Resolved Question: Dont u think she lacks a sense of humor? Here's the story (it's short)?

Okay so my family was hanging out at the Grand Canyon on a trip. My brother (who was 5 back then) was acting crazy and running all over the place which was dangerous...so my dad held his hand and kept him in control. The tour guide was done talkin and he said "Any questions?" My dad said "Yes, how do i keep him under control he's doesnt want me to hold him?" (pointing out my brother)Everyone including the tour guide laughed. My moms angry and says "your fathers so stupid...he should know that when the tour guide says that he means questions about the grand canyon, not frivilous things." She was pissed and she though my dad was stupid (pretty much). I thought the question was funny...but still. All are wonderful answers. and wow i wasnt expecting much popularity on this question. more

Resolved Question: I'd love for someone to read these two poems and tell me what they think?

They say the rain is a constant and honest man indeed A fellow that falls for the sake of Mother Gaea’s seed He often speaks with his foggy brothers up in the unknown As if to accompany the bolts that lay upon thunders proud moan And when their choir session curtails So does the flow of nectar into farmer’s water pales The sweat from his trickling brow leaves misty panes And his power blocks the edges of bustling highway lanes A vengeful creature like him will fight with Selene and her children’s tides But he’ll always respect her for he knows her eyes are his magic light guides When day breaks, so do the paper clouds that hold him in As he struggles his way through, trying to reach your virgin skin Poets write of his work and love songs use him for his metaphors But they never see his excellence behind all of their closed doors Rain he doesn’t mind though, he’s got no time for pettiness Instead he’ll cleanse and lift the curse of a hobo drifter’s sweatiness The mud opens itself up, ready to expand As rain makes sure his feelers reach the Rio Grande Cyclones and spouts use their charm’s to awaken his urge To let his thin, veil mask and submerge To water and bloom every cypress spurge And to allow new life to consequently produce and emerge We’ve both got this unbearable matter in our ear It burns and it bleeds like some freshly cooked deer I can look at it in the mirror and try to peel off the crust, But it’s just like buying a 12 year old bike, hoping to wash off the rust. We’ve both got this itchy strand in our eyes It sits there, unhidden, like some poorly crafted disguise I can look at it in the mirror and try to pull out the hair, But it’s just like going to the doctors, hoping to sit still in the operating chair. We’ve both got this cracked alley in our feet It lies in our heels like the Grand Canyon or Desert Street I can look at it in the mirror and try to sew it shut, But it’s just like picking up a shell, hoping it’ll go back in the nut. We’ve both got this eager kind of feeling in our knees It jumps and it skips like some chilly winter breeze I can look at it in the mirror and try to stop its shaking, But it’s just like leaving someone, hoping to stop there heart from aching. We’ve both got this thoughtless, fat tongue It wails and whines like a newborn baby, too curious and young I can look at it in the mirror and try to stop it from spouting, But it’s just like taking a child’s lollipop, hoping it’ll stop its pouting. We’ve both got this raw hue to our arms It flexes and cracks like the paint on old weathered farms I can look at it in the mirror and try to wipe off the red, But it’s just like sewing a sweater, hoping to get by without any thread. We’ve both got these things inside our body and out, That we’d sure as hell like to live without, I can look at us in a mirror and try to erase all the flaws, top to bottom, But I’m afraid if I do, we won’t fit in with everyone else who’s got em’. more

Resolved Question: A poem for July 4th. Comments welcome. It is long, can you handle it?

“Wither is fled the visionary gleam? Where is it now, the vision and the dream?” Wordsworth As we travel, comes a path we select for our tomorrow where roads paved with immanent dreams bring joy or sorrow they hold possibilities to seize when moment’s right and attain our emblematic visions glowing in daylight But when the road turns, and vague future footing fails compassion from staunch leader’s we turn for new courses to prevail they will take sought visions on newly founded golden wings and carry us through wonders as small towns and big cities sing The praises of our icons who guided our land at bay like Washington’s triumphant victories as he surged and led the way of foundations to unite and shape a country from its dawn we cannot let our visions of his successes be forgone And Jefferson’s pursuit to give us life and liberty through constitutional laws granting Americans to be free from this, Lincoln’s pact with fairness our country does embrace and having gone through war and peace, we still hold him in grace Then Roosevelt’s acts of conservation all citizens do admire after he constructed recovery during trying times did aspire we’ve learned to appreciate the complex intervals of our day and think through measures of moments, in eras passed away Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair as Jupiter, the planet red whirls quickly and aware of dangers in the atmosphere gathered to demise he guards his moons and four blue rings ready to arise While our nation holds together from redwood coast to live oak shores in truths we share magnificence our forefather’s explored from New York’s Empire State, and the Statue of Liberty Grand Canyon, Mississippi, blues and country music history Our songs will be heard beyond salt and coal mines of Midwest racing white buffalo who run through deserts to a red sunset across the granite cliffs of Yosemite, to the Golden Gate Bridge and dawns luminous horizon loverlooking a sky blue ridge Let us not hold a memorial for the way life used to be let us climb a ladder to the collective galaxy where a new beginning waits us between Jupiter and Mars and America will once again be leader in the stars We can speak of holding our country in our hearts today but more than words are needed, present courage everyday.oops. thanks Giggs that's overlooking more

Resolved Question: United States Holiday?

I am 17, my dad is a middle aged man and this September we are flying from South Australia (where we live) to Los Angeles for a holiday. We will be spending 9 days in the US (which we are aware is not quite enough). I have never been overseas before, so I want to see as much as I can in the US. Money is no major issue to us, but we are not 100% sure on what to do and see in the US. We like cities, and want to see major US landmarks. We want to travel a bit, although we are not sure whether we should fly, drive or just catch buses to places (or maybe a mixture). We would like to see the grand canyon, go to universal studios (worth seeing?) and see one sports game (not sure what sport, maybe you could help, we don't have to be into the sport, just get a feel for the atmosphere), but we are not sure on what else to do or places to stay, whether it be fly all the way to NYC (although we only have 9 days) or just hang around the west-coast (what are the best places to see there? Las Vegas and see some shows? San Francisco? San Diego? Stay in Los Angeles? Landmarks? etc, etc). What are the things you would recommend doing at these places and how should we travel from place to place? It would really help if you could just guide us a bit on how to make the best of our 9 days in the US, thanks! p.s. Though we would like to travel, where ever we go, we do want to see it a bit, so we don't want to just make many little stop overs at many different places. more

Resolved Question: Looking for ACTUAL 2007 temperatures for Grand Canyon, AZ?

I want to know the actual daily temperatures for Grand Canyon, AZ in 2007. More specifically, given the time of year now, last years daily temps for August thru November 2007. Last time I visited the Canyon was in June 2004. It was hot as hell and I got sunburned. I was only there for 1 day. The heat took a toll on my mom, too. So I want to plan a trip at a more reasonable time of year. Plus, I'm bringing a friend for fun. Also, any info you may have on hotels/motels offering military fares would be greatly appreciated. Or anybody offering any military fares/discounts. My friend and I are also contemplating on a horseback adventure for a day or so into the lower canyon. No guide. Just she and I. Help?? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Do you love America?

"We named her America" (Version #1) Her head supports the Rushmore Her shoulders support its weight Her love fills Grand Canyons That will never erode away The Redwood trees, her hair The Pacific Ocean, her soul Colorado snow is the feel of her skin But Texas is the warmth of her glow Her heart built Louisiana Her hands built DC She cries rain in Seattle But giggles in the spring Her temper flares Arizona Her winters take their toll Her feelings change the weather But people sooth her soul No one understands her Few care for her pain Some will take her picture Staring breathlessly at her face Can anyone keep up with her She changes with the tide Great Lakes with no mistakes She guides our Northern Lights (I stand behind poetic license for references to terms not geographically located in the U.S. that are found in this poem)(The Danube is in Europe, but I couldn't resist inserting it in this poem)I'm disappointed in you guys. I guess it's too late for people to be optimistic in this land. This is the poetry section, not a political debate....I should have asked "do you love my poem?" We can't give the country back to the native Americans at this point anyways, if we did, it would make no difference - why can't we all be thankful for what we have? That is the point of the poem. I'm sorry, I should have asked, "Do you like my poem?" more

Resolved Question: Grand Canyon Question?

I just returned from a family visit to Arizona, and bought the book titled "Grand Canyon, a different View" the book is filled with awe inspiring photos, but truly questionable logic. First, the author claims that "Evolutionists" claim the Canyon was carved slowly by the Colorado River. Does Evolution ever mention Geology? Secondly, he states that the only difference between "Flood Science" and Evolution regarding the Canyon, is the amount of water and the amount of time. Is that all that is disputed? Since the author was previously a tour guide at the Canyon, is he a fraud, knowingly duping the public? Or can he really be that stupid? The book is found here at the publisher http://www.nlpg.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=2_39&products_id=114 more
