Open Question: What tune is MOST used in movies to represent London England?

I am trying to find out what the name of the piece of music used in movies to represent London, England? It's Not God Save the Queen. They use it in National Lampoon's European Vacation to show that the Griswold's are in London. It Kinda goes Dum Dum Dum Dum.... Dum Dum Dum. I know I know you are going to say that I am Dumb, but it has been driving me nuts for weeks. more

Open Question: Traveling to Mexico on a 5 months valid passport?

WE are living for our Mexico vacation on March 25th. We will spend there a week. My children's passports are valid for another 5 months. Will I have problem on the airport/border to enter Mexico? I know that some of the European countries require 6 months for the passport to be valid by the entry to their country. Is that the same for Mexico??? I called Mexican ambasy in Chicago multiple times and I'm getting different answers every time I talk to someone. I also search the internet for it an end up empty handed, Please let me know if you had this kind of situation. thanks Richard more

Open Question: Who liked Nat. Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?

It's one of my favorites, very funny. I thought that from the fake squirrel scene on it got a little lame though. Liked the original too, Randy Quaid was great in both even though he's a dummy in real life, leaving that hotel with an unpaid $10,000 tab. There were a lot of references to the original. Didn't like European much. more

Voting Question: European Destinations legitimate?

Just purchased a $5000.00 European vacation with my debit card from European Destinations online. They send me an email with the booking number, itenarary and a "quote" portion that has the price I paid, but says that the balance due of $5000.00(the full price of the trip) and that there were zero dollars in payments made. I just got off of the phone with a sales rep at European Destinations and she said that they don't issue recepts and that my credit card statement and the trip vouchers they are going to send me are my recept (proof of payment). Is that normal or should I be worried? more

Voting Question: english essay please?

Have you ever been to a place that seemed to change your entire life? I am not sure if the Earth. Two weeks vacation at Puerto Rico was the thing I won’t forget for a long time. One of the most important things while planning your vacation is the hotel. Picking the right hotel makes sure that you will have not only a steady roof over your head but also a nice place to keep the parties going. Luckily I happened to be at one of the best hotels in all of town. Since the hotel was about fifty meters away from ocean I was able to take long swims and watch the sun announce a new day. A wide range of water activities and amazing food made by chefs from all over the world was the best way to relax after a tiring day. Another thing that surprised me was how beautiful the town was. I have to admit, it is not as beautiful as Vilnius or other European towns but it has some kind of hidden beauty. The local people are extremely friendly and lively, it seems they are always smiling. The clubs are expensive, but worth it. I found them to be among the best I've ever visited. The rum made by natives is really a strong drink! The last, but not least, thing that I cherished from this holiday is the memories I brought back home with me. It was a perfect vacation: sunny skies and gorgeous tropical seas, new friends and great times -- and I seemed to breeze past security at every nightclub! Every time I open my photo album, my memory takes me right back to beautiful Puerto Rico. All in all holiday Puerto Rico was amazing. I have made lots of new friends and had best time in my life. If I ever have the possibility to visit Puerto Rico again, I won’t miss it! more

Resolved Question: Would this man still be arrested, in spite of everything?

A USA man worked very hard and then earned himself a vacation to Paris, France. The day the man left for his Europe Vacation, he drove to the airport. On the way to the airport, he pulled over at a red light.....he then shot and killed 4 random people.... he then sped off to the airport and departed on his flight to Paris.... he had an AMAZING vacation in France and went up the Eiffel Tower, visited the Louvre, he LOVED his European vacation. He gained like 10 pounds from the delicious food. On his way back from the trip 2 weeks later, he returned to America. The next day he was all happy returning to work...and he got stopped by cops and arrested on charges of the 4 counts of murder that he committed before the Paris trip..... after all that Paris trip and everything, they can't just let it slide? more

Resolved Question: Studying & living in South Korea?

i just read this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am8xEs85jharHlvP34YAU1gAAAAA;_ylv=3?qid=20060722064106AAs6b8I and it kinda got me worrying a bit. although this was posted 4 years ago, i was just wondering if it's still the same? anyways, 2nd, i asked this before but i didn't really get the answer i was looking for. so i decided to ask it again. I'm a girl, 16, Asian. I'm going to study in Seoul National University for college (since I'm already graduating this year). I want to know how I'll be treated in Korea and if I'll be able to get by there. **Although I'm Asian, I don't look even a bit Asian. Everyone mistakes me to be European. Would that be a bad thing? **I know studying in SNU is expensive, even just living in Seoul is expensive (especially since I will be living in Gangnam / Kangnam). What I got before from a previous answer is that monthly expenses would be around USD$2220. Since I'm a student, aside from getting the bills paid by my parents, i will be getting allowance. But it's still very expensive. Would my allowance of USD$200 a day be enough to survive and not be considered poor? (that would be USD$6000 a month from school allowance) **What do i have to do to fit in in Korea? Any tips? (don't worry about the language thing because I'll be taking classes in New Zealand, so i got that part covered) **What are the nice places to visit for shopping, vacation, etc.? **And if you have any other advices/tips on living in Korea, please do share :) more

Resolved Question: I shared a bed with a guy friend for two weeks, and now his gf is mad at me?

I invited a close friend of mine on a vacation to Thailand with me, and we shared the same bed for the entire trip to save on hotel money. We didn't tell my friend's girlfriend about this until we returned and now she is mad at me. I figure she should have trusted me more because I am her boyfriend's second best friend. Her boyfriend used to have feelings for me back in college, but we only remained friends. Then he met her and they have dated for four years now. As far as I know, their relationship has not been very stable lately. But that's their problem, I only just wanted his company because I didn't want to travel alone. Does this girl have a right to be upset? I don't want to deal with her drama because I think she is too insecure and whiny for me. Her boyfriend is also defending me, so she is pretty much on her own right now. I heard last week that they are breaking up. But that's hardly my fault. So her man and I were bedmates and she didn't know about it until later, but isn't it her fault for not trusting her boyfriend? I am European by the way :) and where we are from, people have no problems with single opposite sex friends sharing beds together. more

Resolved Question: European vs American Productivity with GDP?

Americans save less than Europeans do. C. The U.S. builds more prisons. D. Europe has higher unemployment, shorter work weeks, and longer vacations. E. Europeans prefer smaller cars and smaller houses. I'm thinking D but not sure. Thanks for Help ! more

Resolved Question: the USA is mexico for Europeans in socialist nations, they go there on vacation because how cheap everything?

is, with how far their money goes. Voting Question: Windows Vista complete system restore?

My laptop runs Windows Vista and it is currently a $1400 brick. I bought this laptop less than a year ago and I have had so many problems with it that it is absolutely ridiculous. I came home today after using my laptop just fine earlier in the day and after dinner I turned it back on again, and nothing happens. The computer takes forever to boot up on the vista start screen and nothing happens later; I just get a black screen. I have no clue what is causing this to suddenly not work and I'm getting very pissed off about it. I can't get into Windows to do a System Restore and so I'm trying to do a system recovery by pressing F11 and even that isn't working. What can I do to have my computer work again? This is so frustrating and I'm going to lose all the pictures that I took of my European vacation and my entire music collection (I've backed it up but the only thing I can do now is a full wipe, and I don't have access to my backed up files until I'm home for the summer (they are on an older computer). What can I do? more

Resolved Question: So let me get this straight... in the U.S. prostitution is illegal but dating and marriage is legal?

Hello... I'm a French guy , right now I'm enjoying my vacations in the U.S.... by the way, let me congratulate american men, you have a wonderful nation.. Anyways, back to my question.. I'm very surprised for what my american friends are telling me.. according to them, prostitution is illegal in the U.S.???? is that true??? I'm surprised about that because in my country and in most european nations prostitution is legal... my friends are also telling me that in the U.S. when a man dates or marries he is expected to spend a lot of money on flowers, jewelry, dinners, movie tickets, gifts, etc.... furthermore, they are telling me that when a man gets a divorce in the U.S. he losses all his money and properties... I'm very surprised about all this... I don't get it... prostitution is illegal however in order for you to date a woman or to marry her you need to give her a lot of expensive gifts? isn't' that the same as prostitution???/ aren't you exchanging gifts for sex????? I think you should legalize prostitution, in France we have prostitutes but they are decent women so if you have sex with them you don't get any disease.... I feel sorry for all those men in America, they have to spend a fortune on their women whenever they feel like having sex. Hello... Resolved Question: did anyone ever notice??

In the 'Vacation' movies with Chevy Chase & Beverly D'Angelo, did anyone notice how the movies aren't consistent with Rusty & Audrey? In the first 2 movies & the Vegas Vacation, Rusty is the oldest, but Audrey is the oldest in the Christmas Vacation. Then, in the first vacation and the Vegas Vacation, Rusty & Audrey are just about the same size, then in European Vacation, Rusty is way bigger than Audrey? Before you say I paid attention to this too hard, I recently had urge to watch all of the vacation movies and I started to notice that. more

Resolved Question: Am I Crazy for Being Jealous of My Husband's Trip Without Me?

My husband's cousin recently won an all expense paid trip to Switzerland. He's separated from his wife and my husband is one of his closest friends, so he asked my husband to go with him. My husband told him that I wouldn't be happy about this and when my husband told me, I wasn't. This is like a dream vacation for me. I have strong European roots and my husband and I have dreamed of going on a Euro trip for years. My husband has gone on several vacations without me - 3 weeks in Brazil, 2 weeks in Alaska to go fishing, 1 week in Arizona to go to Spring Training, so its not like I never let him do his "guy trips" - in fact he has at least one every year. And trust isn't the issue either - I totally trust him. I know his cousin really well, he's a good guy - I just don't want him to go without me. I have considered buying my own airfare and hotel and going with them, but 1) I don't want to intrude on "their" trip and 2) we have a very limited budget and we could never afford to go in the first place. I am really hurt by this, and my husband knows it, but I just feel like a b*tch. I feel like either way I lose. If he stays he'll be angry at me and feel like he's missing out, but if he goes I'll be upset and will always remember that he went on my dream vacation without me. What do I do? Am I being outrageous? Thanks in advance for your help. more

Resolved Question: What comparative study shows what you get for taxes in different countries? Ie. University, Healthcare, War...?

I just feel that many Americans mock Europe's high socialist taxes but pay much more for the same services in the private sectors. For example, if you did an apples to apples comparison of a European country's "high taxes" compared to gross spent for the same things the European receives for those taxes but in the U.S., it would be a fair and interesting comparison. I mean, looking at the debt Americans are in for health care costs (most bankruptcies are for this) and education is shocking, but then to see that we spend more on war/military than the rest of the world combined while having huge foreclosure, bankruptcy and poverty numbers is embarrassing! A lot of money has to go to profit in these industries that are killing people with their high costs, but then also the money going to war must have some real cost! Priorities seem to be off- I'm sure we could afford much more social services and be much better off without the inflated military budget. I'd like to see what our taxes COULD be getting us. Numbers on Switzerland would be particularly interesting. Then, people may be encouraged to choose where to "put their money" or "invest their money." Oh yeah, those 20-30 paid vacation days mandated in European countries should be in the comparison too. more

Resolved Question: Reviews/views on 47 day Contiki Europe tour. Recommended or not?

I recently got married. My wife and I are in our early 30s. We have never been to Europe and have been contemplating going on a tour. Contiki tours offers a 47 day ultimate European tour. We finally have enough money and vacation days saved to go on a trip like that. We are looking to get some feedback, insights, views & recommendations on this trip. Or if there are other trips that are perhaps better suited. We are not looking to spend a gazillion dollars. Contiki has reasonable prices but we are not sure what to expect on a trip with Contiki. We are looking to travel between June & Aug 2010 for about 6-7 weeks and would like to see as much Europe as possible. Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mark more

Resolved Question: It's 2010, why are some Europeaners still so focused on skin color?

I know what you're thinking, not another "is Europe racist" question on YA. I apologize in advance, but I feel my question is coming from a rather unique viewpoint. I'm a member of the US military currently stationed in Southern Italy far away from any major US military installations which means I've had to integrate somewhat into my surroundings. As a 6'2, dark skinned black American this has not been easy. A few of my friends here are into Western culture and instantly recognized I wasn't African and were really friendly and helpful in showing me around and welcoming me into their social circles despite the language barrier. Others I assume see black skin and either become fearful or enraged for some odd reason. Women grip their purses despite me having thousands of Euros on my person at any given time due to a problem with my bank. Men puff out their chest and attempt to stare me down with no provocation whatsoever on my part. Children point and stare...I've even had vacationing couples in Amalfi come up and ask to take a picture with me like I was a circus attraction! I'm a strong person, mentally and physically but some days you're just not mentally prepared to be stared down by everyone you encounter. I've done some traveling and the only countries I wasn't really payed any attention to were Belgium and Germany which I think might have to do with BE's EU capital status and DE's large US presence. Every elsee else I felt myself coming close to shouting to everyone to stop f*****g staring at me! The only thing that keeps me sane is knowing that I'm somewhat of a diplomat for other Black Americans and that my actions will be what these people base their thoughs around concering all of us. I can't let them down. At the end of the day, this is all lightweight racism compared to what Black Americans experience back home. I guess I just had higher hopes for Europe. With all their history and with such a young and fresh Union, I thought trivial things such as race would be a thing of the past or an American thing. My question, why are so many Europeans still so fixated on skin color? I've always dreamed of one day retiring in some far away country and living out my last days in peace, speaking one of the romance languages and just living life. My time here is showing me that my dream is probably going to only remain a dream. Lastly, the most heartbreaking thing for me is when I go somewhere and I'm ignored or I'm stared at strangely until I say something in English or broken Italian and they realize I'm American. Their response is always "Oh, I thought you were an African". What if I was from Africa? I wouldn't be able to eat here? I understand the immigration woes but this is despicable behavior in my opinion. We're all human, we have to get over this racial divide. Sincerely, YNS more

Resolved Question: What is the best European tour group for a 35 year old female?

I'm planning a 2-3 week European vacation as a graduation gift for myself in middle May/early June. I enjoy the historical aspects of Europe and would feel most safe with an escorted tour. Voting Question: What would be the perfect career choice for me?

I am in high school and I am startin to look into my future, which starts when I'm a junior. There are many things I love to do. 1. Photography. When my family comes home from a vacation (most recent being LA) I have more than 600 pictures I have taken of every possible thing I could to remember the trip by. I love taking cityscape pictures and hanging them on my walls. 2. Travel. I have been all over the world. I've lived in multiple states, and even Japan. I have been to every southern US state, MExico, and Australia. I am thirsty for more. I find myself wandering aimlessly on google earth looking at different cities and locations all around the world. It is my dream to travel it one day. 3. History. I love reading books dealing with major European historical events. I recently finished The Da Vinci code and enjoyed every page. Anything relating to the renaissance I'm all for. I also like learning about the American forties and fifties and ancient China. WHat would be my perfect major in college and career path? I have taken aptitude tests but they don't provide what I'm looking for. Thanks! more

Voting Question: What can I do: I'm a Junior Biology major and dreading going back to college.?

I'm a junior Biology major that attends a small private college. I am an dual-citizen student and have been brought up by European parents that taught me education, hard-work, and determination are key to success. While having some fun first semester freshman year and resulting in lower grades that I knew I were due to more time partying and less time in the library, I have really buckled down and have maintained Dean's List scholar every semester. I have battled through the difficult science courses and thus far have culminated a 3.5 gpa. I would classify academically my college being the perfect academic balance: it's hard enough that I am intellectually challenged but it is also manageable, in that with my hard work, I can achieve A's, A-'s, and B+'s. However, this being said, I have gone through some difficult times in college: -Genetic Disease spurred a 6 month immunodeficiency illness in My Sophomore Year causing me to move into a single and decrease class load -My roommate and closest friend at the college left the day after my 21st birthday in September (for reasons she kept secret to everyone including me) forcing me into another single and has refused to speak with me. This girl had become an adopted member of my family, coming on vacations with me and visiting me during breaks. I wrote her letter, facebook messages, and she has seemed to cut me, along with the majority of our mutual friends, out of her life. My daily schedule at school includes getting up, going to my classes, and heading straight to the library until midnight, going to sleep and getting up again. I don't go out to parties on the weekends, because I am studying for upcoming tests. I would classify myself as a hard-worker, not as incredibly intelligent. I am someone that is capable of A's if I put 100% effort into it, without studying so hard, I would get mediocre grades (as seen in Freshman First Semester). Yet, being alone in the library on Friday and Saturday nights is really starting to wear me down. I used to be able to pump myself up for these study sessions because my roommate would be right there with me. But now that I am alone, I find myself resentful, envious, and angry at those, including most of my friends, that are treating college like a party. My parents don't understand this since their European colleges were very academic based and lacked the social scene of American colleges. I feel as if I have isolated myself from my college, but I don't want to destroy my GPA just for a few meaningless parties. My question is this: I am unhappy at college. I spoke with my parents about it numerous times and they are telling me it is the wrong thing to transfer at this point in time, so close to being done. I know they have valid points and they are also paying for my education, but I am dreading going back to this place. Are my parents right? I am not sure what career path I will choose, but I do know that some type of higher education is in my future (either: MD/DO, JD, MBA). Am I right putting in all this time and effort into a degree? Advice greatly appreciated ! more

Resolved Question: What is a good European beach mini-vacation for March?

A friend and I (both women around 28) will be traveling to Dublin and Rome in March. In between, we want to sneak in a few days at the beach. It doesn't have to be so warm where we need to swim and have the water feel like a bath, but walking around sans overcoat (and maybe even shorts!) would be phenomenal. Any ideas? more

Resolved Question: Where should I go for my high school trip?

My mom has decided that she will pay for me to go on a trip either my junior or senior year of high school because she allowed my sister to do that when she was in high school. I need advice on whether to go to South Africa or a European trip. I feel so blessed to go to either. So, the European trip is a school run trip that I would go on the summer before senior year. One of my best friends and her family plus our American History teacher is going. We spend a little less than two weeks in London, France, and Italy. We will tour cities and countryside and go to many famous places. This is covered in $3,000+ including the hotel rooms and food. My sister went on this trip and enjoyed it, but she seems to be trying to convince me to go to Africa, not Europe. I think the culture will be impressive and I actually may remember something from my AP Euro History course last year. The South Afirca trip is a business trip for my mother to Durban ; so she will be in conferences a lot of the time and I am not allowed to run about South Africa on my own without her. I would go on this trip the summer after senior year. I really want to see the animals of Africa and the culture because I want to have a career involving Anthropology or Zoology; so I think it would be a good experience. I fear that the city may be to touristy and built up though. Also, my mother hinted that her new boyfriend may be coming with us; he is nice, but he is around us way too much and has become annoying. I don't know if my opinion of him will change in a year, but right now the idea of spending my vacation in Africa with him makes me want to jump on the plane to Europe. I really want to pick the right place because I don't think I will be able to experience other cultures than the U.S. for a long time once I have to pay for everything myself, and I want to make the most of this gift. Please tell me which you think would be the best trip and why. :) more

Resolved Question: I need to put about 650 hard copy photos w/ comments in a book that is about 8 1/2 by 11". Where can I get one?

This is from a European Vacation. I don't want to do any fancy scrap-booking. Just want to add some notes so that I can remember it all in the future. I don't want something really big that I can't put on a book shelf. Thick is ok (a necessity I guess). I can split into 2 books since I went to 2 cities. Any ideas where I can find such a contraption? more

Resolved Question: How can I get student loans if my school isn't recognized by the department of education?

I'm currently studying at a major European conservatory of music. The tuition itself is almost nothing, compared to US schools. But the living expenses in this city are very high. I need to find some sort of way to get loan money.. or scholarship money. It is a bit frustrating when there seems to be tons of money for students that want to come and "study" in Europe like it's some vacation. I'm here and I'm actually at one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. I can't believe the US doesn't recognize it but it recognizes some of the beauty schools or something like that in this city. But, I've already checked my student aid center here and there is no way the US government will give me money, and also not from my school abroad. I find it so hard to believe that there is no way for me to get money to help me study here... when there is so much money for these "study abroad" programs that are really just vacations for students. I'm not in a study abroad program, but I'm actually in the school' bachelor program. more

Resolved Question: The good old days, tell me how great this is?

as a former bartender at a very posh beachfront hotel, a Euro trash customer was preaching to one of the waitresses about how awful America was and that she was a "slave to capitalism" (why he came here on vacation is beyond me if he hates it so much) regardless, that day she happened to be on her period and after the chef prepared the man's $75.00 entree she slipped the sea bass into her underwear for a few moments and walked around with it, refilling the Europeans drinks. She then removed it and brought it to his table, where the whole staff bus boys, cooks manager proceeded to watch the man eat the "period" fish. Do you think this type of thing is rare? Do you think that you are immune to karma? We also had something called a "Speedo Steak" that was meant for all the returning customers who were annoying or cheap. One of the male employees was a cocaine addict and cocaine is cut with baby laxatives so he always had the sh*ts, anyways when one of these customers would order we would get the large tongs and swirl the steak or veal whatever around in the diahrea filled toilet bowl. Then we would serve it. This was frequent and always satisfying. Revenge, especially elitists with no manners is a dish best served with drug and blood infested sh*t. :)@ Dani, actually she got a contract with Ford modeling and married a very famous professional athlete. She is generous and charitable and well liked in the community. more

Resolved Question: Why don't Americans without health insurance just marry Canadian or European women?

This is an easy solution to the healthcare crisis. For example, I am married to a Belgian woman. This gives me access to Belgium's socialized healthcare system. It's a good system; I fly there every year for a checkup and dental work and blood tests and all that kind of stuff. I had a shoulder operation that would have cost me a $5,000 copay on my American insurance for only $350 Euros in Belgium, and I went on a wine tour of southern Wallonia/Luxembourg afterwards, so it was also a vacation. Including airfare, all this only cost me $4,700, which means I actually came out $300 AHEAD compared to how the American healthcare system wanted to screw me. But anyway, this seems like an easy solution. If you need healthcare, just marry a European or a Canadian or someone from a country with national health coverage. In most cases, you can start getting benefits within a year of marriage. It's pretty awesome. Why don't more Americans do this, instead of whining so much and pushing for socialism? Just marry Europeans, dummies! more

Resolved Question: Will I be harassed for being an American in Germany?

I always hear and read about Europeans hating Americans or thinking they are stupid or any number of things. I want to go to Germany for a concert in June and I am afraid If I speak English or if someone asks me if I'm American I'll be harassed/insulted or something because I am American. I don't want to be treated like crap just because of where I am from. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a vacation just to be hated. I can understand not liking some of the things the American government has done but the citizens haven't done anything. I don't want to lie and say I am Canadian or something, because I'm not a liar and I have nothing to be ashamed of. Will I be harassed? Of course I am going to learn some German before I go, and I'm not some arrogant, ignorant tourist. I took two years of German in school and I have a German pen pal. more

Resolved Question: Moving from Europe to the U.S. (East Coast). What was your experience like?

I'm considering moving to the U.S. (East Coast) and work as a software engineer there... Any Europeans in this newsgroup who moved from Europe to the U.S. ? Any experiences you would like to share? Is it worth it? What's the work culture like, work environment, benefits, vacation etc.? I understand that it doesn't make any sense to make generalizations when it comes to the U.S. because it is such a big and diverse country. However, I always think it is worth hearing about other people's experiences (bad and good) to get an idea about what it _might_ be like. So - to stress it - I'm not looking for generalizations, but more individual experiences. Americans who've moved the other way (from the U.S. to Europe) are welcome to join the discussion. more

Resolved Question: Would it be considered proper to tar and feather my boss?

I'm self-employed and I have no employees, but my boss has seriously become a prick (excuse my language) here lately, and I've grown tired of his eccentric and dubious nature that has propagated into his routine here lately. OK, last night, while going over some paperwork, I noticed that my boss made a critical and crucial error in his accounting work, and now it's going to cost me dearly (Goodbye European vacation, hello Captain Morgan rum. Hey, at least I can set sail with the Captain, right?) Would it be considered proper to walk up to my boss, tar and feather him, slap him, and then laugh and call him Susan? You know, because I really want to show how much I appreciate him possibly costing me a fortune. That's what pals are for, right?FallenAngel - Darling! Yes, I should go easy on him, but the guy is totally losing his mind! Perhaps he shouldn't have gotten too deep in his work, and perhaps he shouldn't have taken on more work than what he could handle. Oh well, at least I can always play chess in my birthday suit, right ;)? (((FA)) more
