live & where I plan to settle down after college, or this place --> http://tinypic.com/r/2db9fzr/7 <--, I have no clue where that is, it's just a screensavor, but the minute I saw it I could picture myself walking down that dock to get married. As far as the dress goes, I'd want something soft and romantic, with a corset, sweetheart neckline, and a full skirt made of tulle. I wouldn't spend ludacris amounts of money on the dress though, like $1000 would be enough. I watch Say Yes to the Dress sometimes & can't believe it when people pay upwards of $5000 for a dress they will wear ONCE in their life, it's insane. Since it's such a small wedding their won't really be a color scheme or anything like that. I think I'd just get married at that dock & then go to a REALLY nice restraunt & eat food, cut cake, and maybe dance or something. Then I'd say bye to the guests & start my honeymoon, which would be a week long of traveling! First we'd fly to Paris, & spend a day or two there, & then... well, I haven't figured out where else we'll go yet, but it will be a week of excitment and adventure, that's for sure! The whole affair would only last a few hours. I'm guessing it will still be pretty expensive though, since it's a destination wedding and all. Hopefully since I'll be working as a flight attendant I can get a discount on the tickets & keep it somewhat reasonable, I think under $20,000 would be a good price for a decent wedding. & I think the ideal age to get married at would be 24, after a year long engagment. Open Question: need legal advice about an assault... live in surrey, british columbia?

im a 21 year old female and ive never been in trouble before.. not even a speeding ticket. In may this year my boyfriend of 6 years and I got in an argument and he tried to detain me apparently and held my hands behind my back and to get him to let me go i scratched his arms and since i was on my way out the door i had my car keys in my hand and the keys scratched him. he called the cops on me and i got arrested for assault with a weapon. i went to court and the crown wanted me to plead guilty to assault with a weapon and be let go on a condition discharge - anger management counseling. i didn't agree with that seeing as i did not intentionally try and hurt him with the keys, and i was trying to get him to let me go in self defense since he is twice my size i had to scratch him. so ive decided to reject that and go to trial on oct 25th and represent myself. i talked to duty counsel and they had mentioned that if i go to trial and my boyfriend doesn't show up chances are the charges will just be dropped. ( my boyfriend says he will not be showing up to trial as he doesn't want me charged now anyways ) BUT there is always the chance that during trial the judge will just decide to keep the original decision of a conditional discharge. which will put me on probation. my question is... if worse comes to worse and the charges are not dismissed and i am put on probation with the conditional discharge.. I am supposed to be going traveling nov 20th this year to south east asia for 3 months.. will i be able to travel??? i have had the fight booked for months and months.. so this is devastating to me and i cant bare to wait till my court date oct 25 to find out whats going to happen. do i have a good chance the charges will just be dropped if he doesn't show up? i hope someone can help me... thank youALSO- my boyfriend already tried to drop the charges, he couldnt do so. they denied. more

Open Question: Should boyfriend have asked me to go to the game?

I'm 58, my boyfriend is 61. He has seasonal football tickets, and has had them for over 20 years. Last year I didn't miss one game and even got to go to the super bowl with him. He owns a company and is the owner and boss. A few times a year he has times for him and his employees only, such as big Christmas parties, etc. This time he is taking all of them to the game, which is only a pre-season game, but since he bought extra tickets for many of them, I feel left out. I guess I do not understand why I cannot go. These are couples who work for him and I know every one of them very well, because we have all been together for dinners and even vacations. They all know and love me as I do them. There are 3 married couples going plus another woman who is married but is traveling to our state alone for the business part of the trip, yet she is going to the game since she too is working with my boyfriend. I'm in no way concerned there is anything going on between them, that is not an issue in the least. So supposedly only people who work for my boyfriend are going. Yet I am positive that one of the husbands who does NOT work for him is going. He is his secretary's husband. I feel that if HE is going, I see no reason why me being the boss's g/f, cannot go as well. I have not said anything to my boyfriend because we have had other disagreements on this same issue. When parties and things come up, I'm not allowed, it's employee people only. This is one of the major things that bothers me in our relationship. I realize he is an important businessman and there has to be meetings and all, but is this how business is ran normally? Do other business people give their people huge bonus trips and vacations and tickets to football games and throw lavish parties and NOT include their spouse or significant other? This one thing bothers me so much, yet he is a great guy in almost all other ways. I am a HUGE football fan, and love going. He knows this of course. I have been seeing him for 2 years. I'm asking on behalf of my younger brother who doesn't have a Yahoo account, but just wondering what documents are required when you go to your interview at the US Embassy in London? He's got his interview scheduled, but just wants to make sure that he's not missing anything out/is fully prepared. He plans to spend Christmas with his girlfriend in Georgia, but due to a past criminal record cannot travel under the VWP. He was charged with 'obtaining property by deception in February 2007 and received a £2,000 fine and 200 hours community service. He graduated from university earlier this summer, so should he bring things like his graduation certificate along? He's planning to bring along copies of his tenancy agreement, birth certificate etc...is this good to do so? Also, as he's interning for the next 6 months our parents are supporting him and have already paid for a round trip. Should he print out his tickets, show receipts and bring along an up to date bank statement? My parents deposited £5,400 into his account at the end of August for living expenses etc, and to prove that he gets support - does this look good or is not important? I'm a sophomore in high school, and my grades and classes are as follows: PE (A+), AP Biology (A-), Algebra 2 Accelerated (A+), AP World History (B+/0.31% away from an A), English Accelerated (B-), and AP Spanish (B+/0.5% away from an A-). So considering my classes, I have a 4.0 GPA, but I could do a little better in English if it weren't for my b*tchy English teacher. So my school is doing a trip to Europe to England, France, and Spain for 2 weeks, and I've never been traveling (literally). So since my grades are not good enough for my mom's lunatic standards, she doesnt think I deserve to go on that trip (even though we can afford it). She expects at least an A- in ALL of my classes, even the AP classes, and she says that my grades and a change in my attitude (which is a result of her b*tching about my grades) is my ticket to Europe. My question is that do you guys think its reasonable for her to put so many limitations on me when (a) Europe is like once in a lifetime, (b) I'm doing very good and have a 4.0 GPA, and (c) The year just started, and my grades in December are what the colleges care about? I know that she wants the best for me, I get that, but it doesn't justify her yelling at me and threatening to put me in regular classes. I have such a high ambition to go to Europe, I love the culture, and her not letting me go over "bad grades" according to her, is stupid! She never even graduated from high school!
