Ohio Vacation Questions asked

Open Question: Where Should I go On Vacation this Summer? (Near Ohio)?

Alright, so my mother and I have a little extra money to go on a vacation this summer, but we can think of no where to go. We've been to West Virginia a lot, so we don't want to go back there, but we need an area close by because we don't have a lot of money. Do you have any ideas for inexpensive but worthwhile vacations? (We're more outdoorsy than water park/theme park people) more

Open Question: Need 50th birthday vacation ideas for female-Home is Ohio, not more than $1500-$2000?

We are planning a 50th birthday vacation for a female. She is metaphysical/spiritual in nature. She does not drink, smoke nor gamble. She loves Art, Bluegrass Music, 70's music, Willie Nelson, and Traveling by Train. She has been to "major" vacation spots and we would like this to be something of remembrance, not your typical vacation. We are limited in cost and would like to keep it around $1500-$2000, the cost must take into account that her husband will be traveling with her. She is a "Bucket List" person and has already completed many on her list. (Key West, D.C., New Orleans, Dallas, etc. )They do not hike, run, jump nor do they do amusement parks, bungee, sky diving type of events. Must be in contiguous United States. She feels that there is no need to travel out of the US until she has seen everything it has to offer. She gets her excitement from learning, watching, growing and experiencing. It can be traveling or watching the sunset. So, where should she go and what should they do? Thanks in advance..... more

Voting Question: Terminating Employment?

Yesterday, I was called into a meeting with my manager and our acting CEO. I was asked to sign a new contract which would essentially strip me of my current title and move me to a title below my current one, and reduce me from Full Time hourly to Part Time hourly on an add needed basis. The reason give was generic – that they were examining all the positions within the company and how they fit within the company’s future needs. I did not say or question anything regarding this new contract other than to state that I needed time to review the contract and to think it over and that I will let them know by the end of the week. The subject was then dropped, and we continued our meeting professionally without any tension – as if the contract discussion had not happened. The real reason why I kept my cool, and didn’t sign anything is this – I need advice on how to handle the situation. I’m a firm believer in not burning bridges. But I seriously do not believe the reason stated for the contract change is the truth and here is why: 1.My manager and the acting CEO have an established history of pushing people out of their FT positions for similar excuses, only to then dramatically reduce their PT hours to the point where the employee has no other choice but to quit or be forced to work on a subcontract basis to pursue other opportunities just so they could meet their household financial obligations. In both cases, the employees were completely able, and available to take on other job responsibilities. If the concern was truly about the company’s financial concerns, as they had hired other personnel to complete responsibilities of which either of the two employees where more than qualified to work. When they hired me, I was hired as PT (prior to that I had worked for them on a subcontract basis for 6 years) and told that when my predecessor left I would assume his position and title, and I waited for over a month before they were successful in removing him from the position – during that time I was told that I was not to tell anyone why they brought me on as PT, and what they were trying to do. Needless to say they were successful in pushing him to change his employment status to subcontractor, and a short time after my status became FT and I assumed his title and responsibilities. I should also note that I took an hourly pay cut when I became a W2 employee – my hourly subcontract rate was significantly more. 2.The 2 employees they have done this to in the past 14 months had both “fallen out of favor” with my manager and the acting CEO. And were viewed by the manager and acting CEO as an obstacle in their plans for the company. About a month ago I raised some concerns with my manger and CEO about the direction of the company, and subsequently found that in doing so I have now fallen out of favor with them. 3.I am pregnant (of which they were informed within the timeframe established in our employee handbook). I am a month shy of the beginning of my 3rd Trimester. Our company is located in Ohio, and we have less than 50 employees. Although I have had physical discomfort with the pregnancy due to an instable pelvis, I have been able to perform my duties to their fullest. I am however considered a high risk pregnancy, and my third trimester could be difficult for me. Forcing me to change my contract from FT to PT would mean they would not be required to provide me with any paid time off (vacation, personal, or sick days). 4.I am an instructor and manage our other instructors. I have the most teaching experience, the most depth (no other instructor we employ is capable of teaching as many courses as I do – and for several courses I am the ONLY instructor who teaches those topics). The only two topics I don’t teach I am fully capable of teaching (but am not interested in doing so, nor is there a need for me to do so) as I have actual hands on prior work experience in that field. I also have had consistently for the past 7 years had the highest evaluation scores of all of our instructors. I have taught the most hours, and students and I have the highest number of students who successfully achieve certification. I am extremely popular with the students – to the point where they request to be scheduled in my classes and write wonderful comments on my evaluations (both of which rarely happens with our other instructors). I should also note I have copies of the evaluation reports to back up what I am saying. 5.I know for a fact that 2 of my coworkers who are also FT resigned this week – both had other better opportunities (but only chose to look for those opportunities after they too had fallen out of favor with my manager and acting CEO). I have been cross trained with the one position, and on a regular basis successfully assume many of those responsibilities when my co-worker is away. I am more than able of absorbing their job responsibilities. I am also able to per more

Resolved Question: What can I do with this insurance company?

Okay heres the deal in a nutshell. My father, mother, wife, kids and I were going on a vacation is amish country in ohio where we live. We were on the way back from dinner when a can full of teenagers pulled out in front of us and we hit them. The driver of the other car was cited for the accident and did not have insurance. I have had to make some trips to the chiropractor for my neck and everyone else was fine(thank god). My fathers insurance company promised me that there was a allocated fund in his policy for uninsured motorist or underinsuured. They promised me that they would take care of everything. Well the doctor visits are still not payed for. The claim rep with my dads insurance company is demanding my auto insurance info becuase he says a lot of times they will split the bill. Well after speaking with me insurance company they said that it would leave a claim against me that may be a factor in cost when renewal comes up. Which I do not want to do. I do not see how they could demand this. My father says that I should sue him and that his insurance company has to represent him in the case to get is settled a little quicker. The insurance company keeps switching reps on this case. What should I do. I have never been involved in a senerio like this. more

Voting Question: Am I wrong or is my mother wrong?

I'm 16 years old and live in Ohio, along with my five best friends. We've all been friends forever and all of our parents know each other and all of us. We're all really good kids: we get great grades, we don't drink, smoke, or do anything bad. We were all talking and we said we want to go on a vacation together, just us six. We decided we want to go to Fort Lauderdale, Florida this summer. We want to earn the money to go ourselves, so our parents don't have to pay for any part of it. We'd fly there, get a taxi to our hotel, get a nice suite that we could all stay in (or two separate rooms if needed) stay for 5-7 days, get a taxi to the airport, and fly back home. My mom said absolutely not and if we want to go then we can wait until it's the summer after our senior year and a parent would have to go with us. She said that we aren't old enough to travel by ourselves. And maybe when we're seniors all the parents can go along too, but for now, no. She also said that most parents wouldn't let their kids do this. I say that who knows if I will still have the same friends? or, what if nobody wants to do it by then? and plus we'll probably be saving up more for college then, so we won't want to spend our money on that. and that would defeat the purpose of us going on our own and earning it all ourselves. Plus, once one parent wants to go, the whole family wants to go. when one family goes, all want to go and then its just to much and the whole idea is shot. Give your honest opinion. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Resignation and Vacation Benefits?

I would like to resign from my company within the next 8-9 weeks. My company is located in Ohio and has less than 50 employees. I am full time According to our handbook I would receive 2 weeks vacation The handbook does not indicate that the time is accrued in the Employee Benefits section Vacations need to be approved ahead of time by supervisor According to the termination section of the handbook, if we give two weeks notice then vacation time can not be used during that time, and we would be paid any remaining pro-rated vacation time in our final paycheck. Anyone who does not give a two weeks notice forfeits any unused vacation pay. My questions are the following: What would be the best way for me to resign so that I receive my vacation days? Should I go on vacation, and upon my return submit my resignation? Should I be concerned that if I take my vacation days they will subtract them from my pay on final paycheck? Could I take my two weeks vacation, and 4 days after my return submit my letter of resignation listing my last date as being 15 days (counting the current day) from the day the letter is submitted? If I were to time it as such, I would have received my vacation pay on the paycheck before I submitted my resignation, and 9 of my last days of work would be on the next paycheck…. And my tenth day on my final paycheck. Thoughts????I have had more than 1 year of continuous full time employement more

Voting Question: How do you translate the paragraphs below in Filipino?

Violinist Samantha (Jennifer Love Hewitt), an American music student in London, is always taken for granted by her live-in partner Wyndham (Paul Nicholls), an ambitious young Briton who loves her but who loves his career more. In the morning of the day she is to hold her concert—an event she has been preparing for for three years—he totally forgets about it, being absorbed in a presentation he is to make to the company board that morning. Samantha tries everything to catch a bit more of his attention and time as she is supposed to leave the next day for a long vacation in Ohio—presenting him with a gift jacket, strip-teasing and pinning him down to bed, making him breakfast, but Wyndham manages to avoid intimacy, obsessed as he is with his presentation. Samantha takes all this with a smile and a generously forgiving heart. Little does he know that he is to lose her to death that day. The story of If Only has the element of the supernatural (like clairvoyance), and would have been sheer nonsense if it had been less deftly handled. But as it is, the presence of the paranormal does not overshadow the story's on-your-face realness—credit this to the good choice of actors: the gamin-faced Hewitt (an actress of exceptional beauty wouldn't have come on as vulnerable as she does here), and the tender-eyed Nicholls (a more macho type wouldn't have suited the tear-jerking part he plays). Despite the extraordinary plot development and the intricate turn of events, the story comes clearly across, thanks to its skillful editing and good characterization. The movie also showcases Hewitt's vocal/musical prowess as she performs a couple of songs which she has also written and composed. If Only appears to be an ordinary love story, with the male lead crying half of the time (yes, more than the female lead), but justifiably so. If the actors' tear ducts seem to have been overworked here it's because the movie is about the loss of a loved one—and the agonizing realization that one never really knows what treasure one has until one loses it. The message is unmistakably clear, relevant and valid in our day and age when young people have increasingly become more achievement-oriented and driven by a purpose other than love. Taken seriously, If Only should help viewers slow down and sort things out to discover what are the truly important things in life. CINEMA rates it A-14, and parents are cautioned to point out to their teenaged children that while the message of If Only is positive, certain factors present in it deserve careful scrutiny, like the supernatural element, and the fact that the couple are but live-in partners. more

Resolved Question: People, writers, everyone out there, please review this section of my book!?

Tell me if theres any typo or grammatical error. Note that this is only part of my book not the whole thing so maybe you wont understand. This is the beginning of the first chapter of my book. Your comments are welcomed! Alpha We’ve recently returned from a long vacation in Florida, were my aunt lives. The journey had erased every trace of frustration in my mind, though when I entered the house, the memories immediately went back. I went to sleep in my room to recover the energies that I had lost from the long trip back to Ohio. When I finally opened my eyes I felt a warm ray burning my right cheek, it was the sun. I looked at the clock at my left; 7:43 in the morning. I got out of bed and cleaned up the mess in it, which was little. I took a warm shower, cleaned my teeth and headed for the kitchen. As I went down the stairs I saw my Grandpa brewing some tea. “Good morning!” I said cheerfully. “Hello Cindy, want some tea?” he said to me with an enchanting smile. “Yeah, sure” I smiled back. I took the cup with tea and slowly swallowed it. Grandpa began talking about the plans for the day. “I am thinking of visiting the Stone’s. They moved recently to the neighborhood and I would like to make some friends”. I could see in his eyes that he was excited about it. My grandpa didn’t have many friends, just like me. “Are they the ones that lived in Ashtabula?” I asked while I took a zip of tea. “Yeah, they actually are a couple and people say they are a little lonely”. “Oh, so are you going today to their house with us?” I started to get pissed just by thinking of it. He looked at me seriously, and then looked away immediately. He knew I wasn’t that sociable. And, yes, I wasn’t. I liked silence and peace. I had had some friends in school and lost them all. Some went out of school, got in trouble and ended in jail. Others started dating early in life and ended pregnant. It was pure hell. Also I had a girl friend in school. I told her that there was a boy who was handsome; just handsome. The next day she had said that I wanted to date him and that I was going gaga for him to everybody in school. Oh! And the time when a friend exposed a secret of mines and I got in trouble with grandma, I had to finally end the relationship. All of these experiences helped me to see the dangers of friendship. Though, I had to admit I was indeed lonely. It was already time for our lonely lives to change. “Exactly Cynthia” grandpa said, changing his voice from lovely to husky. “What hour?” “We’ll go at twilight” “You mean like at 6:00?” “Yes” he said while he putted his mug under the freezing stream of water. “No problem with that” I said quietly. I left my mug on the counter so he could clean it. I was planning to spend the morning in the woods behind our house, writing. My grandfather had spread the virus of writing over me. And to be sincere, I loved it. I had a way to heal the scars of sadness and depression, and it was getting a pencil, my notebook and going into the quiet forest that embedded me in its darkness. “Papa, ohm, I’ll be in the woods writing, I feel like I have to chillax.” “Ok, but stay in the safe place, I don’t want you to get in trouble” he said. “Don’t worry, I will. Oh! And another thing, can I bring Job with me?” “Yeah that’s a great idea, go get him. I will be in the workshop till three o’ clock.” The old workshop in which my grandpa used to work now was his new writing place. Here at Cleveland, my grandpa had had awards for best seller novels as well as poems and songs. “And granny?” I asked. “She’ll be baking in the house for the Stone family” grandpa said as he walked away and waved me goodbye. “Ok see you soon!” I waved at him too, while he opened the door of his car and started the engine. I went running into the house to wake up Job, which had been sleeping more than I had. I opened the door of his room and banged it into the wall. I shouted as hard as I could, “Job wake up!” I suddenly realized that Job wasn’t in the house; he was shopping with grandma in the local supermarket. That meant I had the woods all to myself. So I got out of the house and walked towards the pines behind our property. Job and I were still in vacations because it was summer. Still, the air was cold. As I walked to the tall pines there it was; our little sanctuary. When we were little and still not orphans, grandpa had cut down some pines by half and created a path that lead to the middle of the forest. I swear that I could hear the voices of the people who made this place a holy place. When I got to the middle of the woods I could clearly see the tree house my grandfather promised Job that he would construct just for him and me. “It’s your house now Job, you take care of it with Cynthia” my grandfather told him when he finally ended the construction. I climbed the long forgotten wooden staiI forgot the rest of it! stairs, and got into the tree house. There was a seating bag in the floor and a desk. I got out of my backpack my notebook and sat on another chair in front of the desk. Then I let my mind got lost in emotion as my hand moved making letters on a piece of paper. Tears moisturized my cheeks as I wrote my feelings. But it wasn’t a torture for me; writing was the only way to express myself. Suddenly I heard movement around the woods. My heart drummed faster than that of a hummingbird. I took a peek from a window that was in front of the desk. I saw a dark shadow, and then it disappeared. My heart stopped and then continued to pump blood into my veins. more

Resolved Question: Should I use cash or credit cards on my vacation?

Im going on vacation in a couple of days. Its a 19 hour drive to Florida from Ohio. I have less money for my vacation due to some unexpected bills. So should i use some of whats in my checking to pay off one of my credit cards and use the card on vacation? This means I would have less cash for my trip though. Also im receiving 3 paychecks once I get back into town. So I would have no problem paying off the money i put on my card on vacation once the bill comes. What would you do? more

Resolved Question: Virginia Beach Vacation question?

I have searched countless websites and still have not found an answer to my question. I am planning a early June ( the first week) vacation to Virginia Beach. I am learning that Sandbridge would be a good choice however we want access to the boardwalk. What would be a good hotel with the best of both worlds? Quiet but not too quiet. We like all that the tourist area has to offer but would prefer a bit quieter of a beach spot. Maybe if we are going in early June this won't be a problem but maybe it will be. I have read that there is a Military event going on with a concert that we would like to avoid. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know much about the trash pile hill? Are there carnival like rides there? I have searched sites with this info but it never gave off too many details. This is out first family vacation. My husband is 38 years old and has never seen the ocean. Our son is 7 and has never seen the ocean and we are bringing my step daughter who is 16. We are looking for fun family activities. I have already searched many things but reading about them does not explain what they are like from a persons perspective. WE just want to have a good time and not spend a fortune. We are traveling from Ohio. WE have chosen Virginia Beach because it is the closest ocean to us. ANY input would be great....What to see what to avoid and what is a good location? THANK YOU! more

Voting Question: Want to take a family summer vacation but cannot decide where! Read details, please.?

Last summer we had a blast at Washington D.C. We live in NE Florida so that plane ride wasn't long. We are originally from Ohio. We have not really been over in central or western U.S. We pretty much have been from Ohio and down LOL. Any ideas where we should go? We were thinking about possibly a national park like yellowstone. Doesn't have to be but we are open to suggestions! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Can't figure out where to go for vacation?

We have a week off for vacation at the end of the school year & don't know where to go! We have 3 children all under the age of 10. We have family that live near Cincinnati Ohio that we could see, but we always go there every year & I'm not sure what else new we could do there. We have family that lives around 4 hrs from Denver Colorado, they just moved out there this winter & we've never been to their town, & they want us to come see their new place, but I'm not sure if I want to travel that far (we live in Illinois). We have family that lives 3 hrs from The Mall of America in Minnesota, but I wouldn't feel comfortable staying there more than a couple of nights & I'm not sure what there is to do around their town. I want to go somewhere that's exciting for the kids & us, but it also can't be too expensive. I would love to go to a beach, but I'm not sure all the kids are old enough to travel that far & be around the water/in the sun for that long. Flying somewhere is not an option, it's too expensive, we would need to drive. Any ideas? more

Voting Question: Vacation help for the Midwest/East Coast!?

We live in Cleveland, Ohio and are looking for a good vacation spot for us and family that is good for young children (ages: baby, 2 yr old, 2 yr old, 4 yr old). We are willing to drive about 6 hours from where we are. I am seeing a lot of waterparks, but they are geared for much older children. Any ideas out there? more

Resolved Question: Florida Spring Break Question, PLEASE HELP ASAP?

I need advice quick I’m planning a vacation for Spring Break, and I don’t know where I want to go. I want to go somewhere warm, but with a upbeat atmosphere I was thinking about Florida. I would love to go to Panama since it is spring break season but I’m afraid it wont be warm enough there. Also I am 21 and I’m taking a few of my friends and my sister and two of her friends they are 17 and 18. So I’m going to need something to entertain all age groups and Disney world is out of the question. We want to go to a pretty and fun beach with like a typical board walk and the touristy shops. So the question is where is a fun place in Florida to go that is semi affordable and has something to do for all age groups. My sister wanted to go the Miami or Fort Lauderdale but I’m afraid the clubs are 21+ and all they would do is sit up in the room. I don’t want to go into the Keys because airfare is ridiculous I wish that Myrtle beach or Hilton Head was warm this time of year. Keep in mind we don’t have to go to Florida just somewhere with a beach that has nice weather, I go to bowling green state university in Ohio so we are all looking to get out of the cold. By the way someone mentioned California or Alabama but I am not familiar with that area. Also the places you suggest, if you could please suggest a hotel you have stayed at in the past or have found would be great. Thanks :)What does anyone know about South Padre Island more

Resolved Question: Destination wedding vs at home?

Ok so my fiance and I got engaged in august 2009. It is now Jan 2010. We have been back and forth for 5 months now. At first we wanted a fall wedding in 2011. That seemed great except we got to looking into the cost of everything and realized we are looking at atleast ten grand. We are a younger couple just starting out and paying for college. So we don't have that kinda of cash to spend right now. We both love the beach and we would love to get married in florida. we could do the whole thing for like 3 grand. That's not bad at all. Plus it would make a pretty awsome vacation for the family members who came to florida with us. BUT the only problem is we live in Ohio and my fiance's parents are not being supportive of his decision to go away and have a beach wedding. It's hard to explain why on here but for there own reasons. I feel terrible because almost all of my family is willing to go to florida but only one of his family members can go from his side. I am just wondering if it's asking too much of him to go? I wouldn't want to go if my parents couldn't be there. But i ask him over and over " are you sure" and he says yes. I would just feel bed if hes doing the whole beach wedding for me. I know he really wants the beach wedding but unfortunatley his parents are putting us in a predicament. So I want to know your opinions. What would you do?DUDLEYDO- This is for you. The reason we are picking florida is because it's a nice location and after the wedding we are all going on a family cruise together. So that is why we chose miami. Also we understand not everyone has the money BUT that's not the reason his parents are not going. They also want us to have a big catholic wedding in ohio that costs atleast 15,000. I already looked it up and to have a beach wedding it will be 1,000 and then we are all going on the cruise for a recepion. So yes it will only cost 3000 by the end of it. Everyone gets a nice trip out of it. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: how do my friends and i find a deserted island to live on?

hey everybody. so me and a couple of my friends have to decided that when we turn 18 we want to runaway and buy a cheap boat or something and go live on some islands. now im not talking about a 6 month vacation i mean LIVE on an islandand kinda start our one little civilization on it which would include having kids yes anyway theres only one problem. we need to find on island. now i know there are some islands that are owned that have neighboring islands that are pretty much uninhabited. and i know there are some islands that nobody has claimed yet right? so we live in ohio and we need to figure out how we are going to do this. is it illegal to just go find an island and live there? do you know of any islands that are uninhabited? how can we find a deserted island? do we just get in a boat and go sailing around looking for islands? would we need a passport? if we got to an island and started living there and it turned out to be owned by some country would we get in trouble with the law or something? would we have to pay? because we are looking for an island that we could plant on. we kinda want it to be like on castaway you know? you know pretty much nobody knows about it. if we found an island and it was kind of a touristy place but only a little and we wen to some islands around that main island and there was nobody there could we use that island or would they make us leave? also i found some islands near australia they are called Yanuca Lailai (also known as Lost Island) what would be the cheapest way to get there since its halfway around the world. you know we just wanna be independant and not contribute to the worlds destruction we wanna live off of the island and live in peace and harmony we are tired of everyday life and pollution. please help us and if you know of any islands in the atlantic ocean that would be great.<3i understand how hard it would be and i realize the reality of the situation. i've read many other people ask this on here and one girl said that she was watching the discovery channel on deserted islands and how there are tons of islands in the pacific that have not been claimed. you all have pointed out some draw-backs but its been done before. there was actually this one guy a long time ago who got stranded on a deserted island a couple of them left the island but three of them stayed and actually lived. and its not like we would be going there clueless. we would bring compasses, food, water, tools, along with books about building, math, astrology, medicine, agriculture, etc. and maps we would have enough food and water to sail back to civilization if needed. and yes i do know how expensive it would be but its not like we are going to leave next year we are going to raising A LOT of money for this experiment. and we would stay in americas teritory waters. we would notify the.......cost gaurd that we would be sailing and then if we find an island that is deserted we would stay there and if we find out that we arent aloud to be there we would simply leave. also i am asking if this is possible if you have the knowledge. can this be done. people have gotten stranded on islands before and have lived there. except for us we would be prepared so whats the difference? except we would have a bigger chance of living.also tv, internet, phones, etc. we know what we are leaving behind. and if people in the 1700's and 1800's could live that way so can we. more

Resolved Question: Taking a vacation alone, worth it or not?

I'm a single 29 year old guy from Ohio and I don't have much family and my friends are married or arnt a big part of my life anymore. I dont:hunt, ski, surf, or anything like that. I haven't been on a vacation in at least 4 years and I'm not well traveled so to speak. Last vacation I was on was with my parents back in 06 and being stuck with them in a 1br condo for 5 days just led to a big fight. So not doing that again. This would probably be a car trip,I basically just want to go to a state(or states) I've never ever been too. I am into historical stuff, parks, the ocean, and good food :). Any ideas or should I just stay home and relax. more
