Open Question: Why should I or should I not be in the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony again?

I am a 16 year old boy who lives a 45 minutes away from Cleveland, Ohio. I absolutely LOVE music but mainly classical, and none of the contemporary music. I have played the trumpet for 3 1/2 years now and I am a devoted musician. I even bring and play my trumpet on vacations! I was in the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony and Cleveland Youth Jazz Orchestra this past year of 2009-10 and I was in group II in the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony (CYWS) and I was in the group II's concert winds (the group II was actually split into 2 groups-concert winds and symphonic winds). I did not have much fun or think that I musically benefited too much from this experience. I auditioned again this year for it and I got into group II (but I don't know if I'm in concert or symphonic winds). However, this year I am getting a scholarship to pay for half the tuition (total tuition is $375) if I choose to participate. This year could be different and hopefully better. By the way, I drive up there with my dad on Saturdays and I go to the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony practice and then the Cleveland Youth Jazz Orchestra practice after that, so I am already going to be up there from December-late April. If I'm in the group and don't have fun again, that would be bad and I'd just waste time that I could spend doing homework, being with friends, etc. But if I'm not in it then I might feel like I would be missing out on something. Last year I got to play at Severance Hall with this group for 1 of our 4 concerts and my whole family came-even my 85 year old grandmother. She loved it and none of my family had ever been there before. Please give me some advice! I don't know what to do! more

Resolved Question: Long Distance Trail Riding?

I've been thinking about planning a long distance ride for a while now and I'm probably going to take the plunge and do it as my "big ride" next spring. With three weeks vacation I think I could do a portion of the Buckeye Trail, I'm thinking from Hocking County down to Hamilton County (Ohio). This stretch of trail goes through several parks I'm already familiar with and have ridden in, has plenty of camping (several horse camps along the route) and water sources, minimal road riding and doesn't pass through any cities. The scenery is beautiful, the bridle trails are well-maintained and I'm familiar with the areas. Seems a pretty good choice for a first solo long distance ride. So I'm weighing the pros and cons of bringing a pack horse with me. I've already got two geldings that have packed before and are quite good at it. They've been trail partners for about 5 years now. It would be nice to be able to switch off saddle horses and very convenient to be able to carry extra gear. But...It would double the work caring for them. Only taking one horse would simplify things a bit. So what do you think? If you did something like this would you want a pack horse or not? And about the panniers...I have a set of soft panniers with hard inserts. If you have ever used them, do you prefer hard or soft? I've never used the inserts on mine. I don't know if I'd like them or not. What are the pros and cons to each in your opinion? Open Question: Fall beach vacation alone, but where?

I'm currently in a relationship, so I'm not looking to meet new men or go on some crazy singles vacation. My boyfriend doesn't really seem eager to spend the money right now to go away, but I really need a vacation and I want to spend a week at the beach. So I'm going with or without him this year. I've never been on vacation alone, but I really need some time to think and just relax! I live in Ohio and I know my vacation will be around the first week of November. The question is...where can a 30-something woman go to spend some quality quiet time on the beach and feel safe? Money is a bit of a concern; my goal is not to spend more than about $1500 for 5-7 days away. I've been all over the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii; but never alone. So I'm really nervous about feeling safe; but I'm committed to finding a great place. Suggestions please... more

Hello! My boyfriend and I haven't gone on a vacation together yet and we were hoping to do something this fall. A nice get away, not too expensive (college students here haha) and nothing out of the US. We are from Ohio and are willing to drive as far as Florida via car, preferably but we can do train as well but not flying. Neither of us will. Bad experiences. We were looking for something for 20&21 year olds, we don't drink or party, so no big party destinations. Amusement parks are okay, but we have one of the best in Ohio and it's old news to us. We both enjoy sciences and are up to try new things. I guess some descriptive words that we would like the vacation to be are romantic, relaxing, exciting, adventurous, memorable. Resolved Question: Mini-Vacation Ideas.....?

I want to go on a mini-vacation with my girlfriend in early to mid november. It's important for me to plan this long enough ahead of time to ensure that i get all the days off that i need I live in Northwest Ohio (think Cedar Point-ish) and she lives in Detroit, Mi, I'd like to do something that is close enough that we can travel by car, bus, or train within a day or so. Going into my senior year, I'm 17 years old. 3.0 GPA 21 ACT (but I'm going to retake it in the fall) Taking an AP class this year played 2 seasons of football, 2 seasons of wrestling, 2 seasons of volleyball, and 3 seasons swimming so far. 3 year varsity letterman in swimming and voted senior captain Selected as one of 30 high school student in central ohio for the Explorer's Program of Medicine. Born in South America but moved to the United States when I was 7, the summer before starting 2nd grade. (I am an American Citizen) and one more thing, i'm not sure if they look at your work experience, but i worked with my dad every summer since the 8th grade, as i got to learn more about the business, he trusted me enough to leave me in charge of the entire company while he went on vacation this summer, the fact that a 17 year old guy was in charege of an entire company for three weeks should be a big deal but is that something i should mention? the reason i'm stressed out is because i feel like my grades are low and i haven't done a whole lot of community service except 20 hours required for a class. and i'm retaking the ACT this fall but i know we should be applying for colleges this fall so do you think that it'd look bad if I apply a little late because i was waiting for my ACT results? In the end, how do i look as an applicant to one of these colleges? (OSU/UIC) I want to study medicine so that's why I added the Medicine Program in there. more

Resolved Question: I could use some advice please?

Ok so in two weeks I'm going to cedar point in Ohio. Im going with my dad to drop my older sister off at colledge. Knowing that it is the rollarcoaster capital of the world...im not a big rollar coaster person. I want to make the best of our vacation. Does someone know of any easy methods of dealing with this problem of being scared of these lv 5 (out of 5) rollar coasters. I usually chicken out once i get to the ride but i dont want to this time. Resolved Question: Getting terminated from job for being sick during pregnancy?

Hello.. I have some questions I would really need help with. I live in Ohio. I am currently 3 months pregnant and I had to call off work on Saturday. My employer knew that I went to my OBGYN on Friday evening due to severe pain in my under stomach and right side and that I was dealing with a urinary tract infection that we thought might have turned into a kidney infection. The doctor did another blood test and urine sample and told me if it gets worse over the weekend to rest and go to the ER immediately. Anyway, Saturday morning the pain was even more severe and I started throwing up non stop and for a moment I thought I might lose the baby. So my partner called my job and spoke to one of my managers and explained the whole situation and told him I would not be able to come in today. I could not call myself, I could not leave the bathroom. Sunday was my regular day off and because I still could not keep anything down monday morning I went back to the doctor. I called work early in the morning and talked to an assistant warehouse manager, because by the time on of my managers would come in I was at the doctors. The doctor said I was severely dehydrated and wrote me a doctors note. And then today (Tuesday) was another one of my regular days off. I am still not feeling great, but will be back to work tomorrow on my regular schedule. Now I got a call from 2 coworkers warning me that they are planing on firing me for 3 days no call no show and that they do not accept that my fiance called off for me Saturday. For some reason I am not surprised, my store manager tries things like that all the time and I already had problems with her where she did not want to let me go on maternity leave for more than two weeks. My baby is due in january, by then I will be with the company for a little over 1 year and will only have 1 week of vacation and 1 week of sick days I could take. Until I printed out papers out of the internet that she will have to allow me to take at least my 6 weeks of maternity leave (in our handbook it even says that I am allowed to take 12 weeks of FMLA). Anyway, I just want to be prepared for whatever comes my way. Could I be fired for this, even tho I called off as I was supposed too and even have a doctors note? Or could I be written up for this? And if I do get fired, would I be able to collect unemployment? I will probably have to fight for it, but I just want to know what my chances are. Thank you. more

oak so i went on vacation to Pennsylvania(im from ohio).i went to my aunts house with my mom,ungle,and brother.so my aunts takes care of these foster kids,one is mentally retarded and my aunt had gotten this new foster kid that i havent met yet.when i met him he was pretty cool hes 16 and 6foot 2 hes a wrestler,he is also sooo smart he is going to be 17 august the 20 and going to texas for college.sooo to make the long story short he told my brother that i was attractive and stuff.so he was pretty nice to me but he dose have issues so one day he went missing so i checked the house and stuff,now my aunt had left for work,she locks the door because she dosent want us in there,so anyways i walk pass the door and see it cracked open.so i got to my room and came back and the door was locked again and i she joe(the foster boy) so im like "so you were in my aunts room" he denied it.but i kept saying i know you were in there,so he finally confesses so i said how you get in there he said he jigged the lock he showed me how he used his school card and open the door.he told me not to tell anyone,but i did.i told my mom not thinking she would tell my aunt,because i really didn't think it was a big deal.so my mom told my aunt and she got really upset.now joe dosent do anything in there but get on the cp.soo on the last day for us to head back home he told me another Secret he said that he was the one who riped up my moms cigarettes and threw them in the trash.i asked why he do it hes said because he hates smokkers and had a bad expreince with them. so my aunt had found out he did it and stuff.so when it was time for us to go back home my aunt have cussed joe out about going in her room and stuff.so we had to leave and i didn't say sorry or bye because he was in his room,still mad.now my aunt is a good foster care mom she lives in a big house and dosent hit them at all,she just cusses.now im just really really sad that i had snitch.before all of this happened he wanted me to add him on facebook.i saw his facebook page im just to scared to add him now because i dont think he wants me to add him anymore.what do i do im torn up about this:[wtf are you talking about purple princess!u dident have to answer! more

Theres this boy at college that likes me but I'm not fond of him but I do still talk to him and stay polite. Now since im home for summer vacation (which sucks) all i do is think about him. I text him everyday to see whats going on or just to make conversation and look at his facebook at least 16 times a day. I have no life or friends back at home in Ohio because they all have boyfriends that they stay with and I havent seen any of them not once and I still have another month left of summer. I'm writing a novel about my trip to Louisiana, and this is the prologue. This guy I know wants me to send it to him, but I don't know if it's good enough. And plus I'm scared of what he'll think XD So, below is the prologue. Can you read it and tell me what you think, please? Thanks! PROLOGUE “I don’t know why I bought this stupid thing,” Lainie muttered to herself, referring to the old, worn suitcase she was packing for her eighteen day trip to Louisiana. It was true – she couldn’t remember why she bought it. After all, the black and white camouflage design wasn’t exactly eye-appealing, and it was really bright, so no one would be able to miss it. Under normal circumstances, Lainie wouldn’t have been caught dead with something so hideous, but she didn’t have the time to look for a better-looking suitcase, now. After a long and miserable school year, summer had finally arrived and that was the time that the whole family separated to go to different places. Zane, Lainie’s brother, would go to Washington D.C. with his father. Lainie’s mother and step father, Tanya and Thomas, would go to Steubenville, Ohio to visit Thomas’s family. Lainie knew her mother and step father would want to vacation by themselves this year, so she took the opportunity to visit her dysfunctional, Cajun family in New Iberia, Louisiana. Normally, Tanya wouldn’t let Lainie go for more than ten days, but since no one was going to be home for at least two weeks, this was an exception. “You bought it because it stood out. No one else would have one like it, so you’d always know what bag was yours at baggage claim,” Tanya answered with a little smile. She was sitting on Lainie’s bed, watching her pack her suitcase. “Besides,” She continued, “I told you it was ugly before you even bought it. You wouldn’t listen.” “Oh. Right,” Lainie mumbled, not really paying attention to her mother. She was packing the last of her clothes and trying to get the suitcase to close and zip up. “Are you excited about visiting your grandparents?” Tanya asked, crossing her ankles, watching Lainie struggle with the suitcase. “I guess.” “You guess?” “I’ve seen them plenty of times, before. We do the exact same thing every time I go there. I’m happy I’ll get to see them again, but I’m not excited about sitting around and doing nothing for eighteen days.” Lainie finally zipped up her suitcase got off of the floor to sit next to her mother on the bed. “They’re old. All they like to do nowadays is take naps and go to church.” Tanya laughed. “You should enjoy going to church.” “Going to church makes you a believer just as much as standing in a bathroom makes you a toilet.” Lainie smiled at her clever comment. “There is always Carrie,” Tanya said, more to herself. Carrie, Lainie’s cousin, wasn’t exactly the best influence, and Tanya regretted even mentioning Carrie’s name. “I’m sure she’ll find a lot of trouble for you. That’s exciting, right?” Lainie giggled, but didn’t answer. Lainie and Carrie had a history of getting in trouble together. There was the time they accidently rode Carrie’s four-wheeler into a ditch, and the time they messed with the horse next door to Carrie’s house, and the old man it belonged to ran outside with his shotgun, and the time Carrie stole her sister’s car and took Lainie on a drive through town without a permit or license. Carrie was an exciting person, and did like to find trouble. Even though Lainie didn’t enjoy the getting-in-trouble part, Carrie always found things to do and never got bored. Lainie was suddenly excited to go to Louisiana. “Get some sleep, little girl,” Tanya heaved a sigh and stood up, straightening out her shorts. “Your flight leaves early, tomorrow.” “Okay. Good night, Mom,” Lainie said before she went to her closet for her pajamas. “’Night,” her mom called as she left the room and started down the hall. okay im going on vacation next month and I want to find a luxury hotel that allows 18 year olds to check in//it has to be a kid friendly place!!! I gave 2 weeks notice 4 weeks ago and received my last paycheck. I have yet to receive my accrued vacation pay, 100 hours. Company policy is to pay all vacation time if 2 weeks notice was given. Resolved Question: Should I take road trip w/ my toddler alone?

I am a single parent in desperate need of a vacation and change of scenery. I would like to take a trip which will be 5 hours with my 18 month old. I am now becoming a little apprehensive about the semi-long drive. I was thinking we could stop after 2.5 hours. I would leave around 8am and be in Ohio by 1ish or 2 if we stopped. She does not like much tv so a dvd is not an option. In my city we visit parks, shop, etc, and always have a good time alone, so I know we'd have a good time. Can someone tell me if this means I get my boys more than the every other weekend? (like the extended vacations for a non-custodial parent) This is in Ohio if that helps.we don't want anything over and above the standard orders. our problem is the ex-wife (residential parent) is saying that the ONLY time we can have is the one day a week and every other weekend. I'm from Ohio but I live in Connecticut. I went back to Ohio to visit family and I hit a guard rail and no other cars were damaged and noone was hurt. They found out it was me somehow, threw me in jail and took my license for a hit and skip. I was granted driving priveledges to drive to and from work by the Judge. I was on vacation and couldn't miss work so I came back to Connecticut. Now they are saying that I can't get a Connecticut State photo ID (not driver's license) because it will void my priviledges from the Judge and my license in Ohio will be canceled so I'd have to take the driving test again and I wouldn't be able to drive to and from work until my suspension was up. Furthermore, I can't get a temporary in Ohio because they are saying I have to physically be there. How can I get another ID issued to me that has my picture and address and is official? I'm having a hard time going to 21 over events, buying cigarettes, picking up mail at the post office, etc. Pass port is the only thing I can think of. more

so my girlfriend is a sweet girl from seattle that i've been talking to for about a year and a half now, i went on vacation there last year and we chilled. it was cool but then she decided to come to where i live which is ohio. she is 16 mind you and hopped a greyhound all the way here. i was object to it at first as it seemed like the worst idea. within 2 weeks she arrived and did not plan it out whatsoever.(i told her not to come here but she is very stubborn and did anyway) she came to columbus and was living the hobo life and was homeless. i was only 18 at he time and living with my mom and grandparents. the first day she got here i met up with her (i felt bad since she was in a new city and didn't know anyone) so the first day we chilled and i realized she needed to go back. so i called the cops and had her taken to child services, the next day she was to get on a plane, she ran away from her escort and decided to stay in columbus. after that we stopped talking for a few months. ( i didn't trust her and thought she was crazy) 4 months later what do you know? we're hanging out like old times. this time she was just crashing with whomever would let her stay and in the process gained a bad reputation for stealing. we hang out for like 2 months and then start dating. then we moved into a house with my friends because she had nowhere to stay and i was worried for her safety on the streets. she said her dad could send her rent money, but never did. (smokes meth and is a sex offender) we ended up not getting rent and my friends are now mad at me. now since she has nowhere to stay we have to crash at my dads in the suburbs. it sucks. i spend every single waking moment with her, and it drives me crazy. she constantly guilt trips me about stuff, and talks shit to people through my facebook and texts girls that are my friends mean things and pushed them away. my friends rarely call me to chill anymore. i've been so wrapped up in this that i don't skateboard as much, or do the things i was about doing before we dated. i get so frustrated sometimes. i've tried to break up with her more than 15 times and she just gets pathetic and says " noooooooo" in a cute voice and says " but i love youuuu." i get suckered into being nice to her because i feel so bad for her. i've also been wasting money feeding her, clothing her, and any other general expense like that when i barley have enough money to support myself. ( i currently have no job) i'm very stressed out by all of this and would like to hear some other peoples' input on the overall situation. please help : / more

Resolved Question: Why can't I swim underwater without having my nose plugged?

I am 14. I live in Ohio. I find it kind of sad that every time I swim I just CAN NOT go underwater without plugging my nose. All the water goes up my nose. If I try blowing air out of my nose it runs out in a matter of seconds. My cousins even my 11 month old cousin can go underwater without having her nose plugged!!! I got a cold the last week of May. It lasted a week, and then I had a really deep cough for another week after that. The thing is, the cough never went away and it's been a month since it supposedly ended! Often when I lay down, or just at random times, it comes back but only for a few seconds. Background: My brother is 9 and my cousin is 8. She lives in ohio and she is here at our house for vacation. she lives in dayton ohio. The before: about 4 or 3 years ago when she was 5 and he was 6 me and my mom and brother went to dayton for a visit. They had to sleep in the same room with me. I was about 10. I went to the bathroom and when i came back they were in the closet in the room. I opened the closet and they were doing what little kids think is how they have sex. The now: My mom went to the club with some friends so i was in charge of watching the kids. The door was locked. Every so often I would knock on the door and my cousin would open it. The lights were off and my brother was in the bed. When she got up I heard her get off the bed. So then I knew exactly what they were doing. I came up with a plan to get proof. I knocked on the door with my cell phone and they opened it. I asked them if they had any dishes they wanted me to wash. While they were getting them I set my cell phone down. But I put it on voice record so I could record what they were saying and listen to it later. I got 30 minutes before they reminded me i left it. I listened to it and I knew it all. appartently my cousin said while they were playing house that she said "lets make babies" I am so sickened and I have no idea what to do. just now: We were all fighting and my mom is asleep. So my husband, me and our 1 - 1/2yr old son and 2 of our friends and there 6 month old are in desperate need of vacation ideas. We where going to go to Florida and stay in a house there for free (family owned), BUT due to fear of flying (husband) and to long of a drive to get there, im afraid it would be to difficult, so now we need other ideas. We would like it to be less than an 8 hour drive, o yeah We live in Ohio. It has been a challenge mainly because of the kids there so small and to young to enjoy anything like a water park, or anything like that. So it needs to accommodate them, us and the men. We where thinking PA, WV , MI, MD, more east side and NOT Tennessee. We would love a cabin on the lake but i am having a had time finding something like that.. I just need some more ideas.. I am from Ohio, but have always loved the South. We go there for vacation almost every year and it's the best two weeks of my summer! I am looking at Auburn University and Emory University, but I am afraid that there would be resentment towards me because I am from the North.
