Los Angeles Vacation Questions asked

Open Question: I am interested in working as a mature model-how can I pursue it effectively here in Los Angeles?

A former New Yorker and Floridian, I recently relocated to downtown Los Angeles and am constantly told by men and women of all ages that I look like I'm in my late thirties or around 40 at most, while NOT wearing make-up ('m an AARP member and always have to show my driver license to prove my age!). At 5ft. 8", with shoulder length hair that's barely streaked with gray in the back, I'm still the same size 4 to 6 from my teens, college and twenties part-time modeling "for fun" days. I presently see many attractive mature models in magazines that cater to mature adults, admittedly more for products rather than editorial. Many fashion shows featuring (very gorgeous) senior, and dare I say it-gray-haired models (gasp!), are in upscale, retirement areas like Sarasota where I used to live or I imagine, in the one here in Southern CA (Laguna Woods). I'm open to (and am experienced in) department store print, hair product print, runway, trade show, and tea room, garment district showroom, cruise ship and department store fashion modeling. I would like to also do catalog and travel brochure work that caters to the mature woman for publications such as such as Appleseed's or the Tog Shop, Silversea, Seabourn, or Cunard Line luxury cruise brochures, or for magazines like More or Senior Life or even the AARP magazine. The mature market is vibrant and fashionable! Baby boomer women have plenty of disposable income. We are very interested in companies, designers, stores, cultural venues, cruise lines, resorts, magazines, etc. that are interested in the upscale, fashionable mature market. We will respond favorably to ads featuring age appropriate models such as for beauty firms anti-aging creams and hair coloring products, or cruse line and resort vacations or designer cruise and evening wear. Our market is definitely not just about insurance, medical alert and denture products. It would be very helpful to know the following: -Which agencies or agents do these companies work with to secure their models from? -How do I best approach them? -Do any of the agencies/agents hold open calls? -Do seperate agencies exist for Los Angeles Fashion District modeling (Fashion week and showroom) and trade show modeling? -Does a book, trade paper, newsletter or service organization exist with information on opportunities for mature models and feeback from mature models consistently working? -Do any agencies/casting agents accept unsolicited mailings? -Are e-mailed photos preferred over hard copy mailings? -Do I need to have my own website, blog and/or social media page(s)? -Do I need to join the Screen Extras Guild and AFTRA in oder to be eligible for jobs in videos, commercials, training films or other films? I have an 8 1/2" x 11 color head shot and am considering taking more photos in a variety of "looks". Thank you. for any suggestions you can offer . My e-mail address is vnews52@yahoo.com. Viva more

Resolved Question: Why are black women from the caribbean and Brasil area nicer then american black women?

First all I'm white from england and traveled all over the world!! I was wondering why are american black women more rude then carribean/brasilian woman? I mean american women dont seem as friendly or talkative and they pull up walls or dont smile as much when i tried to meet a couple! I love black women but the ones in america are not as friendly.. In Brasil, they will talk to you, even thought i dont speak portuguese but they will smile and say hi and ask you how is your vacation etc.. Do american guys find it hard to deal with american blacks? This is when i was visiting NY, Atlanta and Los Angeles area. Cheers! more

Resolved Question: Have you taken Amtrak's "Coast Starlight" Train?

We are going on a family vacation and are starting out in Los Angeles and heading to Seattle. Just a few details first. Details: -One way Northbound (LA to Seattle) -going in June (I think toward late June) Now to the questions: 1. What did you think of the ride? 2. How was the service and were you comfortable on the train? 3. How was the scenery along the ride? 4. Was it worth the time and money? I appreciate your help and look forward to hearing your answers. Resolved Question: How much does a vacation to New York cost from San Diego?

My girlfriend and I are interested in visiting New York in the future since we have never left the west coast. Now of course we would like to do some sight seeing, but we are not really into being "tourists". . . I would much rather spend a few days just enjoying the city, eating out, visiting popular night life spots, etc. We are far from rich but I am interested in putting some money away for this. How long would be an appropriate time to visit the city? Obviously two weeks or something would be ideal but I need to keep this realistic, also how expensive are hotels in comparison to say Los Angeles or San Diego standards. What would be a good area to stay in. I would love to stay in Manhattan or something but am assuming hotels are like $500 a night which would simply not work. Any information you can provide someone from CA who knows nothing about NY would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. . . more

Resolved Question: Does New York City have a rating system for restaurants like they do in Los Angeles?

I plan on taking a vacation to New York and I was curious if the restaurants, especially the nicer ones, have this rating system that helps in deciding how clean it is, etc... If they don't, do you think it's a good idea? I must admit, ONE thing that's working in California is this system. A = great, B = good, but not perfect, and you hardly see C because that means the inspectors have already written up a warning notice and the restaurant has to close and fix all problems which might include: hot water not working, rodents, food not warm or cold enough, equipment not clean...things like that. more

Resolved Question: Help! Possibility of port-of-entry denial when going out of the US and coming back after a month?

Hi there This is my case: I got a 10-yr multiple entry Visitor visa (b1/b2-R) and am currently in the US. I arrived in Vegas in December and stayed at my aunt's. When my family and I applied for a visa, I gave the embassy a letter from her stating she was going to support my stay in the US so basically, she's the embassy's contact person. The rest of my family has already come back to my country and I didn't leave yet for a longer vacation. I've no plans of working or doing anything against the law here. Fortunately, my relatives here are wealthy enough to spend for my vacation, they're okay with me coming back anytime I want. I'm allowed to stay until around June but I'm planning to stay only until May, this time with my uncle in Los Angeles until I leave. I know I can come back to the US anytime after that. But I got worried when I heard of people, even on multiple-entry tourist visas, who has experienced deportation. Can I come back let's say only after a month? What suspicions will arise? How do I disprove the port of entry officer's assumption that I'm not coming back? Does declaring that Vegas thingy when I first applied for a visa have a say on my future US trips? Any advice, suggestions and recommendations? thanks a lot more

Voting Question: How would I be able to legally re-enter the U.S. after being deported?

( Sorry, It's a bit long, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible.I was convicted of 3 counts of 1st degree residential burglary when I was 18 years old. The charges were split between two different counties; Two Los Angeles County and 1 in Ventura County, CA. The crimes were committed during a streak of incredibly stupid and reckless aberrant behavior, which I now see as completely despicable and vile. Needless to say, I was a gullible, impressionable idiot who bought into the dumbest concept conceivable; gangs. The crimes were non violent, and occurred during work hours. Upon arrest, I confessed and aided LAPD in returning the stolen property to their rightful owners. I fought my court case for about 1.2 years before agreeing to a 90 day observation at CIM chino state prison. Upon the conclusion of my observation, I was found to be unfit to serve the remainder of my sentence in Prison. The judge gave me the benefit of the doubt, and stayed a 4 year prison term and gave me 2 strikes. As for the Ventura case, I was sentenced to 240 days in county jail. I served 2 of those months in work furlough, As I was attending college and working. The remainder of my time in county jail because I.C.E placed a hold on me, and work furlough didn’t want to be accountable should I try to escape custody. I served a total of 11 months prison and jail time. I was then transferred to Mira Loma Det. Facility in Lancaster, CA. I hired an immigration lawyer who told me if I wished to stay in the U.S I would be fighting my case for 3 + years while being denied bail. I signed for voluntary departure and was deported to Australia, my Country of birth. I am 22 years old now, and am almost finished with my business bachelors. I now truly understand why people strive so hard to gain entry into the U.S. Nowhere else in the world even comes close. Had I a second chance, I would choose to live a lawful life and embrace everything the country has to offer. I would sorely like to return to the U.S. it’s more of a home for me now than Australia ever was. How would I go about returning, even if only for a vacation? My mother is a naturalized American citizen as with my grandmother. I lived in the U.S on a greencard for 8 years prior to the deportation. Thanks in advanceWhen I signed for a voluntary departure, the Immigration judge didn't specify the length of the ban. My lawyer also refuses to disclose information unless I pay him another retainer. more

Voting Question: First time visitor...things that must be visited/ seen?

Okay New York...so it's my first time out to the east coast (i'm from los angeles). I'm only in town for 1 week in the middle of February. I know the weather won't be the best...but I need to take a vacation so I decided what the heck...why not visit my uncle (lives in Brentwood, Long Island- wherever the heck that is). If i'm there for only one week...what are the sites that i MUST see? If the weather is bad...what recommendations do you have for indoor attraction. Remember people...not the movie theater (i can do that here in LA). All suggestions are appreciated!!! more

Resolved Question: Where to leave my dog?

Okay, so about March or April, my family and I are going to vacation to New York for 4 days or so. The only problem is where to leave Eva? She's a one year old Rottweiler. Please, we were planning of taking her with us, but plane tickets for 4 people plus a dog? And the cost of a dog friendly hotel in New York. So, we were wondering what to do, we certainly don't want to leave her alone. Plus, I don't really trust some people in my church to take care of her because I saw a kid (about 16 years) poke a Golden Doodle with a branch in the dog's face. My family and I live around Los Angeles County in California. Any good suggestions would be fine, thanks. If I like some suggestions, I will discuss them with my parents because I'm only 14.We're going to New York for 4 days because of a wedding and vacation. more

Voting Question: Are there a marriage separation getaway?

My hubby and I are getting so tired of our fighting and threatening of divorce if you don't do it my way, and the verbal abuse. He doesn't realize that I am the best thing that has happened. His family, friends and best friends say it. They also come up to me and ask me why i tolerate his verbal abuse? I tell them I love him. But now I'm thinking why do i tolerate it. I do love him and i want our marriage to work. So i ws thinking about a weekEND separation vacation. DON'T WORRY I AM ALSO GOING TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT THIS WEEKEND SEPARATION TO THINK IS NOT TO GET HANKY PANKY FROM ANOTHER. I have to say that for people in movies books and real life say but you said we were separated on a break...that's where i say yes we are but we married not boyfriend girlfriend.) So where would I search to get away to think things through about what to do. and no he will not do marriage counseling. he only listens to HIS family (not mine) and friends. This way we can write down what we need to talk about w/o being disrupted. So anyone have any ideas where to go for a weekend in the Southern part of the USA and not the Los Angeles area.? Please and thank you. more

Voting Question: Couldn't see (everything was white light), hot & sweaty, very dizzy & faint, disoriented, sugar helped?

okay so something weird happened today (btw, i'm a 15-yr-old girl, no weird health problems, no medications, no drugs or anything) so i was walking outside (i'm on vacation in los angeles) and all of a sudden i was really hot and tired and wanted something to drink, even though i'd drank 2 whole bottles of water about an hour ago and it couldn't have been more than 75 or 80 degrees. it progressed really fast. all of a sudden my eyes couldn't focus, it was like dots of white light were filling my vision and i could barely see. i could see things that were up close as washed-out shapes, like sillhouettes, and farther than about 10 feet i couldn't see anything. i got REALLY dizzy and disoriented, i walked into a lot of people and all i could think about was getting out of the sun. i kind of stumbled into the nearest cafe but i felt SO out of it all i wanted was to curl up on the floor and go to sleep. i thought it would get better once i got out of the sun but it didn't, it was TERRIBLE...not to be overdramatic but i literally wanted to die. i just felt terrible and heavy and fuzzy and hot and i was sweating a lot and i just leaned against the counter for a while and i couldn't see anything. i don't really remember how long i was there, ten minutes maybe? i think i sat or lay on the floor at one point, there was almost no one else there. i think one guy asked me if i was okay but everything felt really far away and unimportant. finally my sister came in and sat me down and got me some ice water, she had no idea what was going on either. i drank two or three cups of ice water but it only helped a little bit. finally she got me some orange juice. i don't know how else to explain it but it was the best thing in the world. i just remember that it tasted so good and sweet and i drank like four glasses of it. after that and sitting with my head down for a while, i started to feel better. my vision cleared up a bit and i could think again but i still felt pretty crappy. i went from burning hot to freezing cold, even though it was really warm, and i felt nauseous. when i stood up or even sat up straight i felt really dizzy again so i stayed sitting for about half an hour. i was still really woozy and sensations felt weird...the orange juice tasted weird and when i touched things they felt wrong. according to my sister i was talking nonsense, apparently i said a bunch of crap about nail polish and was obsessing over paying for the orange juice, i don't really remember it, it's all kind of a blur. anyway, she called my mom and maybe 45 minutes after the whole thing started she got there. i lay down in the back of the car. when we got home i was feeling better but i was still really dizzy, i couldn't walk in a straight line and it took me about 5 minutes to get up the stairs. anyway, i got upstairs and lay down and went to sleep; i had about a billion blankets because i was freezing cold. i woke up a couple hours later and ate dinner. now (about six hours after the whole thing) i feel a lot better except still kind of weak and shaky, and i have a pounding headache and i think i might have a fever. but relative to before i feel awesome haha anyway, i have NO idea what happened, and if anyone knows please tell me! it wasn't hunger because i'd eaten a big lunch about an hour before it happened. but the thing that really stands out to me was the orange juice, that really did the trick...maybe i needed sugar? i don't know. this has only happened to me once before, it was at least 4 years ago and not NEARLY as bad. i was standing outside and all of a sudden things got bright white and i was really hot and i just started whining and saying i needed to get inside, but the SECOND i got inside it got better. what happened??!?!?!?! please tell me! thanks! more

Resolved Question: Why does this other girl seem so lucky?

There is this girl I know who lives such a nice life. She gets whatever she wants whenever she wants it. Everytime our school has a break, she always goes to exotic places like Los Angeles or New York or Seattle or even Egypt! And guess what she got for her birthday last year? A trip to Florida! She even says that she HAS to ride on the first class airplane or else her dad will get mad at her. Yeah, I thought that was kind of odd. She's in only child so she's kind of spoiled. For example, if she wants an iPod Touch, she'll get it the very next day. If she want's to have three sleepovers in a row during school nights, it will happen. And no, she isn't lying because my friends and I have seen it with our own two eyes so don't say she has been lying all this time. So she basically gets to escape this cold, gloomy whether and enjoy her time in sunny Florida, whoop-dee-doo. My life is so dull and I just hate it when my English teacher asks us to write an essay about our vacation, and I have to lie and say we went to Hawaii and learned how to hula dance. I spend my time surfing the net which gets boring and sitting there doing nothing. I mean literally, I have NOTHING to do. Please help me, I cry almost every day. It is not fair, you know? Why does one person get what they want while the other one suffers? I feel like I'm worthless in this world with no purpose to breathe. Dying would be so much more easier, but come on, I'm not stupid enough to do that. What do I do? Please answer, I will be sitting on the couch staring blanky at the walls if you need me. And also, even though her family is made up of her, her mom, and her dad, their family is going to build an enourmous house with like eight bedrooms and stuff when they don't even need it! I was surprised to find out that her dad is the only one who works, and the mom is a housewife! I thought thtat if they were rich enough to do all this, wouldn't the mom be working to? And guess what else? She is only 13 but her parents already bought her a car! She doesn't drive it in public duhh, but sometimes her dad lets her drive around the neighborhood when its quiet and empty. She has a freaking car and shes 13!!! ITS NOT FAIR! And I am not trying to be ungrateful but I want more excitment in my life! Whyme?!?! What did I do to get this punishment?? What do I do? And its not just her, so many other people I know have great lives. If you could take the time to write something long and useful so that I can kill time or provide a website about what I can do, you don't know how much I appreciate it. God bless to those who help! more

Resolved Question: Is Los Angeles as beautiful and surreal as it seems in movies and pictures?

I came to the U.S about 12 years ago and I have always been fascinated by L.A seeing it In movies and pictures, it looks amazing, a big city with palm trees and snow capped mountains in the background, the landscaping seems so unreal and beautiful, it looks like a city in paradise, with nice homes nestled within palm trees and hills, I don't know it looks like an incredible place. And then it seems so cool as well you have sunshine all the time, alot of beaches, then you have the stereotypical California girls, surfers, rich girls, Richie Rich type characters living within miles of gangsters and eseis. Then not to mention Hollywood and all the famous people. Is it an amazing place, do you feel blessed and lucky to be there, like on vacation all the time, do you get a sense that you are in a special place like in the best city on the planet, do you get a natural high living there? Should I move there once I graduate? If you don't live there do you do you feel the same way? more

Resolved Question: What should I do on my California vacation in February?

I'm going to California for my 23rd birthday with my best friend. We are going February 4th-9th. As it looks now we are spending the 4th and 5th in Los Angeles. Currently the only things I'd really like to check out is Venice Beach and Whisky a go go (I'm a huge rock music fan!) The 6th and 7th we are going to spend in San Diego.(The 6th we are going to see Emmure.) Then the 8th and 9th we were going to return to Los Angeles. I've never even been off the East Coast so I have NO clue how to spend my vacation!! Any and all tips and ideas are appreciated! (Where to stay, what to do, where to eat, where to not go!) I'd also really like to find a fun restaurant/bar to go to for my birthday the first night we are there. (I'm not really a club kind of girl I'd prefer a bar, especially one with live music!) more

Voting Question: Where can you go by train from Los Angeles for short vacation?

My family just looking to go out for 2-3 days during Christmas Break, it should not be over expensive or far from LA. None of us have been on a real train and would like to take a train somewhere. We don't really know where to find train destinations and suitable cities for vacations though, and it would also be appreciated if someone can tell us the attractions around said destination. If the train thing is too complicated, can you just tell us where would be an ideal place for a short vacation from LA, whether by car or train or plane or whatever. Voting Question: what do you think about this? fasting results for an experiment!?

So I did something that got me in trouble, but i don't regret it. My friend and I were in Los Angeles for 3 weeks during last summer vacations. We encountered a fashion designer agent for a petite model search they were having in 2 1/2 weeks, and for some reason they really wanted us to audition for the runway. i'm 5ft4 and my friend is 5ft6, so we're not really petite, but not supermodel tall. My friend and I really wanted to be part of it, that we both decided to go on a water fast. We're also not fat, i was only 112lbs and my friend was 120lbs, but not supermodel skinny. So yeah, we fasted for 2 weeks, nothing but pure water as we were cruising around LA with my uncle. Miraculously, we both did lose alot of weight for the auditioning, and fuck we made it. I got down to 99lbs and my friend got down to 105lbs, so we looked good. And funny thing, it's been a year and my friend and I, both haven't gained any weight again. I've actually lost more weight during this spring, but not really on purpose. So, my point is, why do i hear alot of people tell other people here that fasting is not right for weight loss? It is, and if people have the will-power, they should try it. Exercise is alright, but not everyone has the time of day to do exercise when they are on busy schedules. Tell the truth, all hollywood celebrities fast when they want to lose weight. Models especially. And, no you won't die. Just don't make the fast longer than 3 weeks, or you maybe will become anorexic. So, why do you guys think you'll gain weight, when news flash, you're not eating!!!!!!? You actually become more better. Don't fast if you don't want too. And don't be afraid to break the fast and gaining the weight back and more. If you eat cabbage soup and vegetables, fruits for 2 weeks after a fast, you won't gain weight. I just gave you guys a secret not alot of celebrities want you guys to know. But you guys are smart, i figure you guys already knew that. Oh and i only got in trouble because i came back home and my parents were very concerned how i lost so much weight in 2 weeks, and i told them it was for a show. more

Resolved Question: In need of German Translator...?

Hi i need to have this translated in past present perfect....using gewessen, gegangen.. etc..., Can Anyone Help?? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Last vacation i went to Chinatown in Los Angeles with my Boyfriend. We went to Chinatown this past November. And stayed for one day. We traveled by train (Metro). We took a camera and money with us. We walked down all the streets and bought almond cookies and jewelry from the street vendors. We saw a 50 foot pagoda and a wishing well. Then we stopped and ate spicy mangos from another street vendor Overall, the trip was not too expensive. Later that night we had dinner at the CBS Restaurant. We had Dim Sum and Chicken and JellyFish with vegetables to eat and coke to Drink. It was surprisingly very delicious. When we tried to get back home on the train (metro) it was shut down due to maintenance. So we stayed at Union Station until we found a ride home. We arrived home around midnight. The trip was Very fun. We want to go again soon. But next time we plan to travel by car. Thanks more
