My boyfriend and I are poor college students, so we're trying to find a very cheap but relaxing activity for a short weekend summer getaway. We would love to pitch a tent on the beach of Lake Michigan (near the Grand Haven area) but we're not sure if that's legal or not. We're not planning to start a bonfire or anything, we just want to hang out for a night on the beach. Will we risk getting arrested or anything? If that's a no-go, anyone have any other relatively inexpensive vacation suggestions? more

I would like to go on a mini vacation with my boyfriend for spring break and I was planning on going to disneyworld but I think that maybe it's not such a good idea since it's going to be packed so I was wondering if anyone knew of a nice vacation spot in illinois or the states surrounding illinois as in michigan, indiana, wisconsin etc. thanks, by the way spring break will only be for a week. more

Resolved Question: Romantic Getaway Less than 7 hours from Chicago?

I'm trying to plan a mini vacation for this weekend for my 3 year wedding anniversary. We live in Chicago and don't want to have to drive too far. Hubby prefers a hotel within walking distance to a nice restaurant and I prefer a quaint little town. Hubby is anti B&B, which makes it hard to find a place on Lake Michigan. The problem I'm also running into is that a lot of places are booked up already. We also don't have to stay at the same place both Friday and Saturday nights. I have no problem staying in one town and going to visit another. Any suggestions?? more

We live outside Chicago and want to do some sort of local vacation. We've been to the Dells. I was hoping for something different in Indiana or Michigan. It's my parents 40th Anniversary March 23 & my brother & sister-in-law want to throw my parents a party which consist of 20 ppl. The party would be in April or May which I feel is not as much fun 2 celebrate after the fact. But to tell them we have a weekend getaway or a 5 day vacation would be great 2 send them in April or May. I live in FL and so does my Aunt (her sister) & Uncle. It's gonna cost us a lot 2 go 2 Michigan for the weekend and we feel it would be better 2 use the money 2 send my parents on a trip, but where? What is there in Michigan 2 do that would be fun for my parents that lived in Farmington Hills, Michigan their whole life? or what could they do outside of Michigan? I have know idea what they would be interested in doing. My parents r not into sports or the high end life, they r ur average american parents. We have already talked about sending them on a cruise, Dad wouldn't care 4 it. They have been 2 Machanaw Island, Sleeping Bear Dunes, not into gambling. HELP! more

Hey guys...I'm from the Chicago Area and I need a dayum vacation, more specifically a romantic getaway without my children. Maybe with one of my boyfriends...lol. Anywho I wanted to stay local maybe in the chicago, indiana, michigan or even wisconsin area, but not more then a 2 hour drive. The hotel must have a NICE view and a jacuzzi spa tub. Are there any good areas around Chicago / Lake Michigan that would be nice to have a short vacation at? I want somehwere I can go swimming at a (lake) beach & have plenty to do. I was looking at cabins & they;re kinda expensive & I dont think they're near chicago (30/60 minute drive from there would be ideal incase I wanted to enter the city) so is there any good areas to near the lake & such? more
