Disneyland Vacation Questions asked

Open Question: Where is a good place to stay for a Southern California vacation?

traveling for a week from Iowa, want to see all of the main attractions of Southern California such as the beach (suggestions please?), Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Staples Center, Disneyland, etc. Where would be a good central and safe location to stay that would be convenient to most of these destinations? Also if you have any tips or ideas on visiting that area please let me know! Thanks! more

Open Question: Things to do in California summer vacation near Disneyland?

So over the summer, Im planning a vacation for me and my girlfriend to disneyland. Were planning to stay near the park for around 2-3 days but after we want to experience other parts of CA. Were flying to ca from jersey and were only 21 so we cant rent a car. So were looking for places to go near disneyland thats within taxi range, and get a hotel, perhaps near a beach. Im not familiar with the area at all so any ideas will be appreciated! By the way, we dont drink so no clubs or anything like that. Just beaches, fun things to do and see. Stuff like that. Thanks! We would gladly rent a car and drive somewhere but by law you have to be 25. more

Open Question: Cheap motels near Anaheim/Orange area?

I'm going to be staying at least from April 22nd to April 26th, possibly longer, although there is a vague possibility of checking out a day or two early if I am offered a place to stay by a relative. I DO NOT CARE if there is a layer of filth on the floor, I'm cuddling rats, and playing whack-a-mole with cockroaches. I do not care if the staff is rude. I do not care if I have to do an Olympic-worthy run through a bevy of hookers and drug dealers to get to my room. I want a bathroom (preferably with a tub), electricity, and a bed. Don't even need a tv, though I'd imagine its pretty standard. I've had pretty dark times in my past, so rest assured that such an environment wouldn't ruin my vacation at all; I'm trying to avoid sleeping in my car, because I think that would. In the past, when I've gone places, I've done internet research on motels and hotels, and always found something cheaper advertised on a sign when I got there . . . I remember once stopping in Illinois and a front desk staff member assuring me I'd find nothing cheaper than his $55 a night. At the next interstate exit, I found one for $24. In my experience the cheapest rooms are unknown motels that don't show up online, so I'm sort of interested in those. It's just me staying and I am a smoker so a smoking room is ok, but I don't smoke inside at home so a nonsmoking room is fine as well. No pets. No need for amenities. Anything within about 15 miles is good; further is also ok if its cheap enough to make up for gas. I plan to go to Disneyland or other touristy places, but the primary function of the trip is meeting long-lost family. I've found a room that is listed as $35 for weekdays and $40 for the weekends; after taxes the four-night stay comes to about $168. I know that's not bad, but I've already taken too many "little luxuries" regarding this trip. I didn't do comparative rates on my rental car at all, so I'm trying to trim the fat. Thanks. more

Open Question: 10 day Disney World Family Vacation. What to do and when?

My family of 5 (2 adults, 17 year old, 14 year old, 8 year old) are going to Disney World for 10 days - 2 days flying=8 days in the parks.. so really 8 days. How many days should we spend in each park? - Animal Kingdom - Epcot - Magic Kingdom - Hollywood Studios - Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure - Seaworld (optional) Last time we went to Disney (that time Disneyland) we really liked having the last day free to do our favorites. Do you think this is possible again? Then we did California Adventure in 2 days and Disneyland in 2 days, leaving one day left to do favs. We have the park hopper option. If you have other suggestions (ie. eating, favorites, other attractions etc. please let me know) Lastly, we are flying on a wednesday, stay Th, F, Sa, Su, M, Tu, W, Th, and fly back on Friday. Which days should we go to each park to you think based on the number of days we should spend in each park and how busy the parks are on given days of the week? Thank you so much for your help!Leaving Edmonton March 24, 2010 (wednesday) more

Resolved Question: Disneyland Or Disney World?

My mom and I(I'm 13) wanted to go on a Disney vacation for my birthday in july. We have gone to Disneyland about 10 times and we like it a lot better then Disney World which we've only been to a couple of times. At this point, we are just trying to find the cheapest place to go, Disneyland or Disney World? We would most likely fly(we did the calculations, its cheaper from Colorado), and probably stay in a cheap hotel within walking distance of the park. Which park is overall cheapest? Including the whole package, hotel, flight, park, and so on... Thanks! more

Voting Question: How To Pack For Disneyland Vacation With Boyfriend's family????

I am going to disneyland/southern california with my boyfriend's family and I don't know what to pack. I am staying in my own room, and I am 18 years old. We are going for 7 days, and we will be in disneyland for most of the time, but we are going to other places too. They don't really plan ahead for their vacations, so I don't know exactly what clothes to pack, but i don't want to NOT have something that i need during the vacation...help please!!I am going to Disneyland/Souther California with my boyfriend's family and I have never gone on vacation before without my own family, so I don't really know what i need to pack. I want to be prepared for anything that we do, but I also want to avoid packing way too much and having to pay extra for my baggage and stuff. Also, how much money should I take with me so that they don't have to pay for everything? We will be in disneyland most of the time, but they said we will also go other places. If you have any suggestions on the best ways to pack or what clothes to bring, etc. that would be great!!! By the way, we are going for about a week. more

Voting Question: Im going to Orlando to Disneyworld alone for two days. Can you tell me what attractions are the must sees?

Spring break is coming up at my school so I'm going on a vacation alone, yes alone to Disneyworld. Since I'm coming from California I had enough to pay for the flight and the park tickets for 2 days. Ill get there on thursday and go to the parks Friday and Saturday. Im planning on seeing Orlando Thursday. Im excited and nervous at the same time. Ive never flown before! Anyway my top goals were to visit the magic kingdom and the animal kingdom for sure. Not so sure what the other two have but I figured since Im at Disneyworld, might as well go to them all because I have a two day parkhopper. Being a California resident, I have been to Disneyland a lot so I was thinking the Magic Kingdom visit could be a "half day" visit and then head to another park. So those of you familiar with Disneyworld, tell me what are must sees so I can make a priority list. So far this is what I want to do: Space Mountain Expedition Everest Safari ride Soarin over California Just add to the list! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Help. Need advice, had an arguement with husband..?

over what i believe is not worth the frustration. My husband and i had an arguement on how to spend the tax refund we will be getting soon. Its a pretty good amount. He wants to go on vacation to disneyland to take the kids and also move at the same time. I know he has a very stressful job and he deserves to relax but i really dont see how we can do both. My arguement is that the rent rate is over 1500 just for a 2 bedroom and usually what is asked is for 2 mnths deposit some money for the realty and moving expenses. Taking a vacation to Disneyland can also be extremely expensive specially the way he wants to do it,which is renting a house with a pool for about 5 to 6 days, also take in accnt air fare and ticket money to get into the park and spending money. I think we should just do one not both. Right now its decided on doing both, so im going with his plan and trying my best not to be negative in any way. Should i continue my arguemnt or just leave it as it is. Thnx. more

Resolved Question: What should I do about my step-daughter and her mother?

The film rights to a novel I wrote have been sold for a very substantial amount of money. To celebrate this achievement and share my good fortune I am taking my children, step-children, grandchildren and step-grandchildren to California the week of the movie producers’ pre-production party. We’ll spend a couple of days at Disneyland for the kids (ranging in age from 12 yrs. to 4 yrs.) as well as a day getting an “insiders” tour of the movie studios. The grandchildren and step-grandchildren are all very excited about this – especially the older ones. I’m hoping this will be a grand family vacation – with one exception. My husband and I and our adult children have been invited to the pre-production party WITHOUT the children. The studio is vetting highly qualified nannies to stay with the grandchildren during the party and the children’s parents will be interviewing them over the phone and make the final decision for 3 “sitters.” Everyone is fine with this arrangement – except for my husband’s daughter, who insists that her mother be included in the expense paid vacation to help out with step-daughter’s 3 girls & step-son’s 2 little boys on the children inclusive outings, and while the adults attend the party. My step-son and daughter-in-law are fine with the original arrangements – and have said so – but they are hesitant to get involved any further. I understand their position and have respected their wish to be left out of it. (I’ve heard that step-son’s sister & mother have not been so respectful.) I and my husband do NOT want to include his ex-wife. Suffice it to say that she is a mean, vindictive person who has done everything in her power to cause problems between my husband and me and his children and family. Early on I took my step-son’s current stand of staying out of it all; although that position has created even more animosity from her. As nicely as we could, my husband and I have told my step-daughter that this is to be a FAMILY vacation, and that we really don’t consider her mother part of our family. Step-daughter’s comeback to that was that her mother is part of HER family and if she’s not included step-daughter and her husband and girls will stay home as well. My husband and I, my kids – even my step-son – agree that if that’s how she feels, then so be it. Let her stay home. But I (and the rest of us) hate to disappoint her 3 little girls, especially the 9 yr. old; and taking the girls without their parents and grandmother is not an option by step-daughter’s decree. I must admit that I’m a bit embarrassed to ask a bunch of strangers for their opinions, but maybe a more removed perspective will give me further options – at least for the little girls. So, Folks, what would YOU do under these circumstances? more

Resolved Question: Where should me and my friends spend our vacations?

Me and my friends want to visit somewhere together this year, we are 15. We were first going to California, since they have beaches, places to shop, to visit, a zoo, disneyland, etc. But we couldn't go there, so we want something similar. Where should we go? im in tampa fl. and i just got married last sept. (19) and we are thinking about going to disneyland paris for our one year. we would like to be in paris a total of 3 days.... not counting flight time (i have no clue how many hours a flight from her to there is, assuming there is at least one stop) and we would like to stay at a disney hotel (not an all star, but not too expensive ether) and have one day at disney. the other 2 days will be spend in paris and the hotel... heres the thing. my friend has a dvc memebership and she saved us a little by booking it for us. so we got all the dvc member discounts and such. and she is willing to do it again. so, for a dvc member. what is the cheapest this will cost me in total. for 2 people with the critirea above. the price should include a rental car. flight for 2. 1 hotel room for 3 nights. and 2 disney passes to disney paris. i would do the research my self my my internet sucks and it would load the pages for disney, orbits, priceline....etc. it barely loads yahoo answers. thanksim not looking for facts or a copy from wikipedia/paris. lol. more

Resolved Question: For vacations is it better to book on your own, through an agent, or through the company itself?

I'm booking a cruise within the next couple of weeks for later on in the year. I have found a couple places on line that can book the same cruise for about $100 - $150 cheaper (most give that savings as on board credit), I have also heard that travel agents usually can give pretty good deals as well. But I was wondering if its good to book through these 3rd party companies or if its easier and better to book through the cruise line itself? Also, I'm looking into getting our next year vacation to DisneyLand started. I have quoted the cost of it through Disney and then quoted the price through me booking everything separately on-line. I have found that as of right now it would be about $500 cheaper to just book everything myself. I'm mostly worried that if I book everything my self or through other companies that everything wont go as smooth, something will get messed up, or something will go wrong. Is this something to really worry about especially with a place like Disneyland where I could save so much more doing it away from them?? more

Resolved Question: Looking for good vacation ideas while in California? Best answer=10 points!?

I'm taking my family on vacation in California again this year. It happens to be our favorite place to visit. We've been to Sea World in San Diego, Universal Studios in Hollywood last year, Disneyland (years ago when the kids were young), and to Six Flags Magic Mountain. My kids are 16yrs old and 13yrs old. We know for sure we're going to Magic Mountain again for the first two days of our trip, since last couple of years ago we didn't get to enjoy all the rides. We then intend on touring Hollywood, both at day and in the evening. We'll spend a day or two at the beach as usual, but that still leaves about a week to burn some time. Any suggestions on fun destinations, or odd and off-the-wall places that are hidden treasures of fun? Or even some fun activities? Please, only serious reply... more

Resolved Question: Where can I find a REAL deal on Disneyland 3-day park hopper passes?

I want to plan a vacation for my wife and I to Disneyland on January 1-3. I've done a lot of research on hotels and Disneyland 3-day hopper passes but am shocked to find that there are no real deals out there. I've done tons of searches online for packages but on virtually every single website I go to their "discount" prices are identical, if not HIGHER than what I can get just booking on the hotel website and disneyland.com. I even contacted themagicforless.com, which is a supposed travel agent specializing in Disney packages and they were $300 MORE than just me spending 15 minutes doing it myself. It's really frustrating. Anyway, we will be driving in from Las Vegas so we are not California residents, aren't in the military, don't belong to AAA, etc. I did look on eBay but all the passes there are really hokey where you have to rent the tickets and jump through a bunch of weird hoops which we don't feel safe with plus it's an extra hassle. We just want to find a place who can actually get us a deal on a 3 day hopper with hotel within walking distance of the park, first choice being the Camelot Inn across the street. Booking it on our own right through the Disney site and hotel site, the rates are $184 per ticket for Disney and $250 (including fees and taxes) for the two nights at the hotel so please respond if you know of a website or travel agent that can really beat that. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Where can I buy Disneyland 2-day Hopper Tickets online at a discount?

I'm planning a surprise vacation for my wife to Disneyland on January 2-3, 2010 and the prices for a 2-day hopper on the Disney website is $151.00 per person. We do not have the luxury of staying for a three day trip so we only are looking for a 2 day hopper. I've found a few websites that sell the tickets for a discount but you must be a California resident. I'm not a member of AAA or any other organizations so that doesn't help either. So where can I get a few discount passes online for our trip other than the Disney site? Thanks!I don't want to use eBay as all the offers I can find on there are really hokey. Most of them involve renting the tickets whereas you obtain them one day and have to return them at night and are often extremely unreliable and a major hassle. I am more looking to find a travel agency who can offer the tickets at a discount without having to be a California resident. more

Resolved Question: I need trip ideas for under $1000 dollars! We live in Oregon and we want to get away for 5 days!?

My husband and I have 5 days to kill and we want to go on an adventure! Any good vacation ideas for $1000? I am also 4 months pregnant, we want to go to Disneyland. Is that not a good idea being that I'm pregnant and won't be able to go on much of the rides? Is there more than just rides to go on for people that can't go on rides??? more
