Open Question: Can you take a 7 months old to a summer getaway?

I am planning a summer vacation with my son who is 2 months now and will be around 7 in the summer. I will probably be going to Greece for about two weeks and I will be spending a lot of time on the beach. Of course I am not planning on leaving him out in the sun when the Sun is at its highest. However, I am still wondering how safe it is to take a little baby to a summer vacation. This summer I saw an interview with a pediatrician who said that it is not smart to take children younger than 1 to summer vacations so that kind of stuck in my mind. Resolved Question: missing a girl bad, can't move on?

Here's the situation. During vacation a year and a half ago some friends and I went to Europe. I ended up meeting the most amazing girl I've ever met. She is Greek and lives in Athens. We hit it off right away and it was like a dream. My friends went home, i ended up paying extra to extend my vacation and said goodbye to my friends, and stayed with her for 2 weeks. It was more than just a fling, after I eventually returned home, we stayed close. We would talk EVERYDAY for hours (Greece has free long-distance to America). We would talk go on the webcamera a little each day, etc. etc. She begged me to come to Greece again...so i did. I spent Christmas and New Years with her instead of my family (for the first time). But I felt she was worth it, and we had such a strong connection. She PROMISED me if I returned, she would visit America the following summer. So then fast-foward.. She just started acting different, I think because of the distance. but I was still crazy about her... so it hurt me badly when she started changing. #1 it made me look bad to my family, after talking about how great this girl was, then to tell them she wouldn't be visiting in the summer. 2. she never kept her promise after I flew there and went out of my way. So I did some things like threaten her with words if she was going to treat me differently and start erasing me slowly from her life.... But I never would have done any of these threats, it was ONLY to get us to continue talking, because I loved her that much and didn't want to lose her. but now, it is like I can't over-come the mistakes I made... but there were REASONS, and the things were NEVER intended to hurt her, and I never would have hurt her. I know this sounds stupid, but it is the truth. They were empty threats at all times, because I could never hurt her. but her basically forgetting our good times made me hurt BADLY. Now I can't move on, because I'm haunted with these thoughts that maybe it was a minor problem or a mood she was going through, and that maybe things would have worked out.. but now, because of my mistakes, I am constantly haunted. And we aren't close enough now for her to even bother listening to me try to tell her that my mistakes were bad, but never intended to hurt her... only to keep her in my life. What do I do? It is like I can't move on, because I have these regrets, and also SHE WAS SO PERFECT IN EVERY WAY...and my ideal. And it was mutual. She was as crazy of me as I was of her in the beginning... and now I want that back, and will do anything for it.. I have the money, I can buy a house in Greece, I would learn Greek with all my effort. I will open my business in Athens, etc etc. But what can I do? I would do anything for her, why won't she at least hear me out. Because I am just lost without her, and the regrets are unbearable. I can't move on like this, and I can move forward like this, if she won't listen to me or care about me again. So what can I do??? more

I have one friend thats been so many places. She's been on like 15 cruises to all different tropical places and goes on vacation about every other 2 months or so. This summer she's taking a cruise all throughout italy and greece which is totally awesome. My other friends and I are really excited for her, and I'm happy for her when she gets to go away and do fun things. I always show interest when she's talking about a new trip and I listen to her. But now, she's starting to get super annoying. My friends and I seriously can't have a conversation with her, without her bringing up her upcoming trips and bragging about all the places she's been in the past. That's seriously the only thing she talks about, we can hardly talk to her about anything else. My boyfriend (hopefully soon fiance lol) are planning a trip for June. We live in Canada right now, and have seen most of Canada, and for this vacation we would prefer to leave North America. We've don't want Caribbean (we've been a couple of times already), or Mexico. We've been to 11 countries in Eurrope (Switzerland, France, Italy, etc.) so we don't want to go back there this year. Really, I'm just wondering what would be considered the most romantic places (beach preferred instead of city). We've been looking along the lines of somewhere like Greece, Thailand, even Hawaii (although I realize this is American). Is there anywhere else we should consider? So, a pastor at my church gave probably what I thought was the worst sermon I have ever heard. He decided to tell a joke about a guy that blew off his freshman year at college and his parents were not going to pay for his next year in school. So, he had to work all summer in order to go back in the fall. He also was not able to go on the family vacation to Greece because that was also part of his punishment. One day, a postcard came from his mother, who was on the family vacation. The postcard message read "My son, we are standing at a shrine where ancient greeks sacrificed their deformed children. We wish you were here." The congregation thought that this was hilarious. I didn't think it was very funny at all. We are even coming off of a whole month of pro-life sermons. This joke was clearly bad taste and I don't know what to do about it. As far as I am concerned, I am preparing to leave the church. Should I talk to another pastor about this? Get others opinions? What should I do??You know, those who say that I am crazy for going to church or that I need a backbone need to get a life, seriously. I am not surprised that more people are offended. You are part of the world and it shows. You are as bad as the other idiots in the pews around me.I too believe that God has a great sense of humor. Hello, I would like some advice as far a sunny, beach vacation destination somewhere in Greece. We are looking for a family-friendly area, quiet, but not overly-rural, beach front or beach access with easy access to main roads/train/airport to travel else where. I really do not know much about Greece, and we are planning a family vacation of 2 weeks there. Vacation sites gives me a bunch of cities,aisles but I do not know about any of them. Any advice as far a beach destination, close to attractions and fairly easy access to transportation.? Any hotels/resorts that are well known. I was in Greece on vacation in 2008 and while I was there, one of my friends celebrated her birthday. We had dinner at a mom and pop taberna (I think we were in Tolo that night, but if not there it was in Patras) and the owners realized it was Christine's birthday so they brought out a special little dessert tray for us. Everything the taberna served was homemade and absolutely delicious. There was some baklava on the tray as well as four tiny little ramekins with a pudding or custard of some sort in there. We never were able to figure out exactly what the pudding was, but it was absolutely delicious. Christine's birthday is coming up soon and I'd like to make something close to this for her but I haven't been able to find a recipe online. The pudding/custard that I'm looking for a recipe for is very thick and very smooth. I almost thought that it was a rice pudding when I first saw it but it was very smooth and thick and there were no rice grains in it. The pudding wasn't like flan either, as it wasn't a "gelled" consistency. The closest thing I can describe it texture-wise is between smooth peanut butter and creme brulee. The pudding had a mildly sweet flavor. I tasted vanilla and maybe a little bit of honey in the pudding. It was sweet but not overly sweet (definitely less sweet than the baklava was) but it had a very good balance of flavors. I don't recall if it had any nutmeg or cinnamon on top. The pudding was served to us very cold, but not frozen. I know it is kind of a vague description, but have you heard of or eaten this type of pudding before? Can you recommend a recipe please? I don't want one with whole rice grains in it, if this was indeed a type of rice pudding. Christine thought that it might have been a semolina pudding, but she wasn't quite sure and I have never knowingly had semolina pudding before. Can you help me find a recipe for this? more

This is what I have so far of my first chapter. I'm not used to first person, though, so I'd like opinions on how my voice is and what I can do to refine it. ( /word/ is italics, since they don't show up on Y!A) When I was thirteen, my dad took me to a dinner for the families of his colleagues. He wore a tuxedo—not too different from his usual suits, except for the red bow tie and fabric wrapped around his waist. I remember my mom ruffling his hair and claiming he looked like a penguin. She was in a sparkly, spaghetti-strapped black dress and sleek heels, her hair in strategic curls and her makeup soft and conservative. I’d worn a dress myself, black like my mom’s with a white sweater around my shoulders and tiny heels, a strand of pearls around my neck and fake diamonds in my ears. Everyone at the dinner looked the same: men in tuxedos, women in fancy dresses clinging to their husbands’ arms as they moved around the room in an intricate dance. My dad insisted on greeting every single person—then introducing my mom, /this is my wife, Leigh,/ and me, /and our lovely daughter, Devon./ And I’d look into their eyes, confident, just as my mom taught me. I’d shake their hands the way she taught me, too, a firm grasp and a solid shake. And they’d laugh, /quite a grip, this one. She must take after you, Bob./ He’d laugh, too. I learned three things that night. One, you’re always on display. Always. Every single motion, every word, you’re always being analyzed. No matter what. Two, my dad never told his peers who my mom was. Every time he introduced us, she was always Leigh. After the tenth person, I finally realized they thought she was a stay-at-home mom. I always wondered what Dr. Leigh Evanston-Cooke, Ph.D., Ph.D. thought of that, but I never asked. Three, everything is politics. I never forgot that night. It stands out in every social encounter I’ve had since—and luckily. I went from slightly nerdy social outcast in middle school to running in some of the tightest circles in high school. Which was how I found myself at Majority Leader Alexis’s end-of-summer pool party, chatting lightly, while Majority Whip Rebecca glared at us over the Minority Leader’s shoulder. It was a perfect reflection of the Senate, if the lawmakers were teenage girls in bikinis and designer sunglasses. The mental image made me smile. “What is it?” Alexis asked, stopping in the middle of a story about her family’s trip to Greece the month before. “Oh, sorry,” I said, smiling as sincerely as I could. She knew it was false. “I was just caught up in your description of the islands. I’ve always wanted to see Greece, but never had the time. You know how it is.” She nodded, although I was sure she had no idea. Coordinating the General Assembly’s recesses with two different school schedules wasn’t easy. “Maybe next summer.” “You know, my cousin has a house there,” she responded. “We’ll probably go next summer, too. I'm on winter break from college and I have about $500 savings for travel. I know hotwire and other sites have package deals for much less than that (i got a hotel and flight deal to montreal for 4 days in a 4 star hotel for about $450 this summer) but the question now is where would be an INTERESTING and WARM location to go for the end of january for about 3 girls? I graduated from Uni 2 years ago and have been working for a company since that time now. Most of us only get 10 vacation days a year. I'm sorry but thats just pathetic. Its the worst in the developed world, even the US gets more vacation days than us. Out of a survey I looked at, only the Phillipenes, and Thailand gets less vacation days than Canada. Who ever made up that law should be executed. Bring back the death penalty just to execute that miserly mofo. I work between 9-10 hours a day, 5 days a week and have almost no vacation time to look foward to. I'm planning my first trip to Europe sometime next year with my husband. We can probably spend only about a week there, but I have lots I would like to do, so I need some help to narrow it down. Since it's my first trip, we'll probably want to do a lot of the typical tourist sight-seeing like Big Ben, Eiffel Tower, etc. Here's my list of places I'm most interested in going: Italy--this is a MUST, but I can't decide if I should do one city and then go to another country or just stay within Italy Great Britain France Spain/Portugal I would love to do Greece, but I think that would be a trip we could take later because there'd be so much to do Germany and Austria are also possibilities but not likely. I have found a couple websites (virgin-vacations.com and europeandestinations.com) that offer some pretty cheap packages, but if you've found another website or agency that has good packages, let me know! Since I've never been anywhere close to Europe I really don't know what's amazing to see. What's the best time of the year to go there? Where should I stay (neighborhood or specific hotel)? What should I visit? Where has the best food (besides Italy)? Are there areas I should avoid? Any cool tours or sightseeing I should do? Any suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks! more

There is a movie coming out sometime soon, and I can't remember the name to save my life. The story goes something like this: This girl is looking for love, so she goes on vacation to Greece. She losses a coin in a well that is supposedly supposed to help you find your true love. Instead of doing the coin toss, she goes in the fountain and picks out maybe five or six coins that others had already thrown in there. Voting Question: I have approximately 20 friends that are either new parents or newly pregnant....I feel weird about this, help?

I'm 26 and have been married for 5 years. My husband is 30. We both have good jobs and I especially put a lot of extra time/effort into my career and I am currently pursuing my masters, however because the economy sucks, we don't exactly have tons of money. Anyway, I am very happy with life as it is and I know the few things I would like to change will in the near future (I will be receiving a large pay increase upon completion of my masters) so we can afford more vacations to places like Hawaii and/or Greece, Italy, etc. I've never had a desire to have children and my husband feels the same way also. I enjoy partying, my job, freedom, vacations, sports cars, etc way too much to give those things up right now. Anyway my dilemma is that a majority of my friends are pregnant or new moms. I feel so weird about it. I can't even explain it. I truly am happy for them, I know that a baby can bring lots of joy and love into the world, but I personally just don't want one. With all this baby stuff going around I am literally asked on a daily basis 5-10x when I will be having a little one. How do I respond to that? I hate to be too brutally honest but I honestly don't envy any of my friends with their stretch marks, sleepness nights and drained bank accounts. I am very happy with my life and marriage as is. So why am I receiving all this pressure to have a baby and what is the best way to deal with it? I really am having a hard time accepting that a lot of my friends are changing....I know that many of my friendships will either be non-existant or very different due to all these babies. more

Im planning a trip for my grandma my 18 y/o cousin, and 16 y/o sister to go to greece in the summer. were flying into athens, staying for 3 nights, then taking the ferry to Kefalonia. is there any way to get to santorini from Kefalonia without taking another ferry? by air possibly? i know theres an airport on santornini. also, im debating between going to kefalonia, or rhodes, both sound great. either way, id have to end up on santornini, so we can fly back to athens then home to San Francisco... thanks for all your opinions! :] more
