we are currently in SD, and have been to mission beach as well as la jollya (sp?) cove- and have found both to be incredibly congested. are there any locals that could suggest quiet, clean "locals" beaches in the area-- we are currently staying in old town, and driving a little is not an issue for us. we just want something slower paced we can enjoy while visiting the next few days with our small children!! Resolved Question: I rented a Toyota Prius and drove 494 miles on 7 gallons...was that possible?

My friend and I rented a Toyota Prius and drove 494 miles while on vacation. We had to fill the tank before returning the car. The station was only a mile from the rental place so the milage was close and we really filled it to the top as we didn't want them to say we didn't it took 7.2 gallons. When I tell people that they don't believe me. We found when I drove, the chart that showed how many miles a gallon we were getting showed a much greater amount then when my friend drove. So we decided I would do all the driving. We were in San Diego and did lots of up and down Mt Soleadad and around the village of LaJolla and back and forth on the freeway and around the city of San Diego. So it was not just city, freeway or neighborhood driving. Can anyone shed any light on why we got such good mileage? I know we filled it up all the way and checked the miles correctly. No one believes me.Of course I know it is a hybrid.!!!!They are supposed to get 45 miles to the gallon ...I did the math that more like 70 miles to the gallon...Duh!! no need to be snotty!I was just so surprised at the milage and thought maybe others had experienced it ...I didn't think I'd be insulted here. more
