Open Question: How much will it cost for a 4 month trip to Europe in the "off-season"?

Me and 1 other person are going to travel to Europe this September to January... exactly four months to the day. We are visiting Ireland, Spain, possibly Germany France, Italy and Greece. I have family in Ireland, Germany, Spain and Italy in the main capitals that we can stay with. We are spending 3 weeks in Ireland, 3 weeks in Spain, a month in Italy, a month in France, and 3 weeks in Greece. I have 4,500 saved up. Will this be enough? My plane ticket is already bought (I got it for under 1,000 dollars round trip - Flying into Dublin, Flying out of Athens), and since I know people in almost every country we won't need to stay in hostels 24/7. We are ready to live cheap and frugal. Is this going to be enough money to cover daily food costs, eurorail passes, and museum tickets for 4 months? I am also looking into getting a work permit somewhere -- prob. Ireland or Spain -- so I can work if I run out of money; they're just super hard to get. Any info would be great! more

Open Question: How can i make a romantic first date for a girl?

Ok, I recently met a girl and shes shown very strong signs that she likes me. Sadly i never thought of her this way and now that i have i would really like to ask her out. I wanna see her soon but tonight i don't think i should since its very late and tomorrow i'm gonna be in london and traveling most of the day and won't be back until at least 9pm. I'm planing on calling her tomorrow and asking her out on friday night and tell her i like her back and wanna take her on a date. Her personality is different, she lives a low income life and doesn't go out allot since shes still in school. I was thinking taking her out to Bath ( a Local large city) and maybe hang around with her, maybe watch a film. Of course pay for the tickets and maybe a gift. She honestly is really clingy to me and whenever we see each other its like we are already a couple. I wanna think of a nice way to ask her out? Also any good first date ideas?. Shes 15 and i'm 17. more

Open Question: What are the rules of flying standby?

I am leaving to travel Europe in a couple weeks and want to fly standby. Im leaving the Calgary International Airport and flying to London. The only luggage I will be bringing is a 55L backpack. Will they allow me to use this as carry on? If not, can I still fly standby? I know that by flying standby I wait till the last minute and take the seats of any passenger that misses their flight, but do I pay before I go past security or when I get on the plane? Do I still pay taxes for the flight? What is the average price of a ticket? I am still wondering if I should maybe purchase a last minute flight. Will that be a better option? It is aproximately $400 for an economy seat including tax. Can I get a better deal with standby? And if i fly standby and a 2nd class seat comes available, will I have to pay more for the seat? Thanks. more

Hi, I am travelling to South America in 4 weeks and as I am coming out of being a full time student I will be doing it on the cheap. I already have accomodation paid for, and also my air tickets. I am planning on travelling to England and study their in May. I will be done with my studying and still there around May 25-June 2. I was wanting to see a football game there or even would be willing to maybe go to France or Spain in order to see one since Ive heard amazing things about the passion people have for these matches there. Resolved Question: Please help - Is this Fair? Legal? Can I fight it? Insurance issue?

I had tickets a long time ago that were uncontested in the state of NY, because I was no longer a resident. It was for no license, no insurance and no reg, and since I couldnt travel to court it ended up being a default conviction. So as a single mother struggling as it was, I was unable to pay my 1500.00 fines untill last year. I got my permit again in NY, scheduled a road test (haven't gone yet), got a car, insured it and registered it, spent thousands of dollars, and was told my car insurance would have a high premium for 3 years from the date my fines were paid, which is rediculous but ok. So I had a premium for about 3 months, and now they want to raise it AGAIN because I didn't have a licsence for 3 years. I didn't drive, I didn't have a car or have any reason to drive, and already reapplied for a permit and then a lisence so how can they even tack this on?? It's getting to where I can't afford to freaking get to work and support my self and my daughter. This can't be right! Any thoughts? (btw I know I spelled lisence wrong, I always do, I don't know why... I'm in a rush sorry) more

Open Question: I have heard about a way to travel cheaply across the USA to sight see..please advise.?

Hello all, I have seen somewhere on the web...it said that Amtrak offers something like a 30 day unlimited nationwide rail pass for only $286 or close to that... where you can travel anywhere in USA that you want to...I imagine this as like one of those wristbands at the county fair where you can ride all the different ones unlimited all you want...is this the correct assumption? Has anyone ever bought one of these $286 tickets? I know there are regional tickets for less...I think the unlimited pass for the Northeast is something like $199 or something...anyways...I am looking for anyone with firsthand experience with rail travel of this kind? Or if you have rail travel experience at all. I am retired and thinking about traveling my country alone and staying at Youth Hostels...I have read up on it and you can stay at them very cheap...and they arent just for youths anymore...I have also investigated "couch crashers"...another option. I am thinking of backpacking across the usa but with an HI card for the Hostels and also joining "couchcrashers" and also buying this rail pass...I get a fixed income of $1560 per month but it is all disposable..I have no savings...but I think with this rail pass and one months check in my pocket....I should be able to see a lot of America, i.e. Grand canyon, Golden Gate, Statue of Liberty, etc... with one of these rail passes and $1500 to spend on food for the month if I lodge cheaply. Has anyone ever had any experience with any of this? also, is there high speed internet available on Amtrak trains? I would need to take my laptop for my Yahoo Answers of course! haha I have spent the last few years laying in bed recovering from an accident and am now able to get up and around....I would like to go to see some things around the US now...I am sick of lying here. Please offer any advice if you have any at all experience with any of the above. Thank you in advance for your time, Perry in FL more

Open Question: Did I get a speeding ticket or not?

I live in California, in San Jose (Bay Area). Today I was traveling on US 101 freeway. It was like 10:45 AM. It was sunny. There wasn't much traffic on the freeway. It was like cool. Some cars were going at around 72-75 in the Diamond lane or the carpool lane and the one to right to it. I was following a Lexus which was crusing at about 72-73 miles in diamond lane. There was a jeep behind me. Then the Lexus guy went to the one right lane but I kept going in diamond. After a while (1 min. after) I saw a cop with his car parked to the left of even the Carpool lane in which I was going (i mean he was located near the divider of the freeway which separates the traffic traveling in different directions). He had some HANDYCAM type of device in his hand. I immediately figured out it was some radar device. I couldn't check my speed for sure but I immediately applied brakes (not harshly but very softly to slow down a bit). I guess I was somewhere in between 70-75 and then slowed down to a shade below 70 as I approached the cop. BUT, BUT HE DIDN'T FOLLOW ME. I checked in the rear view mirror he kept on doing what he was doing. What's the probability that I might have got a speeding ticket? I never got any ticket before, so I don't know how it all works. Do the cops follow you and pull you over to give you ticket in such a scenario? Additional Details: I was traveling in a Chevy Cobalt with no exterior modifications. It was just a bland rental car. Car's lights were ON. The posted speed limit is 65 on this freeway. Thanks... PS: Please ask for additional details if you need to. more

Open Question: Whats a cheap airline ?

So i plan on traveling on Friday March 5th. From Los Angeles, CA to Oklahoma City, OK. And dates are not flexible. Is there any certain trusted airline that there will be cheap tickets. Please Help ! Thank Youu :) more

Resolved Question: How does American Airlines handle no-shows?

I know they charge a hefty $200 cancellation fee if you call to cancel in advance. I also know that your ticket is forfeit - though that point is moot for non-refundable tickets (assume that there is no way a refund is possible). In the case of a non-refundable ticket, the airline technically isn't losing money since the seat is paid for (one could even argue the airline saves on fuel). The question is: what can they do (and what do they do) about no-shows? Context: I'm studying the cost of air travel and I'm trying to understand how pricing is calculated for different types of tickets.Just to clarify, they DO charge cancellation fees (as most airlines), and non-refundable tickets are just that - non-refundable. more

Open Question: Air travel question??????????

In an upcoming connecting flight to Brazil, I will be flying nashville to houston. and then from houston to brazil on continental. i know that my carry on suitcase is within size restrictions (i measured) , but have been told the first plane is small with minimal space in the overhead compartment. i was told by a family member that rather than boarding the plane and realizing my bag won't fit and having to bug a flight attendant while everyone is trying to board, once boarding began and the airport person took my ticket from me, i should tell them i needed a bag tag because i didn't think my bag would fit in the overhead compartment. they would put a blue tag on the bag and give me part of it which i would hold on to myself. i would then leave the bag at the end of the jetway and board the plane with my personal item. then, i would pick up the bag in the jetway again when i got off the plane. is this true and who exactly do i tell that i need to do this? and what exactly should i say so they understand this is the process i am talking about? (not cheking the bag to be picked up at the baggage claim...which i think is called gate checking). anyone else do this? more

A friend of mine has a disability due to cancer and cannot walk very far. She has a Disability Identification Card from a different state. Open Question: Can someone help me remember a computer game from about 20 years ago?

In the game you were this little man and you would travel from city to city on train. When you got to the new city you would walk around letting your crystals out so that they could multiply into new crystals. The problem was, when you released your crystals, the other people walking around in the city would try to steal your crystals. I don't remember what the point of the game was. I think it was to just multiply your crystals. I also don't remember why you traveled from city to city but you would buy your ticket for the train leaving at a certain time and then have to race to the train station to try to make your train. I remember playing the game around 1991 or so. thanks! more

Open Question: Question about speeding ticket, need advice.?

The other night I got pulled over by a cop who was hiding in his car with his no squad lights on. I thought they cant pull you over without those on. However that's besides the point. When he wrote the ticket, he made a big mistake. He put my actual speed was 45, and that the posted limit was 58 which is what i was going. So he swapped the two around by accident. If i go into the prosecutors office and say that there was a discrepancy about the speed i was traveling so I feel this ticket should be inadmissible, do you think it should be thrown out because of the error the cop made? more

Resolved Question: Girls, am I crazy for thinking somethings there?

I like the new girl a work. Everyone thinks we already have something going on just by how we act around each other, so we played a little joke on everyone around Valentines Day, making it look like we went away together for the weekend. She has a boyfriend, but she told me she doesnt know how much longer they will be together, cuz he never takes her anywhere and shes pretty much bored, and she said she wouldnt have told me if she didnt want me to know. Anytime I talk about another girl, she seems to completely stop what shes doing and pays attention, but that may just be me. She tries to hint to me that she wants me to invite to places wherre I go with my friends, so I told her yesterday I just wouldnt feel comfortable taking a girl that has a boyfriend, and she knows it would feel wierd but she would also like it too. Weve talked about getting tickets to a college football game out of state just so we could travel for a few days. And I dont remember how, but she got the nickname Mrs. Tempting as my nickname for her, and she said she had to find one for me, and the next day she sent that i was "Mr. Irresistable" and if you put us together were irresistably tempting. I've been wrong before, am I just a friend? more

Open Question: Zurich Airport(Flughafen) to Feldkirch or Bregenz?

I've got a pressing question to all the people who reside in either Switzerland or Austria, or to anyone who can help me with my problem, would appreciate it a lot. I am a Singaporean, aged 17, backpacking alone and I intend to buy a Eastern European Eurail Pass. Now, that covers Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary. However this doesn't cover Switzerland. This is where the problem is. I am to board Singapore Airlines SQ 346 departing SIN Singapore Changi on the 28th March and arrive on the same day at 0800hrs at ZRH Zurich Flughafen(Airport). Question 1: I intend to take the 0928hrs InterCity train(with reservations) from ZRH Zurich Flughafen to Bregenz. Will I make the connection? Given I have only about 1hour to make the connection because I have to purchase the ticket for the ZRH Flughafen to Bregenz sector and make the reservation. Question 2: In the event that I am unable to fulfill the sector travel in Qn1, I want to spend some time touring ZRH's airport viewing gallery and go to Zurich Hauptbahnhof by 1p.m to catch the Railjet operated by the OBB to Vienna. But to do this, I need to buy a ticket for all sectors in Switzerland, namely ZRH Airport/Flughafen to Zurich HB, and Zurich HB to Feldkirch(the Swiss/Austrian border town) where I can use my Eurail Eastern Europe Pass in 1st class. How much does the two sectors listed above cost? I know for the Railjet's Zurich HB to Feldkirch sector, I need to book and reserve a ticket. How, where and approximately how much does it cost for a 2nd class reservation plus the tickets itself? It would be good if you can break down the cost. Thanks to all who can possibly help! more

Open Question: Process of watching the Olympics first-hand?

I'm not trying to compete in the Olympics, but I do want to travel and watch the sports first-hand. I'm planning on watching the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Do you have to buy tickets or something to the events you want watch? If so, when and where? And I'm guessing you buy plane tickets and reserve hotel rooms as you would on vacation? thanks :) more

Resolved Question: Girls, is this girl just a friend?

I've been wrong before, am I just a friend? more

Resolved Question: Does US Airways complimentary sodas have unlimited refills or do they charge after the first?

I'm traveling soon to visit my brother in the Navy and after the purchase of my ticket I won't have that much money left so I don't plan on purchasing any food on my five hour flight so I was just wondering if I will have at least something to drink. more
